Though Cornin is known to induce angiogenic, cardioprotective and apoptotic effects, there is no report on antitumor effect of Cornin in prostate cancers yet. Thus, in the present study, the apoptotic mechanism of Cornin was investigated in androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells in association with STAT3/AR signaling axis. Cornin exerted significant cytotoxicity, induced sub-G1 population, and decreased the PARP and caspase3 in LNCaP cells. Consistently, Cornin downregulated the expression of AR, PSA and 5α-Reductase in LNCaP cells. Furthermore, Cornin inhibited phosphorylation of STAT3 and also disrupted the binding of STAT3 and AR in LNCaP cells. Notably, Cornin upregulated the level of miR-193a-5p in LNCaP cells. Consistently, miR-193a-5p mimic exerted cytotoxicity, suppressed AR, STAT3 and pro-PARP and suppressed the expression of AR and 5α-Reductase at mRNA level, whereas miR-193a-5p inhibitor reversed the ability of Cornin to attenuate AR, PSA and STAT3 in LNCaP cells. Overall, our findings provide scientific evidence that miRNA-193a- 5p mediated inhibition of STAT3/AR signaling axis is critically involved in Cornin induced apoptosis in prostate cancers.

<P>We examine the temperature-dependent electrical conductivity in amorphous InGaZnO thin films with various cation compositions. In-rich films are metallic, while Ga-rich films are semiconducting with logarithmic conductivities linear to -T<SUP>−1/4</SUP> above T = 60 K. The Zn-rich films are also semiconducting but have >10<SUP>2</SUP> times higher conductivity than the Ga-rich films. At T > 60 K, thermal electronic excitation dominantly contributes the conduction, while at T < 60 K, certain impurity scatterings or structural disorders have importance in the electrical properties in low carrier <I>a</I>-IGZO system.</P>

Background: There is still some controversy regarding the method for fixing a soft tissue graft in the femoral tunnel of the ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) reconstruction and the early rehabilitation is limited during the early postoperative period. Method: This study evaluated the coronal and sagittal T2-weighted MR(recovery>120° range of motion) after surgery. The distance was measured from the most upper point of the graft to the upper border of the superior cross-pin. To reduce the intra- and inter-observer bias, the measurements were taken twice by two orthopedic surgeons for all patients. Results: The inter-rater and intra-rater reliability ranged from 0.79 to 0.93. One of the 18 patients showed complete breakage of the 2 cross pins 8 weeks after surgery, even though it was intact 4 days postoperatively. From an analysis of the remaining 17 patients, there was no significant difference in the coronal and sagittal measurements taken at postoperative 4 days and 8 weeks (p=0.170~0.737). Conclusion: The expansion mechanism of cross-pin works well during the early healing period. However, further study on the strength of this fixation technique will be needed because 1 of the 18 patients showed broken pins.

전신성 홍반성 낭창은 여러 장기를 침범하는 대표적인 결체 조직 질환으로 주로 성인에서 발생하지만 15-20%는 소아에서 시작되고 자가 항체에 의해 급성으로 발생하는 폐병변으로 급성 루푸스 폐렴이 드물게 발생한다. 본 저자들은 늑막 삼출, 림프구 감소, 항 핵항제와 항 항체 양성으로 진단된 전신성 홍반성 낭창에서 조직검사를 통해 병리소견을 확진한 급성 루푸스 폐렴을 경험하였기에 보고하는 바이다. We report case of a 14-year-old girl with systemic lupus erythematosus who initially presented with acute lupus pneumonitis. She had a 4-week history of exertion for the past 4 weeks, and was transferred from a regional hospital due to abnormality on chest radiographs. Chest radiographs revealed bilateral infiltration and pleural effusion on both lower lung fields. We assumed her to be infected and prescribed antibiotics. The response to antibiotics was ineffective, and viral, bacterial, and mycobacterial cultures were negative. Antinuclear and anti-dsDNA antibodies in serum were positive. The open lung biopsy revealed diffuse alveolar damage. She was diagnosed as having acute lupus pneumonitis in systemic lupus erythematosus and recovered gradually after receiving corticosteroids. Acute lupus pneumonitis may be considered even though interstitial lung involvement in systemic lupus erythematosus is relatively rare in pediatric practice and its diagnosis is difficult.
