AT-cut quartz crystals and SAW devices were applied as immunosensors and chemical vapour sensors coated with PG, PI, PE, PS and lipid A were useful for determine of amylacetate, acetoin, menthone and other organic vapours, which showed different affinities for each lipid. We conducted that the key problems of our sensor system for practical application are life time and reproducibility from our results. The most important points are chemical instability of natural lipid materials and randomness of coating method. In this paper, we combined an artificial lipid with a piezoelectric crystal in order to improve stability of our sensor. LB technique was applied to produce uniform lipid layers on the crystals. Relationships between frequency change and number of LB layers are also discussed.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The Li<SUB>4</SUB>SiO<SUB>4</SUB> sorbent is considered one of the most promising CO<SUB>2</SUB> acceptor materials at high temperatures, but it has the disadvantage of poor CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture performance due to aggregation. In this study, a novel lithium silicate-based sorbent containing both Li<SUB>4</SUB>SiO<SUB>4</SUB> phase and Li<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>3</SUB> phase was developed to overcome the decrease of CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture capacity of the sorbent for CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture in the high temperature range of 550–700 °C. This sorbent was simply prepared by physical mixing of Li<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB> and SiO<SUB>2</SUB> (Ludox®) in a 1.8:1 M ratio. The effect of the developed lithium silicate-based sorbent on CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) analysis. The novel lithium silicate-based sorbent exhibited a high CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture capacity (∼250 mg CO<SUB>2</SUB>/g sorbent) during multiple cycles at a regeneration temperature of 700 °C. In addition, we found that the CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture performance was affected by Li<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>3</SUB> phase in the lithium silicate-based sorbents. This is because the Li<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>3</SUB> in the sorbent helps prevent growth of particle size and aggregation.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The sorbent containing Li<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>3</SUB> and Li<SUB>4</SUB>SiO<SUB>4</SUB> was developed for CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture. </LI> <LI> The sorbent was prepared by mixing 1.8 mol of Li<SUB>2</SUB>CO<SUB>3</SUB> with colloidal silica. </LI> <LI> The Li<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>3</SUB> phase was an inert material for CO<SUB>2</SUB> capture. </LI> <LI> The Li<SUB>2</SUB>SiO<SUB>3</SUB> in the sorbent plays an important role in improving the performance. </LI> </UL> </P>

This study was conducted to develop a proficiency test (PT) specimen for the enumeration of Escherichia coli, a sanitary indicative bacterium, in molluscan bivalve shellfish. The common mussel Mytilus edulis was chosen as a matrix for the PT specimen. Mussels were artificially bioaccumulated for approximately 3 h with E. coli culture. After determining the homogeneity of samples, samples were distributed to 17 participants involved in the proficiency testing program. The enumeration of E. coli was performed by the most probable number method of the American Public Health Association. Statistical evaluations of the results obtained from inter- and intra-laboratory variation indicated no significant differences in the accuracy of these techniques between participants, indicating z-scores of ${\leq}{\pm}2$ and suggesting that preparation of the PT specimen for enumerating E coli in shellfish was successful.

Maximum Torque Operation of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor in Flux-Weakening Control

A new flux-weakening scheme for an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) is proposed. This control scheme enables the maximum torque operation for the fast acceleration in the constant power region according to the current and voltage limit condition. Especially the dynamic performance of the braking in the flux-weakening region is improved with the compensation of the stator resistance. Also since the onset of the flux weakening operation is adjusted according to the load conditions, the machine parameters. and whether motoring or braking region. the stable and precise transition operation into or out of the flux weakening region can be achieved. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified through experiments with an IPMSM drive system.

A double relaxation oscillation SQUID (DROS) provides a large flux-to-voltage transfer coefficient, and a room-temperature preamplifier can detect the DROS output directly. When the DROS is connected to a preamplifier consisting of several bipolar transistors, SSM2210s or MAT02s, the operation of DROS can be disturbed because the input-bias current of the preamplifier can flow through the DROS and exceed the critical current of the reference junction in the DROS. In order to know how the DROS acts when an input-bias current goes through the reference junction of DROS, we made a current controller to regulate the input-bias current of the preamplifier. The controller regulates an input-bias current of 0 . 12.5 μA with a resolution of 3 nA, which can cover preamplifiers made up of 10 pairs of SSM2210s in parallel. We have determined the input-bias current range for stable operation of the DROS when using Flux-Locked-Loop electronics with a preamplifier consisting of 4 SSM2210s. The higher the critical current of the reference junction in DROS is, the wider the operation input-bias range is. If the DROS has a low critical-current of the reference junction below 3 μA, however, a fixed input bias for reducing the input-bias current of the preamplifier may disturb the operation of the DROS. When the output of the DROS is detected by a preamplifier with an input-bias current controller, the noise of the DROS attains the same level of 10 fT/pHz at 1 Hz and 5 fT/pHz at 100 Hz, as long as the preamplifier has an input-bias current within the operation range, ever though it flows through the reference junction of the DROS.

Recently, a great social damage has been caused by the sargassum homeri, which has flowed from China in the Jeju and Namhae coasts. In this study, biopolymer was prepared by using sargassum homeri and applied to bridge pavement concrete. The performance of chloride ion penetration resistance of the bridge pavement concrete made of biopolymer was evaluated. As a result, excellent penetration resistance performance was shown.
