        Thyroid-Associated Orbitopathy: Evaluating Microstructural Changes of Extraocular Muscles and Optic Nerves Using Readout-Segmented Echo-Planar Imaging-Based Diffusion Tensor Imaging

        Objective: We aimed to investigate the ability of readout-segmented echo-planar imaging (rs-EPI)-based diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in assessing the microstructural change of extraocular muscles (EOMs) and optic nerves in patients with thyroidassociated orbitopathy (TAO) as well as in evaluating disease activity. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 35 TAO patients and 22 healthy controls (HCs) who underwent pre-treatment rs-EPIbased DTI. Mean, axial, and radial diffusivity (MD, AD, and RD) and fractional anisotropy (FA) of the medial and lateral EOMs and optic nerve for each orbit were calculated and compared between TAO and HC groups and between active and inactive TAO groups. Factors such as age, sex, disease duration, mediation, and smoking history between groups were also compared. Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the predictive value of significant variables for disease activity. Results: Disease duration was significantly shorter in active TAOs than in inactive ones (p < 0.001). TAO patients showed significantly lower FA and higher MD, AD, and RD than HCs for both medial and lateral EOMs (p < 0.001), but not the AD value of lateral EOMs (p = 0.619). Active patients had significantly higher FA, MD, and AD than inactive patients for medial EOMs (p < 0.005), whereas only FA differed significantly in the lateral EOMs (p = 0.018). The MD, AD, and RD of optic nerves were significantly lower in TAO patients than HCs (p < 0.05), except for FA (p = 0.129). Multivariate analysis showed that the MD of medial EOMs and disease duration were significant predictors for disease activity. The combination of these two parameters showed optimal diagnostic efficiency for disease activity (area under the curve, 0.855; sensitivity, 68.4%; specificity, 96.9%). Conclusion: rs-EPI-based DTI is promising in assessing microstructural changes of EOMs and optic nerves and can help to indicate the disease activity of TAO, especially through the MD of medial EOMs.

      • Analysis on Evolutionary Sequence of Bauxite Ore in the Wuchuan-Zheng’ an -Daozhan area, Northern Guizhou, China

        Bauxite ore in the Wuchua-Zheng, an-Daozhan area, Northern Guizhou Province can be divided into 4 basic types: massive bauxite, clastic bauxite, oolithic bauxite and earthy bauxite. We find the four ores are kept in a continuous evolution from our comprehensive analysis on bauxite color, texture, composition and elements though they differ largely in texture and composition. Massive bauxite is the basic form of bauxite ore, earthy bauxite is the final form, and the basic evolutionary sequence of bauxite ore is: massive → clastic → oolithic → earthy or it can directly evolve from massive bauxite or clastic bauxite into earthy bauxite without oolithic bauxite process.

        Anesthetic Management and Outcomes of Endovascular Treatment of Basilar Artery Occlusion: Results From the ATTENTION Registry

        Background and Purpose To examine the clinical and safety outcomes after endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute basilar artery occlusion (BAO) with different anesthetic modalities. Methods This was a retrospective analysis using data from the Endovascular Treatment for Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion (ATTENTION) registry. Patients were divided into two groups defined by anesthetic modality performed during EVT: general anesthesia (GA) or non-general anesthesia (non-GA). The association between anesthetic management and clinical outcomes was evaluated in a propensity score matched (PSM) cohort and an inverse probability of treatment weighting (IPTW) cohort to adjust for imbalances between the two groups. Results Our analytic sample included 1,672 patients from 48 centers. The anesthetic modality was GA in 769 (46.0%) and non-GA in 903 (54.0%) patients. In our primary analysis with the PSM-based cohort, non-GA was comparable to GA concerning the primary outcome (adjusted common odds ratio [acOR], 1.01; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.82 to 1.25; <i>P</i>=0.91). Mortality at 90 days was 38.4% in the GA group and 35.8% in the non-GA group (adjusted risk ratio, 0.95; 95% CI, 0.83 to 1.08; <i>P</i>=0.44). In our secondary analysis with the IPTW-based cohort, the anesthetic modality was significantly associated with the distribution of modified Rankin Scale at 90 days (acOR: 1.45 [95% CI: 1.20 to 1.75]). Conclusion In this nationally-representative observational study, acute ischemic stroke patients due to BAO undergoing EVT without GA had similar clinical and safety outcomes compared with patients treated with GA. These findings provide the basis for large-scale randomized controlled trials to test whether anesthetic management provides meaningful clinical effects for patients undergoing EVT.

      • A Hybrid Feature Gene Selection Method based on Fuzzy Neighborhood Rough Set with Information Entropy

        DNA microarray technique can detect tens of thousands of genes activity in cells and has been widely used in clinical diagnosis. However, microarray data has the characteristics of high dimension and small samples, moreover many irrelevant and redundant genes also decrease performance of classification algorithm. Feature gene selection is an effective method to solve this problem. This paper proposes a hybrid feature gene selection method. Firstly, a lot of irrelevant genes from original data were eliminated by using reliefF algorithm, and the candidate feature genes subset is obtained; Secondly, Fuzzy neighborhood rough set with information entropy which deals directly with continuous data is proposed to reduce redundant genes among genes subset above. Here, differential evolution algorithm is used to optimize radius before reduction by using fuzzy neighborhood rough set, because radius of neighborhood greatly affects reduction performance. The simulation results on six microarray datasets indicate that our method can obtain higher classification accuracy by using as few genes as possible, especially feature genes selected are important for understanding microarray data and identifying the pathogenic genes. The results demonstrated that this method is effective and efficient for feature genes selection.

      • Study and Application of Evaluation Hierarchy on Power Supply Capability of Distribution Network

        Against the lack of quantitative assessment method on power supply capability of distribution network, evaluation hierarchy on power supply capability of distribution network is proposed. In addition to some common indices, the hierarchy includes some new indices such as "load balancing degree of main transformers, substations and lines", "coordination of power supply between high and medium voltage network", "matching degree of power supply and transmission capability" etc. Besides that, evaluation process is put forward. In accordance with urban and rural areas, the respective adaptive scoring standards and weight values are given. The power supply capabilities of distribution network of two districts in Chongqing, China are evaluated based on the hierarchy proposed in this paper. The example proves that the method and evaluation hierarchy can not only evaluate the power supply of distribution network scientifically, find the weak link, but also guide the planning and construction of network.

      • A Novel Selective Ensemble Classification of Microarray Data Based on Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization

        Aiming at the characteristics of high dimension and small samples in microarray data, this paper proposes a selective ensemble method to classify microarray data. Firstly, kruskal-wallis test is used to filter irrelevant genes with classification task and to obtain a set of genes, and then a reduced training set is produced from original training set according to gene subset obtained. Secondly, multiple gene subsets are generated by using neighborhood rough set model with different radius and used to construct training subsets on above reduced training set. Thirdly, every constructed training subset is used to train a classifier by using SVM algorithm, and then multiple classifiers are produced as base classifiers. Finally, a set of base classifiers are selected by using teaching-learning-based optimization and build an ensemble classifier by weighted voting. Five benchmarks tumor microarray datasets are applied to evaluate performance of our proposed method. Experimental results indicate our proposed method is very effective and efficient for classifying microarray data, and it improves not only classification accuracy, but also decrease memory costs and computation times.

        Calibration of Wavefront Phase Image Using Phase-Shifting Iteration Algorithm in Quadriwave Lateral Shearing Interferometry

        A phase-shifting iterative algorithm is proposed to calibrate the wavefront phase image demodulated from an interferogram generated by quadriwave lateral shearing interferometer. It reduces the error of the residual slope to RMS < 1.5×10 −4λ after calibration. A favorable result was obtained in the present experiment. We measured a certain wavefront provided by a deformable mirror using the quadriwave lateral shearing interferometer after calibration. The deviation between the wavefront graph of the deformable mirror and the wavefront constructed by quadriwave later shearing interferometer was 2.63%. Our method increases the accuracy and reliability of the reconstructed wavefront data and has a high practical value, all of which meets the requirement of high-precision wavefront sensing.

        Preparation of porous and hollow Mn2O3 microspheres and their adsorption studies on heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions

        Mn2O3 microspheres are prepared and used as adsorbent for removal of heavy metal ions. Morphology and structure of Mn2O3 microspheres are analyzed by SEM, TEM, XRD, XPS and N2 sorption technique. Effects of adsorbent concentration, ion concentration and agitation time on adsorption behavior are investigated. Adsorption isotherm and kinetics are also studied. The results show Mn2O3 microspheres have well-developed porous and hollow structure, demonstrating good potential on removal of heavy metal ions. Adsorption data fit better with Freundlich isotherms than Langmuir isotherms. Kinetic studies indicate adsorption behavior is described by pseudo-second-order kinetic model, and intraparticle diffusion plays a significant role.

        Liposome Formulation of Paclitaxel with Enhanced Solubility and Stability

        <P> Despite its strong antitumor activity, paclitaxel (Taxol®) has limited clinical applications due to its low aqueous solubility and hypersensitivity caused by Cremophor® EL and ethanol which is the vehicle used in the current commercial product. In an attempt to develop a pharmaceutically acceptable formulation that could replace Taxol®, a paclitaxel incorporated liposome has been constructed to improve solubility and physicochemical stability. The effect of various components of the liposome, including cholesterol and lipid, on the solubility and entrapment efficiency (EE) of paclitaxel was systematically investigated. The results showed that 5% (v/v) of polyethylene glycol 400 in the hydration medium of liposome significantly increased the solubility (up to 3.39 mg/mL) as well as the EE and the paclitaxel content in the liposome formulation composed of 10% (w/v) of S100PC with cholesterol (cholesterol-to-lipid molar ratio = 10:90). When sucrose (sugar-to-lipid molar ratio = 2.3) was added as a lyoprotectant during the freeze-drying of the liposome, physicochemical stability of liposome was significantly improved. Moreover, the cytotoxicity of the final liposome formulation against MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cell line was not significantly different from that of Taxol®. The enhanced aqueous solubility as well as the physicochemical stability of paclitaxel in the liposome formulation developed in this study could be a safer and effective alternative to the Cremophor® EL and ethanol formulation.</P>
