The 800-kW PM (permanent magnet) synchronous generator is developed as a wind power generator. The matching converter is designed to control the torque and power depending on the wind speed regime. The generator starts to generate the power at the speed of 9 rpm and the rated output is generated at the speed of 25 rpm. The rated output power of an inverter is 750 kW when the PM synchronous generator is delivering 800 kW to the inverter. The inverter is specially designed to perform the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) at the low wind speed regime that is typical wind environment in Korea. The inverter test was done with a 2 MW M-G system at KERI (Korea Electric Research Institute). The M-G set has a 2 MW motor driver and a 38:1 gear to match the speed between the motor and the PM generator. The torque simulating the wind is applied to the PM generator by a DC motor. The test results show the inverter efficiency of 94.3% at the rated power generating condition. The measured values show that the MPPT algorithm is working well. Overall reliability will be verified through the long-term site test.

The PLS-Ⅱ, the major upgrade program of the PLS (Pohang Light Source, a 2.5-GeV 3rd generation light source), is planned at the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory. Given the glaring lack of normative data regarding the PLS-Ⅱ the major upgrade, this study can be seen as the first in a needed stream of research investigating selection by dual gun and dc electron gun. Usable electron gun can think method to use dual electron gun and method to prove energy by existing electron gun in energy increase. This article is concerned with the formal classification of used of pre-injector electron gun type of the DC and pulse. Design concept wishes to show contents that design for pulse type of power supply and DC type of electron gun.

Although various endoscopic treatments, such as laser photocoagulation, electrocoagulation, heater probe, injection have been used for treatment of arteriovenous malformation (AVM), associated complications also have been reported. In order to avoid the complications, elastic band ligation has recently been used as an alternative method for endoscopic treatment of gastric AVM. A 58-year-old man was admitted due to hematemesis and melena. A gastroscopy revealed AVM with vessel exposure and active bleeding at the greater curvature of fundus, and we performed arteriography for emergency embolization, but, we do not find the bleeding vessel. Endoscopic band ligation therapy was performed as an alternative method for control of bleeding. 2 months later, follow-up endoscopy showed disappearance of AVM and no evidence of hemorrhage.
Folate-modified PLGA nanoparticles for tumor-targeted delivery of pheophorbide a <i>in vivo</i>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Targeted drug delivery has been an important issue for tumor therapy including photodynamic therapy (PDT). The purpose of our study is to increase the targeting efficiency of photosensitizer (PS) using folate-modified nanoparticles (NPs) to tumor site <I>in vivo</I>. Folate receptor is over-expressed on the surface of many human cancer cells. We prepared poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) NPs containing pheophorbide a (Pba), a PS that is used in PDT and generates free radical for killing cancer cells. The surface of NPs was composed of phospholipids modified with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and folate (FA). The size of the resulting FA-PLGA-Pba NPs was about 200 nm in PBS at pH 7.4 and they were stable for long time. They showed faster cellular uptake to MKN28 human gastric cancer cell line than control PLGA-Pba NPs by high-affinity binding with folate receptors on cell surface. In MTT assay, FA-PLGA-Pba NPs also showed enhanced tumor cell killing compared to control PLGA-Pba NPs. <I>In vivo</I> and <I>ex vivo</I> imaging showed high accumulation of FA-PLGA-Pba NPs in tumor site during 24 h after intravenous injection to MKN28 tumor-bearing mice model. <P>Silibinin, a flavonoid isolated from Silybum marianum, has been reported to have cancer chemopreventive and therapeutic effects. Here, we show that treatment with subtoxic doses of silibinin in combination with tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) induces rapid apoptosis in TRAIL-resistant glioma cells, but not in human astrocytes, suggesting that this combined treatment may offer an attractive strategy for safely treating gliomas. Although the proteolytic processing of procaspase-3 by TRAIL was partially blocked in glioma cells, cotreatment with silibinin efficiently recovered TRAIL-induced caspase activation in these cells. Silibinin treatment up-regulated DR5, a death receptor of TRAIL, in a transcription factor CHOP-dependent manner. Furthermore, treatment with silibinin down-regulated the protein levels of the antiapoptotic proteins FLIP(L), FLIP(S), and survivin through proteasome-mediated degradation. Taken together, our results show that the activity of silibinin to modulate multiple components in the death receptor-mediated apoptotic pathway is responsible for its ability to recover TRAIL sensitivity in TRAIL-resistant glioma cells.</P>
Cracking of 5Cr steel tee-pipe during start-up operation in heavy oil upgrade refinery

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>During the start-up operation of an HOU refinery plant, leaking through a crack at the top of a T-pipe was found in a hydrocracking process. Various kinds of metallurgical inspections of the failed T-pipe were performed in order to find the cause of cracking e.g., metallography, fractography, hardness measurement, EDS analysis and hydrogen concentration measurement. Since thermal loading in the T-pipe was usually higher during the start-up operation than under steady operations, a system load analyses of the pipe was conducted. Detailed finite element analysis of the T-pipe was also conducted to identify high stress locations and to assess the stress intensity factor of the crack partly penetrated the T-pipe.</P> <P>The 5Cr T-pipe steel satisfied the chemical composition requirements for ASTM A234 but the tensile strength and hardness were significantly higher than recommended in the standard, which made the pipe steel vulnerable to a hydrogen environment formed by the feed inside of the pipe. The cracking started from the inclusions near the inner surface of the pipe and grew due to the hydrogen effect. Inspection results supporting this argument are explained. And recommendations for preventing similar cracking failures were made.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Leaking at T-pipe occurred during start-up operation of a refinery plant. </LI> <LI> Cracking can occur at very low stress locations if hydrogen damage is involved. </LI> <LI> 5Cr steel with high hardness/strength made it vulnerable to hydrogen damage. </LI> <LI> Inclusions (Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB>, SiO<SUB>2</SUB>) near the inner surface may act as hydrogen crack initiation locations. </LI> <LI> Hydrogen charging as a result of SCC reaction can cause hydrogen cracking. </LI> </UL> </P>
