      • Carotenoids 식이와 알코올이 혈액학적 성분과 간조직에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구

조만희,김연선,이상한,우기민,장예진,김창세 순천향의학연구소 1999 Journal of Soonchunhyang Medical Science Vol.5 No.2

Alcohol is well known agent which can damage the human tissues such as liver via stimulating lipid peroxidation and storage, denaturation of macromolecules, and inhibiting protein metabolism. On the other hand, carotenoids in addition to vitamins A, C, E and lipoic acid, play important roles in protecting these oxidative damages as well as preventing the production of free radicals. This study was carried out to elucidate the precise effects of alcohol administration into rats on the antioxidative functions of dietary carotenoids and isolated β-carotene, and to find out any parameters to uncover more detailed biochemical mechanisms of these agents. For these purposes, two different approaches were performed: 1) examination of the changes in hematological parameters (e.g., total proteins, A/G ratio, ALT/AST et. al) and statistical correlations among inter- and intragroups, 2) examination of the histopathological changes by an electron microscope. The results were analyzed and summarized as following; (1) Carrot diet for one week caused a slight increase in albumin. A/G ratio and AST levels, and a slight decrease in ALT, ALP, BUN and uric acid levels. Two-week alcohol administration following carrot diet increased total proteins, albumin A/G ratio and BUN levels. However, both groups were shown to have little significant changes in cholesterol concentrations. (2) Cheese diet for one week caused a significant increase in total proteins, albumin, AST, ALP, uric acid and total cholesterol levels, and a significant decrease in A/G ratio and glucose concentrations. However, two-week β-carotene diet following cheese intake increased total proteins albumin, A/G ratio, BUN and total cholesterol levels, whereas AST, ALT, ALP and uric acid levels were decreased. (3) Alcohol administration for one week caused an increase in AST activities and a decrease in total proteins, albumin, ALT, ALP and BUN levels. A successive β-carotene diet following alcohol administration increased total proteins, albumin, ALT, ALP and BUN levels, whereas decreased AST and uric acid levels. However, there were not significant changes in A/G ratio, glucose and total cholesterol levels in both groups. (4) β-carotene diet for one week caused a slight increase in albumin, glucose, AST and uric acid levels, and a slight decrease in ALP and BUN levels. Two-weeks alcohol administration following β-carotene diet increased albumin, glucose, BUN and total cholesterol levels, whereas decreased AST, ALT, ALP and uric acid levels. (5) Although the pathological investigation on the liver did not reveal significant changes, cheese diet group (CH-BC/1-CH) was shown to have some lipid deposits. Some results were unexpected and different from typical hematological changes shown by other researchers. Nonetheless, these results strongly suggest that the liver damage or hepatism caused by alcohol intake affects many kinds of biochemical metabolisms, which results in significant changes in many hematological parameters. In addition, dietary carotenoid and isolated β-carotene were shown to have protective roles against the biochemical changes by alcohol intake.

Vol.36 No.2

This study was performed to provide preliminary data for the development of a useful instrument to measure the effect of sex education. The study was conducted with the voluntary participation of 155 college students enrolled in the course "Sexuality and Relationship" at Y university in Seoul. At the end of that course, they were asked to write freely about the change they had experienced on sexuality. All meaningful statements were elicited and classified into 7 categories; "Change of Knowledge", "Enlightenment", "Change of Attitude on Sexuality", "Buildup of Ability", "Buildup of. Identity", "Change of Emotion", "Change of Behavior:' There were significant changes in the areas of knowledge(28. 6%), enlightenment(27.4%), and attitudes(20.3%) about sexuality among these 7 categories. The Change of Knowledge category consists of 3 areas: "concretion of knowledge", "increase of information", and "correction of misunderstanding." In the category of Enlightenment, total 12 areas are included: "sex role", "erception of lack of knowledge", "importance of family", "life plan", "parent role", "value of life", "equality", "sexual autonomy", "importance of sexuality", "freedom of sexuality", "perception of sexual problem", and "meaning of love." The Attitude Change category consists of 8 areas. These are "being natural", "being progressive", "being sensitive", "being truthful", "being expressive", "being cautious", "being responsible", and "being confident". The category of Buildup of Ability includes 4 areas: "problem solving", "sex education", "relationship", and "communication". The category of Buildup of Identity includes "sexual identity", and "value of sexuality". The Emotional Change category includes 3 areas: "positive feeling", "negative feeling", and "breaking from negative feeling on sexuality". The Behavior Change category includes "sex-related behavioral change". In conclusion, up to now most researches on sex education effect measures only changes of knowledge, attitude, and behavior. But we believe the changes in "Enlightenment", "Buildup of Ability", "Buildup of Identity", "Change of Emotion", should be included in addition to knowledge, attitude, and behavior in the development of an instrument to measure the sex education effects. And the effect of sex education should measure the degree of learning of autonomy, enlightenment, and ability of behavior and so on rather than studying the simple changes in sexuality.enment", "Buildup of Ability", "Buildup of Identity", "Change of Emotion", should be included in addition to knowledge, attitude, and behavior in the development of an instrument to measure the sex education effects. • Music Reading as a Highly Skilled Human Behavior

Chang, Sun-Hee 이화여자대학교 사범대학 교과교육연구소 2004 East west education Vol.21 No.-

Music reading ability is an important basic skill for developing music literacy. It is a rather complex cognitive skill which can greatly enhance musical growth and learning. It is a skill which can enhance not only the elaboration of complex musical experience, but it also enables a broader understanding of humanity through musical experience. The studies of music reading encompass the studies of human perception in which visual perception tasks are involved under cognitive control. Therefore, the perspective of psychological studies give useful insight to understand music reading skill. Psychological studies in music reading frequently use sight- reading skill as a research task, because it characterizes the internal processes involved in music behavior. As music perceptual study, music reading has its theoretical base not only in sognitive psychology but also in Gestalt psychology. In addition, music reading as a skilled sequential behavior, produces sequential responses which involves grouping notes into larger, structured units, and hierarchical-order structure. As cognitive process of visual perception, sight-reading process consists of Gestaltian pattern of visual perception interacting with the hierarchical structural relationships in music.

      • Gene flow of GM pepper

        Sun-Hee Shin,Min Jung,Jung-Mi Park,Eun-Mi Jeon,Chang-Gi Kim,Chee-Hark Harn 한국육종학회 2013 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2013 No.07

CMVP1 (cucumber mosaic virus pathotype 1) has been frequently occurring virus causing damage in pepper farms, and it is hard to control the outbreak due to lack of the genetic source resistant to this specific pathotype. Therefore, we have developed transgenic peppers tolerant of CMVP1 using a CP gene of CMVP0 pathogen. In order to fulfill the requirement of the biosafety assessment criteria, we have studied the horizontal gene flow from GM pepper to non-GM pepper by monitoring the transgene movement. If the pepper farms are located closely each other and the pollen moves from GM pepper to non-GM pepper, it would cause unintended fertilization. Therefore, a buffer zone to separate the cultivation regions is required to avoid the contamination of transgene. Previously, several data regarding the movement distance of pepper pollen were reported by judging the phenotypic change. However, no tool as a trace marker was available. The objective of this study was to assess the frequencies of gene flow from GM peppers to non-GM peppers in neighboring farms using the transgene of CP as a trace marker. The GM and non-GM peppers were cultivated in the isolated farm of Nongwoo Bio Co. (NW GM pepper field) and pepper fruits were collected from the NW GM pepper field as well as the neighboring pepper farms. The pepper seeds collected from the farms were planted and the massive PCR analysis was performed to answer the question how far the pollen of GM pepper migrates. The conclusive data based on the consecutive experiments for 6 years is that the gene flow by pollen movement did not occur in peppers that were separated each other over 30 m.

The Peculiar Response of DNA Hydrogel Fibers to a Salt and pH Stimulus

        Lee, Sun Hee,Lee, Chang Kee,Shin, Su Ryon,Kim, Sun I.,So, Insuk,Kim, Seon Jeong WILEY-VCH Verlag 2009 Macromolecular Rapid Communications Vol.30 No.6

<P>DNA hydrogels which are composed of an entangled network without a crosslinker are synthesized and examined in regards to their sensitivity to salt and pH changes. The DNA hydrogel fibers only exhibited a marked response – that is a fast and large change in length – under biological conditions ([Na+] = 0.15 M at pH = 7) and are therefore suitable materials for bio-inspired devices.</P><P> <img src='wiley_img/10221336-2009-30-6-MARC200800677-gra001.gif' alt='wiley_img/10221336-2009-30-6-MARC200800677-gra001'> </P>

Overexpression of Insulin Degrading Enzyme could Greatly Contribute to Insulin Down-regulation Induced by Short-Term Swimming Exercise

        Min Sun Kim,Jun Seo Goo,Ji Eun Kim,So Hee Nam,Sun Il Choi,Hye Ryun Lee,In Sik Hwang,Sun Bo Shim,Seung Wan Jee,Su Hae Lee,Chang Joon Bae,Jung Sik Cho,Jun Yong Cho,Dae Youn Hwang 한국실험동물학회 2011 Laboratory Animal Research Vol.27 No.1

Exercise training is highly correlated with the reduced glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS), although it enhanced insulin sensitivity, glucose uptake and glucose transporter expression to reduce severity of diabetic symptoms. This study investigated the impact of short-term swimming exercise on insulin regulation in the Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rat as a non-obese model of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Wistar (W/S) and GK rats were trained 2 hours daily with the swimming exercise for 4 weeks, and then the changes in the metabolism of insulin and glucose were assessed. Body weight was markedly decreased in the exercised GK rats compare to their non-exercised counterpart, while W/S rats did not show any exercise-related changes. Glucose concentration was not changed by exercise, although impaired glucose tolerance was improved in GK rats 120 min after glucose injection. However, insulin concentration was decreased by swimming exercise as in the decrease of GSIS after running exercise. To identify the other cause for exercise-induced insulin down-regulation, the changes in the levels of key factors involved in insulin production (C-peptide) and clearance (insulin-degrading enzyme; IDE) were measured in W/S and GK rats. The C-peptide level was maintained while IDE expression increased markedly. Therefore, these results showed that insulin down-regulation induced by short-term swimming exercise likely attributes to enhanced insulin clearance via IDE over-expression than by altered insulin production.

두개인두종의 소아와 성인에서의 임상적 특성 및 수술적 치료결과

이선호,민경수,왕규창,정희원,김현집,조병규,최길수,한대희 대한신경외과학회 1991 Journal of Korean neurosurgical society Vol.20 No.4

The records of 59 patients with craniopharyngioma treated at the Department of Neurosurgery. SNUH, from Jan. 1981 to May 1990 were reviewed in order to compare the characteristics of the tumor in children and adults in view of clinical features, radiological findings, surgical results and follow-up outcome. This study was also done to evaluate the outcome and recurrence rate according to the extent of surgical removal between the two groups. Of the 59 patients, 22 patients were under the age of 15 and 37 patients were adults. In the child group the most frequent presenting symptoms were IICP symptoms(63.6%) followed by visual disturbance(27.3%) whereas visual disturbance(51.4%)were more often than IICP symptoms(24.3%) in the adult group. In the radiologic findings calcification(95.5%) and cystic change(95.5%) were more common in the children than the adults. In the adults calcification showed in 59.5% of patients and cystic change showed in 86.5% of patients. Hydrocephalus was noticed in 63.6% of the children whereas 16.2% of the adults showed hydrocephalus on the CT scan. Twenty-five operations were undertaken for 22 children and 39 surgical procedures were performed for 37 adults. Most of the surgical procedures were carried out by the pterional or subfrontal approach or a combined approach. Eighteen child patients and 12 adult patients underwent total removal and 3 child patients and 14 adult patients underwent subtotal removal. Surgical results were good in 33 adult patients and in 21 child patients. One patient died postoperatively after partial removal due to pulmonary embolism. The mean follow up period was 27.0 months in children and 22.6 months in adults. Clinical recurrence study with the subtotal and partial removal group revealed that recurrence happened more often and in a shorter period of time in children. Presumed factors influencing the total removal of tumor such as age, symptom duration, cysic portion, calcification, size and location of mass were analyzed. The total removal of the tumor is the best method of treatment however, the recurrence rate in cases of subtotal removal, the possibility of total removal and the morbidity accompanying total removal, were also considered in planning the surgical treatiment.

        갑상선기능저하증에 동반된 가로선백색손발톱(Transverse Leukonychia)

장희선 ( Hee Sun Chang ),한태영 ( Tae Young Han ),이현경 ( Hyun Kyung Lee ),손숙자 ( Sook Ja Son ) 대한피부과학회 2011 대한피부과학회지 Vol.49 No.5

Transverse leukonychia, also termed leukonychia striata, usually occurs in association with trauma, nutritional deficiencies, exposure to toxin, and various combinations of chemotherapy. It also has been reported to be associated with various systemic diseases, including acute infection, myocardial infarction, lymphoma, hepatic failure, renal failure, and systemic lupus erythematosus. A 50-year-old woman with several months` history of nail changes presented with multiple discrete transverse white bands involving the entire width of the nail plates of her fingers. According to the patient`s medical history, she had experienced fatigue, constipation, and cold intolerance for 6 months, and antithyroid antibodies were detected before noticing these nail changes. The patient was diagnosed as having an autoimmune hypothyroidism. Repeated KOH microscopic examination did not demonstrate fungal infection. We diagnosed this case as transverse leukonychia associated with hypothyroidism. This case report underlines the possible association of transverse leukonychia with hypothyroidism.
