        Jeju-do highly relies on outside sources of energy because of its geographical situation. Recently, it has been necessary to enhance its stable energy sources there by protecting it from rising oil prices and preventing further global warming and the resulting serious environmental disruptions caused by the use of fossil fuels. Therefore, in this study, We investigate at the reserves and the available capacity of other energy sources, such as solar, wind, biomass, wastes and small hydro energy. The results show that the available capacity of solar energy is 123,525 TOE/year, wind energy is 1,871,748 TOE/year, and biomass energy is 30,127 TOE/year. Waste energy has an available capacity of 6,629 TOE/year and small hydro energy is estimated at 2,617 TOE/year. The results of the available capacity of clean energy sources show that it is likely double the annual energy consumption of Jeju. Solar energy and wind energy are the greatest potential energy sources, compared to other energy sources. Furthermore, wind energy is available in the highest quantity.

      • 중원지역의 설화를 동화화하기 위한 연구 및 개발

        This study describes the research and development of fairy tales from the folk tales in Joung-Won area. The need for this problem was assessed through the special training course of fairy tale writing sponsored by Cho-Bang. The first step was the study of the suitable definition and types of fairy tales. Assuming that the problem in defining the field of folk tales is the lack of common agreement in the labels, definitions and standard classification models of folk tales, literature related to these areas were reviewed. The application of this research and development will be the fairy tale writing. The next step was therefore to select the folk tales suitables to the fairy tale writing and to explore the Joong-Won area related to these stories. By this study we found that Joon-Won area's folk tales have few supernatural, fantastic elements which are the common characteristics of fairy tales. Considering the lack of these characteristics, we selected and wrote the story of "General Shin Lip", "the funny stories", "the story of the Castle Mago"(from the Nam mountain folk tales), "princess Ari and prince Koko"(from the folk tales of Kye-Myung mountain), etc... We found the development of the fairy tales a meaningful and rewarding work and experience. Our purpose to gain the basic knowledge in the development of this field has been met. But these fairy tales need to be visualized to be published. We should prepare for the implementation of practical application of this study and development: contact with a higher administrator in Joong Won area, discussion on the support possibility, visual production, addition of necessary materials, etc... Only the surface has been touched in this study. But the authors hope that in the near future, we will be able to create the new cultural work needed in the Joon-Won area.

        고정밀 연삭기용 주축시스템 설계

        Any one of the high precision spindle systems and guide way systems, the high stiffness of structure, the error compensation during assembly, high accuracy control system is inevitable technology for development of high precision machine tools. Especially, among these, design of spindle system is one of the most important technologies leading high precision of machine tool and high quality of manufactured products. A high speed and high precision spindle system which will be used for final machining of ferrule, is designed considering the effect of heat, cutting torque, cutting force, and work-piece materials. The detailed design and analysis process are presented.

        Hearing impairement in varying degrees constitutes one of the most common disabilites affecting school aged children. Eight out of every 1,000 students under the age of twenty have significant hearing loss. Hearing disabilities range from slight to total loss of sound perception. Statistics indicate that only one out of every ten hearing impaired children will become deaf. Most motor activities can be included students may possess low levels of static and/ or dynamic balance, but the greatest majority possess normal motor and physical capabilities. All the hearing impaired youngsters should be properly assessed and given the identical testing batteries as normal children. Hearing impaired students have, essentialy, a communication handicap and suffer from inability to understand verbal instructions. All physical educators should be able to use minimal finger spelling and signing for hearing impaired students.

        증편의 저장 중 조직 특성 변화

        This study was carried out to investigate the storage conditions and methods required for commercializaion of Jeung-Pyon. The storage characteristics of Jeung-Pyon were examined with Universal Testing Machine (UTM. Instron model 1000) for textural properties during storage of tinder the conditions such as sealing, nonsealing, and temperatures. The differences in storage characteristics on the different varieties and years of rices were not shown. When the Jeung-Pyon was lost it's quality as a commercial product, the measured value of UTM was increased as hardness 0.74㎏ to 1.0㎏, gumminess 0.23㎏ to 0.59㎏, chewiness 6㎏.mm to 18㎏.mm, but decreased in adhesiveness 0.65㎏.mm to 0.40㎏.mm, cohesiveness 0.61 to 0.34, springiness 41㎜ to 32㎜. The nonsealed Jeung-Pyon was lost it's quality for storing at room temperature because of the case-hardening after 2 days. In the case of sealed Jeung-Pyon, the case-hardening phenomena by the evaporation of moisture was not occured, therefore it was a significant factor for an extension in sealed Jeung-Pyon. The shelf-life of sealed Jeung-Pyon was 20 days and 5 days respectively during storage at -20℃ and 20℃ The sealed Jeung-Pyon stored at 5℃ was lost it's quality, in consideration of cold chain this temperature was suitable for retrogradation of starch. The Jeung-Pyon sealed with air and mosture proof packaging material stored at the accelerated condition as 92% R.H. and 35℃ lost it's quality within two or three days.

      • 동종 조혈모세포이식 후 발생한 크립토콕쿠스 척추염 1예

        Skeletal cryptococcosis is an uncommon infection. Cryptococcus is a common cause of meningitis and infects 7∼10% of patients with AIDS. As well as AIDS, the infection may be seen in association with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis and diabetes, also in patients on steroid medication. But there is no case report of skeletal cryptococcosis following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. A 40-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of low back pain. She had chronic myelogenous leukemia for 2 years and underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation 8 months ago. She have been treated with steroid and cyclosporine orally because of chronic graft versus host disease. On examination she was afebrile and had posterior lower lumbar tenderness. But, she had no reduced strength of low extremities. Open biopsy was underwent. Histology demonstrated budding, round-to-oval, refractile yeast-like organisms within debris. The results of a lumbar puncture were unremarkable and cerebrospinal fluid culture failed to grow bacteria and yeast. The patient was treated with amphotericin B (1 gram) and AmBisome□ (2.8 gram) over 6 weeks. Three months after cessation of therapy, the patient was doing well.(Korean J Infect Dis 33:298∼301, 2001)

        Lidocaine, Thrombin, Epinephrine 의 항균효과

        목적 : 기관지내시경 검사에서 흔히 사용되는 국소마취제인 lidocaine과 내시경시 지혈목적으로 사용되는 thrombin과 epinephrine이 각종 균주에 미치는 항균효과에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 재료 및 방법 : 균주는 가톨릭대학교 성모병원에서 2004년 3월부터 2004년 9월까지 임상검체 에서 동정된 S. aureus, S. pneumoniae, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa 각각 42, 42, 42, 43주를 대상으로 하였다. Lidocaine, thrombin, epinephrine 감수성 검사는 National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS, 2002)의 기준에 따랐다. 결과 : Lidocaine은 S. aureus, S. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa에서 MIC_(50), MIC_(90) 모두 20,000 ㎍/mL 이었다. K. pneumoniae는 각각 10,000 ㎍/mL이었다. Thrombin은 S. aureus와 P. aeruginosa에서 MIC50 500 lU/mL 과 MIC_(90) 500 IU/mL 이상이었고, K. pneumoniae에서는 MIC_(50)과 MIC_(90)이 모두 500 lU/mL이상이었으나 S. pneumoniae에서는 MIC_(50)과 MIC_(90)은 125 IU/mL이었다. Epinephrine은 K. pneumoniae, S. pneumoniae에 대한 MIC_(50), MIC_(90)가 모두 >500 ㎍/mL이었고, S. aureus와 P. aeruginosa에 대한 MIC_(50), MIC_(90)가 모두 500 ㎍/mL이었다. 결론 : 기관지 내시경 검사에서 흔히 쓰이는 lidocaine, thrombin, epinephrine 등의 약제들이 호흡기 질환의 흔한 병원균인 S. aureus, S. pneumoniae, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa 균주들에 대해 항균 효과가 있을 수 있어 세균배양검사에 영향을 미칠 수 있겠다. Background : We performed this stody to find out about antimicrobial effect of lidocaine which is commonly used local anesthetic, and thrombin and epinephrine used for hemostasis during bronchoscopic procedures. Materials and Methods : The microorganisms that were cultured from specimens obtained during bronchoscopy were Staphylococcus aureus (n=42), Streptococcus pneumoniae (n=42), Klebsiella pneumoniae (n=42), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (n=43) collected from St. Mary's Hospital, from March to Sep 2004 were used for susceptibity testing. Susceptibility to lidocaine, thrombin, and epinephrine were tested according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards. Result : MIC_(50) and MIC_(90) of lidocaine for S. aureus, S. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa were all 20,000 ㎍/mL and that for K. pneumoniae were 10,000 ㎍/mL. MIC_(50) and MIC_(90) of thrombin for both S. aureus and P. aeruginosa was 500 IU/mL and above 500 IU/mL, respectively; that for K. pneumoniae were all above 500 IU/mL and for S. pneumoniae they were 125 IU/mL, MIC_(50) and MIC_(90) of epinephrine for K. pneumoniae and S. pneumoniae were above 500 ㎍/mL; that for S. aureus and P. aeruginosa were 500 ㎍/mL. Conclusion : We observed possible antimicrobial effect of lidocaine, thrombin, and epinephrine in vitro against pathogens such as S. aureus, S. pneumoniae, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, which are common respiratory microorganisms. The use of these agants could affect the result of bacterial culture.

        Stage-Specific Changes and Regulation of Endogenous Protein Phosphorylation in Allomyces macrogynus

        In the aquatic fungus Allomyces macrogynus the effects of $Ca^{2+}$ and cAMP on the intracellular signal transduction of zoospore germination were studied using in vitro protein phosphorylation assay system. An endogenously phosphorylated protein (p50) having molecular weight of 50 kDa on SDS-PAGE was found in soluble fractions of both zoospore and mycelium. In zoospore extract, the endogenous phosphorylation of p50 was weak without any effectors, but was enhanced by $Ca^{2+}$ and even more by cAMP. Phosphorylation of the same protein in mycelial extract was high only in the absence of cAMP. Irrespective of the presence of $Ca^{2+}$ and cAMP, its phosphorylation was antagonistically suppressed in assay of combined zoospore and mycelial extracts. These results suggest that p50 is interconvertible in phosphorylation/dephosphorylation as a novel protein involved in germination of A. macrogynus. The antagonistic effect of cAMP to the phosphorylation of p50s from different developmental stages may be important in the regulation of cellular differentiation.
