Dichromated gelatin (DCG) film is one of the best holographic recording materials because of its large refractive index changes, high resolution and high sensitivity to blue-green wavelength of light. The environmental stability of DCG film remains as a problem preventing their practical uses. Furthermore, DCG itself is insensitive to light of wavelength region by adding suitable dyes such as methylene blue (MB). However, the absorption of the material inevitably increases as adding MB dye into DCG, which results in attenuated gratings. In this work, we investigate the spectral sensitivity of MB-DCG film and the dependence of diffraction efficiency (DE) on the concentrations of MB for optimum hologram recordings. The experiment results are analysed based on the coupled wave diffraction theory for nonuniform gratings.

Cadmium(Cd) is an ubiquitous, toxic and nonessential metal which is controversial about the association with a cardiovascular disease. In this study, we investigated the reference level of Cd in myocardium in Korean general population. The level of Cd and zinc(Zn) concentration in myocardium of 252 cases of "sudden and unexpected death" autopsies (male: 172, female : 60) aged 0 to 87 years was analyzed. The concentration of Cd and Zn was determined with atomic absorption spectrophotometer(Perkin-Elmer Model 5100) by flameless and flame method, respectively. The content of Cd and Zn in myocardium showed the log-normal distribution rather than normal distribution. Geometric mean concentration of Cd was 0.19 ㎍/g wet weight in myocardium. The level of Cd in myocardium was not significantly different between male (0.18㎍/g wet weight) and female (0.22㎍/g wet weight). Geometric mean concentration of Zn in myocardium was 25.25 ㎍/g wet weight. The level of Zn between male (25.13 ㎍/g wet weight) and female (25.57㎍/g wet weight) was not different. The deposit of Cd in myocardium was age-dependent of biphasic pattern, but the Zn level by age was not significantly different. The level of Cd in myocardium was increased to the fifties of age, thereafter a leveling-off was shown. The regression model of Cd deposit in myocardium by age was predicted as the following equation: Log Heart-Cd= -1.2726 + 0.0234 ·Age -0.0002 ·Age². The maximum Cd deposit in myocardium was estimated to be 0.26 ㎍/g wet weight at the age of 58.5 in Korean general population. In addition, the total Cd burden in heart by age was predicted as a following equation: Total Cd burden in Heart= -10.165+2.891 ·Age -0.0258 ·Age². The maximum heart burden of Cd was estimated to be 70.7㎍ at age of 55.4. The positive correlation between Cd and Zn was observed in myocardium. The linear regression equation was Log Heart-Zn = 1.4195+0.0262 ·Log Heart-Cd.

Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

A mathematical simulation model of Diesel cycles is developed with emphasis on treatment of the combustion phenomena. Phenomenollogical multi-zone combustion models are introduced and the vapor model is implemented in the cycle simulation program. Comparison with experimental data has shown reasonable agreement for varying load and speed conditions.<br/>

Though Cornin is known to induce angiogenic, cardioprotective and apoptotic effects, there is no report on antitumor effect of Cornin in prostate cancers yet. Thus, in the present study, the apoptotic mechanism of Cornin was investigated in androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells in association with STAT3/AR signaling axis. Cornin exerted significant cytotoxicity, induced sub-G1 population, and decreased the PARP and caspase3 in LNCaP cells. Consistently, Cornin downregulated the expression of AR, PSA and 5α-Reductase in LNCaP cells. Furthermore, Cornin inhibited phosphorylation of STAT3 and also disrupted the binding of STAT3 and AR in LNCaP cells. Notably, Cornin upregulated the level of miR-193a-5p in LNCaP cells. Consistently, miR-193a-5p mimic exerted cytotoxicity, suppressed AR, STAT3 and pro-PARP and suppressed the expression of AR and 5α-Reductase at mRNA level, whereas miR-193a-5p inhibitor reversed the ability of Cornin to attenuate AR, PSA and STAT3 in LNCaP cells. Overall, our findings provide scientific evidence that miRNA-193a- 5p mediated inhibition of STAT3/AR signaling axis is critically involved in Cornin induced apoptosis in prostate cancers.

The level of satisfaction of the customer for the cogeneration system operation has been surveyed for the apartment houses. The main item consists of the customer complaints, level of satisfaction, the way of operation, areas for improvement and the A/S etc. Through this survey of satisfaction for the customer, it is expected that the results are to be utilized as a fundamental material concerning the construction of effective and realistic countermeasures for the improvement in the spread of the cogeneration system.

In this paper, a simulation approach for the optimum design of cogeneration system is described. For the purpose of the systematic analysis, a simulation tool is developed with which the prediction of the energy load, calculation of operation data according to prime mover or capacity of it, and estimation of economic gains can be carried out. As for the criterion of the optimum design, the economic gains by adopting cogeneration system is taken. Based on the capital, operation, and maintenance costs etc, LCC analysis is to be carried out for the scenarios respectively. In this study, the simulation for the apartment complex is performed and the analysis of the results are described in detail. The effects of the operation parameters such as capital cost, fuel cost, and unit cost for the purchase or sale of heat and electricity on overall economy are also be considered by sensitivity study.

In this paper, the new concept of operating indexes for the cogeneration system is introduced for the consideration of effective operation of the cogeneration systems and improving the economic benefit in consequence. The choice of prime-mover with the appropriate capacity is the most crucial factor for the successful operation of the cogeneration system and could be considered as the necessary condition for it. However, the appropriately chosen prime-mover in terms of capacity does not always guarantee the economic benefits through the annual operation of the system. The systematic and optimal operation modes against various transitions of the energy loads are highly desirable along with the properly selected hardware of cogeneration system. In this study, the operating indexes with which one can estimate easily the current status of the operation will be presented based on the detailed simulation results for various test cases for apartment houses.

In recent, the effort of reducing heating cost by remodeling prevails around apartment complex of it's declining years. It has been almost proven that the central heating system is inferior to other heating systems such as separate heating, district heating, or cogeneration heating system etc. from the point of view of economy and energy reduction. However, it has not been clearly clarified yet which system is better among other heating systems. And it makes the inhabitants be hardly distinguishable in choosing appropriate heating system in case of remodeling. In this study, the economy of heating systems for remodeling apt. of it's declining years is compared and assessed based on the result for the case study in remodeling of an apartment complex, focusing on the district heating and cogeneration systems. The optimal heating system from the national and consumer point of view is to be discussed as well.
