Background : In recent years, gonorrhea has been pandemic and remains one of the most common STDs in the world, especially in developing countries. Objective & Methods : For the detection of a more effective therapeutic regimen and assessing the prevalence of PPNG, we have been trying to study the patients who have visited the Venereal Disease Clinic of Choong-Ku Public Health Center in Seoul since 1980 by means of the chromogenic cephalosporin method. Results : In 1997. 99 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 45(45.5%) were PPNG. Conclusion : The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul, which had been decreased to 39% in 1996 after a peak of 74.3% in 1993, is increased to 45.5% in 1997.
Multiple Target Angle-tracking Using Angular Innovations Extracted from Noise Subspace

Ryu et al. proposed a multiple target angle-tracking algorithm without a data association problem using angular innovations. This algorithm, however, needs the computational loads in proportion to the square number of sensors regardless of the number of targets, because it uses a nonlinear equation between the signal subspace and angular innovation. In this Paper, we proposed an efficient algorithm for the multiple target angle-tracking using angular innovations. The proposed algorithm extracts the angular innovations from noise subspace. Also, it is demonstrated by computer simulations dealing with the tracking of crossing targets. The simulation results show that the computational loads of the proposed algorithm are $80\%$ and $60\%$ of those of Ryu's algorithm for 3 targets and 6 targets without degrading the performance of the target tracking.

Recently, a problem related to the thermal management in portable electronic and telecommunication devices is becoming issued. That is due to the trend of slimness of the devices, so it is not easy to find the optimal thermal management technology for the devices. From now on, a pressed circular type cooling device has been mainly used, however the cooling device with thin thickness is becoming needed by the inner space constraint. In the present study, the silicon and metal flat plate type cooling device with the separated vapor and liquid flow path was designed and fabricated. Through the experimental study, the normal isothermal characteristic by vapor-liquid phase change was confirmed and the cooling device with 70mm of total length showed 6.8W of the heat transfer rate within the range of 4∼5oC/W of thermal resistance. In the meantime, the metal cooling device was developed for commercialization. The device was designed to have all structures of evaporator, vapor flow path, liquid flow path and condenser in one plate. And an envelope of that could be completed by combining the two plates of same structure and size. And the simplicity of fabrication process and reduction of manufacturing cost could be accomplished by using the stamping technology for fabricating large flow paths relatively. In the future, it will be possible to develop the commercialized cooling device by revising the fabrication process and enhancing the thermal performace of that.
Liquid crystal alignment on rubbed self-assembled monolayers with fluorinated alkyl chain

In this paper, we investigated the vertical alignment characteristics of liquid crystals (LCs) on fluorinated self-assembled monolayers (FSAMs). For comparison, a commercialized homeotropic polyimide (PI) layer was used as an LC alignment layer. We confirmed the successful deposition of FSAMs and the change of FSAMs before and after rubbing treatment through contact angle measurement and atomic force microscopy. The optical transmittance spectrum of the FSAMs is similar to that of the homeotropic PI layer, which is a superior optical characteristic applicable to LC devices. When FSAMs were applied to the vertically aligned (VA) LC cell, uniform and vertical LC alignments were achieved. In addition, the voltage-transmittance characteristic of VA LC cell with FSAMs was superior to that of VA LC cell with the conventional homeotropic PI layers. These results indicate that the FSAMs are suitable as the homeotropic LC alignment layer for enhanced LC devices.

This study was performed to figure out the characteristics of concentration and profile pattern of Unintentional Persistent Organic Pollutants(UPOPs; PCDD/DFs, DLPCBs, HxCB) in the ambient air, atmospheric deposition and soil in Ulsan area. The correlation among the concentration of the ambient UPOPs, depositing velocity, flux and other meteorological factors was examined during the ambient process of the UPOPs. Furthermore, deposition flux from the ambient to the surface was calculated to estimate the contribution of deposition to soil pollution. The result shows that the annual deposition flux from the ambient to the soil in Ulsan was 4.6 ng WHO-TEQ/m2/year, 3.3ng WHO-TEQ/m2/year and 0.2ng van Birgelen98-TEQ /m2/year, respectively. The total amount of UPOPs fluxing into the ground from the ambient air was estimated as 10.9 g TEQ/year. In this study, deposition flux value of TEQ exceeds the European guideline or limit. The profile patterns of UPOPs in the ambient-deposition-soil were similar. From the study, the importance of the soil pollution by the deposition through the atmospheric process of pollutants exhausted from the sources was proved.
