        Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been panedemic and remains one of the most commom STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods: For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the VD Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results: In 1996, 139 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 53(39.0%) were PPNG. Conclusion: Our results suggests that after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, the prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is gradually declining.

      • 農業廢棄種子의 化學的 및 營養學的 特性

        Recently increased attention has been given to utilization of agricultural waste products to produce food, feed, fertilizer and as a raw material in home and foreign countries. Such utilization could not only help maximize resources but at the same time minimize waste disposal problems. On this purpos, studies were conducted to investigate the possibility of utilizing of agricultural waste seeds-gourd, cucumber, peach, citron and hardy orange. The results determined could be summarized as follow: 1. The waste seeds contained 16-32% of crude protein, 25-46% of crude fat. Determined food energy values averaged 589kcal/100g. Especially, Peach seed were contained higher content than other waste seeds in crude protein and crude fat. 2. Of the oil charcteristics, iodine value was in the range of 100-154, saponification value was in the range of 124-188 and acid valve was about 1.1. 3. The seeds were found to have valuable amounts of essential minerals. The content of iron in gourd. cucumber and citron seeds were in the range of 48-90ppm and the content of copper. zinc and calcium were plentyful than that of other food resources. 4. The lipid fractions obtained by silic acid column chromatography were mainly composed of over 87% neutral lipid, whereas the content of glycolipid and phospholipid were 1.0-5.3% and 1.5-7.3% respectively. 5. Among the neutral lipid in total lipid, triglyceides were predominant (68.7-78.1%) with smaller amounts of the others. Among the glycolipids, esterifed steryl glycosides (41.2-52.4%), cerebrosies (20.8-28.6%) and steryl glycosides (12.7-24.3%) were the most abundant and others were present as minor components. Of the phospholipids, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl choline and phosphatidyl serine, and phosphatidyl glycerol were the major components. 6. The major fatty acids in tile total lipids were linoleic(41.6-67.4%), ofeic (14.5-40.7%) and paimitic (7.3-23.3%) acids. The contents of the unsaturated fatty acids were more predominant than saturated fatty acids. 7 .Among the changes of nitrogen compounds, the contents of the soluble protein-N (48.3-65.9%) was the most abundant, whereas insoluble protein-N was slightly higher than soluble protein-N in the hardy orange seed. Peptide protein-N was contained as minor contents (1.8∼4.9%) except citron seed (11.7%). 8. TILe major amino acids of the these seed proteins were glutamic, arginine, aspartic, g1ycine and leucine, and the essential amino acids except tryptophan were detected. 9. It has been identified by SDS-disc electrophoresis that peach seed protein showed 7 bands and the others showed 6 bands. Compared with standard substances, the molfcular weight of the main protein in the gourd, cucumber, peach, citron and hardy orange seeds were estimated to be 44,000, 47, 500, 43,500. 44,500, 46,000 respectively.

      • 액체막법에 의한 중금속이온의 분리 및 회수

        거대고리 리간드는 금속이온과 선택적으로 결합하는데, 이를 이용하여 에멀젼 액체막을 통한 금속이온의 이동에 관하여 연구를 수행하였다. 금속이온은 유기층에 있는 운반체에 의하여 source phase에서 receiving phase으로 이동한다. 운반체로는 거대고리 리간드인 DBN_(3)O_(3)를 사용하였다. 여기에서 에멀젼 액체막을 통한 금속이온의 이동에 관한 요인과 어떤 금속이온의 선택적 분리에 관하여 검토하였다. 금속이온과 거대고리 리간드 그리고 금속이온과 receiving phase내에 있는 음이온에 대한 안정도 상수를 금속이온의 선택적 이동에 대한 척도로 조사하였다. 납이온이 혼합 용액에서 다른 금속이온보다 높은 이동속도를 나타내었다. Receiving phase내의 음이온이 금속이온의 이동에 중요한 역할을 한다. Receiving phase내에 있는 NO_(3)^(-)을 S_(2)O_(3)^(2-) 대치하면 이동량이 증가함을 보였는데 이는 Pb^(2-)-S_(2)O_(3)^(2-) 상호작용이 Pb^(2+)-NO_(3)^(-) 상호작용보다 크기 때문이다. Macrocyclic ligand has been know to selectively bind with metal ions so that ability applied for the transport of metal ions across the emulsion liquid membrane in this study. The metal ions are transproted from the source phase to the receiving phase by the carrier of the organic phase. Several factors involved in the transport of metal ions acrose the emulsion membrane we reported here and these factors proveided the informations for the selective seperation of some metal ion. Stability constants for cation-macrocyclic ligand and metal ion-anion receiving phase interaction are examined as parameters for the prediction of metal ion transport selectivities Pb^(2+) was transported higher rates than the other metal ions in the mixture solution. The interaction of metal ion to anion in receiving phase is important. S_(2)O_(3)^(2-) in replacement of NO_(3)^(-) in the receiving phase enhances the transport of pb^(2-) since Pb^(2-)-S_(2)O_(3)^(2-) interaction is greater than Pb^(2+)-NO_(3)^(+) interaction.

      • 식품가공공장 폐수의 미생물학적 처리 및 응용 : 미생물 균체단백질 회수 Recovery of Mycelial Proteins

        식품공장 폐수에는 각종 유기물을 다량 함유하고 있다. 이와 같은 식품공장 폐기물의 미생물학적 처리효과를 검토하는 동시에 폐수 중에서 배양된 곰팡이 균체단백질을 분리·회수함으로 해서 폐수처리비용을 절감하고, 단백질 함량이 높은 균체단백사료를 개발할 목적으로 식품공장 폐수의 BOD 및 COD를 낮은 수준으로 감소시키고 증식속도가 빠르며 균체수율이 높고 고농도의 단백질을 함유하며 소화율이 높은 균체를 생산할 수 있는 곰팡이로 Aspergillus fumigatus를 분리·선발하였고, 선발된 균주의 최적배양조건인 35∼40℃, pH 4.0∼4.5에서 pilot plant의 연속배양장치를 이용하여 주정공장 폐수를 기질로 하여 일정시간 동안 배양하여 폐수의 BOD, COD를 90% 이상 감소시켜 폐수정화를 도모할 수 있었으며 균체단백질을 기준 배합사료에 첨가하여 실시한 동물사양 시험 결과, 사양동물의 체중증가량과 단백질 이용율이 대조표준 시험구에 준할 수 있는 효과를 보여 주었다. The rationale for the use of fungi in treating waste streams from food processing plants has been that of incorporating the dissolved and suspending nutrients into a macroscopic organism which can be filtered out readily. In order for a process using fungi to meet these objectives we examined a strain of fungi, Aspergillus fumigatus, which grew well on a variety of polysaccharide-containing materials and showed both efficient BOD removal and high quality protein recovery. In this experiment the fungal choice was based on the laboratory screening studies where the criteria used was BOD and COD reduction, growth response, mycelial yield, and the ability to compete with the natural flora. In the fermentation system used for the continuous culture of Aspergillus fumigatus the best combination of operating variables, inoculum ratio. temperature, initial pH, fermentation time and agitation rate was 5%(v/v), 35∼40℃, pH 4.5∼5.0, 2days and 150rpm, respectively. The fungus reduced BOD and COD to 94.0 and 90.4%, respectively and 3.15g of dry mycelium per liter of alcohol waste was harvested during 48hr of incubation time. The protein efficiency ratios for the control diet and the experimental diet containing the fungal protein were 3.42±0.15 and 3.40±0.43, respectively.

      • 인삼 및 인삼밭 토양의 무기성분 정량에 관한 연구

        The author investigated the physical and chemical properties of the soil which ginsengs were cultivated and minerals in Korean ginseng were analyzed. The results were summarized as follows: 1. The soil which ginsengs were cultivated was that of Lithosel or reddish yellow Podzolic. 2. Ginseng tail showed the higher values in the contents of all the minerals than white ginseng. Other minerals except Na, Cu, and P seemed to be more abundant in the ground part than in ginseng root and in ginseng leaves, especially, such elements as Fe, Cu, Zn, and Mn were distributed in great quantities. 3. The content of Ca in ginseng root increased gradually according to growth stage and that of K, Na and Mg decreased on the contrary. 4. In the course of manufacturing of red ginseng, some minerals and proximate components were washed away. 5. Ginseng tails were extracted with ethyl alcohol and concentrated. The extraction yields of chemical components in ginseng extract were as follows: fat: 52.4% free sugar: 87.4% the other proximate component: 15-30% K: 68.1% Na: 54.6% P_2O_5:48.2% Mg: 41.2%

        레니텍^(�) 정(말레인산 에날라프릴, 10mg)에 대한 에나레이스 정의 생물학적 동등성

        The purpose of present study was to evaluate the bioequivalence of two enalapril maleate tablets, Renitec^(™) (MSD Korea Ltd.) and Enalace ^(™) (Welfide Korea Ltd.), according to the guidelines of Korea Food Drug Administration (KFDA). Twenty-four normal male volunteers, 22.33±2.55 year in age and 66.54±8.30 ㎏ in body weight, were divided into two groups and a randomized 2×2 cross-over study was employed. After two tablets containint 10 ㎎ of enal-april maleate per tablet wre orally administered, blood was taken at predetermined time intervals and concentrations of enalapril in plasma were determined using LC-MS-MS. Pharmacokinetic parameters such as AUC_(t), C_(max) and T_(max) were calculated and ANOVA test was utilized for the statistical analysis of the parameters using logarithmically transformed AUC_(t) and C_(max) untransformed T_(max). There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals for the log transfored data were acceptance range of log0.8 to log1.25(e.g., log1.02∼log1.14 and log1.03∼log1.19 for AUC_(t) and C_(max), respectively). The major parameters, AUC_(t) and C_(max), met the criteria of KDFA for bioequivalence indicating that Enalace^(™) tablet is bioequivalent to Renitec^(™) tablet.

        The measurements of pesticide Benfuracarb were studied and following conditions were proposed as a most good methods; 1. There were detected at 274 nm by means of Hitachi 200-20 spectrophotometer. 2. Pesticide Benfuracarb mesurement was performed by means of ISCO model 2350, spherisorb ODS column, 80% acetonitrile as a solvent phase, flow rate 0.5 ml/min, chart speed 0.5 cm/min, and 25℃ oven temperature. 3. The relationships between the concentration and absorbance of pesticide Benfuracarb were linear from 5 to 50 ppm. 4. Deproteinzation and the recovery rate would be used satisfactorily in Folin-Wu.

      • 농아에서의 측두골 전산화 단층촬영 소견과 다른검사 요인과의 연관성

        Temporal bone high resolution computed tomogram(TBHRCT)is a essential diagnostic tool in considering for cochlear implantation in patients with profound sensorineural hearing loss. This study was designed for an effort to provide and efficacy of TBHRCT in determination of inner ear malformations for the patients who have profound sensorineural hearing loss and to examine the relationships between TBHRCT findings and other preoperative evalutions for cochlear implantation in that patients. Authors examined 68 deaf patients to provide fundamental data for cochlear implantation. Inner ear abnormalities were founded in 13(19%) patients, among which 10(14.7%) patients had Mondini'dysplasia in which 5 patients were hypoplastic type and 5 patients were hydrops type. Other inner ear abnormalities were as follows : lateral semicircular canal hypoplasia ; internal auditory canal abnormality ; cochlear aqueduct widening ; vestibular aqueduct widening. No relationships were found between TBHRCT findings and other test results. : promontory test, K-WISC cognitive test etc.(Korean J Otolaryngol 39 : 8, 1996)
