        Hydrothermal synthesis and application of Ho<sup>3+</sup>-activated NaYbF<sub>4</sub> bifunctional upconverting nanoparticles for <i>in vitro</i> cell imaging and latent fingerprint detection

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The Ho<SUP>3+</SUP>-activated NaYbF<SUB>4</SUB> upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) were synthesized <I>via</I> a facile hydrothermal method and characterized by X-ray diffraction pattern, transmission electron microscope image and upconversion (UC) emission spectrum. Upon the excitation of 980nm light, the as-prepared UCNPs exhibited bright green and red UC emissions corresponding to the (<SUP>5</SUP>F<SUB>4</SUB>,<SUP>5</SUP>S<SUB>2</SUB>) → <SUP>5</SUP>I<SUB>8</SUB> and <SUP>5</SUP>F<SUB>5</SUB> → <SUP>5</SUP>I<SUB>8</SUB> transitions of Ho<SUP>3+</SUP> ions, respectively. The cell toxicity test result revealed that the synthesized UCNPs possessed remarkable low cytotoxicity. With the introduction of the resultant UCNPs into the HeLa cells, intense green and red UC emissions were observed, indicating that the HeLa cells can be labeled by the obtained UCNPs and they had potential application in live cell imaging. Additionally, the practicality of the resultant UCNPs for latent fingerprint was also systematically investigated.         The harmonics involved in input AC line currents of thyristor rectifier apparatus have recently been a serious problem in the cause of burning power condenser, mis-action of UFR(protective relay), and trouble of the automatic voltage controller, etc, in the sending or distribution electric power system. As an effective counter-measure for this, the method of having switching taps on the conventional interphase reactor and its artificial utilization have been adapted, as we know. The conventional 3 tap method, however, is not achieved an effect of reducing harmonics under firing angle 15˚. In this paper, a new method of reducing harmonics involved in input AC line currents or output DC voltage of rectifier circuit is presented, which is due mainly to the equipment of the 2-3 switching taps on interphase reactor. Thereofre, main contents of this study are the following three items; 1) optimal number of taps 2) optimal turn ratio of interphase reactor 3) optimal control angle of interphase reactor.

        한국 리얼리즘시의 범주와 미학

        As a subcategory of lyric poetry, realism poetry is a relative notion set by the dominant features represented in each poem rather than by some kind of aesthetic principles. First of all, it is a general term for the movements toward the formalization of the contemporaneous realistic concrete than the inside of the poetic subject or the genuine lyricism represented by objects. And, as a kind of relative notion concerning the relative domain such as 'romantic poetry' or 'modernism poetry%, it also means the poetry of studying the concrete of social reality, and of sensitivity to the reality recognition.' Quite many logical trial-and-errors have been made in the process of defining realism poetry aesthetically. And the ongoing arguments with unclear definition whether realism poetry involves value assessment of some kind or it is restricted to simple methodological notion have been one of the factors to broaden the gap of misunderstanding. If 'the reality' that the realism poetry pursues is 'the truth', then the realism poetry can certainly be the name for the lyric poetry. But if it is restricted to the methodological notions, it would fall into one of many ways of expression and be in equal status with other aesthetic methods. Thus, the controversy over realism poetry will be able to be evaluated as an attempt to describe important historical and logical domains of Korean realism poetry. As a poetry that cannot be described with the worldview of the subject excluded, realism poetry is not only a matter of the ways of creation, but also a matter of poetic spirits as a worldview. So, realism poetry accepts the assumption that social experiences can be formalized even in the lyric poetry, the most private genre of all. Lyric poetry as an aesthetic substitute for the gloomy reality of the nation, lyric poetry describing the reality of lives in broad relation to the contemporaneous society with the aesthetic reflection and the recognition of objective social totality, and lyric poetry representing the reality recognition of the lyric subject while expressing the momentary uplifts of life; these would be the minimal definitions of realism poetry within the boundary of compromise. So It can be said that the arguments over realism poetry as above have opened new insight over Korean modern history of poetry. What is need for us to debate over the problematic category of realism poetry is to take poets with aesthetics and the mind toward reality into the central issues of Korean history of poetry. In such a process, broadening the epistemological waves to the modern eternal others (woman, environment, country, body) would also be required.

        Most studies have agreed that there is a considerable decline in sexual activity following stroke. but the hypersexuality after stroke as a relatively isolated behavioral abnormality has been less frequently reported Hypersexuality has no proven treatment, although reports have described reductions in hypersexual behavior did not response to three medications were not uncommonly observed in clinical practice A 65-year-old right-handed male presented with acute left hemipararesis. His MRI showed a right middle cerebral artery infarct involving the temporal, parietal regions and the basal ganglia. Four weeks after stroke he showed abnormal behavior, such as incessantly holding and hugging the nursing staff without assent, but no increased orality or change in eating habits But several weeks after taking cimetidine. a histamine H₂-receptor antagonist. his sexual behavior showed a marked improvement This case demonstrates that cimetidine as a non-hormonal anti-androgenic effect decreased libido and hypersexual behavior without serious side effects in patients with cognitive decline after stroke Further studies that obviously define the response and long-term side effects of cimetidine are needed to confirm our observations.

The influence of shot peening on the corrosion resistance of SCM 420 steel is investigated in this work. Then, surface compressive residual stress and hardness considerably increased, which resulted in the increase of corrosion resistance.

        Shot peening was applied on both smooth and notched specimen in order to investigate the stress distribution and the improvement in fatigue strength. The results shows that the fatigue strength of shot peened specimens increases by 34 percent compared to that of unpeened ones. Compressive residual stress also increased considerably, which resulted in the increase of fatigue strength. Finite element analysis showed that shot peening is effective in decreasing the bending stress by external force. the effectiveness of shot peening in reducing the compressive residual stress was anticipated by the superposition of the concentrated stress and the compressive residual stress.

        As the roughness coefficient by existing manning table is used by technician's experience and judgement, it isn't always correct. This study as a try to make quantitative roughness coefficient is to suggest a new application mode computerizing roughness coefficient by surveying the velocity and hydraulic condition of small rivers. The bound of roughness coefficient was 0.027∼0.180 and its values distribute uniformly. This means that the roughness coefficient adapt value Manning table cannot fill up the transformed value when the small rivers are low. The roughness coefficient computation mode in this study with hydraulic radius(R), channel slope(I), average grain diameter(D) as subject factors presents as follows. n = 5.97R^0.671 l^0.452 D^0.059

        Skeletal cryptococcosis is an uncommon infection. Cryptococcus is a common cause of meningitis and infects 7∼10% of patients with AIDS. As well as AIDS, the infection may be seen in association with leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, sarcoidosis, tuberculosis and diabetes, also in patients on steroid medication. But there is no case report of skeletal cryptococcosis following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. A 40-year-old woman was admitted to the hospital because of low back pain. She had chronic myelogenous leukemia for 2 years and underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation 8 months ago. She have been treated with steroid and cyclosporine orally because of chronic graft versus host disease. On examination she was afebrile and had posterior lower lumbar tenderness. But, she had no reduced strength of low extremities. Open biopsy was underwent. Histology demonstrated budding, round-to-oval, refractile yeast-like organisms within debris. The results of a lumbar puncture were unremarkable and cerebrospinal fluid culture failed to grow bacteria and yeast. The patient was treated with amphotericin B (1 gram) and AmBisome□ (2.8 gram) over 6 weeks. Three months after cessation of therapy, the patient was doing well.(Korean J Infect Dis 33:298∼301, 2001)
