Background/Aims: JX-594 is an oncolytic virus derived from the Wyeth vaccinia strain that causes replication-dependent cytolysis and antitumor immunity. Starting with a cross-examination of clinical-trial samples from advanced hepatocellular carcinoma patients having high levels of aldosterone and virus amplification in JX-594 treatment, we investigated the association between virus amplification and aldosterone in human cancer cell lines. Methods: Cell proliferation was determined by a cell-counting-kit-based colorimetric assay, and vaccinia virus quantitation was performed by quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and a viral plaque assay. Also, the intracellular pH was measured using a pH-sensitive dye. Results: Simultaneous treatment with JX-594 and aldosterone significantly increased viral replication in A2780, PC-3, and HepG2 cell lines, but not in U2OS cell lines. Furthermore, the aldosterone treatment time altered the JX-594 replication according to the cell line. The JX-594 replication peaked after 48 and 24 hours of treatment in PC-3 and HepG2 cells, respectively. qPCR showed that JX-594 entry across the plasma membrane was increased, however, the changes are not significant by the treatment. This was inhibited by treatment with spironolactone (an aldosterone-receptor inhibitor). JX-594 entry was significantly decreased by treatment with EIPA [5-(N-ethyl-N-isopropyl)amiloride; a Na+/H+-exchange inhibitor], but aldosterone significantly restored JX-594 entry even in the presence of EIPA. Intracellular alkalization was observed after aldosterone treatment but was acidified by EIPA treatment. Conclusions: Aldosterone stimulates JX-594 amplification via increased virus entry by affecting the H+ gradient. (Korean J Hepatol 2011;17:213-219)

Object : This study was conducted as part of the national project to standardize stroke diagnosis in Korean medicine. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the characteristics of acute stroke between heat pattern group and cold pattern group. Methods : We recruited stroke patients from 5 universities(Kyung-Hee University oriental medical center, Kyung-Hee University East-West Neo medical center, Kyungwon university lncheon oriental medical center, Kyungwon university Songpa oriental medical center and DongGuk university llsan oriental medical center) from April, 2007 until February, 2010. We diagnosed them and selected 463 heat pattern patients and 182 cold pattern patients. Results : We find that the risk factor of smoking, alcohol, diet(prefer to meat) are more associated with the heat pattern group. On the other hand, inflammation history in recent 3 months and diet(prefer to sea food) are more associated with the cold pattern group. RBC, Hg, Hct, TG, CK and Cl are more related to the heat pattern group. CPT, total cholesterol and HDL are more related to the cold pattern group. Tae-eum type takes high distribution of the heat pattern group, and So-eum type takes high distribution of the cold pattern group. Conclusions : This study provides evidence that the heat pattern group have more risk factor than the cold pattern group.

Na, Han Gil,Jung, Taek-Kyun,Ryou, Min,Lee, Ji-Woon,Hyun, Soong-Keun,Kang, Sung Yong,Mirzaei, Ali,Bonyani, Maryam,Kim, Kyung-Taek,Choi, Ho-Joon,Kim, Hyoun Woo,Jin, Changhyun Elsevier 2018 Optik Vol.156 No.-
<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>ZnO/reduced graphene oxide (RGO) heterostructures were fabricated using a simple two-step wet chemical technique and post-annealing treatment. ZnO nanoparticles with different sizes (20–200 nm) and shapes were randomly distributed on mono- and/or multi-layered RGO sheets. The microstructures of the ZnO/RGO composites examined using transmission electron microscopy indicated that the heterostructures are polycrystalline in nature, implying the possibilities of diverse defects present in the samples. The photoluminescence spectra examinations revealed the enhancement of defect-level emission peaks observed at a relatively long wavelength ranges (i.e., 779 nm, 666 nm, and 574 nm) as compared with the band to band transition observed at relatively short wavelengths (i.e., 378 nm).</P>
Usefulness of Diffusion Tensor Imaging in Unexplained Ipsilateral Hemiplegia

Ipsilateral hemiparesis is a rare and challenging sign in clinical neurological practice. Although the etiology of this manifestation is poorly understood, recent studies have attempted to probe the pathomechanism of this sign with advanced radiological techniques. Additional knowledge about the lesion and unraveling the pathomechanisms causing neurological impairments are important to predict the prognosis and clinical course and to aid in rehabilitation. Therefore, we present a case of a patient with a traumatic subdural hematoma on the lef hemisphere and lef spastic hemiparesis. Using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), we concluded that the right corticospinal tract injury caused by compression of the cerebral peduncle accounted for the ipsilateral hemiparesis, also known as Kernohan's notch phenomenon. Thus, this case report highlights the usefulness of the newer radiological techniques, such as DTI, to identify the pathomechanisms of neurological presentations.
Low-Power Bus Architecture Composition for AMBA AXI
Na, Sang-Kwon,Yang, Sung,Kyung, Chong-Min The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2009 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.9 No.2
A system-on-a-chip communication architecture has a significant impact on the performance and power consumption of modern multi-processors system-on-chips (MPSoCs). However, customization of such architecture for a specific application requires the exploration of a large design space. Thus, system designers need tools to rapidly explore and evaluate communication architectures. In this paper we present the method for application-specific low-power bus architecture synthesis at system-level. Our paper has two contributions. First, we build a bus power model of AMBA AXI bus communication architecture. Second, we incorporate this power model into a low-power architecture exploration algorithm that enables system designers to rapidly explore the target bus architecture. The proposed exploration algorithm reduces power consumption by 20.1% compared to a maximally connected reduced matrix, and the area is also reduced by 20.2% compared to the maximally connected reduced matrix.

The two-spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch (Acari: Tetranychidae), is one of the most important pest species, because it devastates many horticultural and ornamental crops and fruit trees. The resistance ratios calculated for the LC50 value in acequinocyl- and pyridaben-resistant strain was 4,237- and 5,555-fold higher than that of the susceptible strain, respectively. The objective of this study was to evaluate the cross-resistance to several acaricides and to identify the mechanisms associated with acequinocyl- and pyridaben-resistant strain of T. urticae.

Oncolytic viral vectors have shown good candidates for cancer treatment but have many limitations. To improve the therapeutic potential of oncolytic vaccinia virus, we developed a recombinant vaccinia virus expressing the 4-1BBL co-stimulatory molecule or CCL21. 4-1BBL and CCL21 expression was identified by FACS analysis and immunoblotting. rV-4-1BBL vaccination shows significant tumor regression compared to rV-LacZ, but rV-CCL21 shows rapid tumor growth compared to rV-LacZ in the poorly immunogenic B16 murine melanoma model. 4-1BBL expression resulted in the increase of the number of CD8+ T cells and especially the increase of effector (CD62L-CD44+) CD8+ T cells. These data suggest 4-1BBL may be the potential target for enhancement of tumor immunotherapy.

This study was designed to examine agro-healing services and programs provided and operated by farms in Korea. The results of the analysis of the agro-healing programs and operation of farms were as follows. The purpose of the operation of farms was to raise productivity by managing farms in a cooperative way through agricultural production, education and healing, and to raise income by processing and selling agricultural products. It was difficult to access farms by public transport and thus visitors had to use their own cars. The size of farms varied. The main resources utilized in the surveyed programs were plants, rural environments and landscapes, and agricultural products. The programs were conducted using resources that were commonly found in rural areas. Facilities on each farm were equipped with facilities (indoor and outdoor learning place, gardens, vegetable gardens, orchards, etc.) and convenience facilities (parking lots, drinking fountains, kiosks, etc.) to support program operation. However, facilities for the handicapped and accommodation facilities were insufficient. The programs operated on each farm utilized agricultural resources, farm produce, and rural resources and were classified into activities such as making, feeling, and growing. The average number of people who operated the family-centered program was 2-3, having qualifications such as welfare horticultural therapists, forest interpreters, experience instructors, and social workers. In addition, they had expertise in medicinal food, dietary life, and social welfare, and they also had essential expertise required to operate programs.

It is well reported that tumor cells can regulate host immune systems. To identify the detailed changes of immune cells between tumor bearing mice and normal mice, we evaluated the systemic immune cell phenotype of B16F10 tumor bearing mice in a time dependent manner. The lymphocytic population (CD4+ and CD8+ T cells) of tumor bearing mice significantly decreased compared to that of normal mice. We found that the Foxp3+CD25+ CD4 T cell decreased, but the Foxp3+CD25high CD4 T cell significantly increased. All subpopulations of CD8 T cells decreased, except the CD62L-CD44+ CD8 T cell subpopulation. The myeloid cell population (CD11b+ and Gr-1+ cells) of tumor bearing mice significantly increased. Specifically, Foxp3+CD25high CD4 T cell and CD11b+Gr-1+ cells significantly increased in early phase of tumor progression. These results are helpful to understand the change of the systemic immune cell subpopulation of tumor bearing mice in a time-dependent manner.
