Tumor microenvironment is characterized by low pH, high reactive oxygen species and hypoxia, whichprovides a suitable environment for cancer growth. The hypoxia not only elevates tumor angiogenesisand metastasis, but also is responsible for the development of treatment resistance, which graduallybecomes a significant impediment for cancer therapy. Therefore, we developed a biomimetic nanosystemcontaining hemoglobin extracted from red blood cells, chemotherapy drug sorafenib, sensitizer ursolicacid and photosensitizer indocyanine green for enhanced chemo-photo combination therapy of hepatocellularcarcinoma, which could not only enhance the chemotherapy effect of sorafenib bowing to thesensitizing effect of ursolic acid, but also achieved synergetic phototherapy in virtue of indocyaninegreen. Besides, the nanoparticles could effectively delivery exogenous oxygen to tumor site and amelioratethe tumor hypoxic environment with the assistance of hemoglobin. The dual-sensitization drugdelivery system was expected to effectively reduce the resistance of traditional treatment methodsagainst tumor hypoxia, providing a novel prospect for the synergistic hepatocellular carcinomatreatment.
Quantum Chemical Studies on Nicotinato Lead(II) Complex [Pb(II)(C5H4NCOO)2]
Pu Su Zhao*,Rong Qing Li,Jie Song,Meng Ping Guo 대한화학회 2008 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.29 No.3
The title compound of nicotinato lead(II) complex [Pb(C5H4NCOO)2] has been optimized at B3LYP/LANL2DZ and HF/LANL2DZ levels of theory. The calculated results show that the lead(II) ion adopts 2-coordinate geometry, which is the same as its crystal structure and different from the 4-coordinate geometry of isonicotinato lead(II) complex. Atomic charge distributions indicate that during forming the title compound, each nicotinic acid ion transfers their negative charges to central lead(II) ion. The electronic spectra calculated by B3LYP/LANL2DZ level show that there exist two absorption bands, which have some red shifts compared with those of isonicotinato lead(II) complex and the electronic transitions are mainly derived from intraligand π-π* transition and ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) transition. CIS-HF method is not suitable for the system studied here. The thermodynamic properties of the title compound at different temperatures have been calculated and corresponding relations between the properties and temperature have also been obtained. The second order optical nonlinearity was calculated, and the molecular hyperpolarizability was 1.147754 ´ 10^30 esu.
β-Adrenergic Receptors : New Target in Breast Cancer
Wang, Ting,Li, Yu,Lu, Hai-Ling,Meng, Qing-Wei,Cai, Li,Chen, Xue-Song Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.18
Background: Preclinical studies have demonstrated that ${\beta}$-adrenergic receptor antagonists could improve the prognosis of breast cancer. However, the conclusions of clinical and pharmacoepidemiological studies have been inconsistent. This review was conducted to re-assess the relationship between beta-adrenoceptor blockers and breast cancer prognosis. Materials and Methods: The literature was searched from PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Nature (Thompson Reuters) databases through using key terms, such as breast cancer and beta-adrenoceptor blockers. Results: Ten publications met the inclusion criteria. Six suggested that receiving beta-adrenoceptor blockers reduced the risk of breast cancer-specific mortality, and three of them had statistical significance (hazard ratio (HR)=0.42; 95% CI=0.18-0.97; p=0.042). Two studies reported that risk of recurrence and distant metastasis (DM) were both significantly reduced. One study demonstrated that the risk of relapse-free survival (RFS) was raised significantly with beta-blockers (BBS) (HR= 0.30; 95% CI=0.10-0.87; p=0.027). One reported longer disease-free interval (Log Rank (LR)=6.658; p=0.011) in BBS users, but there was no significant association between overall survival (OS) and BBS (HR= 0.35; 95% CI=0.12-1.0; p=0.05) in five studies. Conclusions: Through careful consideration, it is suggested that beta-adrenoceptor blockers use may be associated with improved prognosis in breast cancer patients. Nevertheless, larger size studies are needed to further explore the relationship between beta-blocker drug use and breast cancer prognosis.

The emulsification by polyelectrolyte complexes is easy to handle, and could be considered as an effectivestrategy for introducing functional materials to liquid–liquid interfaces, but the related studies are stillinsufficient. Herein, a kind of copolymerized ionic liquid (PIL-co-PVIm) which is synthesized from 1-vinyl-3-ethylimidazolium bromide and 1-vinylimidazole, are used as polycation to form polyelectrolytecomplexes type Pickering emulsifiers with sodium alginate, poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) and poly(acrylic acid) sodium salt respectively as polyanion. For toluene-water emulsion systems andhydrophobic ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([BMIm]PF6)-watersystem, the polyelectrolyte complexes formed by PIL-co-PVIm and sodium alginate or poly (sodium4-styrenesulfonate) showed best emulsification capability. The emulsions stabilized by the polyelectro-lyte complexes at stoichiometric ratio are relatively less stable compared to non-stoichiometriccomplexes, while PIL-co-PVIm without complexation has no emulsification capability. The polyelectro-lyte complexes based on homopolymerized PIL give an unsatisfied emulsification capability, while theemulsification performance could be remarkably improved by copolymerizing ionic liquids with theuncharged comonomer, but excessive contents of the uncharged unit make the polyelectrolytecomplexes less interface active. The sheet-like PECs are formed in aqueous dispersions, and theirthickness is remarkably reduced at oil–water interface after emulsification, approximately ranging from200 nm to 10 nm by manipulating the polyanion.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the role of programmed cell death 4 (PDCD4) expression in predicting tumor response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and outcomes for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. Methods: Clinicopathological factors and expression of PDCD4 were evaluated in 92 patients with LARC treated with nCRT. After the completion of therapy, 4 cases achieved clinical complete response (cCR), and thus the remaining 88 patients underwent a standardized total mesorectal excision procedure. There were 38 patients (41.3%) with a good response (TRG 3-4) and 54 (58.7%) with a poor one (TRG 0-2). Results: Immunohistochemical staining analyses showed that patients with high expression of PDCD4 were more sensitive to nCRT than those with low PDCD4 expression (P=0.02). High PDCD4 expression before nCRT and good response (TRG3-4) were significantly associated with improved 5-year disease-free survival and 5-year overall survival (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the pretreatment PDCD4 expression was an independent prognostic factor. Conclusion: Our study demonstrated that high expression of PDCD4 protein is a useful predictive factor for good tumor response to nCRT and good outcomes in patients with LARC.
