        곤충병원성 곰팡이를 이용한 모기 방제

        곤충이 곰팡이병에 감염되는 것을 흔히 볼 수 있고, 대부분은 이들에 대해 감수성을 나타내고 있다. 최근 살충제 저항성이 문제가 되면서 곤충병원성 곰팡이를 이용한 모기 방제에 대한 연구가 더욱 주목을 받고 있고, Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, Lagenidium giganteum와 같은 병원성 곰팡이를 모기 방제에 사용하기 위해 노력 중이다. 이 총설에서는 말라리아, 뎅기열, 사상충, 황열병 등을 옮기는 모기들의 방제에 사용되는 곤충병원성 곰팡이를 정리하고 이들의 활용방안을 논하였다. Insects are commonly infected by fungal diseases and are mostly susceptible to them. Increasing levels of insecticide resistance has recently become an issue for control programs; thus, research has focused on mosquito control using entomopathogenic fungi, including fungal pathogens such as Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, and Lagenidium giganteum. Review discusses entomopathogenic fungi related to control programs for mosquito transmitted vector-borne diseases such as dengue, filariasis, malaria, and yellow fever, and how to use entomopathogenic fungi for mosquito control.

        제주도, 완도 등 남부해안 지역의 표고 200~700m의 해변과 산록에서 자생하는 상록활엽교목으로 수고 15m, 직경 1m에 달하는 나무로 잎 표면은 녹색의 윤채가 있고, 뒷면은 연한 연갈색의 인모가 있어 관상학적으로 우수한 수종이다. 따라서 남해안 지역에서 가로수 및 정원수로 많은 사랑을 받고 있으며, 병해충에도 비교적 강한 수종으로 알려져 있다. 또한 가을과 겨울에는 혼자만이 꿋꿋이 녹색을 띠면서 적막한 해안도로의 거리를 조금이나마 부드럽고 훈훈하며 따뜻한 느낌을 주는 나무이다. 이러한 구실잣밤나무가 다량으로 식재된 까닭에 최근 구실잣밤나무를 가해하는 해충들이 많이 발생하여 방제에 도움을 주고자 주요해충에 대한 생태 및 방제법을 간략하게 소개하고자 한다.

        제주도 바지락에 기생하는 바지락포자충 , Perkinsus sp. 의 공간적 분포 및 조직학적 관찰

        N/A The apicomplexan parasite, Perkinsus sp., has been reported as a causative pathogen responsible for the mass mortality of the Manila clams, Ruditapes philippinarum in European countries as well as in Korea. Prevalence, infection intensity, histopathologic features and zoosporulation of Perkinsus found in the Manila clams distributed along the coast of Cheju Island were investigated in this study. Clams were collected from nine different beaches along the Cheju Island from May to July in 2000. Ray`s Fluid Thioglycollate Medium(RFTM) and Choi`s NaOH lysis methods were applied in the diagnosis and quantification of the Perkinsus infection. Prevalence, percentage infection of the parasite examined was 100% in Pyosun, 70% in Sungsan, 63% in Kumneong, 33% in Jongdalri, 21% in Iho, 17% in Moslpo, and 14% in Seogwipo. No Perkinsus was found in the clams collected from Kimnyong and Yongmeo-ri. Infection intensity as a number of Perkinsus cells per gram tissue wet weight(twwt), was 98,430 cells/g twwt in Pyosun, 78,553 cells/g twwt in Sungsan, 18,980 cells/g twwt in Kumneong, 4,290 cells/g twwt in Jongdalri, 1,527 cells/g twwt in Iho, 1,069 cells/g twwt in Moslpo, and 853 cells/g twwt in Seogwipo. Histological preparation of the infected tissues revealed trophozoites of Perkinsus sp., ranged from 5 to 10㎛, in diameter mostly distibuted in the digestive gland and the gill filaments. Zoospores were discharged from the hypnospore via discharging tube about 2 days after incubated in filtered and aerated seawater. In general, the prevalence and infection intensity of Perkinsus in Cheju Island were much lower than that reported from the western and southern coast of Korea.

        황다리독나방(나비목: 독나방과)의 생활사

        층층나무를 가해하는 단식성 해충인 황다리독나방(Ivela auripes)의 생활사를 실내 항온조건과 야외에서 조사하였다. 실험실 $24{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ 항온조건에서 1령 유충부터 번데기까지의 총 발육기간은$26.3{\pm}0.3$일이었고 성충의 수명은 $4.4{\pm}0.2$일이었다. 야외에서 채집된 번데기와 실험실 항온 조건에서 사육된 번데기의 발육 일수는 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. 실험실에서 사육된 암컷 한마리당 산란수는 야외에서 채집된 개체들의 산란수에 비해 낮았다. 포충망을 이용한 모니터닝이 유아등 모니터닝에 비해 효율적이었다. 황다리독나방의 성충우화시기는 6월 초순부터 하순이었으며 50% 누적 우화시기는 6월 17일이었다. Life history of Ivela auripes (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae), a pest of Cornus controversa, was investigated both in laboratory and field condition. At $24{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, developmental period from larvae to adult and adult life span was $26.3{\pm}0.3$ and $4.4{\pm}0.2$ days, respectively. Developmental period of pupae reared in the laboratory was not significantly different from those collected in the field. Female moths reared in the laboratory laid significantly less eggs than those emerged from the pupae collected in the field. Light trap catches was less effective than direct monitoring in the field. The two monitoring results showed that adult moth emerged from early June to late June, and the time of 50% cumulative emergence was 17 June.

        X-Band 영역에서의 세라믹/샌더스트-알루미노실리케이트 복합재의 초고온 전자파 흡수 거동

        This paper presents the development of thin and lightweight ultra-high temperature radar-absorbing ceramic composites composed of an aluminosilicate ceramic matrix-based geopolymer reinforced ceramic fiber and sendust magnetic nanoparticles in X-band frequency range (8.2~12.4 GHz). The dielectric properties with regard to complex permittivity of ceramic/sendust-aluminosilicate composites were proportional to the size of sendust magnetic nanoparticle with high magnetic characteristic properties as flake shape and its concentrations in the target frequency range. The characteristic microstructures, element composition, phase identification, and thermal stability were examined by SEM, EDS, VSM and TGA, respectively. The fabricated total thicknesses of the proposed single slab ultra-high temperature radar absorber correspond to 1.585 mm, respectively, exhibiting their excellent EM absorption performance. The behavior of ultra-high temperature EM wave absorption properties was verified to the developed free-space measurement system linked with high temperature furnace for X-band from 25℃ to 1,000℃.

      • Current Status of the Manila Clam ( Ruditapes philippinarum ) Aquaculture and Perkinsus Disease in Korea

        The Manila clam (=short neck clam) Ruditapes philippinarum is one of the most important marine shellfish resources supporting Korean fisheries industry. Perkinsus sp, a protozoan parasite new to Korean water is considered to be one of the agent responsible for the recent decline in clam landing observed in Korea. The present study reports life cycle, diagnostic methods and temporal distribution of Perkinsus sp. in Korean water. Ray`s RFTM and Choi`s NaOH techniques were successfully applied in the examination of Perkinsus infection among the clams. Two to three days after incubation in FTM, hypnospores were enlarged up to 70㎛ and stained as dark blue in Rugol`s iodine. Hypnospores incubated in aerated seawater discharged biflagellate zoospores two to three days after incubation at 25℃ Microscopic feature of trophozoites, and zoospores indicated that, Perkinsus sp found in Korea is very closely related to Perkinsus atlanticus found in the Mediterranean Sea. Infection intensity and prevalence of clams collected from twenty-two sampling sites along the west, south and east coasted revealed that almost all clams in the west and south coast infected with Perkinsus sp. while none of the clams in the east infected. It was believed that food level, temperature and salinity were deeply involved in spatial distribution of infection intensity and prevalence of Perkinsus sp.

        조기발병형 치주염의 균질성 표현형 소집단으로의 재분류

        The present study has been performed to revise the forms of early-onset periodontitis(EOP) into the homogeneous phenotypic subsets by cluster analysis using sets of clinical parameters. Retrospective radiographic interproximal alveolar bone levels were measured from cemento-enamel junctions on patients who have previously been diagnosed as having one of EOP during last 5 years. Mean interproximal bone levels(BL) and mesial bone level(Ratio) of 1st molars relative to mean interproximal bone levels of adjacent teeth(lst and 2nd premolars and canines)were calculated on each patient. Using parameters BL and Ratio(BR group) or BL, Ratio and age(BRA group), cluster analysis was performed to revise EOP patients into homogeneous subsets. At least three or four cluster could be homogeneously formed both in BR or BRA groups with statistically significant differences in parameters used among clusters as evidenced by MANOVA test. It was shown that the greater the BL, the smaller the Ratio was. It was also evident that mean interproximal bone levels were lowest aroud 1st molars and/or incisors regardless of cluster types. The results has provided cluster-based studies for identifying laboratory markers responsible for the development of EOP subsets.

        곰소만에 있어 바지락포자충 , Perkinsus sp. 의 출현에 관하여

        Mass mortality of the Manila clam, Ruditapes philippinarum has been reported all along the west and south coast of Korea for the past several years. As a pathogenic agent, Perkinsus sp., an endoparasitic protozoan has been identified in this study and believed to be responsible for the mass mortalities. Prevalence and infection intensity of Perkinsus sp. was investigated from a Manila clam population inhabiting at Komsoe Bay in the west coast where mass mortality of the clam has been reported. A total of 142 Manila clam, 50 oyster, Crassostrea gigas, 10 ark shell, Scapharca broughtonii, and 5 predatory gastropoda, Rapsna venosa were examined for the presence and the quantity of Perldnsus sp. Ray`s fluid thioglycollate medium method (FTM method) with modified Mackin`s infection intensity scale and Choi`s quantitative method were used in detecting and quantifying the parasite. All individuals of R. philippinarum examined in this study were infected with Perkinsus sp., indicaliag 100% prevalence white none of the oysters and the gastropods exhibited the parasite. Six to ten individual hypnospores of Perkinsus sp. were counted from the ark shells. The number of hypnospores in the clam tissues varied from 16,667 to 4,091,667, with a mean number of 1,077,628. Average infection intensity according to Mackin`s was 2.87, indicating a moderate infection. A negative correlation was observed between the number of Perkinsus sp. in the tissue and the condition index, a ratio tissue wet weight to shell cavity volume. The clam size and the infection intensity in terms of total number of parasites were positively correlated; the bigger clam, the heavier infection. Such high number of Perkinsus sp. counted in the clams could be enough to cause physiological disturbance of clams, such as retarded growth and reproduction. It is also believed that such a high infection leads mortality of the clam via continuous draining of the energy by metabolic activities and reproduction of the parasites. Correlation between the condition index and the infection intensity observed in this study supports this hypothesis.
