        In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae(PPNG), we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by menas of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. In 1998, 93 strians of N. genorrhoeae were isolated, among which 60(64.5%) were PPNG. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 64.5% in 1998.

      • 김치발효중 가스발생에 따른 김치의 품질 특성 변화

        김치의 발효과정 중의 품질의 변화에 대하여 측정한 결과 온도가 5℃에서 20℃로 높아질수록 숙성속도가 빠르고 발생한 gas의 양도 많았지만, 일정기간 통안 발효가 진행된 후에는 gas의발생량이 줄어들었다. pH와 환원당량은 gas가 발생하는 특성과 유사하게 발효초기에만 급격히 떨어지고 발효가 진행될수록 변화가 적어지는 특성을 보였으나, 온도에 따른 최종측정치의 변화는 보이지 않아 gas가 발생하는 특성과의 차이를 보였다. 산도의 증가 형태 역시 gas의 증가 형태와 매우 유사하게 온도가 높아질수록 숙성속도가 빨라졌지만 최종 산도의 값은 각 온도별로 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 총균수는 gas 발생량의 변화와 비례관계는 보이지 않았지만 gas의 생성속도가 느려졌을 때 그 수가 줄어들었고 숙성 중 젖산균수의 변화는 총균수의 변화와 매우 유사한 경향을 보였다. 초기 젖산균수가 급상승하여 비슷한 수준을 유지할 때 gas는 초기젖산균수에 맞춰 증가하다가 젖산균수가 비슷한 시기일 메에도 젖산균의 증식이 계속되어 비교적 gas의 증가가 큰 폭으로 증가하였다. Effect of gas on quality of Kimchi was investigated at different fermentation temperatures. During Kimchi fermentation, the amount of gas, total numbers of viable cells, numbers of lactic acid bacteria and acidity increased but pH and reducing sugars decreased in all temperatures. The amount of gas increased with increasing fermentation temperature but the final volume of gas was not significantly different. Acidity, reducing sugars and pH showed similar patterns with gas production. The amount of gas was not depend on total numbers of viable cells but highly influenced by the numbers of lactic acid bacteria. This study provides the fundamental information on the relationship between fermentation temperature and shelf-stability of Kimchi.

        週40時間 勤務制가 專門建設 活動에 미치는 波及 影響 分析

        From July 2004, the 40 hours workweek system has been introduced to the construction industry. So, if the introduction of the 40 hours workweek system is unavoidable, then we need to have preparations against negative effects from that system because the construction industry has several characteristics as obstacles to settle down the system. Therefore we should consider several problems caused by them. The previous studies have been focused to effects of the 40 hours workweek system on the general construction industry. In order to analyze the effects of the 40 hours workweek system on the construction industry, it is essential to analyze the effects on the specialty construction industry because the actual construction activities are performed by the specialty construction companies. This study presents the effects of the 40 hours workweek system on the specialty construction industry. Therefore, this study tries on doing an in-depth analysis about the effects on specialty construction cost and time according to the introduction of the 40 hours workweek system.

      • 직접메탄을 연료전지용 귀금속 산화극 대체촉매의 개발

        Direct Methanol Fuel Cell (DMFC) is based on the technology of Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell. DMFC has several features of environmentally benign generation of electricity and high mobility for portable electronics etc., but its main problem to overcome for commercialization is the high cost of noble metal catalysts. In this study, it was found that the Pt/C catalyst supported on carbon nano fiber had the highest catalytic activity among the catalysts supported on several carbons. The newly developed Pt/C alternative catalyst had higher catalytic activity for methanol oxidation than the Pt/C catalyst supported on Vulcan XC-72.

      • 국내 발전소별 바텀애시를 잔골재 대체재로 사용한 모르터의 특성에 대한 실험적 연구

        With the advance in industrial development and modern living comfort, the demand for electricity throughout the country is ever increasing. Also the annual consumption of coal by coal-fired power plants is increasing. The amount of ash produced in 2000 is estimated to be about 4.5 million tons. The disposal of this huge amount of ash introduces serious environmental problems. Fly ash among the ash produced is used in building industries as a substitute to cement in concrete and the concrete thus produced is said to be lighter and stronger. But bottom ash among the ash produced is not used because of its poor properties. But encouraging the use of bottom ash as a construction material is a sensible method of utilization as it avoids the problems and costs associated with disposal and provides an alternative aggregate source. This study is aimed at using bottom ash as an alternative fine aggregate source to provide a solution to disposal and insufficient fine aggregate for the production of concrete. So properties of bottom ash produced in power plants were estimated due to the difference of bottom ash produced in each plant. And mortar strength was estimated as basic data to use bottom ash in building industries.

        As entering digital economic era, existing industries are replaced by internet businesses. Those environmental changes drove firms and industries out to restructure their business frameworks and marketing paradigms. Retailing industries are also hard to keep up with the changes. Someone said 20∼30% of family expenditure will go to electronic commerce in the near future, and others said store will be disappeared in 30∼40 years. While retailing businesses, like department stores and discounters, lose their sales, electronic commerce is experiencing dramatic sales growth in the last year in Korea. Moreover, experts are expecting continual growth in this industry.

        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

        모형식품의 해동방법에 따른 물성변화

        Optimal thawing conditions of frozen model foods containing protein and starch were investigated at various thawing conditions such as room temperature, hot air, and microwave heating. Hardness of the frozen model foods was getting higher as the water content increased. Thawing rates at room temperature, hot-air heating at 50℃, and microwave heating were 0.02Kg/min, 0.08Kg/min. 0.01 Kg/min. respectively. Final thawing time was as follows; control 60min, 5% sucrose: 50min, 10% sucrose: 30 min, 5% NaCl: 30 min. Total drip loss was as follows; room temperature thawing: 22.5%, 200W microwave thawing 1.3%, and 50℃ hot air thawing nearly negligible.

        기저세포모반증후군 두 증례

        The basal cell nevus syndrome (BCNS) is an autosomal dominant disorder, characterized by basal cell carcinomas, odontogenic keratocysts and skeletal abnormalities. We experienced two cases that represented several characteristics of BCNS. Case 1: a thirty three year-old man visited CSU hospital. His radiographs showed four cystic lesions at both maxillary sinus and both mandibular angle, with bifid rib and ectopic calcification of falx cerebri. After marsupialization and enucleation, recurrent and newly developing tendency were found on his follow-up radiographs. Case 2: a seventeen year-old man had four large cystic lesions which were diagnosed as odontogenic keratocysts. He had craniofacial anomalies which included ectopic calcification and frontal bossing.

        In this study, the relation of discharge patterns with the radiated electromagnetic waves is investigated by measuring electromagnetic waves using a antenna and a spectrum analyzer. The patterns of radiated electromagnetic waves measured at the atmospheric pressure in Liquid Nitrogen(LN_(2)) during the partial discharges in nonuniform electric field depend on positive DC power. From these points of view, it is considered that these results obtained from this investigation may be used as fundamental data for diagnosis and prediction of insulation on the equipments of superconducting and cryogenic applications.
