        In vivo transduction of ETV2 improves cardiac function and induces vascular regeneration following myocardial infarction

        <▼1><P>Vascular regeneration in ischemic hearts has been considered a target for new therapeutic strategies. It has been reported that ETV2 is essential for vascular development, injury-induced neovascularization and direct cell reprogramming of non-endothelial cells into endothelial cells. Thus, the objective of this study was to explore the therapeutic potential of ETV2 in murine models of myocardial infarction in vivo. Direct myocardial delivery of lentiviral ETV2 into rodents undergoing myocardial infarction dramatically upregulated the expression of markers for angiogenesis as well as anti-fibrosis and anti-inflammatory factors in vivo. Consistent with these findings, echocardiography showed significantly improved cardiac function in hearts with induced myocardial infarction upon ETV2 injection compared to that in the control virus-injected group as determined by enhanced ejection fraction and fractional shortening. In addition, ETV2-injected hearts were protected against massive fibrosis with a remarkable increase in capillary density. Interestingly, major fractions of capillaries were stained positive for ETV2. In addition, ECs infected with ETV2 showed enhanced proliferation, suggesting a direct role of ETV2 in vascular regeneration in diseased hearts. Furthermore, culture media from ETV2-overexpressing cardiac fibroblasts promoted endothelial cell migration based on scratch assay. Importantly, intramyocardial injection of the adeno-associated virus form of ETV2 into rat hearts with induced myocardial infarction designed for clinical applicability consistently resulted in significant augmentation of cardiac function. We provide compelling evidence that ETV2 has a robust effect on vascular regeneration and enhanced cardiac repair after myocardial infarction, highlighting a potential therapeutic function of ETV2 as an efficient means to treat failing hearts.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Cardiovascular disease: New hope for healing the heart</B></P><P>A gene therapy strategy that stimulates cardiovascular repair could improve recovery for heart attack patients. Heart attacks inflict severe damage on the heart and blood vessels, tissues with limited capacity for self-repair. Researchers led by Kiwon Ban of the City University of Hong Kong and Hun-Jun Park of the Catholic University of Korea, Seoul, have now demonstrated that a gene responsible for cardiovascular development can also efficiently stimulate heart repair. They used viruses to deliver the gene into a mouse model of heart attack, and showed that treated heart tissues exhibited strong recovery relative to untreated controls. The treatment reduced scar tissue formation and promoted proliferation of the cells lining blood vessels and blood vessel formation, measurably improving heart function. This approach could lay the groundwork for treating a common potentially fatal event.</P></▼2>

      • Novel Methylation Biomarker for Non-invasive Diagnostics in Lung Cancer

        To identify aberrantly hypermethylated DNA in lung cancer cells we established a genome-wide analysis for hypermethylation sites, namely Methyl DNA Isolation and Amplification (MeDIA) coupled-CpG microarray analysis. In the comprehensive methyaltion profiling analysis between human lung cancer, A549 cells and normal NHBE cells, we observed that several clusters of genes show a significant level of aberrancy in CpG island methylation pattern in cancer cells compared to normal cells. We further identified PCDHGA12 gene as a new marker of non-invasive diagnostics for lung cancer based on followings. 1) Transcription of PCDHGA12 gene is reactivated after treatment of A549 cells with demethylating agent. 2) Bisulfide clonal-sequencing reveals that CpG island of PCDHGA12 shows a distinctive differential methylation between two cell lines. 3) Pyrosequencing-based quantitative methylation assay for such region in tumor and non-tumorous tissues from lung cancer patients shows aberrant hypermethylation in 37 (92%) of the 40 tumor tissues. In clinical validation by pyrosequencingin induced-sputum of lung cancer patients (n=87) and healthy controls (n=51), we observed aberrant hypermethylation incident at significantly elevated level in samples derived from lung cancer patients. According to the optimal threshold calculated by ROC curve analysis, sensitivity and specificity of PCDHGA12 was 86.2% and 82.4%, respectively. PCDHGA12 methylation status could be a potential methylation biomarker alone or combined with others for the screen and the detection of relapse of lung cancer.

        In this paper, we study the signed- DLMS adaptive algorithm of wireless repeater for solving shadow region due to propagation between base station and mobile station. The the signed-DLMS algorithm reduces interference signals from multipath and solves the oscillation problem of repeater by estimation and cancellation. To efficiently reject interference signal. the signed-DLMS adaptive algorithm is applied. The computational complexities of the signed-DLMS are reduced verse standard LMS algorithm. Wireless ICS repeater based on signed-DLMS reduces the cost and is able to increase channel capacities.

        청소년들의 이종격투기에 대한 미디어 시청동기가 시청태도와 행동에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of teenagers` viewing motivation of the mixed martial arts program on viewing attitude and viewing behavior. For this study, teenagers who have seen the mixed martial arts program in Sung-nam and Young-in City were selected as the population. Then, 336 teenagers chosen by systematic stratified cluster random sampling were analyzed. Exploratory Factor Analysis, Reliability Analysis and Multiple Regression were conducted by SPSS Window 12.0. The results were as follows:First, there were statistically significant differences in viewing attitude and viewing behavior according to the gender. Second, there were no statistically significant differences in viewing attitude and viewing behavior according to the school years. Third, there were statistically significant differences in viewing attitude and viewing behavior according to the viewing time. Fourth, there were statistically significant differences in viewing attitude and viewing behavior according to the viewing period. Fifth, it was found that viewing motivation significantly influences viewing attitude and explains 69.2%(R2=.268) of the variance. Vicarious satisfaction, entertainment pursuit motivation, time consuming motivation, and social exchange motivation which are subordinate constructs of viewing motivation have significantly a positive effect on viewing attitude in the order. Sixth, it was found that viewing motivation significantly influences viewing behavior and explains 69.3%(R2=.268) of the variance. Time consuming motivation, entertainment pursuit motivation, vicarious satisfaction, and social exchange motivation which are subordinate constructs of viewing motivation have significantly a positive effect on viewing behavior in the order. However, information pursuit motivation have significantly a negative effect on viewing behavior.

        단상 유도형 동기 전동기(LSPM)의 특성해석에 관한 연구

        가전분야에서의 전동기 효율향상을 통한 에너지 소비절감 효과는 상당히 크지만 이를 위한 전동기의 설계/해석 기술 확보가 아직은 미흡한 상태이다. 이에 따라 유도형 동기전동기가 제안되었지만, 유도형 동기 전동기는 유도전동기와 통기전동기의 특성을 동시에 가지고 있어, 해석 및 설계가 쉽지 않다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존의 냉장고 압축기용 전동기인 단상유도전동기를 대처할 수 있는 단상 유도형 동기전동기를 이용해 파라미터에 따라 특성이 어떻게 바뀌는가에 대해 서술하였다. 그에 따라 단상유도전동기의 정상상태 특성을 해석하고 제안모델의 성능을 기존모델과 비교하고 실험하여 해석결과의 신뢰성을 검증한다. 또한 본 논문에서는 제안모델의 기존 고정자 형상이나 권선 스팩을 유지하고 회전자의 형상이나 구조만을 변경시켜 성능향상을 도모하였다. 해석방법으로는 전자장 수치 해석적인 방법으로 널리 이용되고 있는 유한요소법(Finite Element Method : FEM)을 이용하였다. Electric motor efficient improvement from home appliance field is important to the effect reducing the energy consumption. But the electric motor design/analysis technology is still insufficient. Specially the electric motor design/analysis technology of satisfying characteristic of both the induction motor and the synchronous motor such as Line start permanent motor. Therefore the electric motor design/analysis technology is urgently demanded reliability. This paper proposes the sing1e-phase line-start permanent magnet motor to develop the motor it with be able to alternate the sing-phase induction motor it is a refrigerator compressor motor. The sing-phase induction motor is analyzed in the steady state. And we have a certification test to compare our single-phase line-start permanent magnet motor with the sing-phase induction motor. In order to improve the performance, the stator of the single-phase line-start permanent magnet motor is same as the stator of the sing-phase induction motor and changes the rotor form and has the permanent magnet. It used the Finite Element Method(FEM) which is widely used with electronic-magnetic field numerical analysis method.

        Emphysematous cholecystitis is an unusual variant of acute cholecystitis caused by gas-forming organisms. It is characterized by the presence of gas in the gall bladder lumen, wall or pericholecystic tissues. It is thought to be a rare but life-threatening disease with high morbidity and mortality rates than those for other types of acute cholecystitis. Management of emphysematous cholecystitis is surgical removal of gallbladder. Recently, percutaneous cholecystostomy drainage is employed in patients with complications such as perforation and in those who have high surgical risk. It is demonstrated to lower the surgical mortality rates, but it still does not obviate the need for surgical removal of the gallbladder. Percutaneous cholecystostomy may be used for definite therapeutic procedure of emphysematous cholecystitis and we report a case of emphysematous cholecystitis that was cured by the percutaneous cholecystotomy without surgical procedure.       • Simulation-based optimization of heating and cooling seasonal performances of an air-to-air heat pump considering operating and design parameters using genetic algorithm

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In this study, a novel simulation model is developed to optimize the seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP) and seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) of air-to-air heat pumps under various operating and design parameters. The developed heat exchanger model is simplified using artificial neural networks. The operating and design parameters were optimized to maximize the SEER and SCOP according to the outdoor temperature using the genetic algorithm. The considered operating and design parameters included the compressor frequency, indoor air flow rate, outdoor air flow rate, peak load, and compressor volume. The SCOP and SEER with the optimization of all three operating parameters were 7.0% and 21.4% higher than those with the optimization of the compressor frequency, respectively. In addition, the maximum designed cooling peak load, which satisfied the SEER greater than 8.5, was 3.7 kW. Moreover, the maximum SCOP was observed at the designed heating peak load of 3.8 kW. Further, as the compressor volume increases by 37.2% and 22.8% over the baseline compressor volume, the SCOP and SEER increase by 3.8% and 1.1%, respectively.</P> <P><B>Highlight</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> A simulation model is developed to optimize seasonal performance of a heat pump. </LI> <LI> Genetic algorithm is used to optimize operating and design parameters. </LI> <LI> Considered design parameters are peak load and compressor volume. </LI> <LI> Improvement of SCOP and SEER based on the optimization is analyzed. </LI> </UL> </P>

        Cervical Sagittal Alignment: Literature Review and Future Directions

        Cervical alignment as a concept has come to the forefront for spine deformity research in the last decade. Studies on cervical sagittal alignment started from normative data, and expanded into correlation with global sagittal balance, prognosis of various conditions, outcomes of surgery, definition and classification of cervical deformity, and prediction of targets for ideal cervical reconstruction. Despite the recent robust research efforts, the definition of normal cervical sagittal alignment and cervical spine deformity continues to elude us. Further, many studies continue to view cervical alignment as a continuation of thoracolumbar deformity and do not take into account biomechanical features unique to the cervical spine that may influence cervical alignment, such as the importance of musculature connecting cranium-cervical-thoracic spine and upper extremities. In this article, we aim to summarize the relevant literature on cervical sagittal alignment, discuss key results, and list potential future direction for research using the ‘5W1H’ framework; “WHO” are related?, “WHY” important?, “WHAT” to evaluate and “WHAT” is normal?, “HOW” to evaluate?, “WHEN” to apply sagittal balance?, and “WHERE” to go in the future?
