In this paper, a real-time digital kalman filtering algorithm is used to obtain the reference estimation of the control current for shunt active power filter. This algor ithm provides the best estimate of the fundamental and harmonic frequency components from the sampled values of the line current or voltage waveform. By adopting of the digital Kalman filtering algorithm, the structure of the control algorithm eliminates the need of a Phase locked loop(PLL) for the synchronization of the reference signal used in the compensation and it not sensitive to the distortion of the line voltage. The effectiveness of the algorithm is confirmed by the computer simulations.

Peptidyl arginine deiminase type IV ( <i>PADI4</i> ) haplotypes interact with shared epitope regardless of anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibody or erosive joint status in rheumatoid arthritis: a case control study

        Bang, So-Young,Han, Tae-Un,Choi, Chan-Bum,Sung, Yoon-Kyoung,Bae, Sang-Cheol,Kang, Changwon BioMed Central 2010 ARTHRITIS RESEARCH AND THERAPY Vol.12 No.3

<P><B>Introduction</B></P><P>Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide autoantibodies (anti-CCP) are the most specific serologic marker for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Genetic polymorphisms in a citrullinating (or deiminating) enzyme, peptidyl arginine deiminase type IV (PADI4) have been reproducibly associated with RA susceptibility in several populations. We investigated whether <I>PADI4 </I>polymorphisms contribute to anti-CCP-negative as well as -positive RA, whether they influence disease severity (erosive joint status), and whether they interact with two major risk factors for RA, Human Leukocyte Antigen-DRB1 <I>(HLA-DRB1</I>) shared epitope (SE) alleles and smoking, depending on anti-CCP and erosive joint status.</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>All 2,317 unrelated Korean subjects including 1,313 patients with RA and 1,004 unaffected controls were genotyped for three nonsynonymous (padi4_89, padi4_90, and padi4_92) and one synonymous (padi4_104) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in <I>PADI4 </I>and for <I>HLA-DRB1 </I>by direct DNA sequence analysis. Odds ratios (OR) were calculated by multivariate logistic regression. Interaction was evaluated by attributable proportions (AP), with 95% confidence intervals (CI).</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>A functional haplotype of the three fully correlated nonsynonymous SNPs in <I>PADI4 </I>was significantly associated with susceptibility to not only anti-CCP-positive (adjusted OR 1.73, 95% CI 1.34 to 2.23) but also -negative RA (adjusted OR 1.75, 95% CI 1.15 to 2.68). A strong association with both non-erosive (adjusted OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.29 to 2.05) and erosive RA (adjusted OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.14 to 2.31) was observed for <I>PADI4 </I>haplotype. Gene-gene interactions between the homozygous RA-risk <I>PADI4 </I>haplotype and SE alleles were significant in both anti-CCP-positive (AP 0.45, 95% CI 0.20 to 0.71) and -negative RA (AP 0.61, 95% CI 0.29 to 0.92). Theses interactions were also observed for both non-erosive (AP 0.48, 95% CI 0.25 to 0.72) and erosive RA (AP 0.46, 95% CI 0.14 to 0.78). In contrast, no interaction was observed between smoking and <I>PADI4 </I>polymorphisms.</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>A haplotype of nonsynonymous SNPs in <I>PADI4 </I>contributes to development of RA regardless of anti-CCP or erosive joint status. The homozygous <I>PADI4 </I>haplotype contribution is affected by gene-gene interactions with <I>HLA-DRB1 </I>SE alleles.</P>

On Pricing Equity-Linked Investment Products with a Threshold Expense Structure

        Bae, Tae-Han,Ko, Bang-Won The Korean Statistical Society 2010 응용통계연구 Vol.23 No.4

This paper considers a certain expense structure where a vendor of equity-linked investment product will collect its expenses continuously from the investor's account whenever the investment performance exceeds a certain threshold level. Under the Black-Scholes framework, we derive compact convolution formulas for evaluating the total expenses to be collected during the investment period by using the joint Laplace transform of the Brownian motion and its excursion time. We provide numerical examples for illustration.

      • S-9 Long-term efficacy of tenofovir for nucleos(t)ide-naive patients with chronic hepatitis B

( Han Mu Lee ),( Joong Gi Bae ),( Hyun Seong Lee ),( Young Min Shin ),( Kyung Hye Park ),( Byung Uk Lee ),( Jae Ho Park ),( Byung Gyu Kim ),( Seok Won Jung ),( In Du Jeong ),( Sung-jo Bang ),( Jung Wo 대한내과학회 2016 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2016 No.1

Backgrounds:?Tenofovir (TDF) is nucleoside analogue with high potency for profound and durable viral suppression and genetic barriers against resistance; TDF is recommended for the first-line treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in current guidelines, but data in Korean patients from community studies are lacking. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of TDF, and to determine patient-dependent or laboratory variables that predict virological response. Methods:?We retrospectively investigated the efficacy of TDF treatment for more than 6 months in 456 nucleos(t)ide-naive CHB patients. The primary endpoint was a virological response (VR), defined as an HBV DNA level of <12 IU/mL. Secondary endpoints were rates of ALT normalization (ALT <upper limit of normal), HBeAg seroconversion, partial virologic response (PVR), virologic breakthrough (VBT), and safety.?Results:?The median duration of TDF therapy was 22.0 (range, 6-40) months. Two hundreds sixty-five (58.1%) patients were HBeAg positive. The mean pre-treatment HBV DNA level was 6.34±1.41 log10 IU/mL. Among the 380 patients with elevated ALT levels at baseline, 343 patients (90.3%) had ALT normalization. VR was achieved in 379 patients (83.1%) during treatment. The cumulative rates of VR at 6, 12, 24 and 36 months were 53.4%, 73.2%, 90.6%, and 95.5%, respectively. PVR was evident in 208 (45.6%) patients. VBT was observed in 25 patients (5.5%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis using selected baseline factors identified absolute HBV-DNA levels at baseline (p<0.001; OR, 0.512; 95% CI, 0.397-0.661) and HBeAg positivity (p<0.001; OR, 0.781; 95% CI, 0.717-0.852) as factors showing significant association with VR. Among 265 HBeAg-positive patients, 43 (9.4%) achieved HBeAg seroconversion. Most adverse events were mild in severity.?Conclusions:?TDF is effective and well tolerated in Korean CHB patients in real life practice, consistent with larger registration trials. The lower HBV DNA levels at baseline and HBeAg-negative CHB patients were significantly associated with VR.

        한진석,이동호,김수태,이정상,이현순,김성권,강윤구,김노경,방영주,배현주 대한내과학회 1987 대한내과학회지 Vol.34 No.1

In Korea, nine cases of Kaposi's sarcoma has been reported until now. We experienced 2 cases of renal transplant-associated Kaposi's sarcoma. The first case was a 56-year-old Korean man who had received cyclosporine and prednisone as immunosuppressant agent, and Kaposi's sarcoma developed 3 months after renal transplantation with multipe skin nodule, right palatine tonsilar nodule, and multiple pulmonary nodule on chest X-ray. These lesions nearly regressed after systemic chemotherapy of VP-16 and discontinuance of Imuran. The second case was a 48-year-old Korean man who had received cyclosporine and prednisone, and Kaposi's sarcoma developed 6 months after renal transplantation with scalp nodule and skin nodules on right axilla and left thigh. He is observed only after discontinuance of Imuran

Characteristics of a Corona between a Wiring Clamp(Dead End Clamp) and a Porcelain Insulator Used in a 154[kV] Power Receptacle

        Han, Un-Ki,Kim, Jong-Min,Bang, Sun-Bae,Kim, Han-Sang,Choi, Hyeong-Jun The Korean Institute of IIIuminating and Electrica 2007 조명·전기설비학회논문지 Vol.21 No.9

The occurrence of a corona is that electrical discharge due to the heterogeneity that occurs when an electrical field is concentrated in an electrode due to a cusp formed on said electrode. Wire treatment at the end of a 154[kV] dead end clamp for end users accelerates the occurrence of corona, which in turn leads to power loss and noise. In this study, the characteristics of the corona which occurs between porcelain insulators and support clamps of overhead lines used in 154[kV] power receiving facilities for end users were investigated. The corona, which cannot be identified by one common method, was measured utilizing a UV image camera. A risk assessment for fire damage and its status was suggested. The stress distribution of the electrical field by length of bare wire was suggested by means of the finite element method(FEMLAB). As a result, it was found to affect a porcelain insulators. These results can be utilized for the enhancement of clamp installation and safety in power facilities.

      • TRAF1 polymorphisms associated with rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility in Asians and in Caucasians

        Han, Tae-Un,Bang, So-Young,Kang, Changwon,Bae, Sang-Cheol Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2009 Vol.60 No.9

<B>Objective</B><P>Recent genome-wide association scans and replication studies of European populations have disclosed several single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) susceptibility. The aim of this study was to evaluate the RA-associated loci by genotyping previously reported SNPs and additional tag SNPs in a Korean population.</P><B>Methods</B><P>A total of 1,316 unrelated RA patients and 1,006 controls were genotyped for 12 SNPs identified in genome-wide scans and for 12 additional tag SNPs in IL2RB, OLIG3–TNFAIP3, PTPN22, and TRAF1–C5, and the findings were statistically compared.</P><B>Results</B><P>None of the SNPs tested was associated with RA susceptibility, except rs7021206 in TRAF1 intron 3 (P = 0.0032) and, among the SNPs previously reported, rs6457617 in HLA (P = 4.6 × 10−35). The association of rs7021206 was positive in patients who were seropositive for rheumatoid factor (P = 0.0051) or for anti–cyclic citrullinated peptide autoantibodies (P = 0.0062). However, Korean patients were negative for the association of rs3761847 in the TRAF1–C5 intergenic region previously reported in Caucasians. Linkage disequilibrium between rs3761847 and rs7021206 was not as high in Koreans (r2 = 0.37) as in Caucasians (r2 = 0.67), which explains the lack of association of rs3761847 in Koreans. Accordingly, RA susceptibility was localized to an extended haplotype marked by rs7021206 rather than rs3761847, and SNPs highly correlated with rs7021206 (r2 ≥ 0.81) extended from rs1953126 in the PHF19–TRAF1 intergenic region to rs2900180 in the TRAF1–C5 intergenic region, spanning 66 kb.</P><B>Conclusion</B><P>Our results demonstrate that within and around TRAF1, excluding PHF19 and C5, SNPs highly correlated with rs7021206, but not those correlated with rs3761847, are associated with RA in both Asians and Caucasians and are possibly correlated with causative variations.</P>

      • Methylation and microsatellite status and recurrence following adjuvant FOLFOX in colorectal cancer

        Han, Sae‐,Won,Lee, Hyun‐,Jung,Bae, Jeong Mo,Cho, Nam‐,Yun,Lee, Kyung‐,Hun,Kim, Tae‐,Yong,Oh, Do‐,Youn,Im, Seock‐,Ah,Bang, Yung‐,Jue,Jeong, Seung‐ Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2013 International journal of cancer: Journal internati Vol.132 No.9

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The prognostic impact of CpG island methylator phenotype (CIMP) and microsatellite instability (MSI) on the treatment outcome of colon cancer patients receiving adjuvant 5‐fluorouracil/leucovorin/oxaliplatin (FOLFOX) is unclear. We investigated CIMP and MSI status in colorectal cancer patients treated with adjuvant FOLFOX. Stages II and III sporadic colorectal cancer patients who underwent curative resection followed by adjuvant FOLFOX were included. Eight CpG island loci (CACNA1G, CRABP1, IGF2, MLH1, NEUROG1, CDKN2A (p16), RUNX3 and SOCS1) and five microsatellite markers were examined. Disease‐free survival (DFS) was analyzed according to CIMP and MSI status. A total of 322 patients were included: male/female 192/130, median age 61 years (range 30–78), proximal/distal location 118/204 and Stages II/III 43/279. CIMP status was high in 25 patients (7.8%) and 21 patients (6.5%) had MSI‐high tumor. CIMP/MSI status was not significantly associated with DFS: 3‐year DFS 100% in CIMP(−)/MSI(+), 84% in CIMP(−)/MSI(−), 82% in CIMP(+)/MSI(−) and 75% in CIMP(+)/MSI(+) (<I>p</I> = 0.33). Results of exploratory analysis showed that concurrent methylation at NEUROG1 and CDKN2A (p16) was associated with shorter DFS: 3‐year DFS 69% in NEUROG1(+)/CDKN2A (p16)(+) versus 87% in NEUROG1(−)/CDKN2A (p16)(−) (<I>p</I> = 0.006). In conclusion, concurrent methylation of NEUROG1 and CDKN2A (p16) is associated with recurrence following adjuvant FOLFOX in Stages II/III colorectal cancer.</P>

Sensitivity improvement of a thermal convection-based tilt sensor using carbon nanotube

Han, Maeum,Kim, Jae-Keon,Bae, Gong-Myeong,Bang, Younghwan,Lee, Gil S.,Kang, Shin-Won,Jung, Daewoong Institute of Pure and Applied Physics 2017 Japanese Journal of Applied Physics Vol. No.

<P>This paper presents a thermal convection-based sensor, which is fabricated using carbon nanotube (CNT) yarn. The key element in this device is the non-symmetrically distributed, heated air medium around the heater, particularly when it experiences acceleration and/or changes in inclination. Therefore, it can withstand much higher accelerations/inclination than conventional sensors that use a proof mass. However, a major challenge for the design of this type of sensor is the high heating power (in the order of tens of milliwatts) required to facilitate thermal convection in a sealed chamber. In order to reduce the high heating power, CNTs are investigated as materials for both the heater and the temperature sensors. Moreover, this paper discusses experiments that were performed by varying several parameters, such as the heating power, distance between the heater and temperature sensors, the gas medium used, and air pressure.
