        Roles of RpoS in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis stress survival, motility, biofilm formation and type VI secretion system expression

        RpoS (σS), the stationary phase/stress σ factor, controls the expression of a large number of genes involved in cellular responses to a variety of stresses. However, the role of RpoS appears to differ in different bacteria. While RpoS is an important regulator of flagellum biosynthesis, it is associated with biofilm development in Edwardsiella tarda. Biofilms are dense communities formed by bacteria and are important for microbe survival under unfavorable conditions. The type VI secretion system (T6SS) discovered recently is reportedly associated with several phenotypes, ranging from biofilm formation to stress sensing. For example, Vibrio anguillarum T6SS was proposed to serve as a sensor for extracytoplasmic signals and modulates RpoS expression and stress response. In this study, we investigated the physiological roles of RpoS in Yersinia pseudotuberculosis, including bacterial survival under stress conditions, flagella formation, biofilm development and T6SS expression. We found that RpoS is important in resistance to multiple stressors–including H2O2, acid, osmotic and heat shock–in Y. pseudotuberculosis. In addition, our study showed that RpoS not only modulates the expression of T6SS but also regulates flagellum formation by positively controlling the flagellar master regulatory gene flhDC, and affects the formation of biofilm on Caenorhabditis elegans by regulating the synthesis of exopolysaccharides. Taken together, these results show that RpoS plays a central role in cell fitness under several adverse conditions in Y. pseudotuberculosis.

        This study explores the application methods of combining Minnan lion culture with lacquer art from a lacquer art creation research perspective under the "14th Five Year Plan" cultural industry development plan. By examining the lion dance and lacquer art cultures with Minnan characteristics, this study explores how to solve the neglect of traditional culture. It promotes Minnan lion and lacquer art cultures to create a unique brand in Minnan. Objective: To use modern methods to improve people's aesthetics, enhance local cultural soft power, improve economic development, attract more people to enter the Minnan region, promote Minnan Lion Culture and lacquer art industry, improve the level of innovation in Minnan Lion Culture, and to ring positive impacts to the inheritance and promotion of lion culture and lacquer art in Minnan. Methods: Using literature review and practical methods combined with modern lacquer art creation theory for analysis. Summarize the lacquer art creation under the cultural elements of Minnan Dragon and Lion regarding their expression, humanistic value, and connotation, the artistic characteristics and market status of lacquer art, and the feasibility and necessity of combining the two. Results: Summarized the cultural origin and basic knowledge of Minnan lion culture and lacquer painting and explored the path of integrating Minnan lion culture and lacquer art. Conclusion: Analyzed the research on Minnan lion culture and lacquer art creation and integrated Minnan lion culture and lacquer art creation to complete the "Min Lion" lacquer painting creation.

        Microwave-Assisted Controllable Synthesis of Nickel Nanoparticles Embedded in Mesoporous Silica for Catalytic Reduction of 4-Nitrophenol

        Nickel nanoparticles embedded in mesoporous silica (Ni/SiO2) were successfully synthesized by microwave-assisted in situ self-assembly method using colloidal silica, urea and nickel nitrate as precursors and glucose as carbon template, which resulted in mesoporous structure of silica through removal of template. Ni nanoparticles were uniformly well-dispersed within mesoporous silica, which were 3.5–4.0nm in diameter and had a very narrow particle size distribution. In addition, particle size of Ni nanoparticles can be controllably adjusted by microwave power. As prepared Ni/SiO2 catalyst exhibited better catalytic activity for reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) to 4-aminophenol (4-AP) than Ni/SiO2-IM catalyst, which was mainly attributed to confinement effect of mesoporous silica support. This simple and versatile method can also be extended to cover many kinds of other supported catalysts for broad applications in many other catalytic reactions in the future.

        Prognostic significance of lymphovascular space invasion in patients with endometrioid endometrial cancer: a retrospective study from a single center

        Objective: This study aims to analyze factors associated with lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI) and evaluate the prognostic significance of LVSI in Chinese endometrioid endometrial cancer (EEC) patients. Methods: Five-hundred eighty-four EEC patients undergoing surgery in our center from 2006 to 2016 were selected for analysis. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression were used to examine relevant factors of LVSI. To evaluate the prognostic role of LVSI, survival analyses were conducted. In survival analyses, both multivariate Cox regression and propensity score matching were used to control the confounders. Results: The incidence of LVSI was 12.16% (71/584). Diabetes history (p=0.021), lymph node metastasis (p=0.005), deep myometrial invasion (p<0.001) and negative PR expression (p=0.007) were independently associated with LVSI. Both Kaplan-Meier method and univariate Cox regressions showed LVSI negative and positive cases had similar tumor-specific survival (TSS) and disease-free survival (DFS). After adjusting for the influence of adjuvant therapy and other clinicopathological factors with multivariate Cox regressions, LVSI still could not bring additional survival risk to the patients (p=0.280 and p=0.650 for TSS and DFS, respectively). This result was verified by Kaplan-Meier survival analyses after propensity score matching (p=0.234 and p=0.765 for TSS and DFS, respectively). Conclusion: LVSI does not significantly compromise the survival outcome of Chinese EEC patients.

        Computational fluid dynamics simulations of interphase heat transfer in a bubbling fluidized bed

        Numerical simulations based on the Eulerian-Eulerian approach have been performed in the study of interphaseheat transfer in a gas solid fluidized bed. The kinetic theory of granular flow (KTGF) has been used to describethe solid phase rheology. An assessment of drag models in the prediction of heat transfer coefficients shows that nomajor difference is observed in the choice of the drag model used. Fluctuations of the interphase heat transfer coefficienthave been found to be closely related to the bubble motion in the bed. Effects of the wall boundary condition, inletgas velocity, initial bed height and particle size on the predicted heat transfer coefficient have also been investigated. Typical temperature profiles in the bed show that thermal saturation is attained instantaneously close to the gas distributor. Simulated results of the coefficients are in fair agreement with those reported in literature.

        Novel flexible HVDC transmission converter station topology with DC fault blocking capability

        The conventional half-bridge submodule (HBSM)-based multilevel modular converter (MMC) cannot block DC faults. To solve this problem, a novel flexible overhead-line high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission converter station topology is proposed in this study, which provides DC fault blocking capability. By adding blocking submodules (SMs) onto the positive and negative DC buses of a conventional HBSM converter station, a rapid fault current blocking can be achieved in the case of a DC bus short circuit. The DC fault blocking principle of the proposed topology and the rapid fault blocking capability of the blocking SM are analyzed. The quantity of required major components is also calculated. In addition, the IGBT, the system loss and the control complexity quantities are comprehensively compared with those of existing topologies. The validity of the proposed topology is demonstrated based on simulation and experimental studies.

        Salt-Free and Alkali-Free Fixing Method of Wool Fabric Dyeing in Non-Aqueous Media Dyeing System

        Non-aqueous media dyeing is an important water-saving and salt-free dyeing technology in the textile dyeing industry. In thisinvestigation, a salt-free and alkaline-free dyeing technology was developed for wool fabrics. After padding with reactivedye solution, wool fabric was fixed in a non-aqueous medium at 90 °C for 90 s. After washing, the fixation of reactive dyecan achieve more than 98% in a salt-free and alkali-free dyeing environment. The effect of fixing method on the physicalproperties of wool fabrics was analyzed by TGA, DSC, and XRD. Compared with steam and cold batch fixing method, thefixing process in non-aqueous medium has little effect on the mechanical properties of wool fabrics. The final decompositiontemperature of wool fabric dyed with non-aqueous medium was about 46 °C, which was higher than that of the fabric samplesdyed by other methods. Moreover, the crystallinity of wool fiber was increased after non-aqueous fixation process. And nonaqueousmedium had no influence on the surface morphology of wool fabrics. For non-aqueous medium and steaming fixingmethods, there were only hydrolyzed dyes, but some hetero-bifunctional dyes were detected in the cold batching system,indicating that reactive dyes could effectively react with wool fibers in non-aqueous medium and steaming fixing system.

        Bio-based Epoxy Thermoset Containing Stilbene Structure with Ultrahigh T<SUB>g</SUB> and Excellent Flame Retardancy

        Bio-based epoxy resins with an ultrahigh glass transition temperature (Tg) and excellent flame retardancy are critical for developing sustainable polymers. Herein, a novel trifunctional epoxy monomer triglycidyl ether of resveratrol (TGER) was synthesized from renewable resveratrol. The chemical structure of TGER was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), ¹H, and <SUP>13</SUP>C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy which was then reacted with 4,4’-diaminodiphenylmethane (DDM) to form resin. The obtained resin was evaluated in terms of flame retardance and thermal properties. The resultant TGER-DDM 240 resin shows excellent flame-retardant properties, presenting a residual char of 42.5% at 800 ℃, limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 31.2%, and flammability rating of V-0 in UL94 test. Moreover, the resin possesses an ultrahigh Tg at 294 ℃. This work provides a facile method for preparing high-performance flame-retardant epoxy resin from a renewable resource.

        Phenolic acids in Panax ginseng inhibit melanin production through bidirectional regulation of melanin synthase transcription via different signaling pathways

        Background: Our previous investigation indicated that the preparation of Panax ginseng Meyer(P. ginseng) inhibited melanogenesis. It comprised salicylic acid (SA), protocatechuic acid (PA), p-coumaricacid (p-CA), vanillic acid (VA), and caffeic acid (CA). In this investigation, the regulatory effects ofP. ginseng phenolic acid monomers on melanin production were assessed. Methods: In vitro and in vivo impact of phenolic acid monomers were assessed. Results: SA, PA, p-CA and VA inhibited tyrosinase (TYR) to reduce melanin production, whereas CA hadthe opposite effects. SA, PA, p-CA and VA significantly downregulated the melanocortin 1 receptor(MC1R), cycle AMP (cAMP), protein kinase A (PKA), cycle AMP-response element-binding protein (CREB),microphthalmia-associated transcription factor (MITF) pathway, reducing mRNA and protein levels ofTYR, tyrosinase-related protein 1 (TYRP1), and TYRP2. Moreover, CA treatment enhanced the cAMP, PKA,and CREB pathways to promote MITF mRNA level and phosphorylation. It also alleviated MITF proteinlevel in a-MSH-stimulated B16F10 cells, comparable to untreated B16F10, increasing the expression ofphosphorylation glycogen synthase kinase 3b (p-GSK3b), b-catenin, p-ERK/ERK, and p-p38/p38. Furthermore, the GSK3b inhibitor promoted p-GSK3b and p-MITF expression, as observed in CA-treatedcells. Moreover, p38 and ERK inhibitors inhibited CA-stimulated p-p38/p38, p-ERK/ERK, and p-MITFincrease, which had negative binding energies with MC1R, as depicted by molecular docking. Conclusion: P. ginseng roots' phenolic acid monomers can safely inhibit melanin production by bidirectionallyregulating melanin synthase transcription. Furthermore, they reduced MITF expression viaMC1R/cAMP/PKA signaling pathway and enhanced MITF post-translational modification via Wnt/mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway.
