The purpose of this study is to evaluate the acid resistance of cement mortar admixed with waste phosphogypsum by steam curing admixture. Waste Phosphogypsum is a by-product from the phosphoric acid process for manufacturing fertilizers. It consists mainly of CaSO₄·2H₂O and contains some impurities such as P₂O_5, F^(-) and organic substances. The waste phosphogypsums is made use of 4 forms(Dihydrate, β-Hemihydrate, Ⅲ-Anhydrite and Ⅱ-Anhydrite) which were changed to in low temperature of calcination. The mass change and reduction ratio of compressive strength of cement mortar are investigated to evaluate the acid resistance. The specimens of cement mortar were immersed in HCI(5%) and H₂SO₄(5%, 10%) during 14, 28 and 56days. As a result, mass change and reduction ratio of compressive strength of cement mortar admixed with waste phosphogypsum are lower than cement mortar contained OPC alone. Also, Ⅲ-Anhydrite is comparable to Ⅱ-Anhydrite in acid resistance. Therefore, Ⅲ-Anhydrite phosphogypsum calcined at lower temperature could be used as steam curing admixture for concrete 2th production.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.

Mucus overproduction and airway obstruction are common features in airway mucosal inflammation. The mechanism by which LPS induces MUC5AC overexpression, however, has not been fully explored. The aims of this study were twofold: first, to examine the ATP-dependent mechanism by which LPS induces MUC5AC gene expression, and second, to identify specific molecules that could suppress LPS-induced MUC5AC expression at a G-protein-coupled receptor level. Here, we suggest that LPS from Pseudomonas aeruginosa induces MUC5AC overproduction by both an ATP-dependent pathway and an ATP-independent pathway. In addition, we showed that Regulator of G-protein signaling (RGS) 4 plays as a suppressor for ATP-induced MUC5AC expression by interacting with G alpha q in a GTP-dependent manner in vivo. These results give additional insights into the molecular mechanism of negative regulation of mucin overproduction and enhance our understanding of mucus hypersecretion during airway mucosal inflammation.

The mechanism by which E-prostanoid (EP) receptor is critically involved in PGE(2)-induced mucin 5AC (MUC5AC) gene expression in the airway has been unclear. Furthermore, there have been little reports regarding the negative regulatory mechanism and/or proteins that affect PGE(2)-induced MUC5AC overproduction. In the present study, we found that PGE(2) induced MUC5AC gene expression in a dose-dependent manner (EC(50): 73.31 +/- 3.13 nM) and that the EP(2/4)-specific agonist, misoprostol, increased MUC5AC mRNA level, whereas the EP(1/3)-specific agonist, sulprostone, had no effect. Interestingly, the cAMP concentration (685.1 +/- 14.9 pM) of the EC(50) value of EP(4)-mediated cAMP production was much higher than that of EP(2) (462.33 +/- 23.79 pM), suggesting that EP(4) has higher sensitivity to PGE(2) compared with EP(2). Moreover, PGE(2)-induced Muc5ac overproduction was much increased in regulator of G protein signaling (Rgs) 4 knockout (KO) mice compared with wild-type mice at both transcriptional and translational levels, and it was dramatically suppressed in Rgs4 KO mice that had been infected with lentivirus expressing RGS4 (lenti::RGS4) compared with lentivirus expressing enhanced green fluorescent protein (lenti::eGFP). Finally, we demonstrate that PGE(2) can induce MUC5AC overproduction via the EP(4) receptor and that RGS4 may have suppressive effects in controlling MUC5AC overexpression in the airway. These findings may provide a molecular paradigm for the development of novel drugs for respiratory diseases.

KATP Channel Controls LPS-Induced MUC5AC Overexpression In Vivo
( Kyoung Seob Song ) 한국조직공학·재생의학회 2011 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.8 No.2
Respiratory tract exposure to viruses, air pollutants, bacteria, and other pathogens can lead to airway diseases. Identifying the molecular mechanisms that increase mucous hypersecretion in the airway is important for developing new therapeutic strategies. There is well-established in vitro and in vivo data demonstrating the intracellular signal transduction by which overexpression of MUC5AC is induced by derived from Pseudomonas aeruginosa. However, the mechanisms by which lipopolysaccharide (LPS) activates KATP channel-mediated MUC5AC expression in vitro and in vivo remain unclear. The aim of this study was to identify the role of the KATP channel in LPS-induced MUC5AC expression in vivo. Here, we show that pharmacological KATP channel inhibition diminishes MUC5AC expression in vitro and in vivo. Mucous hypersecretion was also inhibited by the KATP channel inhibitor, Glybenclamide, when SEM analysis was performed. In conclusion, we found that KATP channel appears to mediate LPS-induced MUC5AC expression in vitro and in vivo and thus, the KATP channel may be a good target for regulating mucous hypersecretion in respiratory diseases.

Mucin hypersecretion is commonly observed in many inflammatory diseases of the respiratory tract. Mucins are important components that exert the number of functions in cell-cell interaction, intracellular signaling, and airway protection. The homeostasisof mucin production is an essential for feature in conducting airways for the maintenance of mucocilary function. In this review, the author summarizes work over the past 15 years on intracellular signal transduction of mucin gene expression and regulation in the airway, as well as how mucin gene expression is altered in lung diseases. This review also do the current view on the mediators, the signaling pathways, and the transcription factors that are related to the regulation of airway mucin gene expression.

We intended to know that the result of color duplex ultrasonography corresponded to that nocturnal penile tumescence rigidity in the diagnosis of erctile dysfunction. We performed both color duplex ultrasonography and nocturnal penile tumescence rigidity in 15 erectile dysfunction men. Colr duplex ultrasonography was done with a 7 MHz. color Doppler unit after intracorporeal pharmacological injection and measured maximal arterail diameter, peak systolic velocity, end-diastolic velocity and the results were compared with rigidity and tumescence in nocturnal penile tumescence rigidity using RigiScan. The positive predictive value, negative predictive value, sensitivity, specificity, overall accuracy of color duplex ultrasonography was reasonable when the result of color duplex ultrasonography was compared with the that of nocturnal penile tumescence rigidity. According to this results, color duplex ultrasonography could not only predict but also correspond to nocturnal penile tumescence. Therefore, we suggest that color duplex ultrasonography can relpace nocturnal penile tumescence rigidity if psychogenic and neurogenic erectile dysfunction are distinguished by history and neurologic examination.
