        Many of the growth-promoting properties of growth hormone(GH) are mediated by insulin-like growth factor-I(IGF-I), a highly conserved circulating 70-amino acid peptide. Recent studies have shown that multiple mechanisms influence IGF-I gene expression, including transcription from two promoters, alternative RNA splicing, and variable polyadenylation. In thyroid tissue, thyroid stimulating hormone(TSH) and IGF-I are the most possible candidates for follicular cell proliferation and hypertrophy. Actually IGF-I had autocrine and paracrine effect for tissue growing. We prepared thyroid tumor tissue mRNAs using single step method for detecting IGF-I levels according to different tissues, i.e., thyroid adenoma or papillary thyroid carcinoma. We used Northern blot analysis for IGF-I mRNA and RNase protection assay (RPA) for IGF-I transcription start sites. For Northern blot, we used whole human IGF-I cDNA as a DNA probe and for RPA, we used IGF-I exon 1 containing noncoding promoter 1 as a riboprobe. We got good RNA bands from Northern blot analysis around 1 kb (IGF-IA) and 7.5 kb (IGF-IB) region. To clarify the amount of both IGF-IA and IB mRNAs, we measured autoradiographied signal of IGF-I mRNAs bands using densitometer. In IGF-IA signals, there's no change among liver and thyroid tissues, but in case of IGF-IB mRNA bands, the signal was markedly increased in thyroid carcinoma tissues than that of normal thyroid tissue (85% vs 14%). In the study of RPA, all thyroid tissues used the same transcription start sites as those of liver's. We concluded that that this different regulation of IGF-I mRNA was originated from tissue specificity. That meant some tissue specific transcription factor/s were related to tissue IGF-I expression.

        임상간호사의 사회심리적 건강과 건강지각, 건강관련 행위

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among psycho-social well-being, and health perception and behavior in clinical nurses. Methods: The data were collected from 362 nurses employed at five general hospitals. A self-reported questionnaire was used to assess demographics and job characteristics, health perception and behavior, depression, and psycho-social stress. The data were analysed using Cronbach's alpha, descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: While nurses perceived themselves to be in good health, represented by a high mean for health perceptions, actual health behavior was poor as the mean for health behavior was low. Forty two percents of the subjects were categorized as having major depression and high-stress levels. There were statistically significant differences in psycho-social well-being according to age, marital status, years of employment, and monthly salary. Also, there were significant differences in psycho-social well-being according to health perception, regular meals and exercise, sufficient sleep, job related injury and accident, and absences for ill. Conclusion: In order to prevent depression and improve psycho-social well-being among clinical nurses, organizational support and health management needs to be focused on high-risk nurses. Furthermore, it is essential to consider the health perception and behavior of clinical nurses.

        레더씨 증후군

        The authors report two cases of paratrigeminal syndrome. They were male and involved in the left side, and had no known hypertension. The syndrome was produced and encountered in patients who had undergone a percutaneous carotid angiography and surgery with ligation of common carotid artery for, the treatment of carotidcavernous sinus fistulat. The clinical manifestations were unilateral, intense, throbbing supraorbital and periorbital pain recurring regularly, accompanied by drooping of the eye lid and miosis with normal sweating on the same side as the pain. The cases were treated conservatively with diphenylhydantion and antimigraine preparations with apparent success. It is probable that the underlying pathology of the syndrome in these cases may be compression of the internal carotid sympathetic fibers due to swelling of the internal carotid arterial wall. The clinical features and courses were compatible with those of group 2 of Raeder's syndrome.

        The experiment was conducted to elucidate the differences of isozyme pattern and activity to esterase in susceptible and chlorpyrifos-(Rc), dichlorvos-(Rd) and permethrin-(Rp) resistant strains of female house flies(Musca domestica L.) using the methods of agar gel electrophoresis and filter paper test. And the results were summarized as follows. 1.Esterase isozyme showed eleven bands in the susceptible and three resistant strains by agar gel electrophoresis. 1) Esterase isozyme bands were Estα1β1, Estα2β2, Estα3β3, -Estα1β1 in the head, Estα1β1, Estα2β2, Estβ6, -Estα1β1, -Estα4β4 in the thorax and Estα1β1, Estα2β2, -Estα1β1, -Estα5β5 in the abdomen of the susceptible and resistant strains. 2) Estα5β5 was detected in all part(head, thorax, abdomen) of resistant strains, and Estα4β4 was not detected in the head and thorax of resistant strains. 3) -Estα2β2 showed more high activity in the thorax of Rc strain than the other strains. 4) Only -Estα3β3 was detected in all part of Rd strain. 5) -Estα2β2 was not detected in all part, and Estα3β3, Estα4β4, Estβ6 were not detected in the abdomen of Rp strain, however, those were detected in susceptible strain. 2.Esterase-α and -β activities appeared in the head, thorax and abdomen of susceptible and resistant strains by filter paper test. 1) Esterase-α showed more high activity than esterase-β. 2) Esterase-α activities were 1.15, 1.18 and 1.03 times in the head, 0.87, 1.18 and 0.89 times in the thorax and 0.82, 1.51 and 1.30 times in the abdomen of Rc, Rd and Rp strains to the susceptible strain, respectively. 3) Esterase-β activities were lower 0.66, 0.77, 0.70 times in the head, 0.84, 0.90, 0.90 times in the thorax of Rc, Rd and Rp strains than susceptible strain, but higher 1.19, 1.28, 1.25 times in the abdomen, respectively.

        The experiments were carried out on toxicological comparisons of the new insect growth regu- lators(IGR) against the fall webworm(Hyhamtria cunea) and the house fly(Musca domestica). The LC50 values of tebufenozide, chlorfluazuron and diflubenzuron against the Hyphantria cunea in the 3rd instar stage within the 1st generation collected in cheongju, were 6.0894, 7.7768 and 9.1322 ppm, respectively. In toxicological studies at the 0.5ppm level of chlorfluazuron and buprofezin against the different larval stages of Musca domestica, the ratio of pupation was 20%~35% at the 1st instars, but not shown at the 2nd and 3rd instars, while, the ratio of emergence showed the decreasing tendency at the different stages. In high doses(5, 25, 50, 500ppm) of chlorfluazuron and pyriprozyfen against the house fly in the 2nd instars, the ratio of pupation in chlorfluazuron showed the decreasing tendency at the high dose but pyriproxyfen did not. The ratios of emergence in two IGR showed 0% without regard to dose. In determination(LC50) of the tested IGR against the house fly in the 2nd instars, the ratio of pupation did not show any differences in all IGRs, but the ratio of emergence showed a decreasing tendency with the increasing doses. The LC50 values of pyriproxyfen, chlorfluazuron and buprofezin were 0.0527, 0.0898 and 13.7669 ppm, respectively.

      • 금잔화 잎 추출물의 살충활성과 생리적 특성에 관한 연구

        The experiment was carried out to elucidate insecticidal activity and physiological characteristics of the extrac from leaves of pot marigold (Calendula arvensis L.) against cockroach (Blattella germanica L. ), house fly (Musca demestica L. ), mosquito (Culex pipiens pallens Coquillett), brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stal) and diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.). Each extract was tested by various bioassays, esterase isozyme pattern and esterase activity. The results obtained from the experiment was summarized as follows. 1.Bioassay The extract from leaves of pot marigold showed insecticidal activity against all insect pests. The insectcidal activity against insect pests showed 43, 63 and 81% in the 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm against cockroach, 45, 65 and 78% in the 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm against mosquito, 43% in the 10,000 ppm against house fly, 57, 67 and 87% against brown planthopper and 43, 50, 58 and 73% in the 100, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm against diamondback moth. 2.Esterase isozyme pattern Esterase isozymes were detected in the extract from leaves of pot marigold against insect pests by agarose gel electrophoresis. Esterase isozymes of cockroach showed the bands of Est-α1β1, Est- α2β2, Est-α1, Est-α2 and Est-α3. Est-α1β1, Est- α2β2, Est-α3 in the control, 0.1 and 5,000 ppm, Est-α1, Est-α2 and Est-α3 in the 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 ppm, Est-α1, Est-α2 and Est-α3 in the 10,000 ppm were shown, respectively. Esterase isozyme of mosquito showed the band of Est-β1 in the all concentration. Esterase isozyme of house fly showed the bands of Est-α1, Est-α2 Est-α3 and Est-α4 in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000 and 5,000 ppm, Est-α1, Est-α2 and Est-α3 in the 10,000 ppm. Esterase isozyme of brown planthopper showed the band of Est-β1 in the all concentration. Esterase isozyme of diamondback moth showed the bands of Est-α1, Est-α2 Est-α3 and Est-α4. Est-α1, Est-α2 Est-α3 and Est-α4 in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, and 1,000 ppm, Est-α1, Est-α2 in the 5,000 ppm and Est-α1 in the 10,000 ppm were detected. 3.Filter paper test Esterase-α activities of insect pests against the extract of pot marigold leaves were examined by the filter paper test. Esterase-α activities of cockroach showed 0.98, 0.76, 0.70, 0.57, 0.51, 0.49 and 0.43 times that in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm, respectively. Esterase-α activities of mosquito showed the 0.41, 0.31, 0.36, 0.23, 0.18, 0.14 and 0.14 times that in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm, respectively. Esterase-α activities of House fly showed the 1.30, 0.80, 0.75, 0.65, 0.40, 0.35 and 0.25 times that in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 5000 and 10,000 ppm, respectively. Esterase-α activities of brown planthopper showed the 0.94, 0.81, 0.64, 0.58, 0.42, 0.31 and 0.25 times that in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm, respectively. Esterase-α activities of diamondback moth showed the 0.90, 0.85, 0.62, 0.72, 0.50, 0.27 and 0.22 times that in the control, 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ppm respectively.

        서열 환경에서 농작업 모자 착용에 따른 체온 조절 및 주관적 반응

        This study examined the effects of two kinds of functional sun hats through a head-manikin test a climatic chamber trial for farm workers in summer. Experiment was composed of four conditions. The first condition without any hat(Control). The second was the condition with a sun hat on the market (Hat A). The third was the condition with a functional sun hat made of reflective fabric (Hat B). The last was the condition with a functional sun hat having a ventilating structure as well as reflective fabric (Hat C). For the subjects in the climatic chamber trials, 12 healthy males volunteered. Air temperature, relative humidity and globe temperature in the chamber was maintained at 33±0.5℃, 65±5%RH and 39±1℃ (WBGT 33℃). Subjects did a simulated red pepper-work (50-min work and 10-min rest, twice repetition) for 120 min. As the result of head-manikin test, the surface temperature on middle of back-neck was the lowest in Hat B of four conditions and the surface temperature on top of head was the lowest in Hat C. As the result of climatic chamber trials, there were apparent differences between with (Hat A, Hat B, Hat C) and without a sun hat (Control). In rectal temperature (T_(re)), mean skin temperature (T_(sk)), heart rate (HR), total sweat rate (TSR), The physiological heat strain was less in the condition with hats than is the condition without a sun hat. As the increasing rate in Tre, Hat B is the most effective hat for alleviation heat strain. As the subjective responses, Hat B was the most effective hat for thermal comfort even though the difference was not significant. Hat C was less effective than Hat B and the reason might be the increase of weight due to inserting the ventilating structure.

        비수용인 에탄올-아세톤, 에탄올-아세토니트릴 혼합용매 그리고 메탄올-아세톤,메탄올-아세토니트릴 혼합용매계에서 시안화벤 조일의 가용매분해반응에 대한 유사 일차반응속도상수를 25˚C, 30˚C, 40˚C에서 용매조성변화에 따라 구하였다. Grunwald-winstein plot의 m 값 Kivinen Plotdml n값, Leffer 관계식의 β값을 구하여 용매변화에 따른 전이상태변화를 논의하였고, 각 혼합용매계에 에탄올, 메탄올의 몰분율에 입각한 용매효과를 검토 하였다. 본 반응은 dissociative S?2 반응 메카니즘으로 진행됨을 알 수 있었다. The pseudo-first order rate constants have been obtained for the solvolysis of benzoylcyanide in various nonaqueous binary mixtures, i,e. EtOH-(Me)2CO, EtOH-MeCN,MeOH-(Me)2CO, MeOH-MeCN, by varing the composition of solvent at 25,30,35 and 40˚C. Values of m in Grunwald-Winstein plot, n values of Kivinen plot,βvalues of Leffler relationship have been calculated and studied the transition state variation caused by solvent change, and solvent effect of ethanolysis and methanolysis has been investigated in terms of mol fraction concentration. It has been shown that the reaction proceed vea ther dissociative Sn2 mechanism,using the transition state parameters.

      • 벼멸구 生態型의 交雜種에 對한 水稻品種의 低抗性에 關하여 (Ⅱ)

        This study was performed to evaluate the antibiosis of three different rice cultivars to the BPH biotypes 1, 2, 3 and their hybrid progenies, Nilaparvata lugens STAL. The rice cultivars tested were Chucheongbyeo, Cheongcheongbyeo and Milyang 63. The following characteristics of hybrid progenies were compared with these of their parents; Antibiosis. The results obtained were as follows; The nymphal period of the three BPH biotypes and their hybrid progenies on Chucheongbyeo were shorter than on another cultivars. The biotypes 2 and 2(♀)×3(♂) on Cheongcheongbyeo, and the biotypes 3, 3(♀)×2(♂) and 2(♀)×3(♂) on Milyag 63 were also shorter than another progenies. The adult emergence ratio of the three BPH biotypes and their hybrid progenies on Chucheongbyeo were higher than on another cultivars. The adult emergence was not only high on the biotypes 2,2(♀)×3(♂) and 3(♂)×(♀) in Cheongcheongbyeo but also on the biotypes 3, 2(♀)×3(♂) and 3(♀)×2(♂) in Milyang 63. High emergence of adult was not only shown heavy in body weight but also longevity of female adult was long. In addition, number of eggs deposited was many together with population build-up in next generation.
