Commercial bivalent killed Salmonella vaccine Salenvac-T has been used in several countries in order to prevent salmonellosis with Salmonella enterica serovars Enteritidis (SE) and Typhimurium (ST) in poultry. However, this vaccine has not been used in poultry farms in South Korea. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of Salenvac-T vaccine to protect against the challenge of virulent SE and ST, and the effect of the vaccine on egg production and mortality in layer hens. The colonization of liver, spleen and cecum with challenged SE and ST was reduced in vaccinated chickens compared with that of unvaccinated control group. The twice vaccination with Salenvac-T induced elevated antibody responses against both SE and ST detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The higher average hen-day production was observed in the vaccinated layer hens than in the unvaccinated layer hens without significance. The average mortality was lower in the vaccinated layer hens during the experiment period. The antibody responses to both SE and ST were persistently detected in the vaccinated layers. In summary, vaccination with Salenvac-T reduces colonization of internal organs and induces good antibody responses, thereby results in higher performance and lower egg contamination with SE and ST in layer hens.
지역 내 편의점 출점의 효과: 2010-2015 경제총조사 자료를 이용한 분석

본 연구에서는 1인가구의 증가에 따른 소비행태 변화의 한 측면으로 편의점의 증가에 주목하고 이러한 편의점의 증가가 지역내 소매업의 고용과 매출에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 분석을 위해 통계청의 2010년과 2015년 경제총조사의 소매업체 자료와 업체별 위치정보를 결합한 자료를 활용하였다. 우선 시군구별로 편의점이 50%이상 증가한 지역은 30% 미만인 지역에 비해 유의하게 고용이 8.7% 증가한 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 편의점 증가에 따라 점포당 고용은 감소하는 것으로 나타났지만 편의점 수의 증가가 이를 압도하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 편의점은 지역의 임시일용직 증가에 기여하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 편의점은 해당 지역의 고용과 매출에 있어서 대형마트와 보완적인 관계를 갖지만 SSM과는 대체성을 보였다. 마지막으로 편의점 근접출점의 효과를 보면 상권 300m 이내에 경쟁 편의점이 증가할 때 편의점의 고용이 0.2%감소하고 매출도 0.15% 감소하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 양질의 고용증가를 위한 정책과 더불어 편의점 근접출점 규제와 관련한 논의에 시사점을 줄 수 있다.

The aim of this study is to suggest subjects and direction for sustainable development of rural villages. Sustainability assessment system(SAS) which consist of 14 goals and 20 indicators for sustainable rural village were developed using fuzzy logic. And three villages representing a typical rural village of Korea and Japan were selected, and were assessed using SAS developed in this study. As the results, subjects and direction for sustainable development of rural villages; conservation of rural landscape and ecology, promotion of environmental friendly agricultural practice, and stabilization of population composition and economy were suggested.
WWW 상의 자료검색을 위한 효과적인 에이전트 검색 알고리즘의 구현

인터넷과 월드와이드 웹의 확산으로 이를 이용한 정보의 양이 급증함에 따라, 사용자가 원하는 정보만을 빠른 시간 내에 검색할 수 있는 검색 도구의 필요성이 증가하고 있다. 따라서, 본 논문에서는 웹 에이전트를 이용한 효과적인 정보 검색 방안을 제안한다. 웹 에이전트는 사용자가 원하는 정보의 성향을 연관 피드백을 통해 학습하고, 학습된 내용에 따라, 웹 상의 정보들을 필터링 한다. 이와 같은 웹 에이전트의 구현은 웹 상의 정보 표현, 사용자가 선호하는 정보의 성향 표현, 사용자 성향의 학습등 세 가지 요소로 이루어지는데, 본 논문에서는 이 세 가지 요소들의 효과적인 디자인 방법들에 관해 논의하고, 모의 실험을 통해, 정보 검색 에이전트의 실현성과 효율성을 논의한다.

A simulation method to estimate microstructure dependent material properties and their influence on performance for a honeycomb structured SiC heating element has been established. Electrical and thermal conductivities of a porous SiC sample were calculated by solving a current continuity equation. Then, the results were used as input parameters for a finite element analysis package to predict temperature distribution when the heating element was subjected to a DC bias. Based on the simulation results, a direction of material development for better heating efficiency was found. In addition, a modified metal electrode scheme to decelerate corrosion kinetics was proposed, by which the durability of the water heating system was greatly improved.

Salmonella Gallinarum (SG) is known as an important pathogen that causes fowl typhoid in chickens. To investigate SG outer-membrane proteins (OMPs) as a vaccine candidate, we used proteomic mapping and database analysis techniques with extracted OMPs. Also, extracted OMPs were evaluated in several aspects to their safety, immune response in their host and protective effects. Our research has established a proteomic map and database of immunogenic SG-OMPs used as inactive vaccine against salmonellosis in chickens. A total of 22 spots were detected by 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis and immunogenic protein analysis. Eight spots were identified by Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization-Time of Flight-Mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS) and peptide mass fingerprinting (PMF) and categorized into four different types of proteins. Among these proteins, OmpA is considered to be an immunogenic protein and involved in the hosts' immune system. To estimate the minimum safety dose in chickens, 35 brown layers were immunized with various concentrations of OMPs, respectively. Consequently, all chickens immunized with more than a $50{\mu}g$ dose were protected against challenges. Moreover, intramuscular administration of OMPs to chickens was more effective compared to subcutaneous administration. These results suggest that the adjuvanted SG-OMP vaccine not only induces both the humoral and cellular immune response in the host but also highly protects the hosts' exposed to virulent SG with $50{\mu}g$ OMPs extracted by our method.
정상 한우 및 번식장애 한우에 대한 자궁 내 세균 분석

Uterine sterilization is important for improving fertility in cattle. This study compared bacterial flora in the uterus between healthy and repeat breeder cows (RBCs). The uterine flushing of six heifers, 13 healthy HanWoo cows and eight RBCs (HanWoo) were sampled, and 15 frozen semen samples were selected. Overall, 35 bacteria were identified from in HanWoo uterine flushing and semen. The bacterial genera identified from HanWoo uterine flushing were Alloiococcus, Bacillus, Enterobacter, Enterococcus, Erysipelothrix, Gardnerella, Granulicatella, Kocuria, Pantoea, Pasteurella, Rothia, Serratia, Sphingomonas, Staphylococcus, Stenotrophomonas and Streptococcus. The bacterial genera identified from HanWoo semen were Bacillus, Escherichia, Kocuria, Oligella, Pseudomonas, Serratia, Sphingomonas, Staphylococcus, Stenotrophomonas and Streptococcus. The prevalence and presence of the identified bacteria between healthy cows and RBCs differed significantly. Further studies are needed to determine the role of these bacteria in the uterus of HanWoo cattle with reproductive disorder.

Ginseng has been widely used in Korea as a natural medicine due to its saponin contents. Although the total amount of ginseng stem and leaf saponins (GSLS) is 4~5 times higher than that of saponin in the root, the root is mainly used. This is due to two reasons: nervous system-stimulant activity of GSLS and pesticide residues in GSLS. In this study, residual agricultural pesticides were removed from GSLS using two types of bacterial treatments. Two GSLS treatment groups of chickens (GSLS-1 and GSLS-2) were established. The chickens were fed 0.4% GSLS-1 or GSLS-2 mixed with crop. We then evaluated the effects of GSLS on bodyweight and several immune parameters. At the end of the experiments, chickens fed GSLS-1 and red ginseng saponin had significantly higher growth rates (16.6% and 8.0%, respectively) compared to the vaccine control group treated with Noblis Salenvac-T. The group fed GSLS-1 also had the highest IgG titer that was significantly different at the end of experiments compared to the other groups. These findings imply that GSLS-1 is a good candidate feed additive for the chicken industry.

This study was focusing on evaluating the protection of polyphosphate kinase (ppk) deleted and/or temperature-sensitive (ts) Salmonella Enteritidis (SE) as an attenuated vaccine in chickens. We constructed SEppk, SEts and SEppk::ts mutants and screened those mutants by growth capability in vitro, protection study in mice model and antibody response in chickens. Among the mutants, SEppk::ts-3 was selected because it showed higher growth capability, good protection against highly virulent SE in mice model, and good antibody response in chickens. SEppk::ts-3 also showed good protection against highly virulent SE isolate because it decreased colonization of virulent SE challenge strain in spleen, liver and cecum compared with the non-vaccinated control. The SEppk::ts-3 mutant showed cross-protection against S. Gallinarum (SG) challenge although the its cross-protection rate was a little lower than that of SG9R, a commercial vaccine against SG infection. To use for live attenuated vaccine in chickens, it should further be characterized.
