        Characteristics of woodland changes in an agricultural landscape

        Recent landscape changes from human activities, such as agricultural development and urbanisation frequently result in the loss of habitats, the reduction in habitat patch size and an increasing isolation of habitat patches. However, there is little information on woodland changes in agricultural landscapes. Therefore, the aim of this research was to assess spatial characteristics and changes of woodland in an agricultural landscape and how these may have had an impact on ecological process for 33 years. One of the agricultural landscape character units was analysed based on aerial photographs from 1976, 1983, 1994, 2002 and 2009 in Gwangju city. The results indicated that landscape ecological metrics clearly showed that they could be used to monitor changes of woodland ecological conditions during the past 33 years. The results imply that particularly human activities have been leading to the decrease of the mean size of woodland patches and finally result in woodland isolation. These changes may have a negative impact on woodland bird species in the study area. This woodland information can be used to identify the potential and specific needs for setting priorities for conservation planning.

        유리체절제기 파편에 의한 안내이물

        Purpose: To report a case of intraocular foreign body of a vitreous cutter tip fragment. Case summary: A 60-year-old women was referred by her ophthalmologist with a two-day history of visual disturbance in her right eye. She had undergone pars plana vitrectomy, barrier laser and C3F8 gas injection due to pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment in our retinal service center four months previously. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy of her right eye showed cornea stromal edema with Descemet membrane folding. Gonioscopic examination revealed a metallic foreign body in the direction of the 6-o’clock anterior chamber angle. Anterior chamber irrigation with successful removal of the metallic foreign body using intraocular foreign body forceps was performed. The removed intraocular foreign body was a vitrectomy cutter tip fragment 20 gauge in size and 3 mm in length. After surgery, the corneal stromal edema disappeared and her visual acuity in the right eye recovered. Conclusions: Intraoperative breakage of vitreous cutter tips can occur and cause toxic ocular tissue reaction. Care should be taken against vitreous cutter tip breakage during vitrectomy.         베바시주맙이 배양망막색소상피에서 생산된 혈관내피성장인자에 미치는 영향

        목적: 베바시주맙이 배양인체망막색소상피세포에서 생산된 혈관내피성장인자에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 알아보고자 하였다. 대상과 방법: 베바시주맙을 저산소환경에서 배양된 인체망막색소상피세포에 노출시킨 후 VEGF발현과 생산을 Western blot으로 조사하였다. 또한 배양상층액을 이용하여 맥관형성과 세포이동능력을 알아보았다. 결과: 베바시주맙에 노출된 망막색소상피세포에서 VEGF단백의 검출량은 베바시주맙의 농도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다(p<0.05). 또한 맥관형성과 세포의 이동거리와 이동숫자를 감소시켰다(p<0.05). 결론: 이러한 결과는 베바시주맙이 망막색소상피의 혈관내피성장인자 분비에 영향을 미쳐서 혈관신생을 억제할 수 있다는 것을 보여준다. Purpose: To examine the effect of Bevacizumab on vascular endothelial growth factor of cultured human retinal pigment epithelial cells. Methods: Bevacizumab was exposed on human retinal pigment epithelial cells which cultured in hypoxic environment and expression and production of VEGF were tested by Western blot. Angiogenesis was measured with a tube formation assay that uses ECV 304 cells (American Type Culture Collection) and with a migration assay that uses human dermal microvascular endothelial cells. Results: Expression and production of VEGF tested by Western blot respectively were reduced in Bevacizumab exposed retinal pigment epithelial cells which culured in hypoxic environment (p<0.05). Tube formation and cell migration were reduced which tested using ECV 304 cells (p<0.05). Conclusions: These results suggest that Bevacizumab suprpresses the secretion of VEGF by RPE and neovascularization.

        백반증에서 α-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH)과 melanocortin-1 receptor (MC1R)의 발현

        N/A Background: Vitiligo is a skin disease that is characterized by the loss of cutaneous pigmentation. α-Melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) is a neuroimmunomodulating peptide derived from proopiomelanocortin, and melanocortin-1 receptor (MCIR) is a surface receptor which is expressed by several other cutaneous cells including melanocyte and keratinocyte. Both of them have been known to be the main physiologic regulator for integumental pigmentation. Objective : To evaluate the expression pattern of α-MSH and MCIR in the epidermis of vitiligo patients. Methods : Specimens were obtained in lesional, perilesional and non-lesional skin in 10 patients with vitiligo and from 3 normal persons by the punch biopsy. And then, indirect immunofluorescence was done to show the pattern of expression of α-MSH and MCIR. Results: 1. Pattern of expression between α-MSH and MCIR was nearly the same. 2. In vitiligo patients with stable disease state (7 of 10), the expression of α-MSH and MCIR in the non-lesional skin was more prominent than that in lesional area. 3. In vitiligo patients with active disease state (3 of 10), the expression of α-MSH and MCIR in the lesional skin was more prominent than that in non-lesional area. Conclusion: Between the stable and active vitiligo patients, there was a different pattern of expression of α-MSH and MCIR in the lesional skin. (Korean J Dermatol 2003;41(6) : 690~695)

        A study on the environmental tests for auxiliary and control circuits of high voltage switchgears, especially testing condition and requirements, according to the relevant international standards has been briefly reviewed in this paper. As the highest supply voltage of electric power systems have been progressed, testing techniques and testing standards such IEC codes improved and revised keeping step with it. Especially IEC 62271 series, which are applicable to the HV-class switchgears and controlgears have been revised in 2008 newly. In this paper, the special consideration and background information of environmental testing condition with mechanical operating performance, e.g. operation in a higher and lower ambient temperature, for the auxiliary and control circuits of switchgears and controlgears and considerable investigation to the related international standards have been provided. Examples of testing performed were showed and analysis of their test results have been described.

        트리암시놀론이 배양망막상피세포에서 생산된 혈관형성관련인자에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: To examine the effects of triamcinolone on angiogenesis related factors in cultured human retinal pigment epithelial cells Methods: Human retinal pigment epithelial cells were exposed to triamcinolone, cultured in a hypoxic environment, and expression and production of VEGF and PEDF were subsequently tested by RT-PCR and Western blot. Angiogenesis was measured via a tube formation assay using ECV 304 cells and with a migration assay using human dermal microvascular endothelial cells. Results: Expression and production of VEGF and PEDF were tested by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. VEGF abundance was reduced while that of PEDF was unchanged in triamcinolone exposed retinal pigment epithelial cells cultured in hypoxic environment compared with cells with no treatment in hypoxic environment (p<0.05). Tube formation and cell migration were reduced by triamcinolone (p<0.05). Conclusions: These results suggest that triamcinolone affects the secretion of angiogenesis-related factors and suppresses neovascularization. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2009;50(4):594-602

        전조사법에 의한 아크릴산의 폴리에틸렌 필름에 대한 그라프트 반응

        전자선과 γ선으로 방사선조사하여 폴리에틸렌 필름에 과산화물을 형성시킨 다음 산과 FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O 존재하에서 아크릴산을 그라프트반응시켰다. FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O 와 황산의 첨가효과와 그라프트 반응메카니즘을 검토하고, 이들 그라프트필름의 물리적 특성을 검토하였다. 과산화물법에 의한 그라프트반응에서 FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O 와 산을 동시에 첨가하면 FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O 만 첨가한 것보다 월등히 그라프트율이 향상되었고, FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O 를 첨가하지 않고 산만을 첨가하면 과다한 단일 중합체의 형성으로 그라프트반응을 시킬 수 없었다. 산중에서 H₂SO₄와 HCl의 첨가효과는 HNO₃와 CH₃COOH보다 월등히 컸으며, 같은 조사선량으로 γ선과 전자선 조사한 폴리에틸렌에 대한 아크릴산의 그라프트반응에서 γ선 조사한 시료의 그라프트율이 전자선 조사한 것보다 높았다. Acrylic acid was graft-copolymerized on polyethylene film in the presence of additives such as acid and FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O using peroxide grafting technique by γ-ray and electron beam, and the effect of FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O and acid on the grafting yield was evaluated. The grafting mechanism and the physical property of grafted films were also examined. The results showed that the inclusion of FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O in acidified acrylic acid grafting solution was extremely beneficial and led to a most unusual enhancement effect in the radiation grafting. In the other hand, inclusion of mineral acid in the grafting solution in the absence of FeSO₄(NH₄)₂SO₄·6H₂O could not lead to the suitable grafting reaction by the severe homopolymerization of acrylic acid. The addition of H₂SO₄ and HCl led to much higher grafting yield than HNO₃ and CH₃COOH. It was shown that grafting yield of γ-ray irradiated-polyethylene was higher than that of electron beam irradiated-polyethylene.
