        It has been proposed that cytokines may be involved in mediating the characteristic pathological changes in psoriasis, including epidermal hyperplasia, compromised keratinocyte differentiation, and dermal and epidermal infiltration by polymorphonuclear leukocytes and mononuclear cells. The purpose of this study os to assess the pattern of cytokine gene expression in psoriatic skin lesion. To investigate the cytokine expression pattern, we examined the transcripts of cytokine genes using reverse transcription and polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) method with 13 cytokine-specific primers. The Results were as follow; 1. Only the TGF-β gene was expressed in the normal skin. 2. IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-8, and TGF-β were detected in both lesional and perilesional psoriatic skin. The lesions showed more prominent expression. 3. IL-10 and GM-CSF were weakly detectable in three lesional psoriatic skin respectively, and IL-2R in two lesional psoriatic skin. 4. IL-2,IL-4,IL-5,IL-6 TNF-α, IFN-γ were not detectable on both lesional and perilesional psoriatic skin. Therefore, distinct differences in the cytokines gene expression were noted between normal and psoriatic skin. The patterns of cytokines gene expression in perilesional skin were similiar to those of lesional psoriatic skin.

        파킨슨씨병 환자에 있어서 자가부신수질 이식술

        Recent experimental studies and clinical cases have suggested that grafting tissue from the adrenal medulla into the brain may alleviate the symptoms of Parkinson's disease. Autologous adrenal medullary grafts into the striatum was performed stereotactically in two patients with Parkinson's disease. Both patients were bedridden preoperatively, but 4 months after the surgery both became ambulatory and one was even capable of returning to his job. Even though the number of cases was small⑵ and the follow-up period was short, this study shows that adrenal medullary transplantation into the striatum may have some beneficial effects in patient with Parkinson's disease. Further experimental and clinical trials are necessary to see whether this procedure will be a recommendable surgical treatment for patients suffering from Parkinson's disease.

        A synchronous motor started as an induction motor must be synchronized as soon as possible by the application of field at any point. Unfortunately, the dynamic motion equations, describing the synchronized process, that is, describing the pulling-into-step process, are represented by complicate and nonlinear differential equations which have no analytical techniques. However, practical criteria for predetermining with adquate accuracy whether a given motor will or will not pull into step under specified conditions, must be necessarily given. Futhermore, it is impossible to obtain the accurate solution of the closed form by conventional techniques. Even though they are obtained, they does not show the stable regions over 4 quadrants. Specially, the accurate observations about the continuous variations of slip and load angle are very important for the stablized control of synchronous motor and all systems with them. The abnormal and unstable operations such as hunting pulling out and etc. are fatal to the life of machine itself and all systems with them. Therefore, in this paper, the stable regions in the sense of strictness over 4 quadrants, the analytical and the experimental techniques, for cylindrical synchronous motor are introduced in detail. These techniques used in this paper are based on the construction and analysis of Liapunov function, derived from the Lagrange-Char-pit method which is one of the solution techniques for partial differential equations. The theory of the various stable regions and optimal points for applications of field, which can be predicted the success or the failure of pulling-into-step under the variations of load ratio and damping ratio is presented and also is proved by experimental results.

        In this paper, the foaming method of polymer concrete was studied. The pre-composition of polymer concrete consisted of unsaturated polyester as a binder material 15∼50wt%, sand 0∼80 wt%, filler 5-50 wt%, and foaming agent 0.1∼1.5 wt%. The pre-composition was heated at 100∼200℃ for 30∼120 minutes, which thermal treatment caused hardening of unsaturated polyester and cracking of foaming agent. The foamed polymer concrete showed low thermal transfer coefficent together with good mechanical properties.

        The purpose of this study was to reform practically a Korean Judo's Doechigi-Bon(Forms of Counterattack, judo's Gaeshi no Kata, Judo's Uradori no Kata, Judo's Gonosen no Kata) that was established in 1955 Korea, according to changing of techniques by Judo's modernization, in order to have Judo's carefulness and systematic diffusion.       • IL-1 수용체를 통한 T세포 활성화에 Genistein 과 Staurosporin이 미치는 영향

        Stimulation of T-cells through TCR/CD3 complex alone is known to be not enough but also require a costimulatory signal, such as IL-1 stimulation. to induce IL-2 production. In this report, we studied the differential effects of staurosporin (a PKC inhibitor) and genistein (a PTK inhibitor) on the IL-2 production by EL-4 and A2.5 cells, to determine which pathway is responsible for IL-1 receptor signal transduction. While staurosporin suppressed the IL-2 production induced in EL-4 cells upon PMA stimulation but not upon PHA plus IL-1, genistein inhibited the IL-2 production induced by PHA plus IL-1 but not by PMA. Genistein also completey abrogated the IL-2 production by A2.5 cell when stimulated with PHA and IL-1. These results suggest that the costimulatory signal by IL-1, which leads to IL-2 production and proliferation, is closely linked to the PTK activity in T cells.

        만성 정신분열병 환자에서 지연성 운동장애와 음성증상 및 인지기능 장애와의 연관성

        연구목적: 정신과 전문병원에 입원해 있는 만성정신분열병 환자들을 대상으로 첫째 지연성 운동장애의 유병율과 위험인자들을 조사하고, 둘째 지연성 운동장애와 정신분열병의 음성증상 및 인지기능 장애와의 상관성을 조사하고자 한다. 방법: 연구대상자는 마산동서병원에 입원 중인 환자 중 DSM-IV의 정신분열별 진단기준에 부합하며, 최근 3개월 이상 동일 용량의 항정신병약물 복용한 271명(남자 174명, 여자 97명)의 환자들이었다. 지연성 운동장애에 대한 평가는 Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale(AIMS)을 이용하였고, DSM-IV와 Sc-hooler와 Kane(1982)의 진단기준 양자에 부합하는 환자들만을 지연성 운동장애군으로 분류하였다, 정신 분열병 정신병리에 대한 평가는 Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS)와 Schedule for the Deficit Syndrome(SDS)을 이용하였고, 인지기능에 대한 평가는 Mini-Mental Status Examination(MMSE)을 이용하였다. 결과: 지연성 운동장애의 유병율은 50.9%이었고, 50세 이상, 남자에서 높았다. 그러나 입원기간과 항정신병 약물의 일일 사용량에 따른 차이는 없었다. 지연성 운동장애의 호발부위는 혀, 상지, 입술과 입 주위의 순이었다. BPRS 총점 및 소항목 척도점수와 SDS 척도점수는 지연성 운동장애의 유무에 따른 차이가 없었다. MMSE 총점 및 소항목 점수도 지연성 운동장애의 유무에 따른 차이가 없었다. 결론: 평균입원기간이 9년 이상인 만성정신분열병 환자들에게서의 지연성 운동장애의 유병율은 50.5%이었고, 연령이 가장 의미있는 위험인자임을 확인했다. 만성정신분열병 환자들이 주 대상인 본 연구에서는 지연성 운동장애와 정신분열병의 음성증상 및 인지기능 장애와의 상관성은 입증하지 못했다. Objectives: The purpose of present study was to determine the prevalence rate of tardive dyskinesia and to search for its risk factors in chronically institutionalized schizophrenic subjects. We also examined the relationship between tardive dyskinesia and both negative symptoms and cognitive impairments in the same subjects. Methods: Subjects were 271 in-patients(174 males, 97 females) at Masan Dongsuh Hospital. They met DSM-IV criteria for schizophrenia and had been taking fixed doses of antipsychotics for at least 3 months. Tardive dyskinesia was assessed by Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale(AIMS). Cases of tardive dyskinesia were ascertained by the criteria of Schooler and Kane (1982) and DSM-IV. The rating of psychopathology was acquired using Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale(BPRS) and Schedule for the Deficit Syndrome(SDS) and the assessment of cognitive function using Mini-Mental State Examination(MMSE). Results: The prevalence of tardive dyskinesia is 50.9% and the frequency of tardive dyskinesia was high est in male above the age of fifty. But there was no statistically significant relationship between the frequency of tardive dyskinesia and both the length of hospitalization and the daily dose of antipsychotics. The frequency order of abnormal movement in the patients with tardive dyskinesia was as follows : tongue, upper extremities, lips and perioral area. We couldn't find any significant difference in the total and subscale scores of BPRS between the groups with and without tardive dyskinesia. There were no differences in MMSE scores between the groups with and without tardive dyskinesia. Conclusion: This study gave us that the prevalence of tardive dyskinesia was high in chronically institutionalized schizophrenic inpatients and that age was the most significant risk factor of tardive dyskinesia. The relationship between tardive dyskinesia and both negative symptoms and cognitive impairment, however, was not revealed.

      • Prognostic value of the pre- and post-treatment hematologic parameters in locally advanced cervical cancer patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy

        Objective: A high pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) are recognized as associating with poor prognosis in patients with various cancers including cervical cancer. We evaluated the clinical implication of pre- and post-treatment hematologic parameters as a prognostic factor in patents with locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC) who received primary concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 125 patients with LACC (FIGO stage IIb to IIIb) who received definitive CCRT. Clinical factors and hematologic parameters including NLR were assessed at pre and post CCRT. Univariate and multivariate analysis for disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were performed using clinicopathologic and hematologic parameters. Results: On multivariate analysis, post-treatment NLR (hazard ratio HR, 3.643; 95% confidence interval CI, 1.701-7.802; p=0.0009), ΔNLR (pretreatment NLR / posttreatment NLR) (HR, 3.643; 95% CI, 1.701-7.802; p=0.0009), and Δ platelet-to-lymphocyte ( pretreatment PLR/ posttreatment PLR; HR, 2.077; 95% CI, 1.044-4.133; p=0.0373) were significant prognostic factors for DFS, and only post-treatment NLR were significant prognostic factor for OS among hematologic parameters (HR, 12.639; 95% CI, 4.969-32.144; p < 0.0001). However, pretreatment hematologic parameters were not associated with prognosis. Conclusion: Post-treatment hematologic parameters, especially post-treatment NLR, may be a useful prognostic indicator in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer who were treated with definite CCRT.

      • Proposal and Fundamental Analysis of Cylindrical Type Magnetic Flux Pump for High Field Magnet

        <P>We have proposed a new type superconducting power supply, cylindrical type magnetic flux pump (CTMFP) for high field magnet. This paper describes the structure and operating principle based on pumping equations, and also presents its fundamental characteristics by the finite element method (FEM). Since the proposed CTMFP that consists of three phase armature coils, an LTS Nb foil and a cylindrical permanent magnet can easily produce homopolar traveling fields, a pumping current can be generated in the closed superconducting loop. Due to its simplicity structure, the CTMFP has more efficient operation compared with already developed magnetic flux pumps. From the simulation results, appropriately combined conditions of AC current and intensity of the permanent magnet to realize the homopolar traveling magnetic field were obtained.</P>
