        The purpose of this study was to identify the needs and wants of the Korean National University of physical Education students with respect to the university's facilities and gazette. In particular the study attempted to determine whether there are significant differences among the needs and wants of three groups of students -athletes, industry students, and regular students. A questionnaire consisting of questions about the university's bulletin board, library, swimming pool, computer room, convenience store, rest areas, and gazette was distributed in June 1996. Students from all grades and departments except the dance department, participated in the study. The data was analyzed by employing the Chi-square test (alpha = 0.05) and by using the SPSS-Window statistical package. Variables showing a statistical difference were further analyzed by examining the cross-tabulations of the three groups and their specific responses. As a result, the following conclusions were made: (1) There is a lack of bulletin boards, and the location needing a bulletin board the most is the front gate; (2) Students generally use the library to write a report for class, but there is a lack of books and journals in the library; (3) The swimming pool is not utilized well during non-class hours because its usage is limited to certain student groups and hours; (4) Athletes consider the hours, the regular students consider the lack of computers, and the industry students consider the processing speed of the computers as the most inconvenient factor in their utilization of the computer room; (5) Many students desire to purchase products which contain the university's logo; (6) There is a lack of rest areas where students can spend their free time resulting from a cancelled class; (7) Regular students tend to be more interested in university and circle news, while athletes tend to be more interested in sport news. Nevertheless, all students are interested in reading about how their alumni chose their career and about other universities' news.

        광중합방식이 콤포머의 변연폐쇄에 미치는 영향

        The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of various polymerization techniques on the microleakage of compomer restorations. Fifty extracted human premolar and molar were used and randomly divided into 5 groups. After cavity preparation, compomer (F2000) was filled according to the manufacturer's directions. All groups, except group 5, were filled using an incremental technique. Group 1was polymerized for 40 seconds at a continuous 485mW/㎠ with a VIP (Bisco, USA) light cure unit. Group 2 was polymerized for 20 seconds at a continuous 345mW/㎠ and then for 20 seconds at 645mW/㎠ with the VIP light cure unit. Group 3 was polymerized at 400mW/㎠, gradually increased to 50mW/㎠ per 10 seconds until 550mW/㎠ was reached; total 40 seconds with a Spectrum 800 (Dentsply Caulk, USA) light cure unit. Group 4 was polymerized for for 3 seconds using an incremental technique with a Flipo (LOKKi, France) light cure unit. Group 5 was polymerized for 3 seconds using a bulk fill technique with the Flipo light cure unit. The specimens were embedded with acrylic resin, and were sectioned with diamond saws in a mesiodistal direction along the longitudinal axis of the tooth so as to pass through the center of the restoration, and three surfaces (occlusal, pulpal, and gingival) were examined with SEM. The results were as follows; 1. Group 5 showed a significantly larger gaps compared to other groups on the gingival, occlusal, and pulpal walls. 2. All groups except group 5 had no statistically significant gap on the gingival, occlusal, and pulpal walls. 3. There was no significant correlation between the amount of enamel on the gingival and occlusal walls and polymerization shrinkage.

        전신성 홍반성 루푸스에서 F-18 FDG PET상 기저핵 포도당대사 증가 소견을 보이는 무도병 1예 : Evidence for Bilateral Putaminal Hypermetabolism on F-18 FDG PET

        Purpose: We describe a 54-year-old woman with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) who suddenly presented with chorea and had positive antiphospholipid antibodies. F-18 FDG PET showed abnormally increased glucose metabolism in bilateral putamen and primary motor cotex. Tc-99m ECD SPECt also showed abnormally increased regional cerebral blood flow in bilateral putamen. She was treated with corticosteroid and aspirin after which the symptoms improved. Four months later, follow up F-18 FDG PET showed improvement with resolution of hypermetabolism in bilateral putamen. This case suggests that striatal hypermetabolism is associated with chorea in SLE.

        반코마이신 내성 장내구균 분리 환자에서 황색포도알균의 내성

        목적 : Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE)로부터 S. aureus로의 vacomycin 내성 유전자의 전파는 오래전부터 예견되어져 왔으며 큰 걱정거리로 남아있다. 최근에 vanA 유전자를 가지고 있는 vancomycin-resistant S. aureus 2주가 미국에서 분리되었다. 이 연구의 목적은 VRE를 보균하고 있는 환자들에서 S. aureus 보균양상과 항균제 내성을 알아보는데 그 목적이 있다. 재료 및 방법 : 2001년 1월부터 2001년 12월까지 부산대학교병원에 입원하였던 환자들 중 임상검체에서 VRE가 분리된 환자 7명과 2001년 9월부터 12월까지 외과 중 환자실에 입원하였던 환자들 중 VRE 감시배양을 시행하였던 20명의 환자들을 대상으로 하였다. 환자들은 전비공, 액와부, 회음부, 직장에서 매주 면봉으로 검체를 채취하였다. 선별배지에서 검체를 배양하여 S. aureus를 분리하였고 원판 확산법을 이용하여 methicillin 감수성을 측정하였다. Broth microdilution 법으로 vancomycin MIC를 측정하였다. 결과 : 총 27명에서 73회의 방문과 292회의 배양이 시행되었으며 총 67주의 S. aureus가 분리되었다. 이중 64주(95.5%)가 methicillin 내성이었다. 전비공 MRSA 보균율은 VRE를 보균하고 있었던 환자는 19명 중 11명(58%)에서, VRE를 보균하지 않았던 환자는 8명 중 3명(37.5%)으로 VRE 보균자에서 보균율이 더 높았다. 총 64주의 MRSA의 vancomycin MIC의 분포는 0.5-2㎍/mL였으며 2㎍/mL를 초과하는 균주는 발견되지 않았다. 64주 중 vancomycin MIC가 1㎍/mL인 균주가 54주(84.4%)로 가장 많았으며 2㎍/mL 6주(9.4%), 0.5㎍/mL 4주(6.3%)의 순이었다. 결론 : VRE 환자에서 S. aureus의 보균율은 비보균자 보다 높았으며 분리된 균주들은 대부분 MRSA였다. VRSA 균주는 발견되지 않았다. Background : The transfer of vancomycin resistance from vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) to Staphylococcus aureus has been predicted. The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence and antibiotics resistance of S. aureus among patients colonized with VRE. Methods : Between January 2001 and December 2001, a prospective study was performed at Pusan National University Hospital on 27 patients. Surveillance swabs from nasal cavity, axilla, perineum, and rectum were obtained at weekly intervals. Methicillin susceptability of S. aureus was determined by oxacillin disk diffusion test and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) for vancomycin by microdilution broth test. Results : Total of 292 swab cultures were performed and 67 S. aureus isolates were collected. 64 isolates (95.5%) were resistant to methicillin. The prevalence of nasal MRSA carrier in 19 patients colonized with VRE was higher than that in 8 patients not colonized with VRE (58% vs. 37.5%). In 64 MRSA isolates, MIC (㎍/mL) for vancomycin ranged from 0.5 to 2. No isolates with MIC >2 ㎍/mL were observed. MIC of 1 ㎍/mL was shown (observed) in 54 isolates, 2 ㎍/mL in 6 isolates, and 0.5 ㎍/mL in 4 isolates. Conclusion : The prevalence of S. aureus with colonization of VRE is higher than that without colonization of VRE. Most of S. aureus isolates were resistant to methicillin. VRSA isolates were not observed.

      • Improvements of phosphorescent white OLEDs performance for lighting application.

        <P>We developed white OLED device with high power efficiency, in which blue and orange phosphorescent emitters were used. By introduction of multi-functional interlayer which has partial doping of orange dopant inside EBL, we report WOLEDs with peak external efficiencies up to (14.1% EQE, 31.3 Im/W) without light out-coupling technique. At 1000 cd/m2, the performance achieved was 11.9% EQE, 18.7 Im/W with CIE = (0.39, 0.44). We also found that WOLED performances are related with doping ratio of the orange dopant that was inserted inside EBL.</P>

      • A rare case of abnormal vaginal bleeding caused by vulva venous hemangioma: a case report

        Haemangioma is a benign formation originating from vascular tissue which usually occurs in childhood. A hemangioma can occur anywhere on the body but, vulva venous hemangiomas are extremely rare in nulliparous women. A 25-year-old woman with abnormal vaginal bleeding with genital ulcerative lesion for six months presented to the hospital. Vaginal examination revealed a 1.5X1 cm papillary mass with ulcerated surface on the vaginal fourchette. Speculum examination revealed a cervix with an apparently normal epithelium and external os with no pathological discharge. The mass was visually suspected to be a precancerous lesion or malignancy. The mass was successfully removed by complete excision and biopsy showed ulcerative lesion with chronic active inflammation and granulation tissue and compatible with squamous papilloma. One month later, the same lesion with bleeding was growing on vaginal fourchette and, excision was performed. The pathologic finding was vulva hemangioma. The review of primary vulva lesion was diagnosed with hemangioma and, the second lesion was recurred hemangioma. Vulva hemangiomas with ulcerative lesion are very rare and only small number of cases are reported in literature. It is necessary to carry out differential diagnosis of premalignant or malignant lesions.

        This document is the third part of the guidelines for the interpretation and post-processing of cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) studies. These consensus recommendations have been developed by a Consensus Committee of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Imaging (KOSCI) to standardize the requirements for image interpretation and post-processing of CMR. This third part of the recommendations describes tissue characterization modules, including perfusion, late gadolinium enhancement, and T1- and T2 mapping. Additionally, this document provides guidance for visual and quantitative assessment, consisting of "What-to-See," "How-To," and common pitfalls for the analysis of each module. The Consensus Committee hopes that this document will contribute to the standardization of image interpretation and post-processing of CMR studies.

        Effect of microgrooves and fibronectin conjugation on the osteoblast marker gene expression and differentiation

        PURPOSE. To determine the effect of fibronectin (FN)-conjugated, microgrooved titanium (Ti) on osteoblast differentiation and gene expression in human bone marrow−derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). MATERIALS AND METHODS. Photolithography was used to fabricate the microgrooved Ti, and amine functionalization (silanization) was used to immobilize fibronectin on the titanium surfaces. Osteoblast differentiation and osteoblast marker gene expression were analyzed by means of alkaline phosphatase activity assay, extracellular calcium deposition assay, and quantitative real-time PCR. RESULTS. The conjugation of fibronectin on Ti significantly increased osteoblast differentiation in MSCs compared with non-conjugated Ti substrates. On the extracellular calcium deposition assays of MSCs at 21 days, an approximately two-fold increase in calcium concentration was observed on the etched 60-μm-wide/10-μm-deep microgrooved surface with fibronectin (E60/10FN) compared with the same surface without fibronectin (E60/10), and a more than fourfoldincrease in calcium concentration was observed on E60/10FN compared with the non-etched control (NE0) and etched control (E0) surfaces. Through a series of analyses to determine the expression of osteoblast marker genes, a significant increase in all the marker genes except type I collagen α1 mRNA was seen with E60/10FN more than with any of the other groups, as compared with NE0. CONCLUSION. The FN-conjugated, microgrooved Ti substrate can provide an effective surface to promote osteoblast differentiation and osteoblast marker gene expression in MSCs.
