      • Interleukin-2와 결핵균 30 kDa 항원이 구개편도 및 말초혈액 T 세포 증식에 미치는 상승효과

        Widespread use of BCG has not controlled tuberculosis, and more effective vaccines are clearly needed. Although chemotherapy will remain the mainstay of antituberculosis treatment, the use of adjunctive immunotherapeutic modalitites is attractive, particularly in persons with drug-resistant tuberculosis. Administration of IL-2 or IFN-γto tuberculosis patients enhance bacillary elimination. Cell-mediated immunity is the critical protective immune response in tuberculosis. Mycobacterial antigens are recognized by T cells and that elicit production of protective cytokines are potentially important vaccine antigens. The 30 kDa antigen is secreted in large quantities by growing mycobacteria. That antigen elicits greater proliferation in lymphocytes from healthy tuberculin reactors than healthy tuberculin nonreactors. In this study, the T lymphocyte proliferative responses to 30 kDa antigen from Mycobactrium tuberculosis H37Rv were examined by using tonsilar and peripheral blood lymphocytes from PPD(+) and PPD(-) tonsilectomized persons. When cultured with 30 kD antigen, tonsilar mononuclear leukocytes and T cells of PPD(+) demonstrated more ^3H-thymidine incorporation than PPD(-) persons (stimulation index was 2.5 and 1.9, 0.8 and 1.0, repectively). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and peripheral blood T lymphocytes were shown the similar responses to this antigen. The combination of IL-2 and 30 kDa antigen elicited a significant proliferative responsiveness in tonsilar mononuclear leukocytes and T cells of PPD(+) persons (SI was 20 and 14.1). PBMC and peripheral blood T cells of PPD(+) persons were also shown a significant responsiveness, but PPD(-) persons did not show. These results demonstrate that the 30 kDa antigen and IL-2 have a synergistic stimulatory property in mycobacteria sensitizing lymphocytes.

        Tennessee Williams 후기극 속의 구원의 여성상

        In the case of Tennessee williams, almost all of his works are shaped by reflections on his life and experience. Accordingly, the characters that appear in his works can be said to be shaped by his own character or other characters around him in real life. Especially, and analysis of his feminine characters provides a very suitable access to a study of Williams' works. This study lays aims to suggest the Feminine Type as the self-sacrificer through the characterization of feminine characters, using Lajors Egri's method. The type of character is presented in Williams' later plays. She appears in women like Hannah in the Night of the Iguana and Leona of Small Craft Warnings. In Hannah and Leona, this type puts on the face of a woman who, psychologically, has a transcendental, yet practical will. She maintains a sound physical condition, and in the degree of bestowing her favor upon other characters in her situation, shows a surplus in giving. In contrast to Williams' earlier characters, her relationship of bestowing favor on other characters forms the basis for giving the impression of living a comparatively balanced life economically, physically and psychologically. This analysis of this feminine type that Tennessee Williams created reveals a notable change in the world view that is presented through his early and middle plays. Close analysis of Williams' feminine characters shows clearly a chronological progression from negation to affirmation of life in his works. There is a clear development from the negative femine characters in his early plays to the later life-affirming women who people the stage of his later plays. Study of this progressive change in the world view presented in Williams plays can be most clearly documented through the change in the feminine types presented in his plays.

        외상성 고관절 탈구의 예후에 영향을 주는 요인

        Background : Incidence of traumatic hip dislocation have been increased with development of transportation. Traumatic hip dislocation demands early recognition as an emergency and prompt reduction. So we designed this study to determine what kinds of factors affect the prognosis of the patient. Methods ; Eighty five patients who admitted emergency department of our hospital with the traumatic hip dislocation were enrolled in this study. Cause of injury, type of dislocation, method of reduction, the time from dislocation to reduction, age, gender and associated patellar injury were evaluated by retrospective chart reviews. Results : Average age of excellent good group(E&G) is 28±17.8 and fair and poor group(F&P) is 39±18.6, so the older the age the more poor prognosis.(P<0.05). The time to take reduction of E&G group is 18±8.2 hours and F&P group is 25±12.6 hours, so the faster the better prognosis.(P<0.05) We classify the type of hip dislocation by Thompson and Epstein method, type Ⅰ to type Ⅴ. The prognosis of type Ⅰ is better than type Ⅴ(P<0.05). Fifty five case were associated with patellar injury and they had poor prognosis than the other cases that were not associated with knee joint injury. Conclusion : In traumatic dislocated hip patients, the prognosis was poor in old age, delay in reduction, higher type of dislocation and associated with knee joint injury.

      • 우수 사과酒酵母의 分離와 利用에 關한 硏究

        Extensive selection works on wild yeasts of fruits were carried cut to obtain strains which are applicable to apple wine making. Among the total number of 1,358 yeast strains which were isolated from various fruit samples collected from the vicinity of Daejeon and other regions of Korea, the strains SH-49, SH-129 and SH-338 were found to be useful. Then experiments on their morphological and physiological characteristics, and on the aspects of practical use in apple wine making were proceeded. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The strains SH-49 and SH-129, particularly SH-49, were appeared to have good fermentation ability, tolerance to sulfur dioxide and to produce fine quality of apple wine. 2. Apple wines made by using the strain, SH-49 and SH-129 contained less amount of total acids than those by other strains. 3. Apple wines of SH-49 and SH-129 were clarified rapidly during the primary fermentation period, and their absorbancy at 430 nm after 45 days of storage were approximately half of others. 4. Apple wine of SH-338 contained higher amount of residual sugar and its quality was superior to others. It is considered that this strain could be used in the production of apple wine of a characteristic quality. 5. The strains SH-49 and SH-338 were identified as a Saccharomyces cerevisiae according to Taxanomic Study of Yeasts by Lodder, however, classification of SH-129 was suspended for further study.

        In this paper, we evaluated two main QoS supporting routing protocol on wireless ad hoc network. At presence, wireless mobile communication focuses on how to efficiently support mobility of users more than QoS guarantee. However, in order to satisfy requirement of various applications which have been or will be served, QoS support service between source and destination becoming a very important issue. Of all routing protocols, DSR and AODV are very important routing protocol in MANET. So we simulated DSR and AODV QoS Routing Protocol Through simulation evaluation tool NS(Network Simulation) based on various environments.

        TDI계 수분산성 폴리우레탄 접착제의 특성에 Diisocyanate의 구조가 미치는 영향

        수년 전부터 많은 연구자들에 의해 폴리우레탄의 수용화, 수분산화의 연구가 수행되어 왔다. 그럼에도 불구하고 폴리우레탄의 특성에 디이소시아네이트가 구조에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구는 많이 진행되지 않았고 또한 미흡한 상태이다. 따라서 번 연구에서는 디이소시아네이트의 형태와 함량 변화에 따른 폴리우레탄의 특성을 연구하였다. 폴리우레1탄 수분산체(PUD)는 poly(tetramethylent ether) glycol (PTMG), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), toluene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI), dimethylol propionic acid (DMPA), trethylamine (TEA) 등을 사용하여 제조하였다. 제조한 폴리우레탄 수분산체(PUD)의 구조를 FT-IR을 이용하여 확인하였다. 폴리우레탄 수분산체의 특성은 DSC, gel permeation chromatography (GPC), particle analyzer, universal testing machine (UTM) 등을 사용하여 측정하였다. 폴리우레탄 수분산체(PHD)에서 입자크기는 IPDI 함량이 증가할수록 작아지는 경향을 나타내었으며, 유리전이온도(Tg)는 IPDI 함량이 증가할수록 조금씩 낮아지는 경향을 나타내었다. 또한, 폴리우레탄 수분산체(PUD)의 접착세기 변화에서는 [NCO]/[OH] 몰비를 1.2로 유지되도록 하면서 합성에 관여하는 [NCO] 양에 해당하는 [TDI]/[IPDI] 몰비를 변화시켜 얻은 폴리우레탄 수분산체의 접착세기는 [TDI][IPDI] 몰비가 50/50일때 좋은 집착세기를 나타내었다. 또한 [NCO]/[OH] 몰비를 1.6으로 일정하게 유지되도록 하고 [TDI]/[IPDI] 몰비를 변화시켜 얻은 폴리우레탄 수분산체의 접착세기는 [TDI]/[IPDI] 몰비가 75/25일 때 좋은 접착세기를 나타내었다. Aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUD) has been investigated by many researchers for a long time. However, relatively little systematic work has been reported, in detail, on the effect of structure of the diisocyanate on the properties of polyurethane. This work describes the properties of polyurethane in relation to the variation of diisocyanate type and contents. Aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUD) were prepared from the poly(tetramethylene ether) glycol (PTMG), toluene 2,4-diisocyanate (TDI), isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI), dimethyol propionic acid (DMPA), and triethylamine (TEA). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), FT-IR, GPC, universal testing machine (UTM), and particle analyzer were utilized to characterize the physical and mechanical properties of PUD according to diisocyanate type and contents. As the content of IPDI in PUD increased, the particle size decreased. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of PUT were shifted to a lower temperature as IPDI conent increased. When [NCO]/[OH] mole ratio was 1.2, the adhesion force of PUD shown the best result at [TDI]/[IPDI] mole ratio of 50/50. And, at [NCO]/[OH] mole ratio of 1.2, the adhesion force of PUD was the best when [TDIl/[IPDI] mole ratio was 75/25.

        Siriraj Stroke Score 따른 뇌졸중 환자 감별의 적합성

        Background: The differentiation between hemorrhagic(HS) and norhemorrhagic(NHS) stroke is the most important first step in the management of acute stroke because clinical management of the two disorders differs substantially. Neuroimaging studies are useful in diagnosing and distinctioning between HS and NHS. The use of clinical variables, such as Siriraj stroke scores(SSS), has led to good sensitivity, specificity and predictive values. The aim of our study was to evaluate the use of the SSS in the Korean population and assess whether it could aid to expedite treatment decisions. Methods: We reviewed 111 cases of stroke patients admitted to our hospital via the emergency department over a 6 months period from July to December 1998. Levels of consciousness, vomiting, headache, and atheroma markers used in the SSS were applied to these patients who met the criteria for a stroke. Results: Of the 111 patients, the SSS classified 83 with sensitivities of 81.1%(NHS) and 73.3%(HS) and positive predictive values of 84.3% and 68.8%, respectively. The overall accuracy rate was 78.3%. Conclusion: Our results suggest that the SSS is not reliable in distinguishing stroke types in the Korean population. Definite neuroimaging studies are needed prior to thrombolytic therapy.

        Improved pre‐osteoblast response and mechanical compatibility of ultrafine‐grained Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Objective: </B> Metallic implantation materials having high yield strength, low elastic modulus, and non‐cytotoxic alloying elements would be advantageous for the long‐term stability of implants. This study assessed the surface and mechanical properties, and also <I>in vitro</I> osteoconductivity of ultrafine‐grained (UFG) Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy produced by dynamic globularization without any severe deformation for future biomedical applications as an endosseous implant material.</P><P><B>Material and methods: </B> The surface characteristics and mechanical properties were investigated by orientation image microscopy, contact angle measurements, optical profilometry, and uniaxial tension tests. Mouse calvaria‐derived pre‐osteoblastic cell (MC3T3‐E1) attachment, spreading, viability, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, and quantitative analysis of osteoblastic gene expression on UFG Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy were compared with coarse‐grained (CG) Ti–13Nb–13Zr and CG Ti–6Al–4V alloys.</P><P><B>Results: </B> Dynamic globularized Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy has an ultrafine grain size (0.3 μm) and an excellent combination of yield strength and elastic modulus compared with CG alloys, which displayed significantly lower water contact angles compared with CG alloys (<I>P</I><0.05). The UFG and CG Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloys displayed significantly increased cellular attachment compared with CG Ti–6Al–4V alloy (<I>P</I><0.05). The UFG Ti–13Nb–13Zr supported better cell spreading and more numerous focal adhesions. ALP activity (<I>P</I><0.05) and mRNA expressions of the osteoblast transcription factor genes (osterix, Runx2) and marker gene for osteoblast differentiation (osteocalcin) were markedly increased in cells grown on the UFG substrate compared with CG substrates at early incubation timepoints.</P><P><B>Conclusion: </B> Enhanced pre‐osteoblast response to UFG Ti–13Nb–13Zr substrate is attributable to the non‐cytotoxic alloying elements and the submicron scale grain size contributes to the superior surface hydrophilicity and abundant grain boundaries favorable for cell behavior. These findings indicate that dynamic globularized UFG Ti–13Nb–13Zr alloy is promising for load‐bearing endosseous implant material because of excellent mechanical and biological compatibilites.</P><P> <B>To cite this article:</B>

      • Contrast Volume/Raw eGFR Ratio for Predicting Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for Myocardial Infarction

        <P>Abstract</P><P><B><I>Background:</I></B> Considering that contrast medium is excreted through the whole kidney in a similar manner to drug excretion, the use of raw estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) rather than body surface area (BSA)-normalized eGFR is thought to be more appropriate for evaluating the risk of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). <B><I>Methods:</I></B> This study included 2,189 myocardial infarction patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention. Logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the independent risk factors. We used receiver-operating characteristic (ROC) curves to compare the ratios of contrast volume (CV) to eGFR with and without BSA normalization in predicting CI-AKI. <B><I>Results:</I></B> The area under the curve (AUC) of the ROC curve for the model including all the significant variables such as diabetes mellitus, left ventricular ejection fraction, preprocedural glucose, and the CV/raw modification of diet in renal disease (MDRD) eGFR ratio was 0.768 [95% confidence interval (CI), 0.720-0.816; p < 0.001]. When the CV/raw MDRD eGFR ratio was used as a single risk value, the AUC of the ROC curve was 0.650 (95% CI, 0.590-0.711; p < 0.001). When the CV/MDRD eGFR ratio with BSA normalization ratio was used, the AUC of the ROC curve further decreased to 0.635 (95% CI, 0.574-0.696; p < 0.001). The difference between the two AUCs was significant (p = 0.002). <B><I>Conclusions:</I></B> Raw eGFR is a better predictor for CI-AKI than BSA-normalized eGFR.</P><P>© 2015 S. Karger AG, Basel</P>

        Regulation of Intracellular Calcium by Endoplasmic Reticulum Proteins in Small Intestinal Interstitial Cells of Cajal

        Background/Aims We investigated the role of representative endoplasmic reticulum proteins, stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), and store-operated calcium entry-associated regulatory factor (SARAF) in pacemaker activity in cultured interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs) isolated from mouse small intestine. Methods The whole-cell patch clamp technique applied for intracellular calcium ions ([Ca<sup>2+</sup>]i) analysis with STIM1 or SARAF overexpressed cultured ICCs from mouse small intestine. Results In the current-clamping mode, cultured ICCs displayed spontaneous pacemaker potentials. External carbachol exposure produced tonic membrane depolarization in the current-clamp mode, which recovered within a few seconds into normal pacemaker potentials. In STIM1-overexpressing cultured ICCs pacemaker potential frequency was increased, and in SARAF-overexpressing ICCs pacemaker potential frequency was strongly inhibited. The application of gadolinium (a non-selective cation channel inhibitor) or a Ca<sup>2+</sup>-free solution to understand Orai channel involvement abolished the generation of pacemaker potentials. When recording intracellular Ca<sup>2+</sup> concentration with Fluo 3-AM, STIM1-overexpressing ICCs showed an increased number of spontaneous intracellular Ca<sup>2+</sup> oscillations. However, SARAF-overexpressing ICCs showed fewer spontaneous intracellular Ca<sup>2+</sup> oscillations. Conclusion Endoplasmic reticulum proteins modulated the frequency of pacemaker activity in ICCs, and levels of STIM1 and SARAF may determine slow wave patterns in the gastrointestinal tract.
