        Repellent efficacy of essential oils and plant extracts against Tribolium castaneum and Plodia interpunctella

        This study was conducted to investigate the repellent efficacy of essential oils (Origanum vulgare, Pimpinella anisum, and Tanacetum cinerariifolium) and four plant extracts (Agastache rugosa, Capsicum annuum, Citrus reticulata, and Ginkgo biloba) against Tribolium castaneum (adults and larvae) and Plodia interpunctella (larvae). Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis revealed the presence of carvacrol, anethole, and jasmolin I as the predominant constituent in O. vulgare, P. anisum, and T. cinerariifolium, respectively. Furthermore, ethyl hexopyranoside, 9,12‐octadecadienoic acid, cyclopentanol, and 2‐cresol were identified in A. rugosa, C. annuum, C. reticulata, and G. biloba, respectively. The repellent efficacy of each essential oil, plant extract, and the combination of oils was evaluated using a specially designed cylinder trap for 120 h. Among the three oils, O. vulgare and T. cinerariifolium had greatest repellent efficacy against P. interpunctella larvae. T. cinerariifolium exhibited effective repellence against the adults and larvae of T. castaneum. Therefore, O. vulgare (O) and T. cinerariifolium (T) were selected for further investigation of combined effects. Two essential oils were mixed in three different ratios of OT1 (1:3), OT2 (1:1), and OT3 (3:1). The repellent efficacies of OT1 and OT2 against the adults of T. castaneum were significantly greater than that of OT3. OT1 was effective against the larvae of T. castaneum, whereas OT2 was effective against the larvae of P. interpunctella. OT1 enhanced the repellent efficacy by approximately five times against larvae of T. castaneum, compared with that of T. cinerariifolium. Overall, OT1 was selected as the best repellent substance against all the tested insects.

        Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a very rare malignancy, and little is known concerning its Pathogenesis, optimal treatment, and prognosis. A 29-year-o1d pregnant woman (21 weeks) Presented with abdominal discomfort CA 19-9, CA 125, and CEA were normal Abdominal CT scanning revealed a 19x15x13 cm retropentoneal tumor Exploratory laparotomy and tumor excision were performed. Mucinous retropentoneal implants were removed as completely as possible Histologically, the tumor showed focal areas of capsular invasion, but free resection margins The uterus and both ovaries were normal in appearance No adjuvant therapy was pursued. Six months later, Peritoneal and bilateral ovarian metastases were discovered. Hence, we report the details of this case of primary retroperitoneal mucinous Cystadeno-carcinoma and present a review of the literature.

        Acinar cell carcinoma is a rare tumor that represents 1~2% of al1 pancreatic cancers. Clinical and radiologic findings are inconclusive in this disease Acinar cell carcinoma is characterized by rapid progression and early metastasis, which lead to its poor prognosis. A 41-year-o1d man was admitted to our hospital for abdominal pain. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) showed a splenic mass, which was being invaded by a pancreatic tail mass and which had increased ^(18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake Primary radical distal pancreatectomy and splenectomy were performed. Pathologic findings revealed an acinar cell carcinoma of the Pancreas The patient underwent a total gastrectomy three months later because of gastric recurrence Four months later, multiple hepatic metastases were discovered, and the patient underwent a left hepatectomy During treatment with capecitabine, there was no evidence of tumor progression for 14 months. We report a case of metastatic pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma, which did not progress for an extended period while the patient was being treated with capecitabme.

        저출산・고령사회 이슈에 대한 정책대응 과제 : 인천시 사례를 중심으로

        This study was conducted with the need for preparing active measures of the central government and the local government to deal with low fertility and aging society issues and with the purpose of setting the related policy direction. The issues of recent low fertility and aging are experienced globally and the decline of population is detected in Korea as well. Therefore, multilateral efforts are taken to deal with the imminent phenomenon at the governmental level. Incheon Metropolitan City, with its population of 3 million, is one of the big cities in rapid progress of low fertility and aging phenomenon. While the total fertility rate of Incheon is 1.21 (Statistics Korea, 2015) which is the similar level with the national average, it is far below the population replacement level and has continuously been recording the low figures since 2000. Besides, the elderly population rate in 2014 was 10.3%, a 5.5% increase compared to the previous year. It is expected that the population aging would be accelerated for the next 30 years and it is forecasted that the elderly population rate of Incheon would reach around 30% by 2040. According to the survey results of general citizens on this population change, more than half of the respondents seriously recognized the shift to the low fertility and aging society and demanded the measures to deal with the issues. To set the policy direction in association with the central government within the local region, this study explores the tasks to deal with the policy and the demands for the policy in Incheon Metropolitan City. 본 연구는 저출산・고령사회 이슈에 대응하여 중앙정부와 더불어 지자체의 적극적 대책마련의 필요성과 정책방향성 수립을 위한 목적으로 시도되었다. 최근 저출산과 고령화의 문제는 전 세계적으로 경험되는 문제이며 또한 우리나라에서도 인구의 변화가 감지되고 있는 상황이다. 이에 정부차원에서 이미 저출산과 고령화 문제를 경험하고 대처하고 있는 선진국의 사례를 검토하면서, 다가올 현상에 대해 대응할 수 있기 위한 다각적 노력이 진행되고 있다. 인천시는 인구 300만 시대가 임박하는 상황에서 저출산과 고령화 현상이 빠르게 진행되고 있는 대도시중 하나이다. 인천시의 합계출산율은 1.21명으로 전국평균과 동일한 수준에 있지만 인구대체수준에는 크게 못 미치는 상황이며, 2000년 이래 지속적으로 낮은 수치를 기록하고 있다. 또한 2014년 노인인구 구성비는 10.3%로 전년대비 5.5% 증가되었으며, 향후 30년간 고령화가 빠른 속도로 진행될 것으로 전망되며 오는 2040년 인천의 고령인구비율이 약 30%로 예측되고 있다. 이러한 인구변화에 대해 일반 시민들에게 저출산・고령화 사회로의 변화는 실태조사결과 절반 이상이 심각하게 인지하고 있는 상황이며, 이에 대한 대책마련을 요구하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 중앙정부와 연계성 있는 지역 내 정책방향 수립을 위해 인천시 사례를 들어 지역에서의 정책에 대한 시민체감도와 정책 수요, 또 정책대응의 과제를 살펴보고자 한다.

      • 돼지감자 에탄올 추출물의 구강편평세포암 YD-10B 사멸효과

        Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L.) is a perennial plants, its natural compound is known to exhibit blood sugar control. In this study, we investigated the growth inhibitory effect of ethanol extract of Jerusalem artichoke on oral squamous carcinoma YD-10B cells. Jerusalem artichoke tubers were extracted by ethanol and treated for cell viability. The ethanol extract of Jerusalem artichoke showed the most significant growth inhibitory effect at 1000 Lg/ml concentrations. It was confirmed that apoptosis was induced in the Sub-G1 step by treating the ethanol extract of Jerusalem artichoke, at a concentration of 1000 Lg/ml. As a result, it was more than twice as high as that of the control group. In conclusion, it is suggested that the ethanol extract of Jerusalem artichoke exhibits high inhibition of proliferation and apoptosis of YD-10B cells, and thus has a possibility as an anticancer drug.

      • Pd(Ⅱ)이온과 Linear Poly(ethyleneimine)간에 생성되는 고분자-금속 착물의 구조와 성질에 관한 연구

        Pd(II) metal ion has attracted interest of many researchers because of its potential applications and of its similarity and difference in chemical properties. In this study, complex formation of Pd(II) metal ion with polymeric amine ligand namely, linear poly(ethyleneimine)(LPEI), was investigated utilizing spectroscopic and potentiometric methods as well as elementary analysis. From UV/VIS spectroscopic study, complexation of LEPI to Pd(II) ion exhibit an absorption band at 347nm at the low mole ratio (below 2.0). This species can be understood either as the binuclear complex bridged by chloride ions or a complex of Pd(II) ion with three chloride ions and an amine group. At the high mixing ratio, absorption spectrum centered at 300nm was apparent, which is due to the complexation of LPEI to the Pd(II) ion. Mole ratio analysis for the LPEI-Pd(II) system revealed that complex formation was most stable at the LPEI ratio of 4.0 relative to metal ion. This result was confirmed by elementary analysis. From the potentiometric titration, successive and overall stability constants were measured and the results were analyzed by a modified Bjerrum method.

      • 남자 초·중학생의 무산소성 작업능력과 무산소성 파워의 관계

        The critical power(CP) is the highest intensity to sustain for a long time without a fatigue. The anaerobic work capacity(AWC) is the highest anaerobic capacity to be provided by anaerobic energy system without the infection of hypoxia. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between AWC and AnP and to verify the validity of AWC. The subjects were consisted of 10 elementary and 10 middle school male students(12.8±1.3yrs, 159.3±12.1㎝, 49.4±11.8㎏). The critical power and anaerobic work capacity were calculated by work-time relationship after four cycle ergometry test to fatigue from 1 to 10 minute. The anaerobic power included Margaria-Kalmen test, Sargent jump and Wingate test. The main finding were as follows. The AWC of elementary and middle school students. were 6.47±2.63KJ and 11.10±3.01KJ. The AWC of elementary students was 58.3% of the middle school students's one. The AnP of elementary students were 47.2∼66.5% of the middle school students's one. And there were high correlation between AWC and AnP(0.64∼0.87, P<0.01). This study showed that AWC is useful index on AnP both elementary and middle school students.

      • Ultrasoft X선을 이용한 탄수화물분해효소를 고생산하는 Lipomyces Starkeyi 돌연변이 개발 및 특성 연구

        We have isolated a carbohydrase(dextranase and amylase; DXAMase) hyper-producing constitutive mutant from Lipomyces starkeyi JLC26 using ultrasoft X-ray irradiation obtained from Pohang accelerator laboratory(PAL). After partial purification of dextranase and amylase by membrane filtration, PEG, and DEAE-Sepharose column chromatography, the specific activities of amylase and dextranase were 3193 and 2822 unit/mg, respectively. The pH effects for activity and stability of both enzymes were similar to each other: Optimum pH and temperature for activity were at 5.5 and 50℃ and optimum ranges for stability were at pH 2.5-6.0 and 4-37℃, respectively. When the enzyme and maltotriose were reacted, glucose, maltose, isomaltose, maltotriose, panose and α (1→6) glucosylmaltotriose were produced by disproportionation reaction. When the enzyme and nigerose were reacted, glucose, nigerose, new product were produced.
