The aim of this study is to apply command, practice and reciprocal teaching patterns. among Mosston's applicable teaching patterns to the teaching hurdling. The effects of teaching and learning in the psychomotor, cognitive and affective domains have been compared and analyzed in this study. The results are as follows. 1. when comparing the increasing rate in the competence of 70M running to see the changes in the learning achievement on the psychomotor domain, the increasing rate showed in command learning the most, and the least in reciprocal learning. In the T-test on the difference of the average of before/after the test, significant difference by 5% could be found. When comparing the increasing rate in the competence of 70M hurdling, there has been significant difference by 5% in the three groups : the increasing rate showed in command learning the most, and the least in practice learning. 2. when comparing the increasing rate on the students' knowledge and comprehension to find the changes on learning achievement in the affective domain, there has been significant difference by 5% in the three groups. Learning achievement on the teaching patterns was more effective in reciprocal learning than in command and practice learning. 3. when comparing the learning effects on the attitude to see the effects of learning achievement on the affective domain, there was no significant difference in command learning group : but there was significant difference by 5% in practice and reciprocal learning groups. When comparing the changes in learning achievement on interest, significant difference could be seen among the three groups, and the effects of command learning was the most, and the least in the practice learning.

F. Scott Fitzgerald's third novel 'The Great Gatsby' was a critical triumph, exceedingly almost all exceptions of his contemporaries, who saw in Fitzgerald's Past nothing with which to compare it. The story of how he had come about the writing of it is one of the three basic approaches to the novel; the other two have to do with its method and structure and its skillful use of the milieu with which it is centrally concerned. There was no one to know exactly who Gatsby was. In spite of this nearly everyone took advantage of his fabulous hospitality. And it really was fabulous. Jay Gatsby seemed to be a per-son without background, without history, yet the irony of this bright and brittle facade was that he had created it not to impress the world but to do just one person -a girl he had loved, and had had to leave, a girl who had loved him, but now married, a girl whom he had dreamed about for over four years. This dream had long ceased to have any substance or any connection with reality and for this reason he coull not awake from it. And only death could dispel this dream. The problem associated with the study of The Great Gatsby are clearly a product of the history of its composition. Gatsby is linked to the 1920's world itself, but he is also historically associated with "the American dream" with the progress of American wealth and ambition from the very dawn of New World aspiration. There are too many people who have studied 'The Great Gatsby' in many ways. Here I'd like to study the religious problem, especially the theme of "The Great Gatsby' and the situation of 1920's according to the progress of the critical rediscovery of American literature. As Alfred Kazin said, Fitzgerald's senses always opened outward to the world, and the world was full of Long Island, Sundays……the holiday lights, the holiday splendor, the zo's in the golden bowel, whose crack he knew so well.

Harry's Dream and Reality

Ernest Hemingway's colorful life as big game hunter, fisherman and Nobel Prize winner began in quiet Oak Park, Illinois, July 21, 1899. His mother was a devout, religious woman. He acquired his father's enthusiasm-a love of hunting and fishing and it is that phase of his childhood which formed important impressions. And he saw active service in World War Ⅱ. In 1942∼44 he volunteered himself and in the spring of 1944 he went to Eurpe as a war correspondent. There comes a time when most writers who care about the technical problems of their craft search for new ways of handling their material, and often, experiment with new kinds of subject. These experiments rarely constitute their best work, but the process of experiment is usually high instructive for their literary development. Ernest Hemingway has always been a thoughtful craftsman, a writer for whom each new book is, as he put it himself in his Nobel speech," a new beginning, where he tries again for something that is beyond attainment." So long as Hemingway probes within the boundaries of Harry's tormented psyche, "The Snows of kilimanjaro" is a superb story, surely among his finest. That its structure is looser than usual is determined by Harry's physical condition and is admirably handled. Though Harry's delirium dissolves the orderly pattern of chronological time, the fragmented memories that course through his five internal monologues unmistakably mark the stages of his dark passage. Even Hemingway's symbols-there had always been symbols in Hemingways writing-sometimes underscore Harry's inward struggle; the symbolic environmental contrast between the pure, snow-peaked mountain where the leopard dies a clean death and the hot plain where Harry dies of rot. The hyena is convincing, too, as a metaphor for the pervasive atmosphere of death. Technically 'The Snows of kilimanjaro' is Hemingway's most accomplished piece of writing. That is'nt the same as callingit his best piece of writing, but it is very good indeed: firm, subtle, and having the eloquence of deep feeling. And death had always been Hemingway's principal theme, one of his themes war, love and death.

Purpose: Papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC) is increasing in incidence because of ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cyology (FNA). According to WHO, PTMC is defined as a papillary thyroid cancer of 1 cm or less in diameter. Within the group of patients with PTMC, prognosis is known to be very favorable. This study was carried out to evaluate the clinicohistological characteristics of PTMC and to determine a reasonable extent of surgery for them. Methods: From Mar. 2002 to Dec. 2007, 610 patients with thyroid diseases underwent thyroidectomy at Chosun University hospital. Among these patients, 205 patients (33%) had a thyroid papillary carcinoma less than or equal to 1 cm in great diameter. The clinicopathologic features and treatment outcome of these patients were evaluated retrospectively. Results: In the period 2002-2007, PTMC incidence rate in our institution increased from 10% to 20%. There were 19 men and 186 women with a median age of 46 years (range; 16-74). PTMC diameter ranged from 0.1 to 1 cm. (mean 0.54 cm) 15.7% of patients with PTMC presented with preoperative symptoms (palpable mass, fatigue, pain, hoarseness). Preoperatively 84.3% of these 205 cases were diagnosed by ultrasonography. We performed unilateral lobectomy (41%), near total thyroidectomy (44%), and total thyroidectomy (11%) with or without central compartment neck node dissection. During a mean follow-up of 36 months, 5 patients (2.4%) developed locoregional recurrence with no distant metastasis. There were no significant difference on recurrence rate by size, capsular invasion. But multiplicity of primary tumor has a higher locoregional recurrence rate (p= 0.04). The detection rate of PTMC is increasing due to FNA technique in our hospital. This study shows that PTMC may have capsular invasion, lymph node involvement, multiplicity and locoregional recurrence likely to larger (>1 cm) papillary carcinoma. Conclusion: We suggest that total or near total thyroidectomy with central compartment neck dissection is proper therapeutic operation for PTMC and modified neck dissection shoud be performed if lateral neck lymph node are enlarged or diagnosed as metastatic tumor.

The tool geometry parameters and cutting process have complex relationships. Until now, various cutting test were needed to acquire optimal design of end mill for the purpose of high speed machining, due to the insufficient knowledge about cutting process in high speed machining. Using various tools with different geometry, relationships between tool geometry parameter (rake angle, clearance angle, length of cutter) and cutting process (cutting force, surface accuracy, surface roughness) have been studied. Acquired data can be used to design optimal tool for high speed machining and developed tool geometry design S/W.

Antigenieity Study of CFA-001,Cefazolin,a Cephalosperin Derivative Produced by an Enzymatic Semisynthesis

The antigenic potential of CFA-001, cefazolin, a cephalosporin derivative produced by an enzymatic semisynthesis, was determined in Hartley guinea pigs. A battery of tests employed consisted of active systemic anaphylaxis (ASA), passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA), and indirect hemagglutination test (IHA). The results were as follows: 1) In ASA, no signs attributable to anaphylaxis was observed in guinea pigs sensitized with CFA-001, whereas OVA-sensitized animals induced severe anaphylactic symptoms; 2) guinea pigs did not produce antibodies against CFA-001 when sensitized with or without Freund's complete adjuvant (FCA) in homologous PCA tests. Meanwhile, antibodies against ovalbumin (OVA) were clearly detected; 3) No CFA-001-specific hemagglutination was observed in the IHA using sera obtained from CFA-001-sensitized guinea pigs. These results suggest that CFA-001 has no antigenicity potential in guinea pigs.

Influences of Thiopurine Methyltransferase Genotype and Activity on Thiopurine-induced Leukopenia in Korean Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Retrospective Cohort Study

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Myelotoxicity has been shown to be very common in Korean patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) during azathioprine (AZA) or 6-mercaptopurine (6–MP) treatment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative risk of the thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) and inosine triphosphate pyrophosphatase (ITPA) genotypes and TPMT activity for the development of leukopenia in Korean IBD patients during AZA/6-MP treatment. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 286 Korean patients with IBD who had been treated with AZA/6-MP for at least 6 months between June 1996 and September 2006. Common TPMT mutations, including TPMT*1, *2, *3A, *3B, and *3C, and ITPA mutations, including 94C>A and IVS2+21A>C, were determined using a high-performance liquid chromatography method. TPMT activity was measured using liquid chromatography with coupled mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry. RESULTS: Leukopenia occurred in 118 cases (41.3%). TPMT *1/*3C was detected in 7 cases (2.4%), and ITPA 94 C>A was detected in 66 cases (23.1%), including 63 heterozygotes (22.1%) and 3 homozygotes (1.0%). The median TPMT activity was 9.3 U/mL (interquartile range 10.4, range 2.1 to 76.2). Cox regression analysis revealed that patients with heterozygous *3C type TPMT had a higher probability of leukopenia than those with wild type TPMT (P=0.02). Patients with intermediate TPMT activity had a lower probability of leukopenia than those with low activity (P=0.01). However, the ITPA genotype did not affect the risk of leukopenia. CONCLUSIONS: Our data showed that it could be helpful to examine TPMT genotypes and to measure TPMT activity in Korean patients taking AZA/6-MP to predict the development of leukopenia.

최근 국내 유입 Vibrio cholerae균 및 1995년도 국내 집단 발생 콜레라의 역학적 양상

목적 : 1992년 이후 국내에 유입, 확인되는 V. cholerae 균은 현격한 증가 추세를 보이고 있으며, 1995년도 국내 집단 발생 콜레라의 역학적 양상이 종래의 경우와 상이한 바 있어 최근의 콜레라균 유입상황과 국내 역학적 특성을 정리하여 향후의 방역 대책에 참고로 하기 위하여 본 연구를 시행하였다. 방법 : 국내 유입 V. cholerae 균은 세균학적 방법에 의해 1986-1995년 사이에 확인된 균주를 대상으로 분석하였고, 국내 집단발생 콜레라는 1995년도에 내국인 거주자에게서 진성 콜레라 환자로 구명된 환자를 대상으로 역학적 양상을 살펴보았다. 결과 : 국내 유입 V. cholerae균은 1992년 이후 1995년 사이에 계절과 무관하게 뚜렷한 증가 추세를 보였다. 1995년도 콜레라 국내 집단 발생의 역학적 양상은 초발 환자가 인지되면서 단기간 사이에 지역적 연고가 없는 다양한 지역에서 콜레라 환자 발생이 확인되었다. 환자 발생 지역 내에서는 비교적 소규모 환자 발생에 그쳤고 진성 콜레라 환자로 확인된 환자 중 사망자는 없었으며 남성에서 여성보다 발병율이 높았다. 결론 : V.cholerae O1균의 국내 유입이 최근 현격히 증가되었고, 1994년에는 V. cholerae O139균의 국내유입이 처음으로 확인되었다. 콜레라 환자의 국내 집단 발생 위험은 1992년 이후 증가되었으며 1995년도의 집단 환자 발생은 지역적 연고가 없는 다양한 지역에서 비교적 단기간에 사망자 없이 소규모의 환자 발생양상을 보였다. Background: Imported Vibrio cholerae strains have increasingly been found since 1992 and the pattern of recent cholera epidemic outbreak in Korea showed a little difference from that of former epidemic outbreak. Methods: We had collected suspected V. cholerae isolates from Quarantine Stations or Public Health Laboratories, which were identified as V. cholerae O1 or O139. Epide miological analysis was made on the base of field surveys. Results: During the period from 1986 through 1995, 138 V. cholerae strains were imported. Nearly 85.5% of the strains (118 strains) were imported within recent 4 years from 1992 to 1995. One hundred and twenty-eight strains were E1 Tor-Ogawa type V. cholerae O1, 6 strains were V. cholerae O139 and 4 strains were E1 Tor-Inaba type V. cholerae O1. Of 138 strains, 71 strains were isolated from the airplane toilet swab and 67 strains from the passengers who entered into Korea after international travel. From 1993 to 1995, 101 strains were imported from the Southeast Asian countries; including Thailand(65), Indonesia(17), Philippines(10), Hongkong(6) Singapore(2) and Vietnam(1). During the cholera epidemic in 1995, 68 patients with V. cholerae O1 (E1 Tor-Ogawa) were found. Oneset of the index-case occurred on August 26th and the last on September 13th. Geographically it occurred in Incheon city(25), Chungcheongnam do(25), Kangwon do(6), Kyungsangbuck do(5), Kyunggi do(4), Daejeon city(2) and Pusan city(1). Of total 68 cases, 39 were male. Cases were found in all age groups, but it was more common in elderly groups. During the epidemic, E1 Tor-Ogawa type V. cholerae O1 strains were also isolated from the coastal sea water of Kanghwa kun where the epidemic outbreak occurred. Conclusions: In Korea, the imported V. cholerae O1 and V. cholerae O139 strains have increasingly been found without seasonal variation since 1992. Cholera epidemic outbreak in 1995, occurred simultaneously at many different local areas within a short period without mortality.
