Objectives Childhood trauma increases substantial risks for later developing not only mental health issues including psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia but also physical illness. In this study, possible associations of childhood trauma with metabolic syndrome and physical heath indices were tested among outpatients with schizophrenia. Methods A final sample of 46 adult outpatients with schizophrenia was recruited from an outpatient psychiatric unit of Hanyang University Guri Hospital. Participants completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Form (CTQ-SF), laboratory tests and physical measurement including Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist to hip ratio (WHR). The Clinical Global Impression (CGI) scale and the Global Assessment of Functioning scale (GAF) were also administered. Results We did not find significant correlations between total scores of childhood trauma and any of these variables, but physical neglect was negatively associated with BMI (r = -0.329, p = 0.026) and waist circumference (r = -0.304, p = 0.040). Conclusions In this preliminary study, we noted that subtypes of childhood trauma could contribute to physical health status separately. Clinicians need to consider the possibility that childhood trauma may affect physical health as well as psychological aspect of schizophrenic illness.

Pamcreatic pseudocyst is a colledction of necrotic tissue, old blood and secreations that escaped from the pancreas damaged by pancreatitis, trauma and chronic alcoholism, There is no epithelial cell lining the cystic wall. With the advent of ultrasound and CT more accurate diagnosis can be made. Our study was carried out to analyse the raiological and clinical findings of 32 cases of pancreatic pseudocysts confirmed at Wonju college of Medicine Yonsei University form Jan. 1979 to Aug. 1986. The results are as follows : 1. Male to female ratio was 4.3 : 1 Incidence was the most common in4th decades. 2. The most frequent symptom was epigastric pain(100%). 3. In a total of 32 cases, 15 cases had a underlying cause of pancreatitis, 9 cases abdominal trauma. 4. In laboratory findings, serum amylase level was elevated in 23 cases was the most common findings on abdomen films. 5. On chest films, he lungs were mostly normal. Soft tissue mass density in12 cases was the most common findings on abdmen films. 6. UGI series were helpful in directing attention by pancreatic pseudocysts' location and size. 7. Ultrasonogram using primary procedure for the detection of psudocyst(23 cases) disclosed anechoic lesion in 8 cases, mixed echo lesion in 15 cases. Mixed echo patterns, in term of internal echo patters, were echogenic spots(8 cases), septation and echogenic spots(3 cases), fluid-fluid level(3 cases), etc. 8. CT scanning is the best imaging procedure, providing detailed morphologic information about th epancreatic psudocyst and surrounding tissue.
