Fibrothecoma are mesenchymal tumors deriving from the ovarian stroma and consisting of theca-like elements and fibrous tissues. The reported incidence is between 0.4 and 8.0% of all ovarian tumors and this side variability can be attributed to the difficulty in differentiation fibrothecoma from ovarian fibroma or hyperplastic stroma nodules. We experienced a rare case of ovarian fibrothecoma in woman at 38 weeks gestation with previous repeat cesarean section diagnosed after tertiary cesarean delivery and bilateral tubal ligation with a brief review of literature.

Pleomorphic adenoma of the palate is the most common of all intraoral salivary tumors. It can occur at any age but it presents most commonly in the 40∼60 age group, and there is no significant sex preponderance. It grows slowly and is usually painless, firm, well-circumscribed nodule. Because of high rate of recurrence, extra-capsular excision including the overlying mucosa and margin of normal tissue is recommended. We report 10 cases of palatal pelomorphic adenoma which have been successfully treated by extra-capsular excision. The surgical defects smaller than 3㎝ in diameter were covered with palatal acrylic splint for the secondary healing. The larger defects were repaired using palatal island flap in 3 cases, rotation flap and buccal fat graft in each 1 case. No patient showed any recurrence or malignant change during the mean follow-up period of 4 years and 9 months. These repair methods seem to be simple, reliable and uncomplicated procedures in the palatal surgical defects.

Dimecron 중독증 환자 6예

The authors experienced 6 cases of Dimecron intoxication, an organophosphate, that required mechanical ventilator treatment. Among 6 cases, 4 cases were intoxication due to suicidal attempt and 2 cases were due to accidental exposure. Among 4 cases of intoxication due to suicidal attempt, only one patient recovered even after aggressive treatments using gastric lavage, mechanical ventilation, atropine and PAM(pralidoxime). Two cases of intoxications due to accidental exposure, 1 case needed mechanical ventilation. Both cases were recovered without any sequele, however. Organophosphate, especially Dimecron, showed high rates of resfiratory muscle paralysis and mechanical ventilator support. The mortality rate of organophosphate agents can be decreased by education, wearing protectors, and aggressive mechanical ventilator treatment when respiratory failure develops.

Object : It is well known that modern chemotherapy against cancer has side effcts to a living body, especially hemopoietic and immunologial disfunctions. However, there are no effctive ways to reduce them.Recently, traditonal Korean herb medicine has been repoted to have some biological modifying responses. Therefore, we hypothesized that additional application of herb medicine during chemotherapy is more effective to reduce its side effects. While we were studying the effects, we have observed the inhibitory effect of Soamgudamikgitang on formation of side effects derived from Cyclophosphamide, it has been used in clinical practice at Kyung Hee Medicd Center.Methods : We injected 200㎎/㎏ of Cyclophosphamide, one time, to an experimental group, consisting of ten mice. We divided them into eight groups: normal, CPX, SAKT 2㎎, SAKT 10㎎, SAKT 50㎎, SAKI 2㎎+CPX, SAKT 10㎎+CPX, SAKT 50㎎+CPX. We injeted Soamgudamikgitang seven days, five days, three days, and one day before we injected CPX. One day, three days, and five days after CPX injection, we injected Soamgudamikgitang again and then killed all the mice.The parameters determined in this experiment were daily body weight liver and spleen weight, RBC, WBC, and platelet for hemopoietic dysfunction and AST, ALT for hepatotoxicity, BUN, creatine for renal toxcity, Iymphocyte proliferation activity and lymphocyte subsets for immunological toxvity.Results : We have found that Soamgdamikgitang has inhibitory effects on the formation of Cyclophosphamide 's side effects. Significant differences between the group, which contained Cyclophosphamide, and the other group, which contains Cyclophosphamide and 2, 10, 50㎎ of Soamgudamikgitang respectively were observed. Platelets(2㎎ of Soamgudamikgitang, p<O.05 ;10㎎, p<0.Ol ;50㎎, p<0.001), liver weight(SOw p.001), spieen weight(10mg, p<0.05), AST(all groups, p<0.01), ALT(2㎎, p<001 ;10㎎, p<O.05 ;50㎎, p<0.01), BUN(2㎎, p<0.01 ;50㎎, p<0.05). Althought immunological in both lymphocyte proliferation and its subsets were not observed, which shows that Soamgudamikgilang has a strong effect on T cell activities Conclusions : From the above results, we can expect that the combined therapy of Soamgudamikgitang and Cyclophosphamide is more effective for treating cancer Patients.

During the past decade, motion simulators have been effectively used for studying the vehicle interaction and developing vehicle system and components in highly controlled and repeatable test environment. Most of motion simulator use a six degree of freedom stewart platform driven hydraulically. Thanks to a high performance 3D graphic accelerator, the visual system generates high fidelity visual scenes, which are displayed on a monitor on the motion platform. But this type of motion simulator has a limited rotational motion. In this paper we designed a new type motion simulator for endless rotational motion and controller for it. This has four degrees of freedom, three rotational and one vertical motion. The real-time simulation system, based on a personal computer with a digital signal processor, supervises overall operation of the simulator.

유아교육기관의 운영관리 및 유아기 프로그램 평가

This purposes of this study were to assess the state of current administration and program contents in early childhood institutes. Using APECP(Assessnt Profile for Early Childhood Programs), assesment data were gathered from 27 apprentices in child care centers and 6 apprentices in Kindergarten in Cheongju. Descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney test were used to analyze data. The result were as follows : (1) The distribution of percentile rate in administration was from 55% to 78%, and the area of Program Development scored the lowest. The assessments for Kindergarten were higher than those of child care center in the areas of Physical Facility, Food Service, and Program Management. (2) As for the program contents, percentile rate was from 62% to 80%, and generally the assessments for Kindergarten were higher than those of child care center. It appears that the certification and assessment system for ealry childhood institutions should be supervised more strongly in order to improve the qulaity of those institutions.

Kinetic studies of nuclsophilic substitution reaction of dabsyl chloride with pyridines have been investigated at 30℃ in a range of methanol-acetonitrile bianary solvent mixtures. The order of magnitude fo reactivity is β-picoline > pyridine > 1.5-N D A > α-picoline to react with dabsyl chloride, especially in case of α-picoline, the reactivity revealed lower than others, it is suggestd that nitrogen atom of pyfidine ring has a steric hinderance by the neightboring methyl group. The value of ρ(-0.96∼4.59) and β(0.36∼0.67) associated with a change of substituent in the nucleophile are large and indicate a realtively advanced bond formation in the transition state. Solvatochraomic correlations were predicted the importance of bond formation transition state, showing a greater contribution of polaritypolarizability (π*) lone paired to hydro-gen bond donar acidity (α). We conclude that the reaction of dabsyl chloride with pyridine proceed via S2 type reaction mechanism, as well as the reaction of dansyl chloride pyridine.

Gene-Based Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Linkage Disequilibrium Patterns of 29 Asthma Candidate Genes in the Chromosome 5q31-33 Region in Koreans

<P><I>Background and Methods:</I> Numerous genetic studies have mapped asthma susceptibility genes to a region on chromosome 5q31-33 in several populations. This region contains a cluster of cytokines and other immune-related genes important in immune response. In the present study, to determine the genetic variations and patterns of linkage disequilibrium (LD), we resequenced all the exons and promoter regions of the 29 asthma candidate genes in the chromosome 5q31-33 region. <I>Results:</I> We identified a total of 314 genetic variants, including 289 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), 22 insertion/deletion polymorphisms and 3 microsatellites. Standardized variance data for allele frequency revealed substantial differences in SNP allele frequencies among different ethnic groups. Interestingly, significant ethnic differences were observed mainly in intron SNPs. LD block analysis using 174 common SNPs with a frequency of >10% disclosed strong LD within most candidate genes. No significant LD was observed across genes, except for one LD block (CD14-IK block). Gene-based haplotype analyses showed that 1-5 haplotype-tagging SNPs may be used to define the six or fewer common haplotypes with a frequency of >5%, regardless of the number of SNPs. <I>Conclusion:</I> Overall, our results provide useful information for the identification of immune-mediated disease genes in the chromosome 5q31-33 region, as well as valuable evidence for gene-based haplotype analysis in disease association studies.</P><P>Copyright © 2006 S. Upshift of Phase Transition Temperature in Nanostructured PbTiO₃ Thick Film for High Temperature Applications

<P>Thick polycrystalline pure PbTiO<SUB>3</SUB> films with nano size grains were synthesized for the first time by aerosol deposition. Annealed 7 μm thick films exhibit well-saturated ferroelectric hysteresis loops with a remanent polarization and coercive field of 35 μC/cm<SUP>2</SUP> and 94 kV/cm, respectively. A large-signal effective <I>d</I><SUB>33,eff</SUB> value of >60 pm/V is achieved at room temperature. The measured ferroelectric transition temperature (<I>T</I><SUB>c</SUB>) of the films ∼550 °C is >50 °C higher than the reported values (∼490 °C) for PbTiO<SUB>3</SUB> ceramics. First-principles calculations combined with electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) and structural analysis indicate that the film is composed of nano size grains with slightly decreased tetragonality. There is no severe off-stoichiometry, but a high compressive in-plane residual stress was observed in the film along with a high transition temperature and piezoelectric response.
