Objectives : In this study, the authors evaluated the correlation between eurocognitive impairments and serum lipids levels among Korean elderly over the age of 65. Methods : A total of 609 elderly individuals participated in this study. Screening for cognitive impairments were carried out using the Mini-Mental Status Examination-Korean version (MMSE-KC). There were 197 subjects above 1.5SD Of MMSE- KC and they were evaluated using the Korean versions of the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) (CERAD-KC) and Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-K). Results : There was a correlation between old age/low levels of education and AD (p<0.05, P<0.01). There was an inverse correlation between the serum level of total cholesterol and the word list recognition test scores. The serum levels of LDL cholesterol were inversely correlated with the scores on the constructional praxis test, word list recall test and word list recognition test. Inverse correlations between the serum level of triglyceride and scores on the word list recall test and word list recognition test were also observed. Conclusion : There were inverse correlations between the serum levels of lipids and language/memory function in subjects with AD.

Objective : Serum uric acid has now been identified as a marker for a number of metabolic and hemodynamic abnormalities. The aim of this study is to evaluate risk factors which influence hyperuricemia in the citizens of Asan. Method : The study design was cross-sectional and research subjects were 1086 citizens of Asan. General characteristics, cigarette smoking, alcohol consumption, and past history were obtained by interview using a structural questionnaire. Also, we measured height, weight and blood pressure, and serum uric acid of the subjects. Results : The mean serum uric acid level was 5.27 ㎎/㎗ in men and 4.01 ㎎/㎗, in women, In the multiple logistic regression analysis, statically significant risk factors of hyperuhcemia were gender, body mass index, blood lead concentration, and serum creatinine. Conclusion : Our results suggest that gender, body mass index, blood lead concentration, and serum creatinine might be the most important risk factors of hyperurcemia. Education program as well as routine check-up for serum uric acid was highly recommended for the effective prevention of hyperuricemia.

This study is a basic review of the use of CGS generated in IGCC as a fine aggregate for concrete, and a basic feature of cement mortar was considered. The analysis shows that CGS and CS mix ratio is best when the CGS is mixed at about 0~50 % On the basis of workability and strength improvement effects. This is expected to contribute to the strength, workability, and quality improvement of concrete given the optimal mixing of CGS.

This study is conducted to identify improvements in the setting time estimation system through the Mock-up test of the finishing automation system and the setting estimation system. As a result of the study, it is necessary to adjust the spring strength of the setting time estimator and the diameter and length of the estimation needle so that the value of the hardness can be measured from 15HD to around 40HD.

N/A The W- B sensitivity was tested for the intertidal species Chondrus ocellatus from Korea, by measuring photosynthesis estimated as effective quantum yield (apsn) of photosystem Ⅱ (PS 11), growth and content and composition of photosynthetic pigments and W-absorbing pigments (WAPs). The φ_(psⅡ) of the alga decreased with increasing time of exposure to W- B radiation, followed by fast and nearly full recovery indicating dynamic photoinhihiton. Fresh weight-based growth and pigment contents of C. ocellatus were not seriously affected by W- B radiation. A single broad peak at 327 nm was obtained from methanol extracts of C. ocellatus, and the absorbance peak increased with increasing W. The single peak was resolved into three peaks (311, 330 and 336 nm) by the fourth-derivative, and quantitative change in response to W- B radiation occurred only at 330 nm. High performance liquid chromatography (APLC) analysis of purified extracts indicated that three MAAs (mycosporine like amino acids) are present, asterina 330, palythine and shinorine. Field observations during three growing months showed that C. ocellatus exhibit the highest amount of WAPs in May followed by July and little trace in September, coinciding with the species` phenology. In an ecological context, dynamic photoinhihition as well as accumulation of WAF`S may enable the shallow water red alga C. ocellatus to he well adapted to high W- B environments.
