Vol.0 No.39

Duck-soo Kang.Jee-sun Kim.Jun-hee Hong. 2007. A Study of Obstruents in Yakut through Analysis of Borrowed Words from Russian. Language and Linguistics 39, 1-16. One of the most important constraints in Yakut is connected with syllabic structure. Its syllabic structure is based on CV. So the constraint of "NoGeminates" is strictly applied. And the harmony between features is also considered important. Yakut has the strict constraint on the phonotactical relations. In Yakut a feature [constricted glottis] works more vigorously than [voiced]. This feature is combined with a feature [+back] or [+lab], making new constraints on the initial place: *#[+back, -CG], *# [+lab,+CG]. Finally, consonantal assimilation in obstruents of Yakut is dominated by 2 lows of constraints. VowelHarmony >> Ident-CV[pl] >> NCP >> *[+palatal]# >> Ident-IO; *#[+back, -cont][+back,-high] >> *#[+back,-CG], *# [+lab,+CG] >> [+cont] >> NoGem >> Ident-IO >> *[+voiced]#

Vol.20 No.1

Group A streptococci and Staphylococcus aureus are responsible for the overwhelming majority of cases of cellulitis. But, streptococci belonging to other group (group C, group G, and in neonates particularly, group B) are sometimes the etiologic agents. Diagnosing the etiology of cellulitis rests on isolating an organism from blood cultures, skin biopsy, or tissue aspirate. We experienced a case of a group G streptococcal cellulitis that identified by blood cultures, which is relatively rare in Korea and treated the patient with cefazolin.

Vol. No.8

Acupuncture is used to treat pathological conditions and to prevent pain from arising. The pathological conditions that can be treated can be painless or painful conditions. Acupuncture analgesia (AA) is a specific form of acupuncture; the stimulation of the acupuncture points must be strong and long (about 15 to 30 minutes) before a local or general analgesia or hypalgesia will develop. Development of modern AA began in the late fifties. Effectiveness of acupuncture in alleviation of pain was quickly noticed and brought to the medical researchers and surgeons. Through their diligent pursuit, AA has been established as a viable alternative for relief of pain and substitution of conventional anesthesia. In veterinary medicine. early successful applications of AA to surgery of domestic animals were reported in the late sixties. Local or regional anesthesia is often preferred to general anesthesia in cattle. Acupuncture was effective in inducing analgesia. Regional electroacupuncture analgesia is potentially useful for standing surgeries in cattle. Some standing surgeries may be easily accomplished using electroacupuncture anesthesia.

Vol.10 No.-

Pain modification is an important part of traditional acupuncture therapies. However, the idea of using acupuncture to alleviate pain has been greatly expanded in the last four decades. It has reached the level that acupuncture may be used as a substitute for conventional anesthesia. Surgical analgesia can be produced by methods involving peripheral or central stimulation, such as Acupuncture Analgesia (AA). The most common method is Electro-Acupuncture Analgesia (EAA), using a special electrostimulator attached to needles in acupuncture points. The major advantages of AA or EAA are its safety in high-risk patients and excellent post-operative pain relief, freedom from complications and enhanced healing which follows surgery under AA. The major disadvantages are the long induction period (10-40 minutes) and variable degrees of analgesia even in skilled hands. The mechanisms of AA involve stimulation of peripheral sensory nerve, spinal cord and supraspinal areas (thalamus, midbrain and hypothalamus). AA can be used effectively in dog. The method has its advantages and disadvantages.

Vol. No.8

A 5 year old, 13kg, Jindo dogs was presented with clinical signs of anorexia, weakness and exercise intolerance, and diagnosed as dirofilariasis by hematology, blood chemistry and ultrasonography. In hematology and blood chemistry, the presence of microfilariae in the blood. anemia, leukocytosis, hemoglobinuria and jaundice were revealed. In ultrasonography, heartworms were found in the right ventricle artery and pulmonary artery as structures of hyperechoic dots or streaks. Because of the dog's poor physical status, the owner requested euthanasia. In autopsy, fifty odd of heartworms were ascertained in the right ventricle and pulmonary artery. Tricuspid valve in the orifice of right ventricle and right atrium, and chordae tendineae were deliquesced.

Diagnosis of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis by using monoclonal antibody

Vol.1 No.-

To develop more specific and sensitive diagnostic methods for infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, 7-C-2 monoclonal antibody specific to polypeptides of infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus (IBRV) was applied in indirect immunofluorescence antibody assay(IFA), indirect immunoperoxidase assay(IPA) and radial immunodiffusion enzyme assay (RIDEA). It was found that IBRV infected in MDBK cells could be detected as early as 8 hours post infection by IFA, and that IFA was more rapid and specific to identify IBRV antigen than IPA. The diagnostic efficacy of RIDEA and SN test was studied with 88 bovine sera. It was evident that RIDEA could eliminate the false positive reaction encountered in serum neutralization(SN) test, being more rapid and sensitive than the latter. Highly significant correlation coefficiency(r=0.76, p<0.01) was evaluated between the titers of sera and the diameters of RIDEA. Tracheal membranes and sera collected from 96 slaughtered cattle with lesions in respiratory organs were examined to detect IBRV antigen and antibody by IFA, RIDEA and SN test. It was presented that positive rates were 32.3% in IFA, 20.8% in RIDEA and 21.9% in SN test, and that coincidence rate between RIDEA and SN test were 100% in positive sera and 98.7% in negative sera. In conclusion, it was assumed that application of monoclonal antibody could improve the diagnostic efficacy of IBR by enhancing sensitivity and specificity of IPA, IFA and RIDEA.

Vol.12 No.-

A 5.2kg, 5month-old castrated male Cocker spaniel dog with 1 month history of generalized scaling, alopecic skin disease was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. On physical examination, lesions were observed on entire cutaneous surface and were characterized by pustules, scales, and generalized alopecia. Skin scraping and tape strip tests of skin lesions revealed cocci and Malassezia infection was detected on external ear canal. Masses of dermatophyte spores surrounding the hair shafts were found by direct microscopic examination. Based on the result of examination and clinical signs above, generalized dermatophytosis with superficial pyoderma and Malassezia otitis externa were diagnosed. Treatment with administration of antibiotic and antifungals combined with topical antifungal cream and shampoo for more than 8weeks had a good result of controlling dermatophytosis.
