        15d-PGJ2 inhibits NF-kB and AP-1-mediated MMP-9 expression and invasion of breast cancer cell by means of a heme oxygenase-1-dependent mechanism

        Activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor  (PPAR) serves as a key factor in the proliferation and invasion of breast cancer cells and is a potential therapeutic target for breast cancer. However, the mechanisms underlying this effect remain largely unknown. Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is induced and overexpressed in various cancers and is associated with features of tumor aggressiveness. Recent studies have shown that HO-1 is a major downstream target of PPAR. In this study, we investigated the effects of induction of HO-1 by PPAR on TPAinduced MMP-9 expression and cell invasion using MCF-7 breast cancer cells. TPA treatment increased NF-B /AP-1 DNA binding as well as MMP-9 expression. These effects were significantly blocked by 15d-PGJ2, a natural PPAR ligand. 15d-PGJ2 induced HO-1 expression in a dose-dependent manner. Interestingly, HO-1 siRNA significantly attenuated the inhibition of TPA-induced MMP-9 protein expression and cell invasion by 15d-PGJ2. These results suggest that 15d-PGJ2 inhibits TPA-induced MMP- 9 expression and invasion of MCF-7 cells by means of a heme oxygenase-1-dependent mechanism. Therefore, PPAR/HO-1 signaling- pathway inhibition may be beneficial for prevention and treatment of breast cancer.

        Korean is exposed to a rapid growth in economy and considerable amount of time for leisure. There is no doubt that the leisure industry is playing a significant role in making our lives enjoyable and therefore leading a quality lift. In a range of research. it has been shown that the essence of leisure functions properly where the degree of leisure satisfaction is high. Thus, this study attempts to identify the cognition of leisure by undergraduate students in Kyongju University and to suggest alternative solutions for then. The research findings and their implications are summarized as follows. Firstly, a large percentage of the students take a serious view of work and leisure. Secondly, the satisfiers of own leisure activity are rather than dissatisfied students, because they regard their leisure activities as reasonableness and soundness. Lastly, students consider leisure as their mental state of comformt and pleasure. The results implies that systematic and in-depth education on the leisure and enrichment of leisure facilities are required in order to become higher students' satisfaction of own leisure activities.

        Tourist have been, is now, and will be increasing all over the world. Therefore we need to tourist activities which are playing an most important role in modern society, in order to manage the activities reasonably. But the tourist behavior of Koreans visiting foreign countries is now in serous problems. The purpose of this study is to analyze this behavior by examining several news in the past 7 years. In result, it is revealed that bad behavior of Korean tourists in foreign countries includes excessive consumption, ignorance of public orders and other unhealthy activities. And short and long term steps are suggested here to eliminate such bad behavior. As for short term steps, we need to control tourist activities directly, to campaigndesirable tourism movement, and to provide information for tourists to choose reasonably. And as for long term and fundamental steps, we need to lead tourists to perform desirable tourist activities by teaching them the true meaning of tourism and the importance of community through lifetime education.

        After analysis of Korean ancient novel CHUNHYANGIUN, it is revealed that 73 expressions are related to leisure. of these expressions, 41 expressions are related to religion and 24 expressions to mirth or pleasure in life. These two types of leisure comprise 89% of this novel. It means that Korean people in the past put stress on th pursuit of pleasure and religious life in the pross of laborious life. The novel has an attribute of leisure in its structure. Koreans in the past tried to be mirthful through leisure, but within the limits of regulations of their communities. In order to shed light on this spirit, we are supposed to make every effort to educate our ancestor's cultural life, especially leisure culture and resonable leisure behaviour.

        고주파수 근사 이론을 이용한 결함으로부터의 초음파 산란장 해석

        본 논문에서는 체적형 결함과 균열형 결함에 대한 초음파 산란 현상을 모델링하기 위한 두 가지 이론을 설명하였다. 동탄성 Kirchhoff 근사 (EKA)와 기하학적 회절이론 (GTD)이 각각 원주형 기공과 반무한 균열에 적용되었다. 이 두 이론은 고주파수 근사법으로 알려져 있다. 모델 결함들에 평면파가 입사하는 경우의 2차원 동탄성 산란 문제를 고려하였으며 산란장을 반사계수와 회절계수의 항으로 구하였다. 원거리에서 산란파의 변위에 대한 입사파 변위의 비를 관찰 방향의 함수로 구했으며 그 결과를 경계요소법과 비교하였다. This paper describes two different theories used to model the scattering of ultrasound by a volumetric flaw and a crack-like flaw. The elastodynamic Kirchhoff approximation (EKA) and the geometrical theory of diffraction(GTD) are applied respectively to a cylindrical cavity and a semi-infinite crack. These methods are known as high frequency approximations. The 2-D elastodynamic scattering problems of a plane wave incident on these model defects are considered and the scattered fields are expressed in terms of the reflection and diffraction coefficients. The ratio of the scattered far field amplitude to the incident wave amplitude is computed as a function of the angular location and compared with the boundary element solutions.

      • 사용후 핵연료 처리공정물질의 핵물질 비파괴분석을 위한 중성자 증배 보정인자에 관한 연구

        The quantity of uranium or plutonium present in bulk samples of metal, oxide, mixed-oxide, fuel rods, etc., can often be assayed nondestructively by means of neutron coincidence counting. The self-multiplication phenomenon, which results from the induced fissions existing within the sample, inevitably generates measurement error. In this study, neutron multiplication effects were investigated by the measurement method proposed by Ensslin, and then the correction curves of neutron multiplication were derived. For this, DSNC(DUPIC Safeguards Neutron Counter), a well-type neutron coincidence counter, was use. In addition, the neutron multiplication effects were verified by comparison with the result of MCNP code. The correction curve obtained from this study will be used to increase measurement accuracy of the well-type neutron accounting sysyem in the future.

        The use of cyclosporine(CsA), a potent immunosuppressive agent, is associated with numerous side effects. Neurotoxicity was earlier less well known, but with growing experience central nervous system side effects are now reported up to 40% of patients. Among various CsA-induced neurotoxicities, tremor is most common and posterior leukoencephalopathy is well characterized. An encephalopathy presenting with pyramidal weakness, however, seems to be rare and poorly documented. We report here a case of encephalopathy presenting with multiple generalized seizures followed by fluctuating quadriparesis developed a few days after starting CsA and resolved spontaneously after withdrawal of the drug . A 48-year-old woman with aplastic anemia was placed upon immmunosuppressive treatment consisting of antithymocyte globulin(ATG), CsA, and methylprednisolone. Two days after starting the therapy, she developed a generalized seizure. The next day she developed 2 more episodes of seizure and the therapy was stopped. Computed tomogram of the brain was normal. Six days after starting therapy, she developed mild motor weakness and paresthesia of both lower extremities, which progressed to a definite quariparesis confining her to a bed in 3 days. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) of the brain revealed asymmetric, bilateral high-signal abnormalites in the subcortical white matter of fronto-temporal areas. After reaching to a maximum with some fluactuation(14 days after starting the therapy) the motor weakness started to be resolved. She was discharged with a almost complete resolution of the weakness 45 days after starting the therapy. Five months later she did well and brain MRI was negative.

      • Listeria monocytogenes Scott A 의 성장과 열저항성에 미치는 유기산의 영향

        유기산(acetic, tartaric, propionic, citric 그리고 lactic acid)에 의한 L. monocytogenes Scott A의 성장과 열저항성에 미치는 영향을 겸토한 결과 각 유기산 0.1%를 첨가한 경우 배양 48시간 동안 대조구에 비해 뚜렷한 성장억제현상이 관찰되었으며, 배양중 pH는 대수적 증식 말기인 12시간째 대조구 5.17, propionic acid첨가구 5.57인 반면 그외 유기산 첨가구의 pH는 4.60~4.88였다. 0.2%의 유기산을 첨가한 경우 acetic acid 또는 propionic acid 첨가구에서는 배양 48시간 동안 성장이 거의 일어나지 않았다. 각 유기산으로 pH 5.0과 6.0으로 조절한 TSB를 기질로 사용하여 65℃에서 1분간 처리하여 열저항성을 비교한 결과 pH 5.0에서는 유기산의 종류에 따라 열처리 효과는 상이하였으며, citric acid 또는 propionic acid 처리구의 log reduction이 각각 1.56, 1.79로 열처리 효과가 가장 높았으며 pH 6.0에서 열처리효과는 유사한 경향을 나타내었다. 각 유기산을 사용하여 pH 5.0과 6.0으로 조절한 0.1M sodium phosphate를 열처리 기질로 사용한 경우 pH 5.0에서 propionic acid처리구와 lactic acid의 처리구의 열처리효과가 가장 높았다. TSB에 유기산을 첨가하여 pH 5.0으로 조절한 후 65℃에서 adherent microlony의 열저항성을 검토한 결과 propionic acid처리구의 log reduction은 1.21을 나타내어 열처리효과가 가장 높은 것으로 관찰되었으며, adherent microcolony는 planktonic cell에 비해 강한 열저항성을 나타내었다. The effects of organic acids on growth and heat resistance of Listeria monocytogenes Scott A were investigated. The growth of L. monocytogenes was inhibited in Tryptic Soy Broth(TSB) with 0.1 or 0.2% of acetic, tartic, propionic, citric and lactic acid at 35℃, respectively. The growth of L. monocytogenes did not occur in TSB with 0.2% of acetic acid or propionic acid during 48h of incubation. The heat resistance of L. monocytogenes was affected by kind of organic acid, pH and heating substrate. L. monocytogenes showed more heat resistant in TSB with various organic acids than in 0.1M sodium phosphate with the same organic acids. Heat resistance decreased as pH of heating substrate decreased. Surface-adherent microcolony was more heat resistant than planktonic cell of L. monocytogenes. Propionic and lactic acids more affected on heat resistance of L. monocytogenes than acetic, tartaric and citric acids.
