Vol.24 No.-
G·I, P·I, S·I의 통합 브랜드 매뉴얼을 만든 것에 의의가 있다

OMiYakSung theory consists of various herbs that contain at least one or more of the five flavors. This theory has been used to prevent human diseases and enhance the immune system. The main objective of the present study was to investigate efficacy differences and changes in ingredients of blended and single herb extracts based on OMiYakSung theory. We selected three herbs Coptis japonica Makino, Cimicifuga heracleifolia Komarov, and white Poria cocos and assessed their physiological effect. As results, the blended extracts showed excellent cell migration effect at 400 ug/mL concentration, compared to the single extract. In addition, the blended extracts enhanced immune function by increasing the activity of dendritic cells and showed the highest antioxidant activity by DPPH assay and HPLC-ABTS assay. In this study, we developed a new materials that can be applicable to cosmetics and pharmaceuticals field by applying oriental medicine theory.

<P><B>Purpose</B></P><P>Minimal (< 10 mm thick) pleural effusion (PE) may represent an early phase of malignant PE, but its clinical relevance has rarely been studied. Therefore, we examined the proportion of minimal PE in patients with non–small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its impact on survival. We also considered possible accumulation mechanisms in our data set.</P><P><B>Patients and Methods</B></P><P>On the basis of PE status from chest computed tomography scans at diagnosis, 2,061 patients were classified into three groups: no PE, minimal PE, and malignant PE. Twenty-one variables associated with four factors—patient, stage migration, tumor, and treatment—were investigated for correlation with survival.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>Minimal PE presented in 272 patients (13.2%). Of 2,061 patients, the proportion of each stage was the following: 5.2% stage I, 10.9% stage II, 13.2% stage IIIA, 23.8% stage IIIB, and 13.9% stage IV. Minimal PE correlated significantly with shorter survival time than did no PE (median survival time, 7.7 <I>v</I> 17.7 months; log-rank <I>P</I> < .001), even after full adjustment with all variables (adjusted hazard ratio, 1.40; 95% CI, 1.21 to 1.62). Prognostic impact of minimal PE was higher in early versus advanced stages (<I>P</I>interaction = .001). In 237 patients (87.8%) with minimal PE, pleural invasion or attachment as a direct mechanism was observed, and it was an independent factor predicting worse survival (<I>P</I> = .03).</P><P><B>Conclusion</B></P><P>Minimal PE is a commonly encountered clinical concern in staging NSCLCs. Its presence is an important prognostic factor of worse survival, especially in early-stage disease.</P>
Transient Hypoglycemia-induced Hemiparesis Mimicking Stroke -A Case Report-
Seong Hwa Lee,Ji Ho Ryu,Yong In Kim,Maeng Real Park,Mun Ki Min,Sun Min Hwang 2011 Acute and Critical Care Vol.26 No.3
Hypoglycemia is caused by poor oral intake, excessive exercise, alcohol abuse and inaccurate use of a hypoglycemic agent or insulin in patients that have history of diabetes mellitus (DM), especially in the elderly. Severe hypoglycemia has a variety of different symptoms or signs from focal neurologic deficits to severe coma, or death. It can be difficult to differentiate hypoglycemia-induced symptoms or signs, and stroke or cardiovascular disease in acute setting. Transient hypoglycemic hemiparesis is an infrequent case in the emergency department (ED), which is frequently misdiagnosed for stroke. When patients with decreased mental status or hemiparesis are admitted to the ED, a routine blood sugar test is essential. Hypoglycemic hemiparesis if unrecognized can result in permanent neurological damage. Therefore, it is important to detect hypoglycemia early and treat it appropriately.

The purpose of this study was to investigate removable denture satisfaction related to general, functional and esthetic satisfaction factors among dental patients in the Department of Prosthodontics in Kyungpook National University Hospital. 70 patients who consented with this survey were selected and examined their oral status. Treatment satisfaction was estimated by means of self-developed questionnaires, filled out by face-to-face interview. Collected data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA and general linear model procedure using statistical data analysis software SAS 6.12. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Women(51.5%), aged group between 60 and 69 years old(35.7% : mean age 58.8), low educated group(48,69%) and maxillary partial denture group(38.6%) were favorite demographic characteristics. 2. They were generally satisfied with their treatments(3.24±0.65). Among the subscale factors, esthetic satisfaction factor was the highest(3.52±0.57), general satisfaction factor(3.27±0.79) and functional satisfaction factor(3.07±0.74), respectively. 3. The major demographic characteristics which affected treatment satisfaction were kinds of removable denture, income and appointed treatment as a result of analysis using general linear model.
