        First Record of the Genus Probolus(Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Ichneumoninae) from Korea, Based on One New Species and One Newly Recorded Species

        An ichneumonine genus, Probolus Wesmael, is first reported from Korea with P. fukuchiyamanus Uchida and P. cyanogaster Jeong. The former is new to Korea and the latter new to science. A key to the two species, and their descriptions and photographs of diagnostic characters are provided.

        한국인 직무 스트레스 측정도구의 개발 및 표준화

        Background and Purposes: Over the past three decades, numerous studies performed in Korea have reported that job stress is a determinant risk factor for chronic diseases and work disability. Every society has its own culture and occupational climate particular to their organizations, and hence experiences different occupational stress. An occupational stress measurement tool therefore needs to be developed to estimate it objectively. The purpose of this study is to develop and standardize the Korean Occupational Stress Scale (KOSS) which is considered to be unique and specific occupational stressors in Korean employees. Subjects and Methods: Data were obtained from the National Study for Development and Standardization of Occupational Stress (NSDSOS Project: 2002-2004). A total of 12,631 employees from a nationwide sample proportional to the Korean Standard Industrial Classification and the Korean Standard Occupational Classification were administered. The KOSS was developed for 2 years (2002-2004). In the first year, we collected 255 items from the most popular job stress measurement tools such as JCQ, ERI, NIOSH and OSI, and 44 items derived from the a qualitative study (depth interview). Forty-three items of KOSS, in the second year, were retained for use in the final version of the KOSS by using Delphi and factor analysis. Items were scored using conventional 1-2-3-4 Likert scores for the response categories. Results: We developed eight subscales by using factor analysis and validation process: physical environment (3 items), job demand (8 items), insufficient job control (5 items), interpersonal conflict (4 items), job insecurity (6 items), organizational system (7 items), lack of reward (6 items), and occupational climate (4 items). Together they explained 50.0% of total variance. Internal consistency alpha scores were ranged from 0.51 to 0.82. Twenty-four items of the short form of the KOSS (KOSS-SF) were also developed to estimate job stress in the work setting. Because the levels of the subscales of occupational stress were gender dependent, gender-specific standard norms for both the 43-item full version and the 24-item short form using a quartile for the subscales of KOSS were presented. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that KOSS might be an appropriate measurement scale to estimate occupational stress of Korean employees. Further and more detailed study needs to be conducted to improve the validity of this scale.

      • GOCI의 한반도 관측빈도 분석 기법

        The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is completing development to provide a monitoring of Ocean Color around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be launched onboard Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. It will be the first ocean color imager to operate from geostationary orbit. The mission is designed to significantly improve ocean observation by providing a high frequency coverage. The GOCI is designed to provide multi-spectral data to detect, monitor, quantify, and predict short-term changes of coastal ocean environment for marine science research and application purpose such as red-tide detection, oil-spill, turbid water and algal blooms events. This paper gives an overview of the observation data frequency and observation area analysis for description of the GOCI data design and main characteristics using MODIS data.         전수면박탈이 정상인의 생리기능과 인지기능에 미치는 영향

        Objectives : Purpose of this study was to investigate physiological and neurocognitive effects of total sleep deprivation by using laboratory blood tests and the computerized neurocognitive function test in healthy subjects. Methods : Sixteen healthy volunteers participated in this study. Subjects were recommended to remain awake for 48 hour sunder continuous surveillance. Lab tests of cortisol, Prolactin, thyroid hormone, growth hormone, and immunoglobulin (IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, IgE), CBC, BC and the Vienna test were performed before and after 48 hours of total sleep deprivation. Results : Concentration of T3 and T4 significantly increased after deprivation. In the reaction test, distribution reaction time significantly increased, and correct reaction significantly decreased. In the vigilance test, amount of correct reaction Signifi-cantly decreased, and the mean value of correct reaction time was significantly delayed. Level of fasting blood sugar, total protein, albumin, alkaline phosphatase and potassium significantly increased, respectively, except for the level of total bilirubin which was decreased. After total sleep deprivation, WBC counts significantly increased. Regarding immunoglobulin level, IgG,IgA and Ag M concentrations appeared to decrease, but the results were not statistically significant. Conclusion : The effect of total sleep deprivation on physiological function was significant in the level of thyroid hormone. Although statistically not significant, the results of growth hormone and the immune system showed a trend in relations to the effect oftotal sleep deprivation. Results of blood chemistry suggest that sleep dephvation may influence metabolism Of hepato-biliary system. Cognitive impairment was also seen in reactive and vigilant functions after total sleep deprivation.

      • 미스트 분무 및 스프링클러 관수가 단동 플라스틱 하우스에 미치는 냉각효과

        As crops recently can be cultivated all the year in greenhouses, we need to improve the environment in which crops are able to grow in the summer. Therefore, in this study, we quantitatively got the cooling effects of 4 single span plastic greenhouses in the following ways : by spraying mist or sprinkler, or by opening the side window. and with those variables, we simultaneously did experiments at 4 greenhouses under equivalent conditions to reduce the temperature of the greenhouses in the summer. The results of the experiments are as following : 1) The temperatures of the greenhouses were effectively reduced by both spraying mist and sprinkler. 2) When the mist is intermittently sprayed. the indoor temperature has decreased by 4 degrees centigrade, meanwhile, in the greenhouse to make experiments using sprinkler, the temperature of that has been reduced by 2 degrees centigrade. Therefore, we can see the cooling effects of smaller mist in size as more effective than those of sprinkler. 3) When the greenhouse is naturally ventilated by opening the side window, we have to apply another cooling system because the indoor temperature is higher than the outdoor one.

      • 환경영향평가에서 EIS 활용 방안

        This Study aims to analyze of the application of Environment Information System(EIS) in Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) and to understand the appropriateness of Land Aptitude Assessment System. To draw up the improvement of this system approach, we made the land aptitude assessment system(ALGOSA) which is used to evaluate the effective demand of land development and land conservation. Framework to analyze the objectives of the application of Environment Information System(EIS) in Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) is to improve environmental conservation and decision-making. In order to overcome a limit in ETA system, the application of the land aptitude assessment system using GIS methods was very useful for local plan of conservation of environment. However, this system need to improve the selection standards of GIS parameters and statistical methods for the desirable land assessment system. Therefore the ETS in EIA system to integrate environmental concerns in planing, processes and frameworks has been reformed.

      • 적조정보관측의 위성활용 연구

        In order to determine the spatial and temporal scales of red tide in Korea, satellite remote sensing has been successfully provided to monitoring and detecting harmful algal bloom. A good correlation between chlorophyll-a concentration and algal bloom has been observed using MODIS. The MODIS data used to determine temporal and spatial variations of red tide in Korea. However, a chlorophyl anomaly calculated from two month averaged MODIS chlorophyll a concentration is useful to detect the potential algal bloom from the non-bloom water. Most efforts to detect the red tide have focused on concentration of chlorophyll a using empirical or model-based relationships between spectral reflectance or radiance and chlorophyll a concentration. However, the algorithm was not robust in Case II waters with presence of colored dissolved organic matters(CDOM) and suspended materials. The objective of this study is to identify the red-tide index characteristics of HAB using satellite chlorophyll a concentration, to differentiate red tide water, and to finally mapping HAB areas used red-tide index.       • GIS기법에 의한 한반도 수달 서식지의 공간분석

        The purpose of this study is to suggest the spatial data analysis for Otter habitats in the Korean peninsula using GIS techniques. The spatial analysis of Otter habitats were carried with DEM(digital elevation model) and land-cover data with satellite image. The averaged air temperature and otter distribution map data were analyzed with each cell units. The each cell size of this study was 13.75 km and 11 km scale. The Otter habitats of study area are correlated with DEM and distance of urbanization area. The forest area from satellite land-cover have the most habitats site of southern part in Korea.

      • 생태통로의 공간분석과 평가

        The purpose of this study was to assessment the ecological problems of eco- bridges in Pyeong Taek city. The spacial data for analysis was obtained from satellite image of IKONOS and ecological factors by digital map. The wildlife around the eco-bridges and habitats data were surveyed. The two eco-bridges were compared by their bridge shape and condition of location using field data, digital topology maps, satellite images, and land use map. The spatial analysis was carried by ArcGIS 9.2 and ENVI 4.5 solution. Because of unsuitable location and management, the eco-bridges are not proper for ecosystem management and road-kills wildlife.
