Abstract Objectives The purpose of this study was to evaluate hypertension with simple anthropometry data related to obesity in Korean adults and identify whether age specific waist circumference (WC) may be a useful screening tool for determining hypertension. Methods Subjects (n = 571) were classified into 3 groups by age; young (18–39 years), middle aged (40–64 years), and old aged (≥ 65 years). Correlations between demographic and anthropometric parameters and hypertension were performed using Spearman correlation analysis. Logistic regression analysis and ROC (receiver operating characteristics) curves were also analyzed for correlations with hypertension. Results Spearman correlation analyses, age, gender, WC, and body mass index were positively correlated with hypertension. When logistic regression analysis was performed, increased age and increased WC was associated with a higher incidence of hypertension, although gender and body mass index were not significantly related to hypertension. In ROC analysis of WC for hypertension demonstrated that patients in the old age group showed higher WC cutoff value than patients in the young and middle aged groups. Conclusion The findings of this study demonstrate that WC may be a useful predictor of hypertension incidence among demographic and anthropometric factors in Korean adults. In addition, WC in the young population was more sensitive to the incidence of hypertension than in the elderly population.

This Study is focused on examining 'the Effects of Motor Learning'. for which ' the relative frequence of knowledge of results' were supplied at the distribution ratio of 100%, 50%, 20%, and 10% through the 60 trials of practical levels. The subjects of this study are 32 boy-students of high school. eight of whom to every four group are arranged according to the 'stratified sampling'. 'Knowledge of Results'(KR) was supplied quantitatively and the post-KR delay interval was 10 seconds. The tasks that were chosen in this study were Hop. Step. and Jump Test. The 5 times of 'Retention Test' were practiced in this study with 20 minutes' interval of rest time after the 60 times of practical trial. The result of this study is as followings: 1. In the Practical Level. there is no significant difference among the groups of 100%, 50%, 20%, and 10% of KR. 2.But in the 'Retention Test. the group of 100% of KR is superior to the other groups of 50%, 20%, and 10% of KR, This proves the true state of 'Effects of Motor Learning'

Experiments were carried out to investigate the effects of lead exposure on survival, growth and oxygen consumption of juvenile oliver flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. Survival rate of the oliver flounder was significantly affected above 150㎍/L. Growth of the olive flounder exposed to ≥ 150 ㎍/L of lead concentration was significantly lower than that of fish reared in normal condition. Metabolic rate of fish exposed to lead ≥ 80 ㎍/L concentration was significantly reduced with increasing lead concentration than that in normal condition. This study revealed that high lead concentration (≥ 80 ㎍/L) reduced growth and metabolic rates of juvenile olive flounder suggesting potential influence of lead on the natural mortality of olive flounder in the coastal areas.

The field emission characteristics was studied by simulation for an under-gate structure with a ring-shaped CNT emitter. The electric field strength was sharply peaked along the inner rim of the CNT emitter. For positive gate voltages the electron emission was concentrated there. With an assumed field enhancement factor of 1000, the operating voltage was about 7 V, only 1/10 of those of other reported structures. The effects of the gate bias polarity on the electron emission and the electron trajectories were discussed.

This study investigated the efficiency of industrial waste treatment. For this purpose. "A" treatment plant which treats industrial wastes of CN. Cr and alkali was selected. Of these wastes, this study focused on treatment of Cr waste. Results of this study showed that "A" plant did not need to raise the pH to 10.5 to precipitate Cr(OH)₃. There was no difference in Cr concentration while the pH of the waste was maintained to 7~9 using NaOH. The use of Ca(OH)₂ to aid coagulation was not justified. lt failed to improve the effluent quality, but generated more sludge. However, the use of polymer was found to be necessary. It helped lower SS concentration of the waste as well as lower the sludge volum. This study also found that "A" treatment plant overdosed alum. By adding 150~200 mg/L of alum (30~40 % of the actual dose), the same effluent quality was obtained.
