Sampled-data H<sub>~</sub> fuzzy filtering for nonlinear systems with missing measurements

<P>In this paper, a sampled-data H-infinity fuzzy filtering problem is considered for nonlinear systems with missing measurements. The nonlinear sampled-data system and missing measurements are assumed to be represented by a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system and an independent, identically distributed Bernoulli random process, respectively. Based on the fuzzy system, the H-infinity fuzzy filtering problem is formulated to design the sampled-data fuzzy filter. By using the exponential mean-square stability definition, the stability condition with an H-infinity performance is guaranteed for the fuzzy system with the sampled-data fuzzy filter, and its sufficient condition is converted into the linear matrix inequality (LMI) format. Finally, an example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy filtering technique. (C) 2016 Elsevier B. V. All rights reserved.</P>

<P>Abstract</P><P>Aims </P><P>Kir6.2 is found in the pancreatic B-cell, cardiac and skeletal muscle and non-vascular smooth muscle. <I>KCNJ11</I>, encoding Kir6.2, has been shown to be associated with both Type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease in several populations. In this study, we investigated whether polymorphisms in <I>KCNJ11</I> are associated with Type 2 diabetes and other metabolic phenotypes in the Korean population.</P><P><B>Methods </B></P><P>We sequenced <I>KCNJ11</I> to identify common polymorphisms using 24 Korean DNA samples. Of the 14 polymorphisms found in <I>KCNJ11</I>, six common ones [genomic sequence (g.)−1709A>T, g.−1525T>C, g.67G>A (E23K), g.570C>T (A190A), g.1009A>G (I337V), and g.1388C>T] were genotyped in 761 Type 2 diabetic patients and in 630 non-diabetic subjects.</P><P><B>Results</B> </P><P>All the polymorphic loci in <I>KCNJ11</I> are in strong linkage disequilibrium in the Korean population and act as one haplotype block. g.67G>A and g.1009A>G were associated with an increased risk of Type 2 diabetes [age, sex, and body mass index (BMI)-adjusted odds ratios (OR) = 1.376 (1.085–1.745), <I>P</I> = 0.008 and 1.411 (1.111–1.791), <I>P</I> = 0.005, respectively], as was one haplotype (A-T-A-C-G-C in the order of polymorphisms as shown above) containing g.67A and g.1009G [OR = 1.359 (1.080–1.709), <I>P</I> = 0.009]. The haplotype (A-T-A-C-G-C) was also strongly associated with hypertension [OR = 1.655 (1.288–2.126), <I>P</I> < 0.001].</P><P><B>Conclusions </B></P><P>Polymorphisms in <I>KCNJ11</I> are associated with Type 2 diabetes and also with hypertension in the Korean population.</P>

Acta Neurol Scand: 2011: 123: 325–331. © 2010 John Wiley & Sons A/S.</P><P><B>Background – </B> It has not been clarified whether the disparity in ischemic stroke outcome between populations is caused by ethnic and geographic differences or by variations in case mix. Propensity score matching (PSM) analysis can overcome some analytical problems but is rarely used in stroke outcome research. This study was to compare the ischemic stroke case‐fatality between two PSM cohorts of Sweden and Korea.</P><P><B>Methods – </B> Prognostic variables related to baseline characteristics and stroke care were included in our PSM model. Then, we selected 7675 Swedish and 1220 Korean patients with ischemic stroke from each stroke registers and performed one‐to‐one matching based on propensity scores of each patient.</P><P><B>Results – </B> After PSM, all measured variables were well balanced in 1163 matched subjects, and the 90‐day case‐fatality was identical 6.2% (HR 0.997, 95%CI 0.905–1.099) in Sweden and Korea.</P><P><B>Conclusions – </B> No difference is found in the 90‐day case‐fatality in propensity score‐matched Swedish and Korean patients with ischemic stroke.</P>

<P>Tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) is the only recommended pharmacological treatment for acute ischemic stroke. However, tPA can induce intracerebral hemorrhage by blood-brain barrier breakdown through an increase in matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Previously, we showed that isoflurane postconditioning reduced intracranial hemorrhage following tPA treatment after cerebral ischemia. Here, we investigated the mechanism by which isoflurane postconditioning reduces tPA-induced MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation following hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) in brain endothelial cells. Mouse brain endothelial cells (bEnd.3) were exposed to 6 h of oxygen-glucose deprivation and 3 h of reoxygenation with tPA. Cells were treated with isoflurane for 1 h of the reoxygenation condition and the effect of isoflurane postconditioning on MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation was assessed. Involvement of low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein (LRP), which is a receptor for tPA, and the extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) and NF-kappa B pathway in isoflurane postconditioning was assessed using LRP inhibitor (receptor-associated protein, RAP) and ERK-1/2 inhibitor (PD98059). Isoflurane postconditioning decreased tPA-induced MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation under H/R. tPA treatment under H/R increased expression of LRP and the active form of NF-kappa B. Isoflurane postconditioning suppressed LRP expression, increased ERK-1/2 activation, and suppressed MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation, comparable to the effect of RAP. Activation of ERK-1/2, inhibition of NF-kappa B activation, and suppression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation by isoflurane postconditioning were abolished with PD98059 treatment. These finding indicate that isoflurane postconditioning inhibits tPA-induced MMP-2 and MMP-9 activation following H/R via the LRP/ERK/NF-kappa B pathway in bEnd.3.</P>

Electrolyte analyzer is one of widely used instrument in the hospitals and laboratories. In this paper, a desktop electrolyte analyzer which can detect and display both ion concentrations of hydrogen and sodium in the solution using ISFET is developed. We designed hardware of the system including signal-processing circuit for multiple sensor and flow system consist of a sample chamber unit and 12 actuators. For the efficient control of the system, 2-point calibration, measurement and washing algorithms are also developed. We compare the pH, pNa values measured by the developed system with those measured by reference system and verified the performance.

<P>In the designing stage of subsea pipelines, the design parameters, such as pipe materials, thickness and diameters, are carefully determined to guarantee flow assurance and structural safety. However, once corrosion occurs in pipelines, the operating pressure should be decreased to prevent the failure of pipelines. Otherwise, an abrupt burst can occur in the corroded region of the pipeline, and it leads to serious disasters in the environment and financial loss. Accordingly, the relationship between the corrosion amount and failure pressure of the pipeline, i.e., the maximum operating pressure, should be investigated, and then, the assessment guideline considering the failure pressure should be identified. There are several explicit type codes that regulate the structural safety for corroded subsea pipelines, such as ASME B31G, DNV RF 101, ABS Building and Classing Subsea Pipeline Systems, and API 579. These rules are well defined; however, there are some limitations associated with describing precise failure pressure. Briefly, all of the existing rules cannot consider the material nonlinearity, such as elastoplasticity effect of the pipeline, as well as the actual three-dimensional corrosion shape. Therefore, the primary aim of this study is to suggest a modified formula parameter considering the above-mentioned pipeline and corrosion characteristics. As a result, the material nonlinearity as well as the corrosion configuration, i.e., axial/circumferential corrosion length, width and depth, is reflected in a set of finite element models and a series of finite element analysis considering the operation conditions are followed. Based on the comparative study between the simulation and analytical results, which can be obtained from the classification society rules, the modified formulae for failure pressure calculation are proposed.</P>

<P>The metal oxide pillared ordered-mesoporous Co3O4 was investigated to design a stable and superior catalyst for CO hydrogenation into linear hydrocarbons through Fischer Tropsch Synthesis (FTS) reaction. Enhanced structural stability was observed in ordered-mesoporous Co3O4 even under hydrogen-excess conditions after modification with a metal oxide pillar of Al2O3. The mesoporous Co3O4 was synthesized using a hard template of highly ordered three dimensional mesoporous KIT-6. A small number of metal oxide pillars such as Al2O3, Mn2O4, and SiO2 with 5 wt% were subsequently added to the orderedmesoporous Co3O4 through the incipient wetness impregnation method. The Al2O3-modifed mesoporous Co3O4 catalyst demonstrated superior CO conversion with a stable activity in CO hydrogenation reaction. The enhanced catalytic stability seems to be attributable to the lower mobility of the Al2O3 pillar which formed stronger interactions with the mesoporous Co3O4 inner surfaces. The Al2O3 modification can effectively stabilize ordered-mesoporous structures of Co3O4 by acting as an ordered mesoporous channel reactor and enhancing the transport rate of hydrocarbons formed during FTS reaction.
