• 수출용 축양품종 가지의 염절임 공정의 최적화

        남학식,김남우,황성희,윤광섭,신승렬 한국식품저장유통학회 ( 구 한국농산물저장유통학회 ) 2003 한국식품저장유통학회지 Vol.10 No.3

This study was conducted to the optimize salting process of eggplant for development new product and enhancement quality for export. Three variables by five level central composite design and response surface methodology were used to determine optimum conditions for salting time, temperature and salt concentration. Optimization of the process was conducted using the combination of the moisture content, salinity and color of surface and inside of salted eggplant. The regression polynomial model was suitable (P>0.05) by Lack-of-Fit analysis with highly significant. To optimize the process, based on surface response and contour plots, the individual contour plots of the response variables were superimposed. The optimum conditions for this process were 6 days and 15℃ at 30% concentration under the optimum of restricted variables as moisture content was below 84%, salinity was below 14%, L and b value of surface were 10 to 20 and below 0, L value and b value of inside were 70 to 75 and 16 to 18.

      • Comparison of arterial stiffness indices measured by the Colins and SphygmoCor systems

        Youn, Jong-Chan,Kim, Jong-Youn,Park, Sungha,Kwon, Jisun,Lee, Hye Sun,Shin, Dong-Ho,Lee, Sang-Hak,Kang, Seok-Min,Hoon Son, Nak,Jang, Yangsoo Springer Science and Business Media LLC 2012 Hypertension research Vol.35 No.12

Arterial stiffness is a known independent predictor of cardiovascular mortality. The Colins system is an easy device and has gained widespread use, but the cutoff value for high-risk central arterial stiffness is not well established. We investigated the correlation between arterial stiffness measured by the Colins system with conventional measurements from the SphygmoCor system. Arterial pulse wave velocity (PWV) and augmentation indices (AIs) were measured on a single visit using two different devices in 948 patients with hypertension or coronary artery disease. Strong positive correlations were observed for PWV values measured by the SphygmoCor and Colins systems. The Colins system measurements accurately predicted high-risk central arterial stiffness, defined as carotid-femoral PWV12?m?s(-1), with an area under the receiver-operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.884 (heart-femoral PWV, hfPWV) and 0.830 (brachial-ankle PWV, baPWV) in the training set (N=664). The cutoff values, 11.18 (hfPWV) and 16.17?m?s(-1) (baPWV), showed good discrimination in the validation set (N=284), with sensitivity of 83.3 (hfPWV) and 76.0% (baPWV), and specificity of 74.9 (hfPWV) and 82.6% (baPWV). The SphygmoCor and Colins AI systems also showed moderate positive correlation. The Colins AI system better predicted high-risk central pulse pressure as defined by pulse pressure50?mm?Hg (AUC: Colins, 0.765; SphygmoCor, 0.692; P=0.011). Arterial stiffness measured by the Colins system showed strong positive correlation and agreement with the SphygmoCor system measurement. Cutoff values for high-risk central arterial stiffness in the Colins system need further validation in a prospective study.

Natural Frequencies of Euler-Bernoulli Beam with Open Cracks on Elastic Foundations

Shin Young-Jae,Yun Jong-Hak,Seong Kyeong-Youn,Kim Jae-Ho,Kang Sung-Hwang The Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers 2006 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.20 No.4

A study of the natural vibrations of beam resting on elastic foundation with finite number of transverse open cracks is presented. Frequency equations are derived for beams with different end restraints. Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation and Euler-Bernoulli beam on Pasternak foundation are investigated. The cracks are modeled by massless substitute spring. The effects of the crack location, size and its number and the foundation constants, on the natural frequencies of the beam, are investigated.

      • Feulgen reaction study of novel threadlike structures (Bonghan ducts) on the surfaces of mammalian organs

        Shin, Hak-Soo,Johng, Hyeon-Min,Lee, Byung-Cheon,Cho, Sung-Il,Soh, Kyung-Soon,Baik, Ku-Youn,Yoo, Jung-Sun,Soh, Kwang-Sup JOHN WILEY & SONS LTD 2005 ANATOMICAL RECORD PART B THE NEW ANATOMIST Vol.284 No.1

Threadlike structures on the surfaces of internal organs, which are thought to be part of the Bonghan duct system, were first reported about 40 years ago, but have been largely ignored since then. Recently, they were rediscovered, and in this study we discuss the Feulgen reaction that specifically stains DNA in order to identify these structures on the surface of rabbit livers as part of the Bonghan system. The distribution, shapes, and sizes of their nuclei are found to be similar to those of intravascular threadlike structures. The endothelial nuclei are rod-shaped, 10–20 μm long, and aligned in a broken-line striped fashion. The threadlike structure consists of a bundle of several subducts, which is a characteristic feature of Bonghan ducts and distinguishes them morphologically from lymphatic vessels. In addition, the Feulgen reaction clearly demonstrates that the subducts pass through a corpuscle, which is usually irregular or oval-shaped and is connected to two or several threadlike structures that form a web on the surfaces of organs. Furthermore, spherical granules of about 1 μm in diameter are detected in the subducts. These granules were well stained by using the Feulgen reaction, which implies that they contain DNA. According to previous reports, a granule is a type of microcell and plays an essential role in the physiology and therapeutic effect of the Bonghan system and acupuncture. This role has yet to be elucidated. Anat Rec (Part B: New Anat) 284B:35–40, 2005. © 2005 Wiley-Liss, Inc.

      • Adiponectin and progression of arterial stiffness in hypertensive patients

        Youn, Jong-Chan,Kim, Changsoo,Park, Sungha,Lee, Sang-Hak,Kang, Seok-Min,Choi, Donghoon,Son, Nak Hoon,Shin, Dong-Jik,Jang, Yangsoo Elsevier 2013 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF CARDIOLOGY Vol.163 No.3

Abstract

Background

Recent studies suggest that adiposity is associated with arterial stiffness. However, it is unclear which adipokine or what adiposity related parameters are related with the progression of arterial stiffness. We hypothesized that in hypertensive patients, initial levels of adipokines such as adiponectin and resistin are related to the progression of arterial stiffness, which has been proven to be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events.

Methods

One hundred forty one consecutive patients with treated essential hypertension (81 men, 57.7±8.2years) were enrolled. Pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured at baseline, and after 24months. Clinical variables and laboratory findings at the time of initial enrollment were analyzed to reveal the determinants of arterial stiffening.

Results

Mean heart to femoral PWV (hfPWV) was 992±202cm/s at baseline, and 1021±263cm/s at 24months follow up. hfPWV progressed in seventy two patients (51.1%) during follow up period. In patients with hfPWV progression, mean plasma adiponectin level was significantly lower than patients with nonprogression (progressor: 5.18±3.21μg/ml, non-progressor: 7.02±5.19μg/ml, p =0.013). Multivariate regression analysis revealed plasma adiponectin level to being an independent predictor of hfPWV changes (ß=−0.018, p =0.032) when controlled for age, gender, SBP changes, BP control and HOMA.

Conclusions

Plasma adiponectin levels are associated with progression of arterial stiffness in hypertensive patients. These findings may be one explanation for the high association between adiposity and arterial stiffness in hypertensive patients.

Research Highlights

► The association between adiposity and hypertension has been well documented. ► We sought to reveal what adipokine is related with arterial stiffening. ► Plasma adiponectin levels are associated with arterial stiffening in hypertensive patients. ► These findings may partly explain the high association between adiposity and hypertension.
