        19세기 남병철 『의기집설(儀器輯說)』 혼천의 용법 분석

        The armillary sphere, an astronomical observation device embodying the Orbital Heaven Theory of the Later Han Dynasty in China, holds both historical and scientific significance. It has been produced in various forms by many individuals since its inception in the era of King Sejong in the Joseon Dynasty. A prominent figure in this field was Nam Byeong-cheol (南秉哲, 1817-1863), known for his work 'Uigijipseol' (儀器輯說), published in 1859, which detailed the history, production methods, and usage of the armillary sphere. This text particularly highlights 21 applications of the armillary sphere, divided into 33 measurements, covering aspects like installation, time, and positional measurements, supplemented with explanations of spherical trigonometry. Despite numerous records of the armillary sphere's design during the Joseon Dynasty, detailed usage information remains scarce. In this study, the 33 measurements described in 'Uigijipseol' (儀器輯說) were systematically classified into six for installation, nineteen for position measurement, seven for time measurement, and one for other purposes. Additionally, the measurement methods were analyzed and organized by dividing them into the ecliptic ring, moving equatorial ring, and fixed equatorial ring of the armillary sphere. In other words, from a modern astronomical perspective, the results of schematization for each step were presented by analyzing it from the viewpoint of longitude, right ascension, and solar time. Through the analysis of Nam's armillary sphere, this study not only aims to validate the restoration model of the armillary sphere but also suggests the potential for its use in basic astronomical education based on the understanding of the 19th-century Joseon armillary sphere.

        Sclerotiorin and Isochromophilone IV : Inhibitors of Grb2-Shc Interaction,Isolated from Penicillium multicolor F1753

        Grb2 is an important adaptor protein in the mitogenic Ras signaling pathway of receptor tyrosine kinases, and contains one SH2 domain and two SH3 domains. The SH2 domain binds to specific phosphotyrosine motifs on receptors or adaptor proteins such as Shc. The SH2 domain antagonists may lead to blocking of the oncogenic Ras signals and to developing new antitumor agents. In the course of screening SH2 antagonists from natural sources, sclerotiorin (1) and isochromophilone Ⅳ (2) were isolated from a strain, Penicilliwn multicolor F 1753, and their structures were established by NMR spectral data. The metabolites significantly inhibited the binding between the Grb2-SH2 domain and phosphopeptide derived from the Shc protein, with IC_50 values of 22μM and 48μM for (1) and (2). respectively. The compounds are the first nonpeptidic inhibitors of the SH2 domain from a natural source.

        A Modified Selective Ground Relay for Ungrounded Distribution Systems

        Selective ground relays (SGRs) are useful fur distinguishing a faulted feeder from the sound feeders in ungrounded systems. However, they sometimes mis-operate due to human or device errors. Particularly, the reversed polarity of zero-sequence current transducers (ZCTs) is the most frequent cause of mis-operation. This paper presents a modified SGR for reducing the probability of mis-operations caused by the reversed polarity of ZCTs. The modification is achieved by introducing an adaptive time delay, which depends on the magnitude of the zero-sequence current and the phase angle deviation from the reference. The modified SGR was successfully demonstrated on a sample ungrounded system without mis-operation.

        Background: Female pattern hair loss (FPHL) is a common disorder, but also a severe psychosocial problem for many female patients. Adipose tissue-derived stem cells (ADSCs) and conditioned media of ADSCs (ADSC-CM) are reported to promote hair growth in vitro. However, there are no clinical reports regarding the treatment of alopecia using ADSC-CM Objectives: This study aims to evaluate our clinical experience regarding the use of ADSC-CM for the treatment of FPHL Methods: We performed a retrospective, observational study consisting of 27 patients with FPHL who received applications of ADSC-CM. To evaluate the efficacy of the treatment, their medical records and phototrichogram images were analyzed Results: ADSC-CM showed efficacy in treating FPHL after 12 weeks of therapy. Hair density increased from 105.4 to 122.7 counts/cm²(P < 0.001). Hair thickness increased from 57.5 to 64.0μm (P < 0.001). None of the patients reported severe adverse reactions. Conclusion: The application of ADSC-CM is a potential treatment option for FPHL.

        Reduction of Renal Fibrosis as a Result of Liposome Encapsulated Clodronate Induced Macrophage Depletion after Unilateral Ureteral Obstruction in Rats

        <P><I>Background/Aim:</I> Macrophages have been thought to play a role in renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis; recent reports have demonstrated an antifibrotic effect of macrophages in late-stage renal fibrosis. Liposome-encapsulated clodronate (LC) produces a selective and systemic depletion of phagocytic macrophages in vivo. To study the role of initial infiltrating macrophages in renal fibrosis, we compared the effects of pretreatment with LC and a liposome vehicle for control of the severity of renal fibrosis in a unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) rat model. <I>Methods:</I> One day after a single intravenous injection of LC or liposome vehicle, the rats underwent UUO. Following 1, 5, and 14 days, the kidneys were examined to evaluate macrophage infiltration and renal fibrosis. <I>Results:</I> LC depleted macrophages systemically and reduced renal fibrosis associated with UUO; this beneficial effect was accompanied by a decrease of transforming growth factor beta mRNA expression. The osteopontin expression was also reduced by pretreatment with LC. <I>Conclusion:</I> Initial interstitial infiltration of macrophages contributes to tubulointerstitial fibrosis in UUO.</P><P>Copyright © 2007 S.       • P106 : Epidemiologic study on methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and use of topical antibiotics in Korean children

        Background: There is some concern that the abuse of over-the-count topical antibiotics will increase the resistance of antibiotics. Objectives: We investigated the correlation between the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and the overuse of topical antibiotics Methods: Eighty one children with atopic dermatitis and 102 normal children were enrolled in 5 hospitals. Two discrete areas of skin were cultured by sterile cotton tip swab in all subjects for isolation of resistant bacteria. The features of topical antibiotics use were surveyed with questionnaire. The target topical antibiotics were mupirocin, fusidic acid, and gentamicin. Results: The detection rate of MRSA in children with atopic dermatitis who tend to use topical antibiotics more was significantly higher than in the normal children (P<0.001). The ratio of topical mupirocin use and the amount of it were significantly higher in MRSA group than in negative culture group (P=0.004, P=0.004, respectively). Conclusion: There is a possibility that the increased use of topical antibiotics can be associated with the antibiotic resistance. However a large-sized, prospective study based on our study is recommended to prove it properly.

        부산지역에서 분리된 norovirus 유전자형 연구

        2008년부터 2010년까지 최근 3년 동안 부산지역에서 산발적으로 발생한 급성 위장관염 환자를 대상으로 유전자를 검사한 결과 4,101건 중 426건(10.4%)에서 노로바이러스를 확인하였다. 연도별 검출현황은 2008년에 14.7%(222/1,506), 2009년에 6.9%(95/1,384), 2010년에 9.0%(109/1,211)로 나타났다. 월별 분석 결과는 2008년에는 3월에 35.7%(50/140)로 가장 높은 검출율을 보였고, 2009년 역시 3월에 21.9%(23/105)로 높게 나타났으며, 2010년에는 1월에 23.8%(29/122)로 높은 검출율을 보여 겨울절기에 노로바이러스가 유행하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 반면 매해 7-8월 여름절기에는 노로바이러스가 거의 분리되지 않았다. 연령별 로는 1세 영아군과 13-19세 중등학생군에서 각각 20.9%로 가장 높은 검출율을 나타내었으며, 2-6세 소아군에서 17.5%, 20-29세군에서 13.4%, 7-12세 초등학생군에서 12.7%, 30-39세군에서 9.1%, 0세 신생아군에서 8.7%, 50-59세군에서 7.2%, 60-69세군과 70세이상군에서 각각 6.7%, 40-49세 4.5%로 확인되었다. 노로바이러스 양성 검체 340건에서 유전자형을 분석한 결과 GI군 7종류, GII군 13종류로 총 20종류가 검출되어 다양한 유전자형의 노로바이러스들이 유행함을 알 수 있었다. 연구결과 부산지역에서는 GI군이 21.8%(76/348), GII군이 78.2%(272/348)로 GII군이 우세하여 유행하였고, 유전자형 총 20종 중 GII.4형이 49.1%로 가장 많이 검출되었다. Norovirus (NoV) causes major acute non-bacterial gastroenteritis in humans. NoV genus is a member of the family Caliciviridae, which is transmitted by contaminated food and water or from human to human. Many genotypes of genogroups Ⅰ and Ⅱ have been reported because of their high genetic diversity. To obtain molecular epidemiological information on gastroenteritis sporadic cases in Busan, Korea, we analyzed the nucleotide sequences of NoV strains detected during 2008~2010. We performed one step RT-PCR amplifying the open reading frame (ORF) 2 (capsid region) followed by semi-nested PCR. Fecal samples were collected from 4,071 acute gastroenteritis, and genotypes of the 421 positive samples were determined by sequence analysis. Based on partial sequence of capsid region, 7 NoV were categorized into genogroup Ⅰ and 13 into genogroup Ⅱ. Prevalent genotypes among gastroenteritis patients within Busan were GII.4, GI.6, GII.5 in 2008~2010. The results of this study will contribute to the currently available epidemiological data and improve public health and hygiene via development of diagnostic methods and sustainable surveillance.

        Ultrastructural Changes of Hepatic Stellate Cells in the Space of Disse in Alcoholic Fatty Liver

        N/A Background: Hepatic stellate cell (HSC) has been suggested to play a role in fibrogenesis in alcoholic liver disease. We evaluate the correlation with fibrogenesis and ultrastructure of hepatic stellate cells in alcoholic fatty liver. Methods: We studied 6 patients with alcoholic fatty liver and 5 non-alcoholic fatty liver. The numbers off at droplets in hepatic stellate cell was determined by electron microscopy. We also studied the grading of deposition of collagen fibers in the space of Disse. We were to evaluate the structure of hepatic stellate cells in the space of Disse by light and electron microscopy. Results: Wider distribution of fat droplets in hepatic stellate cells in alcoholic fatty liver than in normal liver. The hypertrophied endoplasmic reticulum in hepatic stellate cells is a prominent findings in alcoholic fatty liver. We observed basement membrane-like materials in patients with alcoholic fatty liver with hepatic fibrosis. Conclusion: The results demonstrate that, in patients with alcoholic fatty liver by alcoholic liver injury, the hepatic stellate cells may play an important role in the fibrogenesis of perisinusoidal spaces in the liver.

        Alternative Sigma Factor HrpL of Pectobacterium carotovorum 35 is Important for the Development of Soft-rot Symptoms

        A bacterial artificial chromosome library of Pectobacterium carotovorum 35 was constructed to characterize the genome and to sequence its hrp region. The hrp cluster of P. carotovorum 35 consisted of 26 open reading frames in five operons. A promoter-based green fluorescent protein technology was used to identify the genes regulated by the alternative sigma factor, HrpL, in P. carotovorum 35. The majority of the selected clones contained the hrpJ operon promoter sequence, which harbors a hrp box, but no putative hrp boxes were detected within the promoter sequences of two other hrpL-regulated genes encoding for pectate lyase and large repetitive protein. Although the promoters of five other hrp operons also contained hrp boxes, their expression was not HrpL-dependent in the promoter-based selection in E. coli. However, transcriptional analysis showed that expression from all operons harboring hrp boxes, except for the hrpN operon, was reduced significantly in the hrpL mutant. The severity of soft-rot symptoms when the hrpL mutant was applied to the surface of tobacco leaves, mimicking natural infection, was greatly attenuated. These results indicate that the hrpL gene of P. carotovorum 35 may be involved in the development of soft-rot symptoms.
