        Stent-Assisted Angioplasty for Symptomatic Middle Cerebral Artery Stenosis:Short-term Arteriographic and Clinical Outcome

        Objective:Stent-assisted angioplasty is an effective treatment modality in the coronary and peripheral arterial disease, however, its efficacy for intracranial atherosclerotic disease has not been verified. We assess the treatment outcome of stent-assisted angioplasty for symptomatic middle cerebral artery (MCA) stenosis. Methods : We performed stent-assisted angioplasty in 12 patients with symptomatic high-grade stenosis(>60%) on the proximal portion of the MCA, who had either recurrent transient ischemic attacks (TIAs) resistant to medical therapy or perfusion problems. Patient records were analyzed for angiographic characteristic, degree of stenosis, preprocedural regimen of antiplatelet and/or anticoagulation agents, used devices, procedure-related complications, and clinical and radiographic outcomes. Results : Stent-assisted angioplasty was successfully performed in 8 patients without any serious complications. Two patients had arterial rupture. One of two patients was rescued by an additional stenting and balloon tamponade, and the other patient was dead. Another complications among the 2 patients included thrombotic occlusion and distal thrombosis. Residual stenosis was less than 50% in diameter in all the patients. During follow-up period (mean, 11 months), stroke attacks including TIAs did not recur in 9 of 11 patients who had experienced intractable TIAs or strokes. All of 8 patients who underwent follow-up cerebral angiography had no restenosis. Conclusion : Stent-assisted angioplasty for refractory and symptomatic MCA stenosis is a relatively safe and effective procedure. It can be used to prevent recurrent TIAs or strokes in selected patients. Key words:Angioplasty;Arterial stenosis;Endovascular therapy;Intracranial stent;Middle cerebral artery.

      • Implementation of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Level Prediction Processor using Aptamer Biochip

        In the developed country, cardiovascular disease (CVD) has considerably affected in a notice of death. In recent study, 40% of the disease mortality is related with CVD in the case of United States. Because of dangerousness of CVD, there is the growth of need that the method predicts whether some patient has CVD. To meet those need, there are so many efforts include our study. In our study, we propose the efficient diagnosis system to cover public people with cheap medical fee. The processor use aptamer biochip which is manufactured by Geno Prot Inc. to generate test pattern. This aptamer biochip is used for detection of specific protein included in patient’s serum. We can get abbreviated test set by using hypernetwork model. And then the processor generates CVD prediction results with the reduced data and only spends minimal processing time. The proposed CVD processor is verificated through Xilinx FPGA. The results show that the processor is well qualified as CVD diagonosis processor.

      • Optimal Design of Liquefaction Cycles of Liquefied Natural Gas Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading Unit Considering Optimal Synthesis

        <P>The liquefaction process is regarded as primary among all topside systems in liquefied natural gas floating, production, storage, and offloading (LNG FPSO) applications. The liquefaction process, which typically accounts for 70% of the capital cost of topside process systems and 30 to 40% of the overall cost of LNG FPSO plants, condenses separated and pretreated natural gas into LNG. The volume of liquid occupies about 1/600 the volume of the natural gas. The cycles in the liquefaction process use seven main types of equipment: compressor, seawater cooler, expansion valve, heat exchanger, phase separator, tee, and common header. Different types of liquefaction cycles are determined according to their respective synthesis and optimized operating conditions. This study proposes a generic liquefaction model to represent various types of liquefaction cycles. Twenty-seven feasible liquefaction configurations derived from the generic model are selected to perform the most effective synthesis for the optimization of the liquefaction cycle. With a minimum amount of power required for the compressors, an optimized liquefaction cycle is proposed by obtaining optimal operating conditions in 27 cases. The optimized liquefaction cycle is compared with the dual mixed refrigerant (DMR) cycle for the application of LNG FPSO. Finally, the results show that the amount of power required for the operating conditions was decreased by 7.45% compared with that of the DMR cycle.</P>

        Serum concentrations of T4,, T3, and free T4 were measured by radioimmunoassay in normal pregnant women at trimesters, in postpartum women, and cord blood of neonate. Total T4 were increased during pregnancy, remarkably high in the first trimester, and also somewhat increased in postpartum, and normal in neonate. Total T3 were in normal range during pregnancy, but increased in postpartum, whereas decreased in neonate. Free T4 were decreased in 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, however normal in postpartum and neonate.

      • Integrated engineering environment for the process FEED of offshore oil and gas production plants

        In this paper, an offshore process front end engineering design (FEED) method is systematically introduced and reviewed to enable efficient offshore oil and gas production plant engineering. An integrated process engineering environment is also presented for the topside systems of a liquefied natural gas floating production, storage, and offloading (LNG FPSO) unit, based on the concepts and procedures for the process FEED of general offshore production plants. Various activities of the general process FEED scheme are first summarized, and then the offshore process FEED method, which is applicable to all types of offshore oil and gas production plants, is presented. The integrated process engineering environment is presented according to the aforementioned FEED method. Finally, the offshore process FEED method is applied to the topside systems of an LNG FPSO in order to verify the validity and applicability of the FEED method.

        항공우주용 리오셀계 탄소/페놀릭 복합재료의 내열 성능 평가

        리오셀계 탄소/페놀릭 복합재료의 항공우주용 내열 부품 적용 가능성을 확인하기 위하여 내열 성능 평가 및 열 해석을 수행하였다. 탄소/페놀릭의 열반응 평가는 내열성능평가모터(Thermal Protection Evaluation Motor, TPEM)로 수행되었다. 본 논문에서는 열 해석을 위해 유체의 경계층 해석을 고려한 경계층 적분 코드와 삭마 및 열분해를 고려한 MSC-Marc 2018 코드를 사용하였다. 추진기관의 압력 곡선, 연소 시험 후 절개된 목삽입재 시편을 통하여 삭마 및 단열성능을 분석하였고, 리오셀계 탄소/페놀릭 복합재료의 열반응은 레이온계 탄소/페놀릭 재료와 유사하였다. 연소 시험을 통한 결과를 바탕으로 국산 리오셀계 탄소/페놀릭의 항공우주용 내열 부품으로의 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. Heat resistance performance evaluation and thermal analysis were performed to confirm the applicability of the lyocell-based carbon/phenolic composite material for heat-resistant parts for aerospace. Heat resistance performance evaluation of carbon/phenolic was conducted by Thermal Protection Evaluation Motor (TPEM). In this paper, boundary layer integration code considering the boundary layer analysis of combustion gas and MSC-Marc 2018 considering ablation and thermal pyrolysis were used for the thermal analysis. The ablation and thermal insulation performance were analyzed by the pressure curve of test motor and the cut carbon/phenolic specimens. The thermal response of the lyocell-based carbon/phenolic material was similar to that of the rayon-based carbon/phenolic material. Based on the results through the combustion test, the applicability of heat-resistant parts for aerospace to which domestic lyocell-based carbon fibers were applied was confirmed.

      • Influence of Ginsenosides on the Kainic Acid-Induced Seizure Activity in Immature Rats

        We studied the effects of ginsenosides in immature rats based upon the previous results that ginseng has a suppressive or anticonvulsive activity. To examine the suppressive effect of ginsenosides on kainic acid-induced seizures, the severities and frequencies were observed for 4 h after injection of kainic acid (KA; i.p., 2 mg/kg b.w.) using 10-day-old male Sprague-Dawley rats ($22{\pm}2\;g$). Protopanaxadiol saponins such as ginsenoside-Rb1 (Rb1), ginsenoside-Rb2 (Rb2), ginsenoside-Rc (Rc), and ginsenoside-Rd(Rd) generally reduced the seizure activities while protopanaxatriol saponins such as ginsenoside-Rg1 (Rg1) and ginsenoside-Re (Re) rather increased stereotypic "paddling-like" movements. When vinyl-GABA (v-G) was injected together with Rb1 or Rc, KA-induced seizure severities were additionally reduced only by the injection of Rc, but not by Rb1. The level of gamma isozyme of protein kinase C (PKC-${\gamma}$) in the hippocampus increased about three times as much as that of normal rats at 4 h after KA injection. The increased level of PCK-${\gamma}$ by KA was significantly reduced to about 35% by the coinjection with v-G alone, but it was not changed by v-G together with Rb1 or Rc. The increased level of PKC-${\gamma}$ at 4 h after injection of KA was not consistent with the reduction of seizure severities between Rb1 and Rc. These results suggest that Rc and Rb1 may reduce seizure severity independent of PKC-${\gamma}$ levels, and Rc may additionally act with v-G regarding the GABA metabolism during the stage of KA-induced seizures in the immature rats.

      • Efect of Herbal Medicinal Preparations Containing Ginseng on Learning and Memory in Kainate-induced Seizures

        Coleus forskohlii Briq. of the family Lamiaceae yields a valuable secondary metabolite known as forskolin which is a labdane diterpenoid. Coleus forskohlii is the only known source of this compound. Forskolin is used in medicine for the treatment of glaucoma, congestive cardiomyopathy and asthma. Morphogenic callus was induced from young leaves on MS medium augmented with NAA and BA. These calli, when subcultured on MS with KN alone gave rise to shoots. The regenerated shoot developed good root system on MS medium fortified with NAA. The fully grown plantlets were transferred to soil for acclimatization. Coleus plant is mainly infected by a fungi Lasiodiplodia theobromae which causes root of disease. The fungal culture filterate (FCF) of Lasiodiplodia theobromae, has been used in regeneration media to find the MIC and further to select resistant plants to the pathogen. In the present study 40% FCF in the medium showed maximum inhibition and is there fore considered as the MIC level of Coleus forskohlii. This data could prove to be useful for the future for selecting a resistant C,forskohlii plant against the root disease caused by L.theobromae.

      • Cytochrome P450-mediated herb-drug interaction potential of Galgeun-tang

        We evaluated the herb-drug interaction potential of Galgeun-tang (GGT) extracts, mediated by cytochrome P450 (CYP) inhibition/induction. Further, the effects of fermentation on the CYP-mediated herb-drug interaction potential of GGT extracts were determined. As measured by LC-ESI/MS/MS, GGT extracts (0-300μg/mL) showed no inhibitory activity toward eight CYP isoforms (1A2, 2A6, 2B6, 2C9, 2C19, 2D6, 2E1, and 3A4) in pooled human liver microsomes, suggesting that GGT may have low potential for herb-drug interactions mediated by CYP inhibition. Hepatic CYP expression and activity in rats treated with GGT extracts twice per day for 1week was examined. Among the tested CYP isoforms (1A1, 1A2, 1B1, 2B1, 2C11, 2E1, 3A1, 3A2, and 4A1), CYP1B1 and 4A1 were increased by GGT extracts. Hepatic activities of 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase, 7-pentoxyresorufin-O-depentylase, and chlorzoxazone 6-hydroxylase, but not midazolam hydroxylase were also elevated. These results raise the possibility that GGT extracts may increase the toxicity of environmental toxicants through the elevating CYP-dependent metabolic activation. Interestingly, the increases in CYP1B1 and CYP4A1 levels, and 7-ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase, 7-pentoxyresorufin-O-depentylase, and chlorzoxazone 6-hydroxylase activities were attenuated by fermentation of GGT extract using Lactobacillus plantarum KFRI 402, but not 144. Further studies are needed to identify the CYP regulatory component(s) from GGT and determination its metabolism. ⓒ2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
