The aim of this study was to evaluate the improvement of testicular sperm motility following different culture conditions such as human follicular fluid (hFF) and temperature. Testicular tissues obtained from azoospermia (n=21) were minced into small pieces by blade and recovered sperm suspension were cultured in Ham's F10 with or without 40% hFF at different temperatures (Group I: 37/with hFF, Group II: 32/withGroup III: 37/without, Group IV:32 /without The motility and viability of sperm were monitored during culture for 48 hours. Initial motility of testicular sperm was 10.91.9%. After 24 hours culture, sperm motility was 23.52.1% (Group I), 8.11.1% (Group II), 10.4 1.4% (Group III) and 4.00.8% (Group IV), respectively. After 48 hours, the motility had been changed as 322.3% (Group I), 14.31.7% (Group II), 5.3 1.4% (Group III) and 4.30.9% (Group IV). In hFF group (I and II), sperm motility of group I cultured at 37 was higher than those of group II at 32. But, sperm viability of group I cultured at 37 was lower than those of group II at 32 (54.44.1% vs. 59.43.7%) after cultured for 48 hours. We acquired the best motility of testicular sperm when performed in vitro culture for 48 hours in hFF supplemented medium at 37. Increase of sperm motility by in vitro culture could be useful tool fur human TESE-ICSI program.

North Korean defectors are known to suffer from psychological distress due to the social factors they experience. We investigated psychological distress experienced by female North Korean (NK) defectors in three different migration phases (i.e., North Korea, intermediate countries, and South Korea). Eight female adult North Korean defectors were interviewed for this study in 2020. Interview results were analyzed using quantitative content analysis. A crosscase analysis was conducted to find major themes regarding the psychological distress in each migration phase, and three major themes for the changes in the psychological distress were identified. Female North Korean defectors were found to experience a feeling of helplessness in North Korea and intermediate countries and felt frustrated as encountering the harsh reality in South Korea, but they found peace of mind, positive power, and faith in them. The results suggest that anxiety and stress may remain even after resettling in South Korea, but female NK detectors find hope for in difficulties. We discussed how to address their psychological distress in South Korea based on the findings.

North Korean defectors are known to experience psychological distress due to social factors. We investigated how female North Korean (NK) defectors’ perceptions of mental health problems have changed in North Korea, intermediate countries, and South Korea. Eight female North Korean defectors were interviewed in 2020. A quantitative content analysis was utilized to analyze the interview results. A cross-case analysis was used to find major themes regarding the changes in perception of mental health issues in each migration phase, and four major themes for the perception of mental health issues were identified. Female North Korean defectors had never heard of the term 'mental health' in North Korea and did not look into their own mental health because it was difficult to live without an identity in a third country. They encountered mental health for the first time in Korea and had their own definition of it. Although some subjects approached mental health services on their own when experiencing psychological distress after becoming aware of mental health, others responded negatively to mental health, such as having difficulty sharing their trauma. As a result of this study, it suggests that although the study participants come to Korea and develop an awareness of mental health, there is still a lack of information on mental health services and there are still untreated mental health problems. Based on the results of this study, ways to increase their access to mental health services in Korea are discussed.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the changes in thickness of each macular retinal layer, theperipapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL), and central macular thickness (CMT) after 577-nm pattern scanninglaser (PASCAL) photocoagulation in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Methods: This retrospective study included 33 eyes with diabetic retinopathy that underwent 577-nm PASCALphotocoagulation. Each retinal layer thickness, peripapillary RNFL thickness, and CMT were measured byspectral-domain optical coherence tomography before 577-nm PASCAL photocoagulation, as well as at 1,6, and 12 months after 577-nm PASCAL photocoagulation. Computerized intraretinal segmentation of opticalcoherence tomography was performed to identify the thickness of each retinal layer. Results: The average thickness of the RNFL, ganglion cell layer, inner plexiform layer, inner nuclear layer, innerretinal layer, and CMT at each follow-up increased significantly from baseline (p < 0.001), whereas that of theretinal pigment epithelium at each follow-up decreased significantly from baseline (p < 0.001). The averagethickness of the peripapillary RNFL increased significantly at one month (p < 0.001). This thickness subsequentlyrecovered to 7.48 μm, and there were no significant changes at six or 12 months compared to baseline(p > 0.05). Conclusions: Each macular retinal layer and CMT had a tendency to increase for one year after 577-nm PASCALphotocoagulation, whereas the average thickness of retinal pigment epithelium decreased at one-yearfollow-up compared to the baseline. Although an increase in peripapillary RNFL thickness was observed onemonth after 577-nm PASCAL photocoagulation, there were no significant changes at the one-year follow-upcompared to the baseline.
