        The purpose of this study was to grasp the sex knowledge in middle and high school students in Youngdo-Gu, Busan, and to provide some basic data for the needs and the direction of sex education for the teenagers. The survey was conducted by using questionnaires in two middle schools and two high schools in Youngdo-Gu. The questionnaires were took back after record by the respondents. The survey was conducted at September 15∼17, 2000 and a total of 791 were completed. The respondents were 200 (25.3%) males and 199 (25.2%) females in middle schools and 196 (24.8%) males and 196 (24.8%) females in high schools. For the statistical analysis, χ2-test, t-test and one-way ANOVA were used by using SPSS/PC+ WIN 8.0 program. The conclusions based on the results obtained from this study are as follows: 1) An attitude of the sexual matters showed that boys, students and non-christians were more progressive than girls, parents and christians, respectively (p<0.01). 2) The sexual agonies of students were in order of having a date 36.2%, sexual drive 11.1%, sexual intercourse 8.8%, masturbation 8.6% and sexual abuse 6.7%. 3) The points for sexual knowledges appeared 40.6 points out of 100 points from boys and 42.3 points from girls in middle schools, and 57.3 points from boys and 66.1 points from girls in high schools. Therefore, the girls had much knowledges on sexuality than those of the boys. There were a significant differences of knowledge on sexuality between boys and girls (p<0.001). Over 60% of both boys and girls had not enough knowledges on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). 4) Satisfaction of sex education was common or unsatisfied as over 90% of respondents. The reasons were a textbook-like general information (50%) and nothing practically to help (29%). 5) The students wanted sex education for the practice in future life such as male and female relationship with etiquette(23%); and pregnancy and delivery (17%) in middle school students, and contraceptive and abortion (34%) and preventive STDs (18%). There was not enough to understand whole adolescent in Youngdo area because the study subjects were only public middle and hight school students in Youngdo-Gu, Busan. Conclusively, it is necessary to educate to give right information of sexuality to the adolescents in Youngdo, and to have systematically sex education from the kindergartens to the high schools by long range sex educational program. Also, a proper program for integrated sex education is necessary to build healthful sexual consciousness and worth in cooperation with sex educators, universities and health centers.

      • Siloxane-Epoxy Copolymer의 合成과 熱的 性質에 관한 硏究 (Ⅰ)

        Oligosiloxane which has molecular weight 900∼1,000 was synthesized from OMCS, and bisphenol A epichlohroydrin polycondensate was synthesized from bisphenol A and epichlohroydrin. The oligosiloxane-epoxy copolymer was prepared through the copolymerization of oligosiloxane and epoxy prepolymer under alkaline acetone solution. The structures of oligomers, copolymer and Si contents to the copolymer were determined by infrared absorption spectra and elemental analysis, and Si content to copolymers was increased according to mole ratio of oligosiloxane to epoxy prepolymer increased. Thermal properties of copolymers and epoxy resin was measured by thermogravimetric analysis. Copolymer with 8.2% Si content had higher degradation temperature 250∼300℃ than epoxy resin which degradated at 80∼100℃, but the copolymer had poor solubility according to Si content increased.

        Whole-genome resequencing analysis of 20 Micro-pigs

        Background Miniature pigs have been increasingly used as mammalian model animals for biomedical research because of their similarity to human beings in terms of their metabolic features and proportional organ sizes. However, despite their importance, there is a severe lack of genome-wide studies on miniature pigs. Objective In this study, we performed whole-genome sequencing analysis of 20 Micro-pigs obtained from Medi Kinetics to elucidate their genomic characteristics. Results Approximately 595 gigabase pairs (Gb) of sequence reads were generated to be mapped to the swine reference genome assembly (Sus scrofa 10.2); on average, the sequence reads covered 99.15% of the reference genome at an average of 9.6-fold coverage. We detected a total of 19,518,548 SNPs, of which 8.7% were found to be novel. With further annotation of all of the SNPs, we retrieved 144,507 nonsynonymous SNPs (nsSNPs); of these, 5968 were found in all 20 individuals used in this study. SIFT prediction for these SNPs identified that 812 nsSNPs in 402 genes were deleterious. Among these 402 genes, we identified some genes that could potentially affect traits of interest in Micro-pigs, such as RHEB and FRAS1. Furthermore, we performed runs of homozygosity analysis to locate potential selection signatures in the genome, detecting several loci that might be involved in phenotypic characteristics in Micro-pigs, such as MSTN, GDF5, and GDF11. Conclusion In this study, we identified numerous nsSNPs that could be used as candidate genetic markers with involvement in traits of interest. Furthermore, we detected putative selection footprints that might be associated with recent selection applied to miniature pigs.

      • 일개 대학병원에 내원한 원발성 폐암 환자의 인구학적 및 병리학적 특성

        Background : Recently, the lung cancer mortality rank first in Korea. The prognosis of lung cancer is not good enough with current treatments and multimodality treatments are required. So we are interested in the characteristics of lung cancer patients for better treatment. Methods : We searched lung cancer patients since 1994. Then we collected the data of primary lung cancer patients about the demographic features, histologic types and diagnotic methods. We divided the total period into 2 haves and specific analysis was tried. Results : 1) Total 850 patients were included. 633 (74.5%) were male and 217 (25.5%) were female. 2) The mean age was 65 ± 11 years old. and the peak age was 7th decades. 3) Squamous cell carcinoma(334/850, 39.3%) was slightly more prevalent than adenocarcinoma(302/850, 35.5%). Conclusion : From these results, we expected that older persons will be diagnosed to have lung cancer and adenocarcinoma will be more dominant histologic type with time.

        복수과 진료 환자의 중복 처방에 대한 분석 및 평가

        In an aging society, there is an increasing possibility of the duplication of the drugs given to patients because they take many kinds of drugs. Among the prescriptions given to the patients who was treated at multiple ambulatory clinics in St. Mary's hospital for one month of September, 2002, in which drugs that has identical or similar effects are prescribed, we analysed and evaluated them by patients' characteristics, kinds of medication, severity of side effects on a case by case basis. More, we assessed the potential additional costs. As a result of this study, the duplication rate turned out to be 6.69% and it was shown that the proportion of the elderly patients over 60 was high. The gastro-intestinal medications took up a large part and most of the cases showed that the danger caused by double taking of medicine was slight, but there were some examples in which the serious side effects were predicted. Expected additional costs were the average 11.349 won and it ranges from the minimum of 56 won to the maximum of 135,720 won. In conclusion, the management of drug histories of the patients who need the plural treatments is very important and the necessity of the individual and professional guidance of taking medicines for the elderly patients is emerged, too.

        Inhibitory Effect of Clavicepitaceae on Serotonin Release out of Human Platelets and Human Platelet Aggregation

        We have investigated the effects of hypha-water extracts (HWE), fruit body-water extracts (FWE) and cordycepin from Cordyceps militaris on serotonin release out of human platelets and human platelet aggregation. HWE and FWE inhibited the release of [^(3)H]-serotonin from human platelet stimulated by thrombin (2 U/ml) or collagen (20 ㎍/ml) in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, cordycepin, a major component of Cordyceps militaris, inhibited the human platelet aggregation induced by collagen (10 ㎍/ml) in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that cordycepin containing in HWE and FWE may inhibit the serotonin release by suppressing the collagen-induced human platelet aggregation. Accordingly, our data demonstrate that HWE and FWE containing much cordycepin might have antithrombotic and antimigrainous functions.

        Background : The cun measurement System, an essential and convenient method in locating acupoints, has been widely used in the practice of acupuncture. However, traditional cun measurement has been criticized for its lack of reliability. Objectives : The purposes of this study are to determine if one cun measured by the directional methods have a consistency with that of proportional methods and to investigate which factors are related with these differences, especially in forearm. Methods : The distance between the elbow crease and the wrist crease of forearm was compared to a reference value of one cun obtained by the directional method. In this method, one cun is one third of the distance between index finger and Small finger of a subject, measured at proximal interphalangeal joint. In addition, to investigate the factors influencing the differences between these two methods, we measured the height and body weight and calculated body mass index (BMI). Finally we analyzed the factors correlated with these lengths by linear regression test. Results : The results showed that one cun obtained by the directional methods were significantly different from one cun by the proportional methods in forearm. It was demonstrated that the length acquired with the directional method was more correlated with body weight and body mass index, while the length obtained by the proportional method was more correlated with the height.

        Antitumor Activity and Acquired Resistance Mechanism of Dovitinib (TKI258) in <i>RET</i>-Rearranged Lung Adenocarcinoma

        <P><I>RET</I> rearrangement is a newly identified oncogenic mutation in lung adenocarcinoma (LADC). Activity of dovitinib (TKI258), a potent inhibitor of FGFR, VEGFR, and PDGFR, in <I>RET</I>-rearranged LADC has not been reported. The aims of the study are to explore antitumor effects and mechanisms of acquired resistance of dovitinib in <I>RET</I>-rearranged LADC. Using structural modeling and <I>in vitro</I> analysis, we demonstrated that dovitinib induced cell-cycle arrest at G<SUB>0</SUB>–G<SUB>1</SUB> phase and apoptosis by selective inhibition of RET kinase activity and ERK1/2 signaling in <I>RET</I>-rearranged LC-2/ad cells. Strong antitumor effect of dovitinib was observed in an LC-2/ad tumor xenograft model. To identify the acquired resistance mechanisms to dovitinib, LC-2/ad cells were exposed to increasing concentrations of dovitinib to generate LC-2/ad DR cells. Gene-set enrichment analysis of gene expression and phosphor-kinase revealed that Src, a central gene in focal adhesion, was activated in LC-2/ad DR cells. Saracatinib, an src kinase inhibitor, suppressed ERK1/2 phosphorylation and growth of LC-2/ad DR cells.       • Mechanistic Investigations on the Competition between the Cyclopolymerization and [2 + 2 + 2] Cycloaddition of 1,6-Heptadiyne Derivatives Using Second-Generation Grubbs Catalysts

        <P>Until recently, the cyclopolymerization (CP) of 1,6-heptadiyne derivatives using Grubbs catalysts had been unsuccessful, leading to the misbelief that these catalysts were inactive in these circumstances. However, a recent breakthrough has changed this previous perspective of CP, where a successful living CP was reported using a third-generation Grubbs catalyst with the aid of weakly coordinating ligands. Although it became clear that weakly coordinating ligands greatly enhanced the efficiency of CP by suppressing the decomposition of the propagating carbene, it was still unclear as to what was actually occurring during the previous attempts at CP using ligand-free conditions, especially in the case of the Hoveyda-Grubbs catalyst. Here, we have found that second-generation Grubbs or Hoveyda-Grubbs catalysts in dichloromethane (DCM) formed predominantly side products, i.e., dimers and trimers of 1,6-heptadiyne derivatives, instead of producing the desired conjugated polymers. Further mechanistic studies disclosed that [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition reactions by the decomposed Grubbs catalyst were responsible for these side products, not the commonly presumed olefin metathesis pathway. Furthermore, a control experiment revealed that pyridine not only stabilized the propagating carbene but also suppressed the dimer formation by poisoning the newly generated catalytic species that would have promoted [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition. This observation explained why the third-generation Grubbs catalyst successfully and selectively cyclopolymerized 1,6-heptadiyne monomers. Another significant observation was that depending on the nature of the substituents of the 1,6-heptadiynes, different ratios of polymers and side-products were obtained as a result of competition between CP and cycloaddition. Monomers containing more coordinating substituents favored the undesired cycloaddition products owing to slower polymerization and faster decomposition of the carbene, while weakly chelating monomers strongly favored CP. Finally, with this new mechanistic understanding of the factors that contribute to CP propagation and decomposition of the Grubbs catalysts, we could maximize the efficiency of CP by modifying the monomer structure, lowering the reaction temperature, or adding stabilizing ligands. This report demonstrates a successful result of how mechanistic investigation has turned a previously unattainable polymerization into an efficient one.</P>
