Renal tissues of ICR mouse were intraperitoneally injected with Hyulboochucketang(HCE;1.28g/kg/day) after Triton WR-1339(TX;600mg/kg) injection were observed to investigate the lipid accumulation suppressive effect of HCE. The renal tissues were obtained at hour 24,48 and 72 after TX injection that were fixed in fromol-calcium solution and were cryocut. The tissue stained by H&E for general morphology, sudan black B for lipid and perchloric acid-naphthoquinone method for cholesterol. The parietal layer of Bowman's capsule is swelled as cuboidal type at hour 48 after TX injection and the lipid blot and cholesterol particle were noticeably increased in glomerulus than control group. But the parietal layer of Bowman's capsule in HCE treated group was shaped as squamous type that was looked like as normal morphology and the lipid blot and cholesterol particle w3ere considerably decreased in glomerulus than TX group. As results indicated that the accumulation of lipid including cholesterol caused by TX injection were mitigated in renal tissues by the antihyperlipidermic effect of HCE.

The tissue expansion technique has been widely used for coverage of various soft tissue defect since it was introduced to plastic & reconstructive surgery by Dr. Randovan. It is advantageous in facial reconstruction because it makes it possible to resurface even wider defects with neighboring skin similar in color and texture, and superior to skin obtained elsewhere. However, there still remain some problems relating to procedural details, patient selection, design, where to insert it, the number of tissue expanders, the type and size of them, the management of free margines, such as lateral canthus, eye lid, nose, lip. In particular, it is difficult to reconstruct the defect of lateral forehead and lateral orbital area using single conventional tissue expansion technique without distortion of anatomical landmark such as lateral canthus, eye lid, eye brow. Recently we experienced 5 cases of patients who had defects over lateral forehead and lateral orbital area We were able to reconstruct the defects using simultaneous multiple tissue expansion without distortion of such anatomical landmark. So we report our resets and chemical cases along with a review of some literature.

Purification of Glucose Isomerase from Arthrobacter sp. L-3

Arthrobacter sp. L-3이 생성하는 glucose isomerase를 DEAE-cellulose column chromatography법으로 2단계 NaCl농도 구배로 용출함으로서 순수분리하였다. 이것이 SDS-acrylamide gel electrophoresis상에서 단일띠를 보임으로서 매우 잘 분리되었음을 알 수 있었다. Glucose isomerase의 K_m값과 V_max값이 각각 0.175M, 0.29(㎎/㎖/min)로 얻어졌다. 한편, SDS-acrylamide gel electrophoresis와 Sephadex-G100-50에 의한 gel filtration으로부터 분자량이 각각 42,000과 180,000으로 얻어져, 이 효소는 분자량이 42,500인 4개의 subunit로 구성되었음을 알 수 있었다.
