To evaluate the modifying effect of Kwao Kreu, Pueraria mirifica (PM) well-known as a rejuvenating folk medicine from Thailand, peri- and post-natal studies were carried out in rats. PM extract was administered to pregnant Sprague Dawley (SD) rats by oral gavage from gestation 6 (GD 6) to postnatal day 21 (PND 21). The amount of administered in this study was 0.042, 0.42 and 4.2 mg/kg/day, respectively. There were no treatment related changes of dams in deaths, clinical signs, and parturition. Treatment related changes in body weight, food consumption and lactation of dams were not observed. F1 fetuses in external abnormality, physical development, reflex/sensory functions and behavioral development were not found. No adults and F1 fetuses in organ weight was found with the exception of vagina and uterus of F1 fetuses. The results showed that PM extract, up to 4.2 mg, had no adverse effects on the peri- and post-natal development of rats. Therefore, PM extract has no adverse effects on peri- and post-natal development of rats.
소믈리에 서비스품질이 가격공정성, 가치지각, 재구매의도에 미치는 영향

본 연구는 기존 와인관련 연구에서 거의 활용하지 않은 가격공정성이라는 변수를 포함하여 소믈리에 서비스품질이 가격공정성, 가치지각과 재구매의도에 미치는영향을 살펴보기 위하여 연구모델을 설계하였고, 와인 소비자의 관여도를 조절변 수로 하여 이들의 관련성을 검증하기 위하여 실증분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과와 그 의의를 정리하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 소믈리에 서비스품질은 가격공정성과 가치지각에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 가 격공정성은 가치지각과 재구매의도에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미친다고 나타났다. 셋째, 가치지각은 재구매의도에 유의한 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 관여도는 소믈리에 서비스품질과 가격공정성 간의 관계를 조절하는 것으로 분석되었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the structural relation among service quality of sommelier, price fairness, perceived value, and repurchasing intention and the moderation effect of involvement on the relationship between service quality of sommelier and price fairness. The findings are as follows. First, service quality of sommelier proved to positively effect on price fairness and perceived values. Secondly, the price fairness proved to positively effect on perceived values and repurchasing intention. Thirdly, perceived values proved to positively effect on repurchasing intention. Finally, as the involvement became lower, the level of causality between service quality of sommelier and price fairness also became higher. Thus, the moderating effect of involvement was verified.

To identify a solution for the restricted availability of healthy lungs and the high risk of immune rejections following organ transplantation, tissue engineering techniques for culturing lungs have been studied by many research groups. The most promising method for culturing lungs is the utilization of a bio-scaffold that was prepared using harvested organs from human donors or other animals by removing their original cells. In this study, a pulsatile perfusion pump was used to alleviate the cell removal effect with the high fluid-dynamic power of the perfusion stream during the decellularization process, while other conventional studies focused on chemical methods to identify efficient detergents. The purpose of this study was to analyze the developed device by using energy equivalent pressure (EEP), which is an indicator of pulsatility, to understand the characteristics of pulsatile energy transmitted according to the load size by using the artificial model and compare it with the measured EEP. The pulsatility of the device can be estimated with the concept of fluid-dynamic energy during a particular constant time period or fluid-dynamic power represented as EEP and EEP increment. Because the measured EEP of perfusion flow during decellularization can be changed by the amount of fluid leakage and the degree of clogging in the capillary vessels, EEP should be measured to determine whether the decellularization is progressing without problems. The decrement of EEP caused by the high perfusion resistance was observed from some experimental results that were obtained with artificial models. EEP can be used to monitor the decellularization process after analyzing the varying EEP according to the amount of load. It was confirmed that the EEP was maintained at a high level in the experiment using the harvested lungs from 12-13-week-old rats. In addition, it was confirmed that the cell removal time was faster than when continuous perfusion was performed. In this study, pulsatile power delivered to the lungs was measured to monitor the process of cell removal, and it serve as the evidence for efficient decellularization.

Objectives: This study investigated the effect of combined Korean medical treatment and antibiotics on a patient diagnosed with nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease. Methods: The patient had been treated with antibiotics since July 2020 concurrently with Maekmoondong-tang, Banhasasim-tang, Gwakhyangjunggi-san and Bojungikgi-tang. The improvement of symptoms was evaluated using scores for the numerical rating scale (NRS), the Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnea scale, C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and computed tomography (CT). Results: Following treatment, the NRS, MRC dyspnea scale and CT images significantly improved. Also, CRP levels remained in the normal range during treatment. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medical treatment combined with antibiotics could be effective for treating patients with nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease.
랫드와 비글에서 GC-100X 세정제의 독성에 대한 연구

Because cleaning products are part of our everyday lives, it is essential that they should not present significant risks to health. However, many petrochemicals in most soaps and detergents can be absorbed through the scalp and skin and, over time, accumulate in the organs and tissues. This accumulation may result in brain, nerve, and liver damage. Therefore, it is interested in developing non-harmful detergent. According to Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, GC-100X may be non-harmful and non-corrosive alkaline ionic water (pH 12). It is composed of hydroxyl radicals and supplemented with xylitol. To evaluate influence of GC-100X on rats and beagles, GC-100X was diluted with distilled water (25%, 50%, and 100% solution respectively). Each of diluted GC-100X was daily treated per oral. In body weight analysis, urinary analysis, ophthalmological test and autopsy, we did not find any significance, but in serum biochemical analysis and hematological analysis, we found some significances in middle dose group compared with control group. These significances in serum biochemical analysis and hematological analysis may be not induced by GC-100X, because it was not found to be significant from control group in histopathological examination. Thus, it is concluded that NOEL(No Observed Effect Level) of GC-100X may be higher than all treatment doses used in this study, and GC-100X may be a non-toxic detergent.

The antigenicity of nonspecific immunostimulator BARODON$^{(R)}$, a newly developed drug, was investigated by tests for passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) and active systemic anaphylaxis (ASA) in mice and guinea pigs. In ASA test using guinea pigs, there were no significant clinical symptoms in all individuals of low(0.3%) and high(3%) dose of both groups treated with only BARODON$^{(R)}$ and cotreated with BARODON$^{(R)}$ and adjuvant group. In PCA test, blue spots of Evan's were observed from $2^6$ to $2^{10}$ in homologous group and from $2^2{\sim}2^5$ dilution rate in heterologous group of BSA treated positive control group. However, intradermal sensitization with antiserum obtained from low (0.3%) and high (3%) dose of BARODON$^{(R)}$ only treatment group and treated-with-adjuvant group, followed by intravenous injection of respective antigen and Evan's blue mixture (1:1) showed no blue spot observed. In conclusion, BARODON$^{(R)}$, as showed in ASA and PCA test, did not cause anaphylatic shock when treated 3 and 10 times higher than clinically intended dose, nor induce IgE, so that might not have antigenic properties in mice and guinea pigs.

The inhibitory activity against bisphenol-A (BPA), one of well-known endocrine disrupters was examined with the water extracts prepared from the Stem Bark of Syringa velutina (SBS). In this study, we have investigated the effect of SBS on the toxicity caused by BPA in human breast cancer cell line, MCF-7 cells and immature Sprague-Dawley rats. In the estrogen receptor-mediated proliferation assay using MCF-7 cells, BPA (16 ng/ml) induced the cell proliferation, but the water extract of SBS inhibited BPA-induced cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. These results are associated with PARP degradation and specific cleavage of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 of apoptotic regulatory factors. Additionally, the BPA (400 mg/100 g) significantly induced the increase of the uterine and virginal weights, while SBS (50 mg/100 g) showed the inhibitory action against BPA, i.e. caused the increase of estrogen-related organ weights in immature rat uterotrophic assay. Taken together, the present data suggest that SBS may have anti-toxicity activities against BPA in vitro and in vivo systems. SBS may be capable of inhibiting adverse effects of BPA such as reproductive disorder.

[ $BARODON^{(R)}$ ] is a multi-purpose, high functional alkali solution made by mixing and liquid-ionizing silicon, calcium, sodium, borax, organic carbon chemicals and silver. In this study, we have investigated the apoptotic potential and mechanistic insights of $BARODON^{(R)}$ in human gastric cancer cell line (AGS cells). In MTT assay, $BARODON^{(R)}$ reduced cell viability in AGS cells. Morphological features of apoptosis with marked cytoplasmic vacuolation and appearance of apoptotic peaks in flow cytometry were observed in AGS cells with$BARODON^{(R)}$ treatment. In addition, $BARODON^{(R)}$ induced apoptosis of stomach cancer cell is related to bax up-regulation, caspase 7 protease activation and subsequent cleavage of poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP). These results suggest that BARODON can induce the apoptosis of AGS cells through modulation of bcl-2 family and the activation of intrinsic caspase cascades, indicating that it is potentially useful as a anti-cancer agent.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by recurring symptoms, airflow obstruction, and bronchial hyper-responsiveness. The onset of asthma for most patients begins early in life, and current asthma treatment with anti-inflammatory agents can have adverse effects, eventually leading to impaired quality of life. In the pathogenesis of asthma, macrophages and basophils play a vital role during progression. Macrophages not only induce inflammation by secreting inflammatory cytokines but also promote DNA damage and mucus production through nitric oxide (NO) production. Basophils enhance eosinophil recruitment and aggravate asthma through the FcεRIα receptor with high affinity for histamine and IgE. Therefore, in this study, we investigated whether the activation of macrophages and basophils is suppressed by the individual extracts of 28 natural products. RAW 264.7 cells (mouse macrophages) were treated with the natural products in LPS, and 4 natural product extracts resulted in decreased NO production. In β-hexosaminidase assay using RBL-2H3 cells (rat basophils), 19 natural product extracts decreased β-hexosaminidase production. In NO production and β-hexosaminidase assay using macrophages and basophils, 3 natural product extracts (Plantago asiatica, Centella asiatica, and Perilla frutescens var. japonica) significantly inhibited NO production and β-hexosaminidase release. Overall, we examined the inhibitory effects of 28 natural product extracts on macrophage and basophil activity, and the findings demonstrated the potential of natural product extracts for treating asthma and macrophage- and basophil-related diseases.

Concern that some chemicals in our environment may affect human health by disrupting<br/> normal endocrine function has prompted a research on interactions of environmental contaminants<br/> with steroid hormone receptor. Toxaphene and chlordane are among the 12 persistent organic<br/> pollutants identified by the United Nations Environment Programme as requiring urgent attention. We<br/> compared the estrogenic activity of two organochlorine pesticides, toxaphene and chlordane, at estrogen<br/> receptor α (ERα) and estrogen receptor β (ERβ). Human hepatoma cells (HepG2) were transiently<br/> transfected with rat ERα or ERβ plus an estrogen-responsive complement C3-luciferase (C3-<br/> Luc) reporter gene. After transfection, cells were treated with various concentrations of toxaphene and<br/> chlordane to investigate agonism or antagonism of these chemicals. Both toxaphene and chlordane<br/> were potent agonists in HepG2 cells for ERα. In contrast, these chemicals had a minimal agonist<br/> activity with ERβ and almost abolished 17β-estradiol-induced ERβ-mediated activity. Therefore, toxaphene<br/> and chlordane behaved as an ERα agonist and an ERβ antagonist with estrogen-responsive<br/> reporter plasmid C3-Luc, and exposure to these organochlorine pesticides could have a crictical effect<br/> on normal endocrine function.
