영어교사 교육의 발전적 대안 모색 A Perspective for Developing Dynamic English Teacher Education

The purpose of this study is to specify the topics of the 2014 CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) categorization framework designed for distinguishing the domains of practical English (PE) and basic academic English (BAE) which are key concepts for the both the A and B-type differential English tests in Korea. To achieve this purpose, this study analyzes 2009 revised national English curriculum, eight different second foreign language subjects, the Dewey Decimal Classifications, and other literature focused on topics. The results indicate that the practical English domain includes 6 classes with subclass-oriented topic elements. The academic English domain includes 6 classes with 7-8 subclasses each followed by topic elements. The significance of this study is to contribute to the item makers, high school English teachers, and textbook makers relevant to CSAT; there should be many examples of topics as possible in order to distinguish and create a balanced distribution of topics associated with Academic and Practical English. Based on the results of this study, further studies are suggested, including textbook analysis and Delphi research methodology for eliciting educational and social consensus on definitions for PE and BAE, as well as the framework.
영어교과 교육과정평가에 대한 중등학교 영어교사들의 인식

School-based curriculum evaluation has been one of the core issues in curriculum planning, implementation, outcome, and feedback of the holistic curriculum process to next curriculum planning stage. In line with the significance of the curriculum evaluation, the research in the field of subject specific curriculum evaluation should be conducted for English teachers to customize their unique curriculum evaluation. Under this situation, this study has attempted to explore the secondary school English teachers’ perceptions on the significance degree of curriculum evaluation criteria, drawing implications for setting curriculum evaluation criteria. To achieve this purpose, the order of the criteria was analyzed by using Likert scale, and analysis of variance, and Scheffė post-hoc test were employed. The analysis revealed that, first, the curriculum evaluation criteria and components should be selected by reflecting subject teachers’ perceptions when applying it into school-level curriculum evaluation. Second, certain evaluation criteria was perceived more significant in a specific school level or school scale, suggesting that the curriculum evaluation criteria needs to be differentiated by each variable such as school-level or school-scale. A couple of suggestions were made for further research in this area such as an introduction of various research methodologies, and ways of developing and strengthening curriculum evaluation autonomy.
영어교육 관련 사회적 인식 변화에 대한 빅데이터 분석과 테크놀로지 활용 영어교육에 대한 인식 제고 방안

The purpose of this study is to find out the society's perception of English education through the analysis of keywords that appear frequently with English education and to suggest ways to raise awareness about English education using technology based on the results. For this purpose, word frequency, TF-IDF, N-gram, and connection centrality analysis were conducted for texts related to 'English education' that appeared in portals in 2011 and 2021. The main results of this study are as follows. Among the words related to 'English education' in big data in 2011 and 2021, 'English' and 'education', 'mom', 'Jeju' and 'academy' were mentioned a lot. Meanwhile, in 2011, words such as 'EXPO', 'experience', and 'phone' were ranked at the top, whereas in 2021, words such as 'content', 'online', and 'YouTube' were included in the top rank. In terms of the N-gram analysis, ‘future education’ and ‘industry sector’ were included in the top rankings in 2021. Nevertheless, keywords related to various technologies such as artificial intelligence, chatbot, virtual reality, and augmented reality related to the 4th industrial revolution were not frequently mentioned even in 2021. Based on these results, this study proposes a method to raise awareness about technology-based English education.

Despite increasing interest in English programs, few studies have emphasized the development of English program articulation between high school and college. The current study, therefore, explores the importance of such articulated English programs for Korean college English education, by conducting a systematic literature review of the findings of 67 relevant studies. Furthermore, this study analyzes and compares the findings by using an internet-based text-mining program in terms of frequent expressions in the abstracts collected. Based on the results, the study suggests some implications for practice. First, English program articulation between high schools and colleges is critical. Second, it is important to take an integrated approach to the development of articulated high school and college programs
