      • Effect of Moisture Contents in the Mechanical Strength of Corn Stalk

        Corn stalks used as a biomass have some physical characteristics that may influence the working efficiency of the cutting machine used for reducing the size. This may as well affect the over all cost of the biomass production. For instance, the cutting force required to cut the biomass to shorten the sizes may be affected by the moisture content and circumferential size of the biomass as the moisture content affect the mechanical strength of corn stalk. The aim of this research is to analyze the effects of moisture content of corn stalk on its characteristics (physical and mechanical). The moisture content, % (wet base) and the mechanical properties of the corn stalk were determined using a weighing machine and dry oven. The mechanical strength (stress and strain) required to cut or break the corn stalk was determined using an EZ 632 UMT machine. The mechanical strength and moisture content of the corn stalk were marked against the cutting depth to establish the relationship between these variables. Six different moisture content (23.4%, 36.8%, 39.3%, 45.0%, 52.1% and 70.3%) were used and a Baler machine with a cutting system oriented at 45° angle to the horizontal was used to make a piece of corn stalk. The tensional strength were higher than the compressional strength in all moisture content except in the 23.4% moisture content. The tensional strength is increasing with the increase of moisture content, where as, the compression strength did not follow the same pattern of tensional strength. The 70.29% moisture content corn stalks had the highest tensional strength (489N) with 23.4% moisture content recording the lowest (13.8 N). The compressional strength varied with increasing moisture content. It was observed that the tensional force was highly correlated to the moisture content with correlation coefficient r = 0.98 and R2 value of 0.96.

        찰벼 수분함량에 따른 외관 및 취반 특성 변이

        Variations among 15 major waxy cultivars in terms of milling appearance and cooking characteristics at different moisture contents were investigated. Hardness of milled rice kernels increased and 1000-grain weights decreased with the reduction of moisture content. The milled rice kernels showed about two-fold hardness gap between 12 and 16% moisture contents. The 1000-grain weights revealed 6% reduction from 21.4 g to 20.2 g at 16% and 12% moisture contents, respectively. The whiteness of waxy rice which indicated varietal variation also increased with decrease of moisture contents. In most cultivars, the whiteness of waxy rice peaked and stabilized at around 14% moisture content. In milling properties, brown/rough rice ratios were not affected by moisture content, however, milled/brown rice ratios increased with the decrease of moisture contents between 14 - 16%. This implied that the proper moisture content for milling rate of waxy rice is lower than that of non-waxy rice. The chalkiness expression of milled waxy rice varied directly with moisture contents. At 16% moisture content, the rates of translucent and semi-translucent kernels like non-waxy rice were 49.0 - 84.4% while at 14% moisture content, the rates of chalky rice were 88.7 - 99.9%. In terms of cooking properties of milled waxy rice with different moisture contents, lower moisture contents (12 - 13%) were related with higher water absorption rates. The higher volume expansion of cooked milled rice and more soluble solid after cooking in most cultivars showed the possibility of low palatability of cooked waxy rice with lower moisture contents (below 13%).

        To understand day-to-day fluctuations in soil moisture content in Seoul, I simulated daily soil moisture content from 1908 to 2009 using long-term climatic precipitation and temperature data collected at the Surface Synoptic Meteorological Station in Seoul for the last 98 years with a hydrological simulation model, BROOK. The output data set from the BROOK model allowed me to examine day-to-day fluctuations and the severity and duration of droughts in the Seoul area. Although the soil moisture content is highly dependent on the occurrence of precipitation, the pattern of changes in daily soil moisture content was clearly quite different from that of precipitation. Generally, there were several phases in the dynamics of daily soil moisture content. The period from mid-May to late June can be categorized as the initial period of decreasing soil moisture content. With the initiation of the monsoon season in late June, soil moisture content sharply increases until mid-July. From the termination of the rainy season in mid-July, daily soil moisture content decreases again. Highly stochastic events of typhoons from late June to October bring large amount of rain to the Korean peninsula, culminating in late August, and increase the soil moisture content again from late August to early September. From early September until early October, another sharp decrease in soil moisture content was observed. The period from early October to mid-May of the next year can be categorized as a recharging period when soil moisture content shows an increasing trend. It is interesting to note that no statistically significant increase in mean annual soil moisture content in Seoul, Korea was observed over the last 98 years. By simulating daily soil moisture content, I was also able to reconstruct drought phenomena to understand the severity and duration of droughts in Seoul area. During the period from 1908 to 2009, droughts in the years 1913, 1979, 1939, and 2006 were categorized as 'severe' and those in 1988 and 1982 were categorized as 'extreme'. This information provides ecologists with further potential to interpret natural phenomenon, including tree growth and the decline of tree species in Korea.

        수분 함량이 이탈리안 라이그라스 큐브의 물리적 및 화학적 성상에 미치는 영향

        본 시험은 가공 조사료 이용확대를 위해 압축 방법과 수분 함량이 이탈리안 라이그라스 큐브의 물리적 및 화학적 성상에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 수행되었다. 이탈리안 라이그라스 큐브 제작을 위해 평판 다이형 큐브 기계를 직접 제작하였으며 이탈리안 라이그라스의 수분 함량을 15, 20, 25 및 35%로 조절하여 큐브를 제조하여 품질을 조사하였다. 수분 함량이 15~20%에서는 간헐적인 균열이 일어났으며 가루 발생량도 10~16%로 다른 처리보다 낮게 나타났다. 경도에 있어서도 15% 수분 함량에서 159 kg/f로 가장 높게 나타났으며 30% 수분 함량에서는 70 kg/f로 가장 낮았다. 그러나 전기 부하량과 큐브의 표면 온도는 수분 함량이 낮은 곳에서 더 높게 나타났다. 수분 함량에 따른 큐브의 일반 조성분은 조제전에 비하여 조단백질과 조지방 함량은 높아졌으며 조섬유, ADF, NDF 함량은 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 조회분 함량은 수분 함량 30%를 제외하고는 큐브 조제 전후간에 차이를 보이지는 않았다. 수분 함량에 있어서는 수분이 많아질수록 조단백질 함량이 증가되는 경향을 보였으며 조섬유, 조회분 함량은 처리간에 차이가 나타나지 않았다. NDF 및 ADF 함량은 30% 수분 함량에서 가장 낮게 나타났다. 이상의 결과를 종합하여 볼 때 이탈리안 라이그라스 큐브 조제를 위한 적정 수분함량은 15~20% 내외로 추정되며 이로 인해 사료적 가치가 향상되는 것으로 나타났다. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of moisture content on the physical and chemical characteristics of Italian ryegrass cube. Cube quality according to moisture contents (15, 20, 25, and 30%) was determined. Cubes made with 15 to 20% moisture showed a little cracks. But, the amount of powder generate from these cubes were lower by 10 to 16% compared to other cubes made with 25 to 30% moisture contents. The highest hardness at 159 kg/f was obtained when the cube was made with 15% moisture content and the lowest was 70 kg/f when the cube was made with 30% moisture content. The electrical loading and surface temperature were increased when moisture content was decreased. The chemical compositions of cube were differ from those of raw materials. Crude protein (CP) and ether extract (EE) contents were increased after cubing works. However, crude fiber (CF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) contents were decreased after cubing. The crude ash content was not significantly (p > 0.05) different between raw material and cube. Higher moisture content resulted in higher crude protein content. However, crude fiber and crude ash content were not significantly (p > 0.05) different between each other. The contents of ADF and NDF were the lowest in cubes made with 30% moisture content. Our results suggest that the proper moisture content of Italian ryegrass cubing is recommended to be 15 to 20% and that cubing works should help increase forage quality.

The moisture content, % (wet base) and the mechanical properties of the corn stalk were determined using a weighing machine and dry oven. The mechanical strength (stress and strain) required to cut or break the corn stalk was determined using an EZ 632 UMT machine. The mechanical strength and moisture content of the corn stalk were marked against the cutting depth to establish the relationship between these variables. Six different moisture content (23.4%, 36.8%, 39.3%, 45.0%, 52.1% and 70.3%) were used. A Baler machine with a cutting system oriented at 45° angle to the horizontal was used to cut the corn stalks at cross- section perpendicular to the cutters. The machine was operated at three rotor speeds; 1200 rpm, 1773 rpm and 2485 rpm. The tensional strength were higher than the compressional strength in all moisture content except in the 23.4% moisture content. The highest cutting length was achieved in the high moisture content above 60%. The 70.29% moisture content corn stalks had the highest tensional strength (334.6 N) with 23.4% moisture content recording the lowest (13.8 N). The compressional strength varied with increasing moisture content. It was observed that the tensional force was highly correlated to the moisture content with correlation coefficient r = 0.98 and R<sup>2</sup> value of 0.96.

        Germinability of Film-Coated Snap Bean Seed as Affected by Oxygen Diffusion Rate under Different Soil Moisture Contents

        The film coated snap bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) seeds with five different coating materials treated with 3% increase in seed weight were planted at sandy loam soil controlled moisture content of 18, 19, 20 and 21 %. The oxygen diffusion rate (ODR) was calculated from the different moisture content soil. The number of normal seedlings, seedling vigor, and seedling capability in field (seed vigor x dry matter weight) were observed at 9 days after planting and compared to the changes of ODR. The germination rate and ODR were sharply decreased simultaneously in the seeds planted at 21 % soil moisture content. Seedling emergence did not occur at all as the soil moisture content increased above 22 %. Hence this value should be considered as the threshold of soil moisture content for seedling emergence. An ODR value under 20% did not influence the percent emergence significantly. The certain difference observing in the emergence at the same ODR was not related clearly to the condition of soil. So it can be assumed that the limit of soil moisture content for the emergence of snap bean was approximately 20%. The value of 18% soil moisture content may be considered as the optimum for snap bean emergence. There was close relationship between the mean value of ODR in different soil moisture contents and the emergence. The germination rates of the seeds coated with the different materials were quite different when the seeds were planted at 21 % soil moisture. Dry weight of the seedlings from film coated seeds was decreased slightly, but the germination rates were not much different from the non-treated control under relatively higher soil moisture content (21 %). Major factor lowering emergence rate was oxygen stress while film coating act as a minor constraint for snap bean sown in excess soil moisture condition.

        글루텐 함량과 수분 함량이 압출성형 분리대두단백의 조직화에 미치는 영향

        글루텐 함량과 수분 함량이 분리대두단백의 조직화 및 물리적 특성에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 압출성형 공정변수는 수분 함량에 따른 물리적 특성을 알아보기 위해 사출구 온도 140°C, 스크루 회전속도 250 rpm으로 고정시키고 분리대두단백에 첨가된 글루텐의 배합비는 각각 20, 40, 60%로, 수분 함량은 45, 50, 55%로 조절하였다. 글루텐 함량이 20에서 60%로 증가함에 따라 비기계적 에너지 투입량은 감소하였다. 압출성형물의 수분 흡수율은 글루텐 함량이 20에서 60%로 증가함에 따라, 수분 함량이 55에서 45%로 감소함에 따라 감소하였다. 글루텐 함량이 증가할 때 명도(L)와 황색도(b)는 증가하는 경향을 보였으며 적색도(a)는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 총색도차는 글루텐 함량과 수분 함량이 낮을 때 가장 높은 수치를 나타냈다. 조직잔사지수는 글루텐 함량이 60%, 수분 함량 45%에서 71.15±0.93%로 가장 높은 값을 보였다. 압출성형물의 수분 함량에 따라 NSI 값은 유의적 차이가 없었으며, 수용성 질소지수는 글루텐 함량 60%, 수분 함량 55%에서 22.46±1.11%로 가장 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 이러한 결과로 수분 함량을 줄이고 글루텐의 함량을 늘리는 방법이 인조육 제조 시 조직화를 촉진하는 방법으로 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of gluten and moisture contents on the physical properties of extruded soy protein isolate. Extrusion conditions included various moisture (45, 50, and 55%) and gluten contents (20, 40, and 60%) at a fixed screw speed and die temperature of 250 rpm and 140°C, respectively. Specific mechanical energy input decreased as gluten content increased from 20 to 60%. Hydration ratio was highest (293.23±13.68%) at gluten and moisture contents of 20 and 55%, respectively. Lightness and yellowness increased as gluten content increased from 20 to 60% while redness decreased as gluten content increased. Color difference was the highest at low gluten and moisture contents. Integrity index was the highest (71.15±0.93%) at gluten and moisture contents of 60 and 45%, respectively. Nitrogen solubility index was not significantly affected by moisture content and was lowest (22.46±1.11%) at gluten and moisture contents of 60 and 55%, respectively. In conclusion, higher gluten and lower moisture contents were effective for texturization of soy protein isolate.

        벼 수확 후 수분함량별 건조지연에 따른 쌀 품위 및 화학성

        쌀 품질의 고급화를 위한 벼 수확 후 관리기술체계를 확립하기 위하여 벼 수확을 대형포대 및 콤바인포대로 수확한 후 수분함량 별 야적기간 연장에 따른 쌀 품위 및 품질변화에 미치는 영향을 조사였다. 수확당일 수확시간에 따른 정조의 수분함량은 $23.7{\sim}28.8%$로 수확시간이 늦어질수록 낮았고, 수확 후 건조지연에 따른 정조의 외관변화는 저장포대가 대형인 경우 3일째 정조의 색깔이 변하고 악취가 심하게 발생하였으며 콤바인포대는 4일째부터 색깔이 변하고 악취가 발생하였다. 포대내부의 온도변화는 대형포대는 저장기간이 길어질수록 그리고 수분함량이 높을수록 증가되는 폭이 컸으나 콤바인포대는 수확당시 수분함량에 따라 일정한 비율로 증가되는 경향이었다. 대형포대에 저장된 정조의 수분함량은 저장 2일째부터 증가되었고 수분함량이 높을수록 증가폭이 컸으나 콤바인포대의 경우는 수확 시 수분함량이 적은 경우 약간 감소하는 경향이고 높은 경우는 약간 증가되는 경향이었다. 수확 후 건조가 지연될수록 단백질, 아밀로스함량은 차이가 없으나 지방산은 증가되었고 대형포대가 콤바인포대에 저장된 정조보다 지방산 증가폭이 컸으며 수확 후 건조지연일수나 벼 수확 시 수분함량이 높을수록 현미의 완전미율은 감소되고 청미와 피해립율이 증가되었으며 백미품위 역시 비슷한 경향이었다. 따라서 미질저하를 최소화 할 수 있는 포대종류별 건조지연 한계기는 대형포대가 벼 수확 후 $1{\sim}2$일 이내, 콤바인포대는 $2{\sim}3$일 이내로 추정되었다. This study was conducted to establish the post-harvest management system in rice. Harvested hulled rice was gathered into large-scale bag and combine bag, in which the rice quality and the influence on quality change were investigated on various storage periods and moisture contents. Moisture content of hulled rice ranged from 23.7% to 28.8% on different harvest times, which grew lower as harvesting time was delayed. When desiccation was retarded hulled rice in large scale bag was changed in color and emitted an of offensive odor in 3 days and that in combine bag showed similar symptom in 4 days. Inner temperature in large scale bag was changed a lot when the storage period was prolonged and also the moisture content was higher while that in combine bag increased regularly corresponding to the moisture content at the time of harvest. Moisture content of hulled rice stored in large-scale bag increased 2 days after harvest and the more moisture content showed the more increased tendency, while in the case of combine bag the moisture content was not changed much whether the hulled rice contained low or high moisture content in harvesting. As desiccation was delayed fatty acid increased much more in large-scale bag than in combine bag even though protein and amylose contentwere not changed. As desiccation was delayed more and hulled rice contained moisture more in harvesting head rice ratio of brown rice decreased and green-kerneled rice and damaged grain ratio increased and quality of milled rice also became deteriorated. As a result, desiccation day to minimize the deterioration of rice quality was estimated 1-2 days in large scale bag and 2-3 days in combine bag after harvesting.

        히알루론산 함량에 따른 유분・수분 변화 및 만족도 조사

        Hyaluronic acid is natural polysaccharide existing around skin or cartilage, and is known as a moisturizing factor. It is expected that hyaluronic acid cosmetics market will continue to grow in the future, as its use and demand increases, like medical supplies and health food besides cosmetics containing hyaluronic acid. However, There are few present studies on content in cosmetics containing hyaluronic acid. The purpose of this study was to evaluate satisfaction and examine what effect was produced on sebum and moisture in skin after applying to cosmetics the hyaluronic acid helpful in maintaining moisture in skin at 5%, 20% and 50% concentration. For 71 days, a clinical trial in a total 39 persons living in the national capital region was carried out. And sebum and moisture was measured through skin diagnosis system A-ONE TAB before trial and each day when clinical trial was conducted for hyaluronic acid content group. Besides, this study was to examine subjects' general characteristics, eating habits, and living habits, and satisfaction after the clinical trial. This study analyzed a difference according to the time to measure the skin condition among hyaluronic acid content groups by utilizing statistical package program SPSS v. 21.0 through data coding and data cleaning process. There was no statistically significant difference in hyaluronic acid content according to any of demographic characteristics, eating habits and living habits among groups (p>.05). With regard to hyaluronic acid content, there was no statistically significant difference in moisture and sebum prior to clinical trial in T zone and U zone among groups (p>.05). A change of moisture in T zone among groups according to hyaluronic acid content showed statistically significant difference in the 2nd week (F =3.636, p<.05). And the highest level was shown in 50%(44.15±2.672), being followed by 20%(43.15±2.340), and 5%(41.62±2.219). Accordingly, it was shown that, as hyaluronic acid content relatively increased, the moisture in T zone increased. In the results of analyzing the change of moisture in U zone, the change of sebum in T zone and U zone by group according to hyaluronic acid content, no statistically significant difference was shown in sebum level of T zone by group(p>.05). For analyzing the subjective satisfaction after clinical trial among groups according to hyaluronic acid content, satisfaction score was the highest in 'skin moistness' (4.38±0.650) for 5% group, 'skin moistness' (4.69±0.480) for 20% group and 'skin texture smoothness' (4.54±0.519) for 50% group. And no statistically significant difference was shown in each subjective satisfaction by group according to hyaluronic acid content(p>.05). It was thought that the results of skin condition and subjective satisfaction survey according to hyaluronic acid content would be baseline data for developing cosmetics containing the hyaluronic acid and marketing a skin moisturizer.
