        The results of this study on Si solar cell supplying home e!ectric energy in Cheju Province are as follows, 1) The weather conditions for generating the electric power by Si-solar cell are quite well. That is. about 68 days are fine anJ about 100 days of 218 days has more than 50% cloud amiunt. 2) In Cheju, the average electric power each home needs for a year is 1,449kWh. If we have Si-solar cell source systems on the roof of our home by about 3.3㎡, considering the energy loss, we will be able to generating 2,187kWh electric energy and in this solar cell system, another problem is that we should have aid-facilities such as storage battery. 3) At present, it is true that the solar cell electric power system is not economy because of its establishment expenses. For the future, if the economy of this solar cell electric power system should be considered at the proper price, this solar cell system will be used and applied in many ways.

        In course of middle school, the textbook has about 112 physical terms in number on the average. Among these, the following terms have frequently appeared : force, electric current, work, motion, speed, electric resistance, energy, voltage, electricity, electron etc. The number of physical terms used in high school is 356 in number. Among these, the following terms are often used in textbook : power, motion, speed, mass, temperature, work, heat, elecmc current, charge, wave, atomic nucleus, etc. When we examine frequency distribution of physical terms in each textbook of high school, we have find out following facts ; force and motion : 21.5%, heat and energy : 18.38, elecmc and magnetic : 26.9%, wave and particle : 33.3% Therefore, the unit using physical terms most ofen is wave and particle. As a result of this research, some units, such as force and motion, energy and heat, electric and magnetic, have close correlation of contents. One the other hand, unit of wave and particle doesn't.

        분석결과 검증 및 신뢰성 확보를 위한 실험실간 협력 실험

        The residual study of pesticide has been used in various areas, such as food safety, environmental protection, establishment of tolerance, and explaining the pathway and reaction mode of pesticides, and its importance was expected to increase further more. The aspect of food safety, the pesticide residue survey have been practiced at many organizations, but there were no verification of analytical results at present. In this experiment, we focused on instrumental stability, including response of each instrument and the recovery ratio of each organization's method. As samples for this experiment, we prepared cucumber and sesame, and chose 4 pesticides (bifenthrin, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, and ethoprophos), which were mostly detected from pesticide residue survey and widely used for each crop. The standard deviation of peak areas in the chromatogram of each pesticide were under 1.212 %, so it showed that most instruments were stable. The relationship of recovery ratio of each organization were over 0.996 for every pesticide and each organization. Finally, the analytical results for pesticide residue from each participated organization were not statically significant and we could put confidence in the result from each organization.

        To investigete the obstacles of developing physics education in secondary schools and the countermeasure in present situtation, I distributed subject - description style answer sheets to middle & high school teachers in Cheju, which consist of 28 detail subjects under the big 8 themes. The recovery rate is 75%, and now I'm describing the result. According to the themes, total frequency is like this : Derection of Physics Leaming(412), Administration of Physics Facilities and Other Elements(298), Administration of Physics Education(268), Contents of Text( 183), Events of Science(163), Guiding of Students(l23), Grade and Evaluation of Students(101), 6th Education Cumculum(86). It suggests as the improvement that experiment training for teachers be reinforced, programs about new physicse teaching menthod be introduced, teachers try to motivate the students in class, teaching material for students?advanced learning be developed, usage of teaching material be presented, qualified experiment assistant be arranged and no less than two laboratories be provided by school unit and hours of teaching on physics teacher lessen. Besides, science events need to be held for every student by school unit, which should be eximined about when and how they would be he held.

      • 만성 C형 간염 환자에서 페그인터페론 알파2a와 리바비린 병합 치료중 발생한 벨마비 1예

        페그인터페론과 리바비린 병합요법은 만성 C형 간염의 일차 치료법이다. 저자들은 만성 C형 간염 환자에서 페그인터페론 과 리바비린 병합 요법 중에 발생한 벨마비 1예를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. 환자는 5년 전부터 만성 C형 간염을 앓아온 48세 남자이며, PEG-IFN α-2a 135μgm 피하주사 주1회와 하루 1200㎎의 리바비린을 투여하였다. 치료시작 후 9개월째 환자는 오른쪽 안면의 근력약화를 호소하였으며 벨마비로 진단되었다. 페그인터페론과 리바비린 병합요법을 지속하면서 관찰하였다. 환자의 벨마비는 페그인터페론 치료를 중단하지 않았음에도 3개월후 증상이 회복되고 이후 벨마비 재발 없이 현재 경과관찰 중이다. 만성 C형 간염에서 페그인터페론과 리바비린 병합 요법시 벨마비의 발생 가능성을 염두에 두어야 하겠다. A Case of Bell's Palsy Associated with Combination Therapy of Pegylated Interferon Alfa-2a (PEG-IFN) and Ribavirin for Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Infection Pegylated interferon alfa(PEG-IFN α) and ribavirin therapy is the first line treatment for chronic hepatitis C. Mild complications of the therapy are common, but more serious complications are rare. We report here a case of Bell's palsy that occurred in a patient with chronic hepatitis C virus infection during combination therapy of PEG-IFN α-2a and ribavirin. The patient was 49-year-old man with chronic hepatitis C (genotype 1b) for 8 years. He had compensated liver cirrhosis with splenomegaly. Therapy with PEG-IFN α- 2a 135mcg/week and ribavirin 1200mg/day was initiated. After 9 months of the therapy, the patient showed a loss of muscular tone on the right side of his face. A diagnosis of Bell's palsy was made. The Bell's palsy resolved over 3 months despite continuation of the combination therapy.

        외상성 횡격막 손상

        Fifty two cases of traumatic diaphragmatic injuries that we have experienced from Jan. 1973 to Oct. 1994 were evaluated. The following results were obtained. The age of the patient was ranged from 1 to 74 years. Male was 38 and female was 14 in number with a ratio of 2.7 : 1. The traumatic diaphragmatic injuries were due to blunt trauma in 35 cases(motor vehicle accident 25, fall down 8, press 1, kick by fight 1) and penetrating trauma in 17 cases(stab wound 15, shot wound 1, explosion 1). In the blunt trauma, the preoperative diagnosis of the diaphragmatic injury was possible in 25 out of 35 cases(71%) and in the penetrating trauma, 15 out of 17 cases(88%). In the blunt trauma, the repture site was located in the left in 22 cases(63%) and in the right in 13 cases(31%). In the penetrating trauma, the rupture site was located in the left in 9 cases(53%) and in the right in 8 cases(47%). In the blunt trauma, 20 cases(63%) were treated within 24 hours and in the penetrating, 15 cases(88%) within 24 hours. In the blunt trauma, the herniated organs into the thorax were stomach(7), omentum(6), spleen(6), liver(5), colon(4), small bowel(2) and in the penetrating, stomach(7), colon(6), omentum(3), liver(2), and spleen(1) were herniated. Injury severity score(ISS) of 35-blunt trauma ranged from 11 to 66 with mean value of 30.6. Mean ISS of survivors and nonsurvivors was 27.6 and 52.7 respectively. The diaphragmatic repair of 49 cases was performed with thoracic approach in 23 cases, thoracoabdominal approach in 7 cases and abdominal approach in 19 cases, and 3 cases were not operated. The postoperative complication and mortality were developed in 16 out of 49 cases(33%) and in 5 cases(9.6%) respectively, and the causes of death were hypovolemic shock(1), combined head injury(2), asphyxia(1), and pulomnary edema and renal failure(1). In conclusion, the injuries of the diaphragm should be suspected in all patients with severe blunt trauma or penetrating injuries at thorax and upper abdominal area near the diaphragm. All of the cases had associated injury and most of deaths were related to the severity of associated injuries.

      • Acute Myocardial Infarction with Simultaneous Occlusions of Left Anterior Descending Artery and Right Coronary Artery

        Acute myocardial infarctions involving multiple coronary arteries simultaneously are infrequent and causative risk factors of the occlusions are unclear. However, severe complications arise, such as congestive heart failure or death. We report a case of two simultaneously occluded coronary arteries. A 39-year-old Korean man with simultaneous total occlusion of the left anterior descending artery and the right coronary artery presented with chest discomfort and cardiogenic shock. Immediate percutaneous coronary intervention was performed and a transvenous temporary pacemaker and intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation catheter were inserted. Through continuous effort he was discharged 8 days post intervention without any complaints.

        Evodiamine Reduces Caffeine-Induced Sleep Disturbances and Excitation in Mice

        Worldwide, caffeine is among the most commonly used stimulatory substances. Unfortunately, significant caffeine consumption is associated with several adverse effects, ranging from sleep disturbances (including insomnia) to cardiovascular problems. This study investigates whether treatment with the Evodia rutaecarpa aqueous extract (ERAE) from berries and its major molecular component, evodiamine, can reduce the adverse caffeine-induced sleep-related and excitation effects. We combined measurements from the pentobarbital-induced sleep test, the open field test, and the locomotor activity test in mice that had been dosed with caffeine. We found that ERAE and evodiamine administration reduced the degree of caffeine-induced sleep disruption during the sleep test. Additionally, we found that evodiamine significantly inhibits caffeine-induced excitation during the open field test, as well as decreasing hyperlocomotion in the locomotor activity test. Additional in vitro experiments showed that caffeine administration decreased the expression of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)<sub>A</sub> receptor subunits in the mouse hypothalamus. However, evodiamine treatment significantly reversed this expression reduction. Taken together, our results demonstrate that ERAE and its major compound, evodiamine, provide an excellent candidate for the treatment or prevention of caffeine-induced sleep disturbances and excitatory states, and that the mechanism of these beneficial effects acts, at least in part, through the GABA<sub>A</sub>-ergic system.
