Air pollutants were measured eight times from June 1999 to June 2002 on regular ferries cruising across the Yellow Sea between Incheon in Korea and Qingdao or Tianjin in China. PM_(10) and PM_(2.5_ were measured as particulate matters and SO₂, CO, and NOx were measured as gaseous pollutants. On each route, sampling was made, starting two hour after departure and ending two hour before arrival. Low concentrations of gaseous pollutants that were not much varied according to sampling period and location revealed that atmosphere over the sea was not directly affected by anthropogenic emissions. However, concentrations of fine particles were generally higher than those measured at Deokjeok Island. 50 km west of the western seashore, at similar periods. It was believed that considerable influence of China in the form of secondary pollutants was exerted over the sea.

A multi-functional indoor smog chamber was designed and evaluated lo investigate photochenical or water vapor reaction mechanisms of air pollutants. Various smog chamber experiments could be conducted using ambient air or purified air in this smog chamber. The smog chamber consisted of a housing, a Teflon bag, blacklights, injection ports, sampling ports, and utility facilities. The characteristics of light source, the wall losses of air pollutants, and the quality of purified air were experimentally investigated. The maximum NO₂ photolysis rate was 1.10min^(-1). In a 2.5-m³ Teflon bag, the wall losses of ambient O₃, NO, and NO₂were 1.2~2.4×10^(-3)min^(-1), 0.7~2.0×10^(-3)min^(-1), and 0.4-2.0×10^(-3)min^(-1), respectively. The wall loss of ambient particles ranging 0.05 to 0.2㎛ was 1.8~5.4×10^(-3)min^(-1), which was slightly higher than those of ambient gaseous species. The purified air supply system provided high quality of air with NO₂, < 1 ppb, and total hydrocarbons <5 ppb.

As a result of the enlarging pool of unvaccinated children and young adults, there has been an increase in measles in our countries. In these situation, it has been reported that measles associated pneumoinia is easily complicated with fatal respiratory failure, espycially in immunocompromised patients. Herein we report the case of lethal measles pneumonia after allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in adults proven by autopsy. Recently, one case of measles was encountered in 39-year-old female patients after allogenic bone marrow transplanted case (chronic myelogenous leukemia), who progressed into interstitial pneumonia pattern, despite treatment including antibiotics, immunoglobulin. The patient died of giant cell pneumonia compatible with that of measles which was comfirmed in the section of necropsy lung specimen. (Korean J Infect Dis 33:301∼309, 2001)

Packet-switched multistage interconnection networks(MINs) have been widely used for digital switching systems and super computers. In this paper we show that multiple packets in a switching element can move to the succeeding switching element in one network cycle by fully utilizing the cycle bandwidth. Only one packet movement was usually assumed in typical MINs. We present an analytical model for the MINs with the multiple packet movement scheme, and validate it by computer simulation. Comparisons with the traditional MINs of single packet movement reveal that the throughput is increased up to about 30% for practical size MINs. Similar result was also obtained for delays. The performance increase is more significant when the network traffic is nonuniform.

An effective allocation of requested number of processors to newly incoming tasks in two-dimensional (2D) mesh interconnection networks is very important for achieving the desired high performance and resource utilization. It also needs to guarantee the complete recognition of the free submeshes based on contiguous and available processors with minimum overhead. An efficient task allocation algorithm for 2D meshes is presented in this paper. By employing a new approach for searching the one-dimensional array, the proposed algorithm can find the available submesh without the scanning of the entire 2D array unlike earlier designs. As a result, the new algorithm can significantly reduce the task allocation time. Comprehensive computer simulation shows that the average allocation time and waiting delay are much smaller than earlier designs irrespective of the size of meshes. The hardware overhead is comparable to other algorithms.
Relationship between Changes in Fatigue and Exercise by Follow-Up Period

Background: Fatigue is one of the most common presenting symptoms in primary care in Korea. In this study, weaimed to determine the effect of exercise intervention on the severity of fatigue of unknown medical cause during aperiod of follow-up. Methods: We used the data collected from an outpatient fatigue clinic in Seoul National University Bundang Hospital. The study was conducted from March 3, 2010 to May 31, 2014. We measured the body mass index of each patientand evaluated variables including lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol consumption, and regular exercise),quality of sleep, anxiety, depression, stress severity, and fatigue severity using questionnaires. A total of 152 participantswho completed questionnaires to determine changes in fatigue severity and the effect of exercise for each periodwere evaluated. We used univariate analysis to verify possible factors related to fatigue and then conductedmultivariate analysis using these factors and the literature. Results: Of 130 patients with the complaint of chronic fatigue for over 6 months, over 90 percent reported moderateor severe fatigue on the Fatigue Severity Scale and Brief Fatigue Inventory questionnaires. The fatigue severityscores decreased and fatigue improved over time. The amount of exercise was increased in the first month, but decreasedafterwards. Conclusion: There was no significant relationship between changes in the amount of exercise and fatigue severityin each follow-up period. Randomized controlled trials and a cohort study with a more detailed exercise protocolin an outpatient setting are needed in the future.

In this paper, we design a reference profile to minimize the resonance vibration caused by fast seeking and settling control. Furthermore, we propose a new state space disturbance observer. The proposed disturbance observer augmented the integration of position compensates the offset of constant velocity region as well as the uncertain and unknown bias. The proposed control scheme is validated by the simulation results which show the improvement in performance of spiral servo track writing.

Panax Ginseng is a perennial medicinal plant originated from North-east asia. Because of its well-known tonic effects mainly from ginsenosides, various types of processed ginseng products have been distributed around the world. Here, we analyzed secondary metabolite profiling of adventitious roots of 5 korean ginseng cultivars, Chunpoong (CP), Sunhyang (SH), Gopoong (GO), Sunun (SU), and Cheongsun (CS). At the same time, the profiles of relative gene expressions related to ginsenoside biosynthesis pathway were compared among ginseng cultivars. Secondary metabolite profiles were revealed by UPLC/Q-TOF-MS from extracts of bioreactor derived adventitious roots of five ginseng cultivars. Using principal component analysis, secondary metabolite profiles of ginseng cultivars were categorized into three groups. Metabolites with high VIP values were annotated using known database and standards compounds. Relative gene expression of ginsenoside related gene were analyzed using realtime PCR. The three groups had distinct metabolite contents. Furthermore, gene expression profiles related to ginsenoside were also different, which might contribute diverse secondary metabolite composition of ginseng cultivars. Further integrated analysis would provide a relationship between genetic background of ginseng cultivars and secondary metabolite profiles.
