Proceedings of International Symposium on East-West Medicine, Seoul. 244-254, 1999.-Obesity can be defined as a metabolic disease due to an increased state of fat tissues caused by an imbalance of calorie intake and use. Recently, in Korea by improvement and westernization of food intake, along with decrease in exercise activities, the prevalence of obesity has increased greatly. Our objectives were to study stability and effects of decrease in body fat by administering red ginseng compound preparation (known to have body fat decreasing effects in laboratory animals) to obesity patients on low calorie diets. Changes in weight and body fat were measured while carrying out calorie-restricted diets on patients for 4 weeks, then administering red ginseng compound preparation for another 4 weeks. The patients were 20 people whose BMI were 25kg/㎡ or over and whose percent body fat was also 30% or over when tested by bioelectrical conductivity. 1. Changes in weight were from 70.04kg(base line) to 67.43kg(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 2. In similar sense, BMI decreased from 27.12kg/㎡(base line) to 26.56kg/㎡(after dieting), and further to 26.01kg/㎡ (after taking red ginseng compound preparation). The BMI seemed to decrease significantly compared to the baseline after the use of red ginseng compound. 3. Waist hip ratio was changed from 0.8858(base line) to 0.8728, but it was statistically insignificant. 4. The percent body fat was 35,16%(base line), 33.87%(after dieting), and 31.68%(after taking red ginseng compound preparation). 5. Complete blood cell count and blood chemisrty remained unaffected by the administration. 6. In concern to endocrinologic studies, T3 decreased from 118.7 to 98.2ng/dL, and T4 increased from 8.8 to 9.2㎕/ dL. Epinephrine showed a tendency to decreased from 0.27 to 0.25 ng/mL, and norepinephrine increased from 0.39 to 0.44ng/mL. 7. Leptin was not changed. 8. Some patients complained adverse effects; constipation(5 patients, may be due to diet therapy), fatigue (2 patients), pruritus(2 patients), flushing(s patients), dizziness(3 patients) and epigastric discomfort(2 patients). However their symptoms were mild, so medication did not stopped. In conclusion, loss of weight without significant side effects was observed during low calorie diet and red ginseng compound preparation administration. This is thought to be in relation to sympathetic nerve system rather than adrenal gland. Also, further long0term studies should be required, since the observed results were based on short-term changes in weight.

        의료방사선은 인간의 질병진료와 예밤에 활용되어 각종 질병으로부터의 적절한 진단 및 의학발전에 중대한 역할을 담당하고 띤다. 또한 인공방사선원중 가장 큰 비중을 차지하고 있으며, 방사선원을 이웅한 이득과 손실을 생각쌀 때 피폭선량의 최소화 및 곡률적영향의 최소화를 위해 이득을 최대화하는 노력을 하고 있다. 진단뿐만 아니라 치료에도 사응하고 있는 인공방사선원의 적절한 관리를 위한 조사 및 연구는 국내에서는 아픽까진 실시되지 않았으며, 국외에서는 이미 활발한 조사 덴 연구가 이루어 지 고 있다. 일반적으로 의료기관의 핵의학분야에서 환자의 진단 및 치료에 사용되는 방사성의약품으로는 Tc-99in, Ga-67, 1-131, 71-201 등이 있으며 이를 이용한 방사능측정웅장비 및 치료뭉장비에는 Gamma Camera, 감마선재측기, 베타선계측기, Dose CaTibrator, PET(양전자방출전산화단층촬영장치)등이 있다. 이어 식푿의약품안전청f"서는 핵의학분야의 방사선보건학적 연구를 위해 핵의학분야의 진료와 관련된 인력, 시설, 장비, 방사성의약품의 사응, 핵의학적 진료형태 및 핵의학적 진료장치에 대한 성능관리등에 대해 조사·연구하였다. A nationwide survey was conducted in the Korea in 2001 to determine the facilities available and the level of activity at centres where radionuclide and therapy was practised in 2000. A response rate of 75% indicated that 120 centres were providing radionuclide therapy and diagnosis. About the good treatment of radionuclide using in medical, researched so many country, but not yet in. Generally nuclear medical part use Tc-99m, Ga-67, I-131, Tl-201 in diagnosis and therapy, radiation detector and equipment for therapy use Gamma Camera, beta-counter, Dose Calibrator PET(Positron Emission Tomography). 81% rate of centre has Gamma Camera and 97% rate of use Tc-99m, I-131 radionuclide. In-vitro did more than in-vivo test absolutely. So in KFDA researched in unclear medical part in Man-Power, facilities, equipment use of nuclear medicine, part of diagnosis and diagnosis equipment.

        논문 : 특별기고 : 장인환(張仁煥) 의사(義士)가 사망한 병원과 그 위치에 관한 재고(再考)

        장인환 의사(義士)는 구한말(舊韓末) 일제(日帝)가 한국 침탈의 앞잡이로 대한제국 외부(外部: 외무부)에 고문으로 앉혀 놓았던 미국인 외교관인 스티븐스(D.W. Stevens)를 1908년 3월 23일 미국 샌프란시스코에서 권총으로 저격 척결했다. 장인환의 이 의거로 구한말 일제의 한국침략 야욕에 맞선 국외에서의 국권회복 무장투쟁의 첫 신호탄이 올랐다. 그로부터 1년 7개월 뒤인 1909년 10월 26일에는 안중근 의사(義士)가 만주 하얼빈에서 우리민족의 숙적인 일본의 이등박문(伊藤博文)을 저격 사살하는 의거가 이어졌다. 이 글은 이 글의 공동연구자들이 장인환 의사의 의거 100주년에 때맞추어 발표했던 "장인환 의사의 발자취를 찾아서: 샌프란시스코 지역을 중심으로"라는 제목의 글 후편으로서, 그 글에서 장인환 의사가 1930년 5월 22일에 사망한 병원과 그 위치에 관한 논의가 불충분했었음이 들어나 이를 보완해 보고자 한 것이다. 2010년 5월은 장인환 의사가 타계한 80주년이 되는 달이다. 장인환 의사가 타계한 병원이 『신한민보』에는 샌프란시스코 "시내 안식교회 위생병원"으로 나와 있고, 사망진단서에는 "Health Betterment Institute"(HBI)로 다르게 나와 있어서, 1) 이 두 의료기관이 같은 것인지 다른 것인지, 2) 다르다면 HBI가 안식교회와는 어떤 관계가 있는 기관인지 등을 관련 자료들을 찾아 검토해 보았다. 분석 결과 1) HBI가 안식교회 계통의 의료기관이었고, 2) 『신한민보』와 사망진단서 두 곳 모두에 장인환 의사 사망 병원이 최소 3층 높이의 건물로 나와 있는데 건물의 구조까지 나타나 있는 지적도에서 보면 위생병원(Sanitarium)은 1층 반인데 비해 HBI는 3층으로 나와 있었어, 『신한민보』기사에 장인환 의사 사망병원으로 나와 있는 "시내 안식교회 위생병원"은 당시 샌프란시스코에 살던 우리 교포들이 HBI를 일반적으로 부르던 명칭이었을 것이라 판단되고, 따라서 장인환 의사가 타개한 병원은 HBI 쪽이라는 결론을 내렸다. In the present article there was made a second attempt to identify the hospital in San Francisco, where patriot In-Whan Chang died on May 22nd, 1930. The patriot Chang assassinated, on March 23rd, 1908, Durhan White Stevens, a pro-Japanese American, who, as the adviser assigned by the Japanese Government to the Foreign Ministry of the Korean Government, had worked to prepare for the then Japan`s imperialistic design to annex Korea. Chang`s assassination of Stevens was the first of Korean people`s armed resistance movements abroad to the then Japan`s imperialistic design to control Korea, preceding one year and seven months Jung-Gun An`s assassination in Harbin, Manchuria, of Hirobumi Ito, the mastermind of Japan`s plan to colonize Korea. In an earlier article published three years ago, tracing Chang`s footsteps in San Francisco areas, the co-authors of the present article looked for "the 7th Day Adventist Church`s Sanitarium in SF" where, a local Korean newspaper "Shin-Han-Min-Po" reported, Chang died. Then one of the co-authors unearthed from the California State archives an official vital record that showed the hospital Chang died was Health Betterment Institute (HBI). Cross-examination among relevant materials including newspaper and magazine articles and fire-insurance maps showing building structures led the co-authors to conclude that HBI was the hospital where Chang died.

        Electrochemical Oscillations in the HCHO Oxidation on a Pt Electrode

        We first report that current oscillations with in-situ mass oscillations in the electrocatalytic oxidation of formaldehyde were observed on a Pt electrode. In the linear sweep voltammogram, quantitative analysis of in-situ mass change on the Pt surface by electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance gave a clue that CO migllt be the reaction intermediate species, which covered the active area of Pt surface. It results in the lowest current and the highest mass in a period of oscillations. On the other hand, the lowest value of mass arises from the recover of Pt vacant site due to the CO₂evolution. The periodicity of current oscillations is in excellent agreement with the mass oscillations.

        해상 실험에 의한 침하식 해삼 양성 기구의생물학적 성능 평가

        The sea cucumber, Apostichopus japonicus, is becoming an important aquaculture species in China, Japan and Korea. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the biological performance of a tubular type of subsurface cage for sea cucumber grow-out by in-situ tests. The cage structure was constructed of PP (polypropylene) frames and PP tubes (Φ130 mm×24 pieces). A set of tests were conducted at a depth of 15 m near Seosaeng, Ulsan, Korea for 295 days (23 July, 2012 to 13 May, 2013). A total of 155 sea cucumbers were used and fed a mixed diet containing mud, mineral, wheat, fish meal, etc (3% of their body weight). At the end of the experiments, sea cucumber showed a higher survival rate in feed shelter (77.14%) rather than no feed shelter (64.71%). The specific growth rate (SGR) of sea cucumbers in feed condition (0.04% day-1) was higher than that of no feed culture animals (-0.49% day-1) during total experimental periods. The result was able to find a no significance difference in survival rate but a significance difference in SGR under feed and no feed treatments.

      • ERK1/2-Mediated Schwann Cell Proliferation in the Regenerating Sciatic Nerve by Treadmill Training

        <P>Proliferation of Schwann cells in the injured peripheral nerve supports axonal regeneration, and physical training in experimental animals has been shown to promote nerve regeneration. Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 (ERK1/2) activity can mediate neuronal responses to lesion signals, but its role in non-neuronal cells in the injured area is largely unknown. Here we report that treadmill training (TMT) facilitates axonal regeneration via the upregulation of phospho-ERK1/2 protein levels in Schwann cells in the injured sciatic nerve. Low-intensity, but not high-intensity, TMT increased neurite outgrowth of dorsal root ganglion (DRG) sensory neurons and potentiated Schwann cell proliferation. TMT elevated levels of GAP-43 mRNA and protein, and phospho-ERK1/2 protein in the injured sciatic nerves. TMT also enhanced phospho-c-Jun protein levels in the injured nerve. In-vivo administration of the ERK1/2 inhibitor PD98059 eliminated phospho-c-Jun, suggesting ERK1/2 phosphorylation of the c-Jun protein. PD98059 treatment decreased levels of BrdU-labeled proliferating Schwann cells in the distal portion of the injured nerve, and delayed the axonal regrowth that was promoted by TMT. The present data suggest that increased ERK1/2 activity in Schwann cells may play an important role in TMT-mediated enhancement of axonal regeneration in the injured peripheral nerve.</P>

        중재 시술용 기능성 기관-기관지 팬텀의 유용성

        중재 시술용 기능성 기관-기관지 팬텀을 제작하고, 스텐트 삽입술을 시행하여 그 유용성을 평가하고자 한다. 중재 시술용 기능성 기관-기관지 팬텀은 실리콘으로 제작하였으며, 기관을 통하여 스텐트 삽입술이 가능하도록 삽입구를 제작하였다. 팬텀은 지점토를 이용하여 인체와 동일한 형태로 기관, 기관지 분지부와 양쪽 상부 기관지를 재현하였고, 사각형의 틀에 지점토를 고정시킨 후 액상의 실리콘을 채워 건조시킨 후 지점토를 제거하여 제작하였다. 인체, 동물, 팬텀에서 기관지스텐트 삽입 후 흉부 촬영 필름의 농도와 기관지 분지부의 각도를 측정하여 비교하였다. 기관지스텐트는 세선의 교차가 다른 2가지(X-type, Y-type) 형태를 삽입하였으며, 스텐트 삽입술 후 기관 상부, 기관 분지부, 좌기관지, 우기관지, 스텐트 삽입부의 필름농도를 측정하였다. 필름농도는 기관 상부의 경우, 인체 0.76(±0.011), 동물 0.97(±0.015), 팬텀 0.45(±0.016)이었고, 기관 분지부의 경우는 인체 0.51(±0.006), 동물 0.65(±0.005), 팬텀 0.65(±0.OO8)이었고, 우기관지의 경우는 인체 0.14(±0.OO8), 동물 0.59(±0.014), 팬텀 0.04(±0.007)이었고, 좌기관지의 경우는 인체 0.54(±0.004), 동물 0.54(±O.008)로 팬텀 0.08(±0.OO8)이었고, 스텐트 삽입부의 경우는 인체 0.54(±0.004), 동물 0.59(±0.011), 팬텀 0.04(±0.007)이었다. 기관 분지부가 이루는 각도는 인체의 좌기관지에서 42.6(±2.07)˚, 우기관지에시 32.8(±2.77)˚이었으며, 동물에서 각각 43.4(±2.40)˚, 34.6(±1.94)˚, 팬텀에서 각각 35(±2.00)˚, 50.2(±1.30)˚이었다. 본 연구팀이 제작한 기관-기관지 팬텀은 기관지 스텐트 삽입술의 재현이 가능하여 중재시술의 술기연습용이나 스텐트를 평가하기 위한 체외실험에 사용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다. To evaluate usefulness of a functional tracheobronchial phantom for interventional procedure. The functional phantom was made as a actual size with human normal anatomy used silicone and a paper clay mold. A tracheobronchial-shape clay mold was placed inside a square box and liquid silicone was poured. After the silicone was formed, the clay was removed. We measured film density and tracheobronchial angle at the human, animal and phantom, respectively. The film density of trachea part were O.76(±O.O11) in human, O.97(±O.015) in animal, O.45(±O.O16) in phantom. The tracheobronchial bifurcation part measured O.51(±O.OO6) in human, O.65(±O.OO5) in animal, O.65(±O.008) in phantom. The right bronchus part measured O.14(±0.008) in human, O.59(±0.014) in animal and O.O4(±O.OO7) in phantom. The left bronchus were O.54(±O.004) in human, O.54 (±0.008) in animal and O.08(±0.008) in phantom. At the stent part were O.54(±O.004) in human, O.59(±0.011) in animal and O.04(±0.007) in phantom, respectively. The tracheobronchial angle of the left bronchus site were 42.6(± 2.07)˚ in human, 43.4(±2.4O)˚ in animal and 35(±2.00)˚ in phantom, respectively. The right bronchus site were 32.8(±2.77)˚ in human, 34.6(±1.94)˚ in animal and 50.2(±1.30)˚ in phantom, respectively. The phantom was useful for in-vitro testing of tracheobronchial interventional procedure, since it was easy to reproduce.

        Enhanced activation of NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 attenuates spontaneous hypertension by improvement of endothelial nitric oxide synthase coupling via tumor suppressor kinase liver kinase B1/adenosine 5&vprime;-monophosphate-activated protein kina

        AIMS:: Guanosine 5&vprime;-triphosphate cyclohydrolase-1 (GTPCH-1) is a rate-limiting enzyme in de-novo synthesis of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4), an essential cofactor for endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) coupling. Adenosine 5&vprime;-monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is crucial for GTPCH-1 preservation, and tumor suppressor kinase liver kinase B1 (LKB1), an upstream kinase of AMPK, is activated by NAD-dependent class III histone deacetylase sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)-mediated deacetylation. &bgr;-Lapachone has been shown to increase cellular NAD/NADH ratio via NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1) activation. In this study, we have evaluated whether &bgr;-lapachone-induced NQO1 activation modulates blood pressure (BP) through preservation of GTPCH-1 in a hypertensive animal model. METHODS AND RESULTS:: Spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs), primary aortic endothelial cells, and endothelial cell line were used to investigate the hypotensive effect of &bgr;-lapachone and its action mechanism. &bgr;-Lapachone treatment dramatically lowered BP and vascular tension in SHRs and induced eNOS activation in endothelial cells. Consistent with these effects, &bgr;-lapachone treatment also elevated levels of both aortic cGMP and plasma nitric oxide in SHRs. Meanwhile, &bgr;-lapachone-treated SHRs showed significantly increased levels of aortic NAD, LKB1 deacetylation, and AMPK Thr phosphorylation followed by increased GTPCH-1 and tetrahydrobiopterin/dihydrobiopterin ratio. In-vitro study revealed that AMPK inhibition by overexpression of dominant-negative AMPK nearly abolished GTPCH-1 protein conservation. Enhanced LKB1 deacetylation and AMPK activation were also elicited by &bgr;-lapachone in endothelial cells. However, inhibition of LKB1 deacetylation by blocking of NQO1 or SIRT1 blunted AMPK activation by &bgr;-lapachone. CONCLUSION:: This is the first study demonstrating that eNOS coupling can be regulated by NQO1 activation via LKB1/AMPK/GTPCH-1 modulation, which is possibly correlated with relieving hypertension. These findings provide strong evidence to suggest that NQO1 might be a new therapeutic target for hypertension.

        Helicobacter pylori cagE 유전자 다형성이 위상피세포주에서 Interleukin-8 유도능에 미치는 영향

        Helicobacter pylori infection is highly prevalent, as high as 2/3 of whole population infected, in Korea. H. pylori infection initiates inflammation by induction of interleukin-8 through type IV secretion of CagA. It was recently suggested that induction failure of IL-8 is not associated with defect in cag PAI but associated with cagE locus diversity. This study was designed to investigate ability of 11-8 in-duction according to sequence variation within the cagE gene, cagA TP motifs and vacA m-types in vitro study using AGS cell-line, and to evaluate its association with different clinical outcome. Seventy-four H. pylori stains were isolated from 23 patients with gastric cancer (Ca), 24 subjects with gastritis (G) and 27 patients with duodenal ulcer (Du) in Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Seoul, Korea. cagE gene diversity was confirmed by the PCR-RFLP methods with MboI/NlaIII and tyrosine phosphate motifs (TPMs) of cagA was determined TPM-A and C by using DdeI/Tsp5091 restriction enzyme and TPM-B was determend by Real time PCR the method of Owen et al. and IL-8 was measured by ELISA assay. IL-8 activity was positively detected in 59 among 74 strains $(79.7\%)$. IL-8 secretion was significantly increased in MboI A and MboI B type compared to MboI C type and in MboI/NlaIII A-C and B-C type than C-C type. 1L-8 activity was not associated with either the number or composition of cagA tyrosine phosphorylation motifs and vacA m-type. There was no significant difference in IL-8 activity among patient groups. cagE gene diversity is thought to be mainly associated with the induction of IL-8 in H. pylori infection. 한국에서 분리한 Helicobacter pylori 균주가 위암 세포주에서 IL-8를 유도하는 유도능을 관찰하고자 하였으며, 특히 4형 분비구조의 주요 구성체인 cagE 유전자의 다형성에 따라 IL-8 유도능의 차이 및 각 질환에서 분리한 균주에서의 차이가 있는지 검토하고자 하였다. 강남성모병원 내시경검사를 받은 환자들 중 H. pylori 감염 양성으로 확인된 위암 23명 $(31.0\%)$, 위염 24명$(32.6\%)$, 십이지장궤양27명$(36.4\%)$ 총 74명을 대상으로 하여 H. pylori를 분리한 후 PCR-RFLP방법을 이용하여 cagE 다형성을 확인하였으며, PCR 및 Real-time PCR을 이용하여 ragA TPMs를 결정하였다, 또한 분리된 균주를 위암세포주에 감염시켜 상등액을 취하여 ELISA방법으로 IL-8을 정량화 하였다. 전체 74개의 분리 균주 중 59개의 균주$(79.7\%)$에서 IL-8 유도능이 있는 것으로 확인되었으며, cagE 다형성 중에서 가장 높은 빈도로 관찰되는 형태는 MboI/NlaIII B-C, A-C 및 C-C 타입 이었으며, 이중 A-C와 B-C 형태가 C-C 형태에 비해 유의적으로 높은 IL-8 유도능을 나타냈다. 그러나 cagA TPMs의 분류 및 vacA m-아형 분류와 IL-8 유도능과는 연관성이 없었다. 비록 본 연구에서 cagE 다형성과 IL-8 유도능과 아주 밀접한 연관성이 나타나지는 않았지만 vacA m-아형이나 cagA TPMs 보다는 cagE 다형성이 IL-8 유도능과 연관성이 클 것으로 생각된다.

        The study is to find out a way of improving educational curriculum and space decission of its facilities in order to efficiently operate a model curriculum of pilot college management. Graduate credits reguire 140 points in the model educational curriculum. These points are consisted of 56 credits for the general arts and science, 57 credits for the major subjects, and 27 credits for the free optional subjects. Architecture design is composed of major subject and other subjects(structure, plan, envinorment and technical field subject, etc) The main facilities of architectural department are to make a module for setting up the fundamental principle of minimum requirement space decision such as major educational facilities, professor study facilities and supporting facilities of college subject.
