Bovine brucellosis, an important zoonosis, is diagnosed with serological tests such as the RBT, TAT using inactivated whole bacterial cells or bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) antigen in Korea. However, a strong cross-reaction between Brucella spp. and Yersinia enterocolitica O9 in these tests has seriously complicated the diagnosis of animal brucellosis because Brucella spp. shares common antigenic determinants with Y. enterocolitica O9 in the smooth LPS region. In this study, Brucella-field strains were isolated from Brucellapositive Hanwoo in Kimhae, Korea and outer membrane protein (omp) which has low cross-reaction with Y. enterocolitica O9 and high immunogenicity was extracted from the field strains Then we compared ELISA using the extract with RBT-TAT. Fifteen field strains were isolated from 47 supramammary-lymph nodes, which were collected from 18 farms. Isolation rate was 32%. Brucella-specific antigen was identified by performing SDS-PAGE or Western blotting on extracted omp with at 0.5% n-lauroylsarcosine One hundred and ninety-two serum-samples were used in the experiment: 142 negative and 50 positive samples verified by RBT-TAT. According to ELISA results, 127 samples were negative and 15 appeared positive among 142 negatives by RBT-TAT, while 42 samples were positive and 8 were negative among 50 positives by RBT-TAT. Therefore, it showed 89.4% of specificity and 84% of sensi-tivity. Through the current experiments, we could set up an ELISA based on the omp which has low cross-reaction and high immunogenicity and concluded that the omp could be a good material for accurate diagnosis of bovine brucellosis.
남조류 분해세균 HY0210-K1의 분리와 특성 및 Anabaena cylindrica 분해 활성

남조류의 대발생이 자주 발생하는 석촌호수와 팔당호로부터 시료를 채취하여 남조류 분해세균의 분리를 시도하였다. MDM 배지 상에서 Anabaena cylindrica를 숙주로 하는 over-layer method를 이용하여 Anabaena cylindrica lawn에서 남조류 분해 세균을 분리하여 HY0210-AK1으로 명명하였다. HY0210-AK1의 형태적, 생화학적 특성은 Rhizobium속과 유사하였으며, 16SrDNA 염기서열을 분석한 결과 Sphingobium herbicidovorans IFO 16415^(T)와 99.1%의 높은 유연관계를 보여 Sphingobium herbicidovorans HY0210-AK1를 Anabaena cylindrica NIES-19와 혼합 배양하였을 때, 접종 초기에는 정체기의 Sphingobium herbicidovorans HY0210-AK1를 접종한 처리구에서 가장 좋은 살조 효과를 나타냈으나, 접종 7일 이후에는 커다란 차이를 보이지 않는다. 또한 Sphingobium herbicidovorans HY0210-AK1는 1×10^(8) CFU ml^(-1)이상의 농도로 처리하였을 때, Anabaena cylindricaa NIES-19가 완전히 분해되었다. Sphingobium herbicidovorans HY0210-AK1와 Anabaena cylindrica NIES-19를 혼합 배양한 상동액을 여과하여 접종하였을 때는 남조류 성장 저해 효과가 나타나지 않았다. 따라서 Sphingobium herbicido-vorans HY0210-AK1는 Anabaena cylindrica NIES-19를 직접 공격하여분해하는 것으로 사료되다. Sphingobium herbicido-vorans HY0210-AK1은 Microcystis aeruginosa도 분해하였다. To isolate alga-lytic bacteria, a number of samples were collected from Lake of Sukchon and Pal`tang reservoir where cyanobacteria blooming occurred. HY0210-AK1, which exhibited high alga-lytic activity, was isolated using Anabaena cylindrica lawn. The morphological and biochemical characteristics of the isolate HYO210-AK1 were very similar to that of the genus Rhizobium. Taxonomic identification including 16s rDNA base sequencing and phylogenetic analysis indicated that the isolate HY0210-AK1 had a 99.1% homology in its 16s rDNA base sequence with Sphingobium herbicidovorans. A. cylindrica NIES- 19 was susceptible to the alga-lytic bacterial attack. The growth-inhibiting effect of the bacterium was not different on A. cylindrica NIES- 19 when Sphingobium herbicidovorans HYO210-AK1 was in the lag, exponential, and stationary growth phase, although the alga-lytic effect of S. herbici-dovorans HYO210-AK1 that in stationary growth phase was somewhat pronounced at the first time of inoculation. When S. herbicidovorans HYO210-AK1 was inoculated with 1 ×10^(8) CFU ml^(-l) together with A. cylindrica NIES-19, the bacterium proliferated and caused algal lysis. A. cylindrica NIES-19 died when S. herbicidovorans HY0210-AK1 was added to the algal culture but not when only the filtrates from the bacterial culture was added. This suggests that extracellular substances are not responsible for inhibition of A. cylindrica NIES-19 and that algal lysis largely attributed to direct interaction between S. herbicidovorans HYO210-AK1 and A. cylindrica NIES- 19. The alga-lytic bacterium HYO210-AK1 caused cell lysis and death of three strain of Micro- cystis aeruginosa, but revealed no alga-lytic effects on the Stephanodiscus hantzschii.

Rectus sheath hematoma (RSH) is a rare condition that`s caused by a sudden disruption of the deep epigastric vessels or direct damage to the rectus abdominis muscle. This condition is associated with old age, childbirth, abdominal surgery, severe cough, severe sneezing, anticoagulation therapy and/or coagulation disorders. RSH is characterized by abdominal pain and an abdominal mass, so that this is often misdiagnosed as a surgical condition such as appendicitis, intraabdominal abscess, torsion of the ovary and ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm; this can lead to unnecessary surgery. Thus, we have to be cautious not to miss RSH when a patient with predisposing factors is suffered from abdominal pain and an abdominal mass. We report here on a case of rectus sheath hematoma that was induced by severe cough in a patient who was taking warfarin. (Tuberc Respir Dis 2008;65: 212-215)
