With the aging of the world's population, Korea is facing a super-aged society, so active countermeasures are urgently needed. Home modification is an important mechanism for adapting to retirement life and is a key topic that can reduce the national welfare burden. This study attempted to understand the effect of an aging-friendly customized home modification through the reaction of the elderly residents. Accordingly, first the characteristics of the modified features and the residents respectively, second the fit between them for each modified feature, and third the effectiveness of the entire modification through measures of lifw quality such as perceived self-reliance and expectation of continuous residence and happiness. In order to understand the resident response, a graphic scale was used by replacing the 5-step Likert scale text with the FPRS' face icon. The target households were elderly women living alone with physical disabilities, whose houses currently had aging friendly customized modification. Interview and observation techniques were used for the investigation. As results, very positive responses to various dimensions of user benefits were identified for each changed feature of the houses in which the deficiency part of the previous houses were supplemented by modification. In addition, the remarkable improvement of the three aspects of life quality was also confirmed. This proved the overall effectiveness of customized home modification at a limited cost, along with the accumulation of satisfaction with various modified features. In particular, it is meaningful that it has shown the rationality of the customized modification process previously done to improve residents’ self-reliance and expectation of continuous residence which are the core topics and hopes of Aging In Place.

Trans-corporeality tells us that the human body is open and interacting with the outside world, which is nature, environment, other life and non-living things, not humans. In Dawn, Lilith and Oankali constantly interact with each other through trans-corporeality, human Lilith becoming Oankali and Oankali becoming human. Lilith and Oankali recognize each other's differences and advance toward cosmic love by caring for and loving each other through change and creation. Lilith’s sexuality is not limited to maternal love for an ooloi, Nikanj, but a deep love for empathizing and embracing others by putting her whole being into relationships. Octavia Butler changes Lilith’s negative image of “the devil of the night” into a new image with warm love, acknowledging differences and pursuing change and creation through meeting the alien Oankali. During Nikanj’s transformation, Lilith takes care of it with all her heart and accepts the existence of a third sex through her sensual sexuality. When Nikanj is seriously injured in a battle with humans, Lilith is willing to take off her clothes in front of humans to save Nikanj. Lilith and Nikanj promote each other’s growth, and Lilith learns the world of Oankali through Nikanj and Nikanj also learns human emotions and the world through Lilith. And this way, Lilith and Nikanj continue to interact with each other through Trans-corporeality, permeating each other, and moving beyond the creation of an individual to help the creation of others. This is the ethics Butler presents to us in the posthuman era.

The purpose of the current study is to examine the perceived effectiveness of a discourse-based approach to teaching sentence-level EFL grammar. The instruction utilizes movies as a source of discoursal contexts. The study further explores its efficacy when teaching cyber university students in Korea. The research conducted a survey to which 80 students responded. It also used in-class exam scores. A mixed method was applied to analyze the data statistically and qualitatively organize their written answers to the open-ended questions. One major finding is that students aged 30 or older responded more positively to the class while the overall satisfaction was quite high. The perceived effectiveness of the production activities for speaking was also higher in the older group than the younger counterpart. Despite these discrepancies, however, both groups revealed a similar sentiment about the effectiveness of the activities, preferring filling in blanks and sentence writing over correcting errors and creating a story based on their experiences or opinions. The correlation analyses between the students’ in-class exam scores and the perceived effects of activities also showed an interesting association between them. Based on the results, pedagogical implications and suggestions for future research are discussed.
