Relationship between Fusion Mass Shift and Postoperative Distal Adding-on in Lenke 1 Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis after Selective Thoracic Fusion

        Li Yang,Li Jianlong,Luk Keith D. K.,Zhang Chenggui,Sun Jianmin,Wang Guodong 대한척추외과학회 2023 Asian Spine Journal Vol.17 No.6

Study Design: This is a retrospective cohort study.Purpose: This study aims to investigate the risk factors for postoperative distal adding-on in Lenke 1 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) and validate the relationship between fusion mass shift (FMS) and postoperative distal adding-on.Overview of Literature: Postoperative distal curve adding-on is one of the complications in AIS. FMS has been proposed to prevent postoperative distal adding-on, which requires further validation from different institutions. Methods: This study included 60 patients with Lenke 1 AIS who underwent selective thoracic fusion surgery. Coronal spinal alignment parameters were analyzed preoperatively, postoperatively, and at the final follow-up. The postoperative FMS was divided into two groups: the balanced group (FMS ≤20 mm) and the unbalanced group (FMS >20 mm). An independent t-test was used to compare quantitative data between groups, and a chi-square test was used for qualitative data. Furthermore, binary logistic regression and receiver operating characteristics curve analyses were used to identify the risk factors for postoperative distal adding-on in AIS.Results: At 2-year follow-up, the unbalanced group was more likely to have adding-on (17 of 24 patients) than the balanced group (six of 36 patients; p<0.001). Twenty-three patients with distal adding-on had significantly greater preoperative and postoperative lower instrumented vertebrae (LIV) rotation, FMS, and FMS angle (FMSA) than those without postoperative distal adding-on. Binary logistic regression analysis selected three independent risk factors for adding-on incidence after surgery: FMS (odds ratio [OR], 1.115; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.049–1.185; p<0.001), FMSA (OR, 1.590; 95% CI, 1.225–2.064; p<0.001), and postoperative LIV rotation (OR, 6.581; 95% CI, 2.280–19.000; p<0.001).Conclusions: Achieving a balanced fusion mass intraoperatively is important to avoid postoperative distal adding-on, with FMS of <20 mm and FMS angle of <4.5°. Furthermore, correcting LIV rotation helps to decrease the incidence of postoperative distal addingon.

Flow Field Analysis of Lubricating Air Film in Aerostatic Restrictor with Double U-shaped Pressure-Equalizing Grooves

        Jianlong Yin,Jing Yu,Cheng Lou,Dongsheng Li,Xiaoyan Shen,Ming Li 한국정밀공학회 2023 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.24 No.2

In an aerostatic restrictor, the presence of friction between the high-pressure air and the aerostatic restrictor wall can lead to non-uniform pressure and temperature distributions of the lubricating air film, which will affect the aerostatic restrictor performance. Therefore, explicating the pressure and temperature distributions of the lubricating air film could help to improve the characteristics and performance of the aerostatic restrictor. In this study, a theoretical model is established for the pressure and temperature distributions in the aerostatic restrictor with double U-shaped pressure-equalizing grooves, which is then compared with simulations, and finally verified by experiments. The results indicate the following. (1) The parameter distributions of the aerostatic restrictor’s air film are affected by the pressure-equalizing grooves and the orifice. (2) The air film parameter distributions are affected by the air source pressure and air film thickness. (3) The air film parameter distribution characteristics obtained from theoretical calculations, simulations, and experiments are consistent, indicating that the theoretical model is effective for studying the flow field of lubricating air film in the aerostatic restrictor. This model can also provide a theoretical basis for designing the orifice and pressure-equalizing grooves of the aerostatic restrictor, as well as selecting the air source pressure and air film thickness.

PM2.5 in poultry houses synergizes with Pseudomonas aeruginosa to aggravate lung inflammation in mice through the NF-κB pathway

        Meng Li,Xiuli Wei,Youzhi Li,Tao Feng,Linlin Jiang,Hongwei Zhu,Xin Yu,Jinxiu Tang,Guozhong Chen,Jianlong Zhang,Xingxiao Zhang 대한수의학회 2020 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.21 No.3

Background: High concentrations of particulate matter less than 2.5 µm in diameter (PM2.5) in poultry houses is an important cause of respiratory disease in animals and humans. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that can induce severe respiratory disease in animals under stress or with abnormal immune functions. When excessively high concentrations of PM2.5 in poultry houses damage the respiratory system and impair host immunity, secondary infections with P. aeruginosa can occur and produce a more intense inflammatory response, resulting in more severe lung injury. Objectives: In this study, we focused on the synergistic induction of inflammatory injury in the respiratory system and the related molecular mechanisms induced by PM2.5 and P. aeruginosa in poultry houses. Methods: High-throughput 16S rDNA sequence analysis was used for characterizing the bacterial diversity and relative abundance of the PM2.5 samples, and the effects of PM2.5 and P. aeruginosa stimulation on inflammation were detected by in vitro and in vivo. Results: Sequencing results indicated that the PM2.5 in poultry houses contained a high abundance of potentially pathogenic genera, such as Pseudomonas (2.94%). The lung tissues of mice had more significant pathological damage when co-stimulated by PM2.5 and P. aeruginosa, and it can increase the expression levels of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor-α through nuclear factor (NF)-κB pathway in vivo and in vitro. Conclusions: The results confirmed that poultry house PM2.5 in combination with P. aeruginosa could aggravate the inflammatory response and cause more severe respiratory system injuries through a process closely related to the activation of the NF-κB pathway.

Anesthetic Management and Outcomes of Endovascular Treatment of Basilar Artery Occlusion: Results From the ATTENTION Registry

        Tao Chunrong,Yuan Guangxiong,Xu Pengfei,Wang Hao,Zhou Peiyang,Yi Tingyu,Li Kai,Cui Tao,Gao Jun,Li Rui,Sun Jun,Zhang Chao,Wang Li,Liu Tianlong,Song Jianlong,Yin Yamei,Nguyen Thanh N.,Li Qing,Hu Wei 대한뇌졸중학회 2023 Journal of stroke Vol.25 No.3

Background and Purpose To examine the clinical and safety outcomes after endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute basilar artery occlusion (BAO) with different anesthetic modalities. Methods This was a retrospective analysis using data from the Endovascular Treatment for Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion (ATTENTION) registry. Patients were divided into two groups defined by anesthetic modality performed during EVT: general anesthesia (GA) or non-general anesthesia (non-GA). The association between anesthetic management and clinical outcomes was evaluated in a propensity score matched (PSM) cohort and an inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) cohort to adjust for imbalances between the two groups. Results Our analytic sample included 1,672 patients from 48 centers. The anesthetic modality was GA in 769 (46.0%) and non-GA in 903 (54.0%) patients. In our primary analysis with the PSM-based cohort, non-GA was comparable to GA concerning the primary outcome (adjusted common odds ratio [acOR], 1.01; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82 to 1.25; P=0.91). Mortality at 90 days was 38.4% in the GA group and 35.8% in the non-GA group (adjusted risk ratio, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.83 to 1.08; P=0.44). In our secondary analysis with the IPTW-based cohort, the anesthetic modality was significantly associated with the distribution of modified Rankin Scale at 90 days (acOR: 1.45 [95% CI: 1.20 to 1.75]). Conclusion In this nationally-representative observational study, acute ischemic stroke patients due to BAO undergoing EVT without GA had similar clinical and safety outcomes compared with patients treated with GA. These findings provide the basis for large-scale randomized controlled trials to test whether anesthetic management provides meaningful clinical effects for patients undergoing EVT.

Characterization of the global transcriptome and microsatellite marker information for spotted halibut Verasper variegatus

        Jianlong Ge,Siqing Chen,Changlin Liu,Li Bian,Huiling Sun,Jie Tan 한국유전학회 2017 Genes & Genomics Vol.39 No.3

The spotted halibut Verasper variegatus is an economically important flatfish species distributed in Japan, Korea and China. However, the genomic resources regarding this species were scarcity, which hindered our understanding of the genetics and biological mechanisms in spotted halibut. In this study, we examined the global transcriptome from six major tissues of spotted halibut. Approximately 40 million of high quality reads were generated using Illumina paired-end sequencing technology. More than 9 Gbp data were generated, and de novo assembled into 59,235 unigenes, with an N50 of 938 bp. Based on sequence similarity search with known protein database, 34,084 (57.5%) showed significant similarity to known proteins in Nr database, and 28,875 (48.7%) had BLAST hits in Swiss-Prot database. 19,562 and 23,037 unigenes were assigned into gene ontology categories and clusters of orthologous group, respectively. 9138 unigenes were mapped to 211 KEGG pathways. For functional marker development, 13,322 candidate simple sequence repeats were identified in the transcriptome and 7235 primer pairs were successfully designed. Among 72 primer pairs selected for validation, 67 (93.1%) were successful in PCR amplification and 14 (19.4%) exhibited obvious repeat length polymorphisms in a culture spotted halibut population. The transcriptomic data and microsatellite markers will provide valuable resources for future functional gene analyses, genetic map construction, and quantitative trait loci mapping in V. variegatus.

      • Analysis on Device Mechanism and Numerical Simulation of Composite Air Purification

Jianlong Liu,Peng Liu,Li Liu,Haiping Zhang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Hybrid Information Techno Vol.9 No.12

To solve the technical problems existing in air purification, a multileveled air purification device is presented. And the new device consists of catalytic purifying technology, low-temperature plasma, nanoscaled titania and dual-band ultraviolet. To deeply take a research on performance of the composite purification device, the device has been numerically simulated, with CFD simulation technology, through employing gas phase turbulence model, porous medium model and stochastic particle trajectory model. Comparative analyses on pressure distribution of internal flow field, velocity distribution, particle motion state and mass concentration distribution are made under different wind speed. The most appropriate wind speed can provide better centrifugal effect and less pressure loss. So some rules of velocity, pressure distribution and the particulate mass concentration distribution at all levels after filtering in internal device are acquired. In the meanwhile, a comparison among different research results has been made, and it helps to prove the reliability of this method.

Transcriptome analysis of gene expression patterns during embryonic development in golden cuttlefish (Sepia esculenta)

        Li Bian,Changlin Liu,Siqing Chen,Fazhen Zhao,Jianlong Ge,Jie Tan 한국유전학회 2018 Genes & Genomics Vol.40 No.3

Golden cuttlefish (Sepia esculenta) is an important economic species in China. Because of the rapid decline of its natural resource, researchers are exploring breeding technique for this species. The major obstacle that hinders artificial breeding of S. esculenta is the low larvae survival rate. Mortality is especially high during the mouth-opening stage. Investigating the embryogenesis before the first feed could provide theoretical guidance for reproduction control and breeding of S. esculenta and other Sepia species. In this study, we analyzed the dynamics of the S. esculenta transcriptome along different stages of embryonic development by mRNA-sEq. Our bioinformatics protocol identified 1492 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) across the early developmental stages. Gene ontology enrichment analysis showed that the DEGs were significantly involved in developmental processes and molecular functions, including chitin metabolic process, peptidase activity, catalytic activity, and calcium ion binding. Our results indicated that genes related to cuttlebone development and gene regulation functions were active during the early life phase of S. esculenta. Hierarchical clustering of the DEGs reflected the successiveness of the developmental stages, revealing that gene expression patterns of neighboring stages were similar. The DEG analysis allowed us to identify specific genes and relevant biological pathways to better understand the molecular mechanisms during each developmental stage. This study provides novel insights into the processes underlying the early developmental stages of S. esculenta. The transcriptomic data and identified genes will serve as valuable references for the developmental biology of this species and will help promote its aquaculture research.

Study of the Effective Field Emitting Angle for an Individual Carbon Nanotube

        Nannan Li,Zhe Wu,Jianlong Liu,Hai Zhang,Jing Guo,Baoqing Zeng 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.63 No.6

In this work, the effective field emitting angle θeff is introduced for a carbon nanotube (CNT)to relate the spatial variation of the current density along the tip’s surface to the emission current. The emission current can now be calculated by using I = 2π(1-cosθeff )r2J(0), where J(0) is theemission current density at the apex and r is the radius of curvature of the tips. Analytical resultsshow that θeff depends on the macroscopic field E0, the aspect ratio h/r and the normalized fielddistribution on the tip’s surface E(θ)/E(0). Simulation results show that E(θ)/E(0) converges withincreasing h/r and can be fitted by using a formula when h/r > 500. Finally, a fit function for θeff is obtained for h/r > 500 and E0 in the range of 1 - 25 V/µm.

Development, characterization, and inheritance of 113 novel EST-SSR markers in the Pacific oyster (Crassostrea gigas)

        Qi Li,Qingzhi Wang,Mingjun Qi,Jianlong Ge,Rihao Cong 한국유전학회 2011 Genes & Genomics Vol.33 No.3

A total of 113 novel EST-derived simple sequence repeat (EST-SSR) markers were developed in the Pacific oyster (Crassotrea gigas). Polymorphisms of these markers were evaluated in a wild population of 30 individuals. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 2 to 27 with an average of 6.3, and the observed and expected heterozygosities varied from 0 to 0.9667 and from 0.0333 to 0.9701, respectively. Mendelian segregations were tested for 24 of the markers that were polymorphic in one family produced by single-pair mating. Null alleles were discovered at four loci. Nine tests of segregation ratios revealed significant departures from expected Mendelian ratios. As a useful addition to the collection of the microsatellites that are now available for C. gigas, these EST-SSR markers will help the advance in investigation of QTL mapping and genetic diversity in this species.

Model for Predicting Resilient Modulus of Unsaturated Subgrade Soils in South China

        Yongsheng Yao,Jianlong Zheng,Junhui Zhang,Junhui Peng,Jue Li 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.6

Subgrade soils are often unsaturated and the resilient modulus (MR) of subgrade soils is usually subjected to the climate environment andtraffic loading in the field. Therefore, the Matric Suction (MS) and traffic loading are considered to be two important parametersassociated to the MR prediction model. To verify the MR prediction model, the MS of the typical subgrade soil were determined throughthe pressure plate test. In this study, the soil-water characteristic curves were also described using the Fredlund & Xing’s model. Then, the dynamic MR of the typical subgrade soil under various stresses and water contents was measured. After that, a new prediction modelwas proposed with the model variables including the minimum bulk stress, octahedral sheer stress and matric suction, and the validity ofthe new model was verified by previous research results. Finally, the correlations between the physical properties of subgrade soilsincluding the percentage passing through the No. 200 sieve (0.075 mm), plasticity index, liquid limit, dry density and the regressioncoefficients of the new model were established. The results show that the new model can be used to predict the MR well, and it effectivelysolves the problem that the bulk stress is equal with a different combinations of the confining pressure and deviator stress. At the sametime, the MR can be predicted much more easily with physical parameters of subgrade soils rather than conducting triaxial tests.
